This was a great find!! I ordered Fajita A La Mexicana with double beans, refried and charro. This is one of my favorite dishes, and not many restaurants meet the mark. This one definitely did. Love coming here because we know we will never be disappointed. We normally have a good experience with service, you will constantly see waiters helping each other out. The chips and salsa they give you are good, the chips aren't salty which we really appreciate! I really like the green salsa but it can be a bit spicy. We got the mini tacos and a torta, which were delicious. The charros beans were delicious as well! Our favorite meat was the fajita. Kitchen does not seem to understand how to read a ticket I give these people chance after chance and they continue to screw up. Every once in a while they may get the order correct I also don't understand why they offer a "homemade" tortilla and have an up charge for that. Just serve one kind and adjust your cost accordingly. Menu is pretty wide ranging with all the favorites. We asked what was popular. Not a log of vegetarian options. A lot cheaper than San Francisco. Only bottled water. The food was better than expected. Portion size was also on the large side. Service was fine, nothing exceptional but adequate. Food Review: Guacamole ($6.99 small) was done well. Good quantity and nice mixture of ingredients. Their chips are very good. 8.5/10 Horchata ($4.49 32oz) hit the spot. It was my last night in Texas and we wanted Mexican food. I lowkey wanted to try Tex-Mex to see how bad it was but decided to go with this place instead. The great reviews and delicious looking photos led us to this spot. Upon entering during dinner time on a weekday night, we were greeted and seated right away. Place seemed really deserted but had plenty of seating inside. There was a funky smell inside but oh well, we were hungry and not in the mood to go to any other subpar Tex-Mex spot in the immediate area. We were informed that they don't have waters on tap and only Ozarka bottled waters for guests. It tasted sort of like Arrowhead but a little better. I wouldn't trust tap water at this establishment anyways so maybe that's better for us. We were served chips with a side of two salsas. The chips were really stale and salty. The spicier green salsa seemed fresh but the pico de gallo seemed a bit old. Had the Enchiladas Verdes for myself that came with a side salad, Mexican rice, and beans. Opted to get pollo with my enchiladas and that was very dry. The verde salsa was honestly not bad but there was so little on one end of the enchilada. The rice was hard. The beans were extremely bland. The side salad which consisted of shredded lettuce and tomato was bland. Our server was on the passive-aggressive side. She seemed really pissed off and gave us an attitude while serving us. Being the only non-Mexican in the restaurant could've been the issue but let's not think that way. Sure, living in Southern California, there are so many great Mexican establishments, even the more Tex-Mex type of restaurants, but this place was a total shame. We tried Taqueria Chalupas for the first time this past May when headed back home from Galveston. Last Saturday we couldn't pass up the chance to stop again when headed home from our cruise and this time brought the family. I always hate telling our kids how good someplace is and overselling/overhyping it but as suspected Tony and his team at Taqueria Chalupas did not disappoint. We were greeted at the door and sat immediately. Their red, fresh marinated salsa along with a nice spicy green salsa made with fresh fried (blistered) roasted jalapeños salsa, which is my all time favorite. Five of us ordered the fajitas street tacos with onions and cilantro which came with frijoles a la charra. Best beans we've ever had! Not mushy and the bacon and chorizo flavor gave it a nice flavor. First time here for breakfast. Wow! You can still get a hearty, fresh, hot breakfast for $5.99. We didn't have much time to spend so we appreciated the fast service. There are no frills about this spot; just a hole in the wall that serves excellent food & provides decent service. Whoever is cooking in the back cooks with love & actually seasoned their food. That person needs to be there forever. We started off with their chips & salsa. It came out hot and fresh. The red salsa was okay but their spicy green sauce was delicious. It packed a good amount of heat & it was seasoned very nicely. I also ordered the horchata as my drink & I thought it was quite refreshing. A bit on the sweeter side but it had good cinnamon flavor. My BF & I decided to order the Combo fajitas for two & I added shrimp as well. The chicken, beef & shrimp was seasoned to perfection & also cooked nicely as well. Both the chicken and beef were tendered and not dry. It also came with rice, guacamole & frijoles charros. The rice was okay, the guacamole was good but my favorite was the frijoles charros. It had a soup like consistency & it was just very comforting to eat. Definitely good for a hangover or if you're not feeling well. Overall, it was a very good experience. This is probably one of the better hole in the wall Mexican spots. I recommend everyone to give it a try if you're around the Webster area. I definitely can't wait to come back. read more

In the first picture, it is my dad. He is the most pickiest person when it comes to food. He has very specific criteria for him to say "Mmm! That's good!". He had that reaction to the beans. Those beans are the star of the show. They were delicious. The service was great and quick. The green salsa was very spicy! The only complaint from my dad is that the mole was not "mole". My mom loved the camarones a la plancha. The burrito was so delicious and jam packed of flavor. I also loved the ambience of this place. It's laid back and relaxing. Chalupas allowed us to use their adjacent "party room" for a family gathering after Christmas. We were able to decorate and arrange seating and tables to our liking, order food and drinks off the menu and provide our own music. Food was great, as usual, and staff was very accommodating. There is a separate restroom, small stage, and bar available, as well as an adjacent patio. Perfect for small to medium gatherings. This was our first visit to this restaurant. Everyone has a story but in our case, we were just taking a break from visiting my dad at Houston Methodist. My parents been married 58 years and both wanted him to be discharged to home but for his safety, he has to go to the rehab facility. So my mom has had a rough day. What really stood out to me was how caring our server was. My 84 yo mom doesn't go out to eat much anymore and she just forgot to tell our waitress that she's allergic to dairy so needed her taco salad without the sour cream and cheese. I saw our waitress catch it as someone came out of the kitchen to deliver it to our table. She had the kitchen make a whole new one for my mom. I've got myself tearing up telling this story but it is just a pure kind person who makes these quick decisions and I'm very grateful for Catarina today. The service: Don't be fooled by the outdoor appearance or the location, this place is an absolute gem. The service was impeccable and quick. The server was very nice and helped my pack everything to go, those delicious chips and the beans I was not able to finish. She used the card less payment at the table which was nice because my card did not leave my sight for payment. Just a warning, if you order water it comes in a bottle at 0.99. I was expecting tap water, however I'm guessing they don't use it. The food: The chips that came with the table did not taste homemade but had a good crunch to them. I would compare them to Tostitos. The salsa had a bit of kick to it, if you like a spicy salsa you will enjoy this experience. You can taste the cilantro in every bite! The jalapeño green salsa was phenemonal. It was a new dish for me and it was quite creamy with a spicy finish. Don't let the size of the tacos fool you. The chicken breast tacos were juicy and flavorful with a nice grilled finish. Just the right amount of onion and cilantro for each bite. The shredded chicken had a completely different taste. It had a marinated tomato taste with something similar to chili power. The marinated pork was my least favorite, normally it's my go to at places however this one tasted a bit over seasoned. I wish I could taste the pork a little more. It had a stew pork taste, stew as in a sugar ketchup mixture into a froth then cooking the meat in it. Value: I left the restaurant with leftovers for 12.47 before a tip! For the value, taste and leftovers I'm sure I will be back in the future! I took off one star because of the water bottle and being charged without telling me and the pork over seasoned. read more
