Velvet Taco is a fast-casual spot with fresh, flavorful tacos and bowls. The vibe is quirky and fun. We stopped in for a late lunch after shopping nearby. We checked the menu on the wall, placed our order with a friendly staff member, and found a table. Our name was called about five minutes later. My partner ordered a pork taco and a shrimp taco and really enjoyed them. He especially liked the shrimp, which had a little heat. I ordered the seasonal vegetable bowl (gluten-free). It was a generous portion with corn, sweet potato, pickled onion, cauliflower, poblano, guac, cilantro, slaw, and rice. Many times I end up sitting somewhere in DFW waiting for parts for work. Spent way too much on Door Dash just sitting there. Think $22 worth of Taco Casa. And yes, it was good but the extras for delivery will put you in the poor house. I recently arrived for a pick up at one of our distributors. They at least were honest that they needed about two hours to prepare the order. Well, instead of just sitting there I ventured over to Velvet Taco a mile or so away. In Austin if you're a corporate taco person there's Torchy's. Not too many VT locations versus the local start up. Flavors sounded interesting; prices seemed right with a deal posted on the wall. Quick order and I'm walking out the door. Both tacos were great. The Gyro had an authentic crossover flavor; same for the flair of the Korean Fried Rice. Drink could have been bigger. Only complaint I could offer was there were hot sauces at the register with containers to make them togo. read more

Came from out of town and needed a fast, healthier, meatless option for our family and came across Velvet Taco! They have a lot of meatless options (and meat options as well)! I went with the shrimp bowl and was pleasantly surprised! It had great flavor! There was both indoor and outdoor seating. And high chairs for kids. Loved all the vibrant colors! Our food also came out pretty fast as well! Side note for those who have the soap cilantro gene (my husband), they were able to hold off on cilantro toppings, but weren't able to take it out of everything, but he said that he barely taste it! We made a quick stop here on our way home, which turned into a longer visit than planned. We ordered the Beer Battered Cauliflower, Nashville Hot Tofu, WTF - Butter Chicken, Corn & Chips, and the Kids' Tater Tots. My SO really enjoyed the Cauliflower Taco but wasn't a fan of the Hot Tofu. Love the crazy variety of tacos. It's great when everybody seems to be in the mood for something different because the variety is pretty drastic... hello, Chicken tender and tater tot taco. The outdoor seating is the way to go in my opinion. It's a little bit loud and cafeteria feeling inside. But the outside is great. Of course, if there's bad weather, you do have the inside option. they're pretty busy pretty much anytime I've gone so you can expect a small wait for counter service, but it's not bad. They have some of the most tasty fast food Mexican inspired taco in the area. You can walk in and order from the counter or you can download their app and order from the comfort of your table. The favorite starter for us is the Elites and Chip and can almost be an entree. It comes how hot and creamy and perfect to dip in your chips. All of the tacos so far have been fantastic. My favorites are the Cuban Pig and the Grilled Salmon. I have tried the Spicy Tikka Chicken and the Korean Fried Rice and good but not my all time favorite for taste with the fantastic sauces and dripping taco juices especially on the Cuban Pig. I have tried the Red Velvet Cake and it was ok. If you love red velvet cake you will probably love it way more than i did but it was not bad. I'd had Velvet Taco once before and really enjoyed the taco, but due to proximity I kinda forgot about the place, including this location. I wanted a unique taco, so I ordered the birria tacos , the chicken tikka taco, an order of the queso and a slice of cake. Upon arriving my order was ready and the smells escaping the bag had me excited. I first tried the chicken tikka which was very good, the chicken still had some crunch, it was appropriately sauced and though initially apprehensive about the rice , I enjoyed it in the taco. Now, the birria was a bit of a let down. It was pretty mild in flavor and I thought the gruyere in it seemed out of place with the other flavors; the consumme was just ok in taste. I was excited to have the queso but I didn't care for the Indian spices in it and it was a little to thick for my liking. The red velvet cake was better than I expected and tasted even better the next day after I microwaved it to soften it up. I'll definitely be back to try the other taco selections. read more

Food is always fresh and delicious. They have the combo meal of two tacos, one side and drink for about $15, which is a good deal. Cashier was friendly. But when the food was ready, tacos were only put on taco holders, no tray. That made eating and cleaning up a bit messy, especially for our child. Also I was given tipping options when paying by credit card. But I walked up to order, walked back when called to bring our own food to table, and had to bring trash and containers back, just like a fast food joint. Wow! I loved all of my food from Velvet Taco. They are doing it right here when it comes to flavors and options. I think the people who put the menu together really created something special. I ordered three different tacos and a curry queso. The tacos are average sized but loaded with ingredients. I had a tiki chicken taco , the paneer taco, and the cauliflower one. Each one was distinct in flavors and I enjoyed every bite! The curry queso was delicious. Honestly I was hoping for a little more spice but it still tasted good. Great location. Nice atmosphere, pretty small inside- The patio is nice, but maybe some more light would help- it was dark and still windy on a beautiful day. Feels too closed in- Food- I got the falafel taco- it was alright- I enjoyed the tiny falafel, but they were pretty tiny and hard to taste because they overloaded with arugula and veggies. The flank steak was flavorful with the mushrooms and onions- but there wasn't that much steak- lots of onions. A small cozy place that has excellent food that pairs well with the vibe. The service is great and food comes out quickly. The best is the Elotes. It's cheesy goodness that goes well with the nachos. The egg cooked on Crispy Tots & Egg is perfectly cooked. All the tacos were delicious. My personal favorite was the Mexi-Cali shrimp taco. The tacos are really thick and packed full of food so you can get full off of one really easily. The only downside is the Mexican cola is really not Mexican cola, so they should probably change that. read more

Awesome tacos! They were pretty random, like an Indian food style one, a Cuban, some backyard party (chicken), and another. Fun place to grab tacos and a margie. It's counter service that is pretty quick. They have a drive thru if sitting on bar height stools isn't your thing. We came for lunch and while it was pretty busy, we didn't wait long for our items. We started with the elote and chips, which I will probably order again. It's more of a dip than the usual elote in a cup. Our tacos came in a cute taco holder that I wish I had at home. We tried the Fish n Chips, Grilled Flank Steak, Picnic Chicken, Spicy Tikka Chicken and the Buffalo Chicken tacos. The clear winner here was the Buffalo Chicken tacos. The tikka wasn't spicy at first bite, it creeps up later. The flank steak wasn't as tender or flavorful as I would have liked. They average $6 a taco which is high but for the average person 2-3 tacos is more than enough. Great addition to Grandscape and I'm looking forward to future visits read more

Love this taco place! We tried this over torchys for the first time and absolutely loved it! Yes the tacos are a bit pricier however they are larger than you think. That combined with some chips and queso and you'll be full! We got the spicy chicken taco, a vegetariantaco, and the one of the breakfast tacos - brisket and cheesy potatoes that we replaced the brisket with tofu. It was really good but the taco shell was also dipped in cheese so that was a little too heavy with all the cheese on top and in the potatoes. I visited just a few days after the grand opening. I expected issues in service and quality being so new, however this place was hitting on a cylinders! Tons of staff working hard, even with long lines the food delivery was fast the quality was good! Am I going to review every Velvet Taco in DFW? No!! Just the ones I go to personally. :) Walked in to a warm welcome as I placed my order. Went for one reliably amazing Chicken Tikka Taco and one Buffalo Chicken. Both were delicious! I really feel like part of the reason the tacos here are so good is because of the care put into the actual ingredients. You can see the team hand breading the chicken in the kitchen and they commitment to quality goes a long way. DON'T EVER COMPROMISE Velvet Taco, keep up that consistency. I personally love their Weekly Taco Feature. The PBJ Burger taco was a hit and I think the Pork Belly taco should have made it to the regular menu. If you don't use the app, you should. Sit down, order what you want, and they will call your name. You can even get free tacos and sometimes Red Velvet Cake. My only beef with any Velvet Taco is the limited inside seating. In Fall or Spring, no worries I am great on the patio, but mid Summer or Winter I want that indoor comfort. Overall though these are the best eccentric tacos you could have. read more
