Sausage, egg, and cheese tacos
Maury M.

When we're craving some legit, "mom and pop," authentic Mexican food, we think of one place: Juanita's. Hands-down. Every time. It's a 40 minute drive for us, but always well worth it. For starters, the folks here are amazing. We've been blessed to become friends with them over the years, and they're all just great folks -- and it shows in how they conduct business AND in the delicious food they serve. From the owner to the bussers to all the wait staff -- STELLAR. The food? Sweet mama. The food. You get some of the best salsa and chips you will ever eat here. Endless. Bottomless. Delicious. The green sauce has some legit kick, and the red sauce is good enough to drink with a straw. For mains, I have become a creature of habit here: two sausage, egg, and cheese tacos and one birria taco. End of game. But, over the years, we have thoroughly enjoyed their carne guisada, fajitas, their mixed plates, hard and soft tacos, enchiladas, soups, etc. The menu is large and they'll accommodate pretty much anything you ask for -- and all straight authentic and straight legit. They also have a great selection of fresh juices, like mango, hibiscus, lemonade, melon, and more. I really feel like I could go on and on -- but just do yourself the solid and go. They're open from 6am to 3pm every day, and you will NOT be disappointed. Tell them Mr. Maury and Mrs. Erika sent you.

Egg inflation.

The food is ok, but don't be surprised when the bill is higher than you expected. I was there this morning and was charged for chips! It's hilarious, they bring you two types of salsa with no chips, i thought they forgot since others around me had chips with their salsa, i guess they expect folks to dip their fingers. Much to my chagrin there was a $2 charge for chips-who does that?? It was at this time a waitress informed me of the sign by the register displaying the charge, sadly it was approximately 15 ft away from where i was seated! Oh yea, they charge $2.50 for a single egg. Due to this nonsense i will choose to dine elsewhere, the food simply isn't worth it.

Had a lil dinner hangout with some friends from my edc group at mi luna in Houston. It's located in…read morea really nice area in the Montrose collective. Parking is pretty easy, there's a big garage that is pretty cheap, or you can park for free in the neighborhood. They have patio seating available if you wish to sit outdoors. This is a Spanish tapas restaurant, and their menu is very big it was pretty overwhelming to look at. Luckily for us, Richard locked in and ordered everything for us. If we were able to come a bit earlier we could've ordered during happy hour which has a lot of good discounts on their tapas What we ordered: - patatas bravas with chorizo - by far our fav dish of the night. The sauce is so so good. It's a must get, but I would pass on the chorizo next time - albondigas morunas - I enjoyed the lamb meatballs with cinnamon onions, couscous was good too - Plato de jamon Serrano - good app, love how you can customize it any way with the cheese, fruits, and olives - gambas al ajillo - shrimp in lemon garlic olive oil and red chili peppers, solid but not anything life changing or a must order - calamares a la plancha - grilled squid with roasted garlic and olive oil, very citrusy and unique - pemientos de padron - tasted just like air, really is just a Carrie for the lemon aioli which was really good - pescaditos Fritos - same as the pimento peppers. Came with harissa aioli and spicy tomato - sangria - we got some kind of jumbo size for a good deal. Good for sharing

We ordered a variety of dishes, but the absolute standout was the Rabo de Toro a la Sevillana (braised oxtail with chickpeas). It was incredibly flavorful, fall apart tender, and easily the best dish. I'd come back just for that. I really wanted to love the paella since it was the main reason we visited, but unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. The rice was overcooked, and while it may have been because the restaurant was very busy, it's such a signature dish that I was hoping for more. I mentioned it to our server, who was gracious, appreciated the feedback, and surprised us with a complimentary flourless chocolate cake. Normally I wouldn't order a flourless chocolate cake, but wow it was absolutely delicious. It was rich yet delicate, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet or heavy. Overall, we had a wonderful date night and would definitely return. One recommendation: make a reservation and request indoor seating if possible. We sat outside and spent much of the evening shooing away mosquitoes and flies. Dining indoors would definitely make the experience even more enjoyable.

Paired with a nice red wine from South Africa. The boards were good but favored the bold flavors of the Manhattan more. Wine was great and at $33 for a bottle a decent price. I was immediately intrigued, especially since they're located in Pearland. It took a few months after HRW before I was finally able to try them out. Take Out: I've done take out a few times. The first time, I ordered at the restaurant. It took about 20-30 minutes for the food to be prepared. Miranda was so nice and offered me water while I waited. She was very friendly and personable. The next two times, I ordered online. My order was ready when I arrived both times, however the second time I arrived, service was extremely slow. I was in a hurry and didn't feel well so I left a little annoyed. Food: Cucumber Shooters - Really tasty! I enjoyed the walnuts and cream cheese. Deviled Eggs - The flavor changes monthly. The first time I had it, the flavor was olive and I didn't care for it. Nutella Board - I ordered a catering size for a party and it was a hit with the party goers. Smoked Salmon - I loved it! It came with an everything bagel, cream cheese, and an assortment of veggies. I had enough food for three days. Dine In: We were the only patrons in the restaurant. It's not a large place, but it was a little awkward because our server could hear our entire conversation. There was a music playlist going, but the volume was low. Our server Cassundra was very nice. She made great suggestions on food and wine and assured us that the amount of food we ordered would be plenty. Wine: We ordered a bottle of Pratello Catulliano. This was our first time trying Lugana wine. You could taste the lime and apple, and it was on the drier side. Cassundra told us that they did a wine and Girl Scout cookie pairing and the Pratello Catulliano paired nicely with the Shortbread cookie. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up buying a bottle to go. We also had a glass of the house white wine which we enjoyed. Food: Butter Board - This was extremely tasty! It's whipped butter with hot honey, garlic cloves, rosemary, and sea salt. The contrast of sweet, salty, and savory was excellent and I loved the flavor of the rosemary! It came with focaccia bread. Deviled Eggs - The flavor this month is dill pickle. They were much better than the olive ones I had a few months prior and I would definitely order this flavor again! The Pearland - This charcuterie board is one of their most popular. There was a nice assortment of meat, cheese, crackers, and fruit. I actually liked the beet crackers with the salami and sharp cheddar. TBTBTCBM never seems to be busy when I visit. It is hidden in the same shopping strip as the discount movie theater. Part of me likes that it's sort of a secret, but I want this business to do well. It's nice to have a wine bar in town and not have to drive to Friendswood, Houston, or Missouri City.
