We went here to celebrate my mom's birthday and unfortunately left disappointed. For the most part, we enjoyed the food, but the service really ruined the evening for me. When we sat down there were only a few other tables occupied in the restaurant, so they were not at all busy, yet the waitress seemed to be in a hurry for us to order. We were given one drink menu for the four of us to look at, which was not a problem, but by the time she came to take drink orders only two of us had decided on drinks and my husband hadn't had a chance to look at the menu. This seemed to be a problem, because she announced "let's get you another menu" and then as she was grabbing the additional drink menu she angrily huffed under her breath "Jesus Christ" like it was our fault we only had one drink menu or we were holding her up. In my opinion, if we clearly aren't ready to order and she had other things to do she could have just said "I'll give you some more time to decide" and come back later. She could have just been having a bad day, but at the price point, mandatory 22% service charge, and with it being a special occasion we will not be returning. read more

We're huge fans of Vendemmia! It's such a cute neighborhood spot in Madrona! Our first visit was during happy hour for the $2 oysters from 4-5pm. My hubby and I only wanted to snack, so we had a few drinks, the oysters and shared the delicious Tonnarelli Del Mar, tomato fennel. This first visit made an impression, so we decided to visit again. On our second visit, we started with the Roasted Cabbage and shared the Tonarelli and Tagliatelle. All were great! But the absolute star was the Roasted Cabbage!!! It has anchovy, garlic and pistacchio - add a spritz of lemon to brighten up the dish and add some acidity - and it was devoured!!! The Tonarelli was made with squid ink and had clams and the Tagliatelle had braised beef. Both were delicous in their own rights, but I think we'll explore more of the Starters on our next go. The pork chop here is THE BEST I've ever had at a restaurant. The chop was tender and perfectly cooked. The chutney had deep, rich tomato and mild Indian flavors. Portion size was generous. I will day dream about this thing! The server said this takes 35 minutes to cook, and it is worth the wait! My girlfriend also loved her CRESTE DI GALLO, which the server recommended. We also took the server's recommendation for an appetizer, the Beef Tartare. It was tender and savory with the toasted bread the perfect size for delivery. For dessert, we ordered the olive oil cake. The slice of cake was HUGE and would've been enough for four people. It was topped with a reddish pink, mildly sweet frosting that I *think* was rhubarb. Not entirely sure, but delicious regardless. Drinks were also delicious, but the food was tbe real star of the show! Service was attentive and the server gave great recommendations. Overall, phenomenal! This is such a wonderful little spot for happy hour or dinner in a very warm inviting space with some very tasty food. I'm never one for absolutes, but Vendemmia has the best tasting menu in Seattle. From portion sizes to variety to to-go boxes packed in between courses; we struck a goldmine. We tried booking for Valentine's, and even a month beforehand we found ourselves stonewalled. Bookings are likely not as competitive during non- Holiday season. From protein to veggies drizzled in white chocolate to wagyu, each course beautifully complimented the other. They are portioned to perfection- we never felt too stuffed nor in need of a supplement. The last time we went to Vendemmia was probably over a year ago and had an amazing time. This time unfortunately was not as great. While our waitress was great when we had the opportunity to interact with her, she and the other servers were way too busy. They were serving and making drinks, and it seemed like they were short staffed. I felt bad for the 3 of them and wish they had just one more to make things run a little more smoothly. While we got our drinks at a reasonable time, it took us about 20 minutes to order food, for example. Food: We ordered the tagliatelle and agnolotti as mains. Some bites were great and many bites were extremely salty. Unfortunately both dishes were very inconsistent. We enjoyed our negroinis, though. Between the over salted food, understaffed service, and high price point, we won't be returning. There's an automatic tip of 22% which is frustrating when our party was just two. read more

Here is what we noticed: - Great set of cocktail options...I had the Rachel's White Negroni, which I still can't stop talking about. - The food was amazing! I started with the Snap Peas with Dungeness Crab and my wife got the Frisee & Radicchio salad...that salad was especially good. For our meals, I got the Tonnarelli and my wife got the Tagliatelle. Gaston (the name we gave the French owner) took over our table and delighted us with his hospitality and good humor...even after being tested with his views on the Macrons (French president and wife brigiiiite whom may or may not have been born with a cannoli whilst pretending to be born with a clam) he maintained a very affable disposition with just the right about of counsel, feedback and charm. Worse than ever. Do not waste your money. We went here for restaurant week. Decided to try it again as it has been awhile. The food was awful. It may have been the worst food we have received at a restaurant. My salmon was raw. Not seared, cold in the middle type raw. It was advertised as being cooked, not sushi. My husband's beef dish was stringy, watery and literally inedible. The room was loud and quite cold. And the service was poor. I almost never leave reviews unless I'm blown away or genuinely horrified-unfortunately, Vendemmia is firmly the latter. This was a Valentine's Day reservation booked over a month in advance for the Chef's Fixed Menu, with all the pricing and expectations that come with a special-occasion dinner. What we got instead was awkward, underwhelming, and wildly overpriced. Despite the main dining room being nearly empty when we arrived (and still just as empty when we left), we were seated in what felt like a converted back room--six tables crammed together, zero ambiance, and our table jutting directly into the pathway. The entire night consisted of awkward eye contact with people waiting in line for the restroom. To make it even stranger, Taylor Swift was playing in the background, which felt wildly out of place for a supposedly romantic, upscale Valentine's Day dinner. The four-course "Chef's Fixed Menu" sounds filling on paper. In reality, it was shockingly sparse. Appetizers were two bites each. The pasta course was tiny. The "mains" were almost laughable: two scallops floating in sauce, followed by the wagyu-three paper-thin slices of beef on yet another plate of sauce with a bit of cabbage. The flavor was fine, but the steak arrived lukewarm and was gone within seconds. For context, my partner is currently tracking calories for a bodybuilding show. After the first three courses, we estimated we'd consumed about 350 calories each--far less than what most people expect from a single meal, let alone multiple courses at this price point. We were so disappointed that we didn't even stay for dessert and lett hungry. For the cost, this experience was indefensible: cramped seating, no atmosphere, tiny portions, food that wasn't even hot, and a dining room inexplicably left empty while guests were shoved into a back hallway. This review is long overdue. Vendemmia is our go-to restaurant! We are always warmly welcomed by the staff. They go above and beyond to make our experience special. The waiters are very professional and always make great food and drink recommendations. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfection. It's nicely lit, the seating is comfortable, and it never gets too loud. I also love the open kitchen where you can watch the chefs create magic! The food is impeccable. Every dish I have tried here has been a hit. Everything is so beautifully presented and all of the ingredients are incredibly fresh. My favorite dish is hands-down the spaghetti. I could eat this weekly!! I'm also a huge fan of the cocktails. They are perfectly balanced. My partner is obsessed with their selection of Negronis. Delish! Avoid the tasting menu. Could not have been more disappointed in the meal, the service or the value. Rather than a curated set of items, it was just the chef's selection of four appetizers, one pasta, one protein and a dessert from the main menu. While the appetizers were good, these were full portions and far more food than two people would ever order as starters. All apps and pasta came very fast, and then we had a 30+ minute wait before a very dry pork chop was served. Pacing of the meal was poor. Service was inattentive and the value was terrible - about $50 more than just ordering the same items directly from the menu. I almost feel like what they served was some kind of mistake based on the other very positive reviews. Some of the dishes were very good and they were kind enough to comp one of our wine pairings due to the extended wait between courses, but all in all, an incredibly disappointing dining experience. My suggestion would be to create an actual tasting menu or just remove that option to avoid letting customers down. read more

The food is still great. It was Seattle Restaurant Week. They served three appetizers for the table. That included gem lettuce with a simple delicious dressing, a generous portion of steak tartare, and mussels with a broth you need to order extra bread for to sop up every drop. The focaccia was really light but so buttery. We got agnolotti--a stuffed pasta. Like pillows of squash! So good. NY strip was 8 oz per the wait staff and cooked medium rare. The sorbet was so rich in a good way. The pumpkin pavlova should be avoided. The curd tastes good but the nougat or whatever it is on is so tough you can't cut it and it sticks to your teeth. Great value for all the food you get on the chef's tasting menu. The food was well done, there was a great variety and a lot of it so we had to take home left overs. It's quaint inside too. Course 1: cod and baguette and a soft mozzarella with blueberries and bread. These were delicious and super filling! Course 2: baby carrots had a sweet purée that was very good. The radicchio was bitter and the sauce was a bit salty but some like that sort of thing. Course 3: lamb risotto was not games at all and quite nice. I usually don't like lamb but this was very good. cacio e pepe was so simple yet made so well. It was good! Course 4: duck and pork chop. Both were good but we were already so full from the previous 3 courses we couldn't finish. The duck was tender and not games at all. Again I typically don't like duck but this was good! Course 5: desserts. They gave us an extra one as we were celebrating a birthday. I'm not much of a sweets person but the mousse and gelato were a bit on the salty side. The tiramisu was nice. We arrived at Vendemmia late on a Wed. The restaurant was, as expected, quiet with only one other table occupying the front of the restaurant. They sat the two of us at a two-person table anyway. It is a pet peeve of mine when they squeeze you into the smallest reasonable table when there are next-to-no-other diners in the entire restaurant. I decided not to ask for a roomier table. The restaurant is extremely dark (this will matter later). They save a lot of electricity there. I did consider asking to move to a table where I can see my food... Our waitstaff answered our question and gave recommendations. We specifically asked about size of main entrees and rather a pasta is needed. She also helped us later when we ran into a problem with the food. The Food: Columbia River Salmon, $44 - 4 Stars Menu: Served with summer squash, elderberries, romesco I took my first bite of the salmon, a 3/4-cm cut. I thought - that's oddly cool. Did I spend that much time taking photos of the food that it actually became cold? I made another cut. This time I can tell the knife feel is not as expected when cutting into cooked fish. I laid the piece down and took a good look at it. I can just make out that the piece is lightly seared on the four sides, similar to how a seared ahi would be cooked. I took my phone out, turned on the flashlight to verify what I suspected. Yup, it is completely not cooked in ALL of the middle. As much as I hate overcooked fish and love salmon sashimi, this in-between cooked/not-cooked salmon is just weird. I pondered a bit and decided to flag our waitstaff. I politely explained what I am seeing. She took a look at the fish, stepped away to speak with the chef, returned to retrieve our plates, and said the chef will remake our order. Unfortunately for them, we both ordered the salmon. The second time was PERFECTION. I decided not to ding this dish's score because they fixed the problem. But they also ignored us for the rest of the night except to ask if we want dessert and to give us our check. That is rather unprofessional. Snap peas with Dungeness crab, endive, chive, $19 - 2.5 Stars This was light and refreshing. But none of the flavor profiles standout, except for the snap peas. The Dungeness crab wasn't discernable, either. (The red colors in my photo are tomato bits.) I probably would have been happier with this dish, without the crab, at half the cost as a veggies dish. G.H. Foccacia, $7 - 4 Stars Served with an olive oil, balsamic, this bread is really, really good. Fluffy with just the right chew. I wish they didn't serve the olive oil and balsamic in the deep container, which made mixing more difficult. A shallow dish would have been much better. The overall rating is more of a 3.5, but they didn't give me a reason to round it up to 4. read more

I came here for restaurant week with some friends and got the prix fixe for $50. The restaurant was packed at 8:30pm on a Friday, which was to be expected since it was the last weekend of restaurant week, but you probably want to get reservations in advance even outside of restaurant week. The lighting is super dim, which I'm not a huge fan of but may be good for dates? I enjoyed all the items in the first course except for the mushroom bruschetta, which is kind of surprising because normally I love mushrooms. I just didnt enjoy the texture and I think I remember it being a bit sour and not a flavorful mushroom like I imagined. I thoroughly enjoyed the pork belly (which was hot and crispy), the endive with crab (very refreshing), and the pork rillette. The next course was a hearty clam pasta. There was a lot of pasta on this plate and I ended up feeling very full after this one. The clams were great--I wish I had more! Noodles were nice and chewy. Last up was the panna cotta. This was velvety and I love when creamy desserts are paired with some fruit, so I enjoyed the raisins and whatever other compote was on top. However if I'm being honest, I think the other dessert (olive oil cake) was better and I wish I had gotten that instead! Overall, I liked Vendemnia but felt that the $50 price tag was a bit high, which is why I'm knocking off 1 star. This place is definitely my new favorite pasta place! The owner is super funny and nice to us. All the pasta are al dente and did not expect it's a big portion! So I can enjoy it again the next day. I personally love the Tonnarelli with fresh clams! The noodles are so buttery and seasoned so well. The clams are so fresh and no sands or rocks in it. I enjoyed the whole meal and gotten super full! Ugh I wish I can try the dessert though. I think it's better to share with your friends or family! They also have one special room for a big group/special events! Celebrated a birthday here and everything was great! So great, I forgot to take photos of everything we had. But, we started with the brussel sprouts and we couldn't decide between breads so tried both! I will say I was surprised that the focaccia did not come with balsamic. I had the spaghetti which was super yummy but it's a good thing I like things a little spicy because that pepper sure had some punch. Service was great and attentive. Vendemmia is closer to a 3 1/2 for me. Great atmosphere, lovely and attentive service, but ultimately the food can't compare with some of the other Italian restaurants of distinction in the area. Vendemmia makes a very good first impression. While the space is minimal they've done a great job of making it feel warm, inviting and intimate. I really enjoyed the experience of being in Vendemmia and I have no doubt if I lived in Madrona I would come get dinner here on a regular basis. The staff was also very nice and accommodating without being too present which is always the perfect balance. I always felt that I was being looked after without being regularly interrupted. The food itself was a mixed bag. We had the crab salad which in many ways was the star of the show. The crab and the greens were extremely fresh with a very lite creme fraiche that only complimented the tastes rather than overpower any of it. Next up was spaghetti with a tomato and chili flake sauce - the pasta itself cooked perfectly and clearly of high quality but the sauce lacked flavor and sadly made we wish for much bolder in taste; I immediately thought of all the robust and complex tastes you get out of most pasta dishes at Spinasse and Artusi, and in comparison this didn't have much going for it. Lastly we shared the pork shank and while the salsa verde with polenta was absolutely decadent and delicious, the pork had very little in way of flavor and I ended up not eating much of it. Seattle restaurant week (SRW) is the best time to check this place out! I made a very last minute reservation for a solo meal for Friday 5:30 (literally after my 3pm meeting, then wrapped up work and took a bus after), as I saw that it was SRW and you get all 4 appetizers for the table as part of the experience. $35+tax+tip for something that feels like a 6 course tasting menu with decent food is just unheard of elsewhere. The 4 appetizers: 1) Arancini: a ball of rice is the simplest way to put it. It is rich and garlicky. The parmesan cheese has a little hint of sweetness to it which was interesting. 2) Chicken liver mousse: this was presented at the same time as the Arancini. It's good the way they executed the dish, but I'm not much of a fan. The bread was burnt so that's a miss. 3) Hamachi Crudo: this was a small piece but very juicy and there's some chili sauce in the middle that makes this dish have a slight kick. 4) Chicories: this was a funky and strong dish that's tangy and a bit bitter. It's intended like that and definitely fits well that this is the last dish they gave as the "appetizer." There's blue cheese as well that is quite sharp. Main course: I opted for the Brodetto which is a black cod with clam and prawns. I was actually deciding between this and the Cappellacci but the latter is featured in their regular menu so I could just check that anytime if I come back. The cod is so flaky, tender, and slightly buttery! The skin is slightly crispy and is not burnt at all, so their preparation is on point. The supplemental seafood (prawns, clams) is quite fresh. These are placed in a tomato-base broth that is tangy and slightly spicy with some vegetables. Dessert: I chose the spiced honey panna cotta which is somewhat light but also a bit on the sweeter side of panna cottas. The shortbread has a pumpkin spice which fits perfectly in this autumn season. Service is decent and the cadence is great. Water refills are relatively constant and they were able to keep up with how much water I tend to drink during a meal. It was a 1.5 hr experience and I was not rushed at all, so this did feel like getting the chef's tasting menu at a fine dining restaurant, except that it costs a fraction of the price. read more

Beef Tartare ($15) - amazing, perfect with the grilled oil-soaked crostini Focaccia ($6) - Standard, came with balsamic and olive oil for dipping Heirloom Tomatoes with Ricotta ($18) - bright and sweet, loved the silky Hollandaise-like sauce that sits on top of the pool of ricotta Parpadelle ($19) - distinct lamb flavor contrasted beautifully with the tart yogurt and chopped olive pieces but overall the dish was a bit over-salted Mezzaluna ($18) - seven small moon shaped raviolis, also a tad salty like the parpadelle Olive Oil Cake ($10) - rich with nutty/fruity olive oil, not too sweet, exquisite Drinks: Union Express ($13, nice and smoky), Sweeney's Gimlet ($14, fragrant and refreshing) Portions are small but I left full at the end! This is a difficult review to write because we live just a few blocks from Vendemia and have had many good evenings there. But we have decided to no longer support restaurants that charge a service fee. Vendemia now charges a 4% service fee before tip so it's an effective 5 percent tax. Seattle has the highest minimum wage in the country even higher than NYC. And inflation and higher prices have hit all of us hard and we do not feel that a business that says they and their people are somehow deserving special compensation is not something we can support. We have not dined at an ESR restaurant in years because of the fees and now sadly we will no longer be dining at Vendemia. Also last trip the oysters were horrible. We watched someone who'd obviously never shucked an oyster struggle to get ours open, completely shred them all and half of them had so much shell in them they were inedible. Despite living directly across the street from this enticing establishment for the past 4 years, I finally made my way in for dinner for the first time just last evening with a dear out-of-town friend. From the warm greeting we received from the manager/host, Silva, to the delicious salad (with an extra side of green goddess dressing!) and perfectly al dente pastas (2 different selections) to the professional yet personable service...it was a lovely experience. Kicking myself for having waited this long to enjoy this neighborhood gem. I'll now be making the 50-pace trek several times per month. read more
