Mexican chorizo breakfast burrito with hashbrowns.
    Gene T.

We were looking for a good breakfast in Sheboygan and came accross this place online. It wad almost 9am in a Friday and the place was full. It is a small dining room. We only waited 5 minutes before being seated. After reviewing the menu, I decided on the Mexican chorizo breakfast burrito. This is a large spinach tortilla stuffed with chorizo, onions, peppers, Jack cheese, and topped with salsa, avocado, and sour cream. The breakfast included hashbrowns. The burrito was massive. I thought about getting a container, but it was too good. So I crammed the last bite in my mouth and began planning my return trip for lunch one day.

This is the best hidden breakfast gem in Sheboygan. There is limited seating inside but it is worth the wait if you end up having to. They change up their specials often! The food is spectacular and authentic. We come here every time we are in town and have never had a subpar meal!!!

Vene's is tucked within a quaint neighborhood, in a literal house (namesake). The dining area is the front room of the house, with maybe 12 tables. They were taking quite a bit of to go orders, which I imagine may be easier than chancing it with a table on a Saturday morning. We don't have to wait, we seated ourselves, and had amazing service. It's an inviting space and they really take advantage of every inch of that front room. We ordered the Southwest omelette with a side of New York cheesecake stuffed pancakes with strawberries on top, and a fresh eggs meal with two eggs, hashbrowns, toast and added in bacon as a side. Everything was so amazing that both of our plates were fully clean by the end. They did a fantastic job with our requests, husband wanted crispy has browns and I wanted crispy bacon. Both were met wonderfully. They have won awards for a reason. Go here.

Unfortunately, during…read moreour last few visits, we've experienced a recurring issue with other guests allowing their children to watch videos or play games on devices at a very loud volume. This isn't a criticism of the children themselves, but rather a reminder that parents should be mindful of those around them. The excessive noise can be disruptive and takes away from what is otherwise a great dining experience. A little consideration and courtesy would go a long way in helping everyone enjoy their meal. My suggestion would be to sit nowhere near the counter.

I got seated right away, and everything from the friendly service to the quick turnaround (food hit the table in about 10 minutes) set the tone for a solid experience. I started with a cup of their cream of vegetable soup, and wow--this was the sleeper hit of the meal. Creamy, super flavorful, and seasoned so well that I didn't even reach for the pepper shaker (which is rare for me when it comes to cream soups). Just spot-on. For the main dish, I went with the hot turkey. It came out looking a little suspect--grill marks and a slightly dry appearance--but ended up being way better than expected. The turkey was actually tender and flavorful, and the gravy on top tied it all together. My only complaint? There wasn't enough of that gravy! A double portion would've taken it to the next level. Overall, Parkside is doing diner food right. Great place for a comforting, no-fuss meal. I'll definitely be back.

f you're in Sheboygan and not eating at Black Pig, respectfully, what are we doing?…read moreThis meal had me wondering why I don't make the trip to Sheboygan more often! Black Pig was such a great find, and everything we tried was packed with flavor. We started with the White Truffle & Black Pepper Bacon Fries, because regular fries simply weren't invited. The truffle and black pepper added so much flavor, and these were the perfect way to kick things off. Next up was the Shellfish Rangoon, filled with crab, scallop, and shrimp and topped with tahini-cabbage slaw and pineapple sweet & sour. The combination of flavors was unexpected but worked so well. Then came the Black Pig Cheeseburger, an 8 oz Niman Ranch USDA All-Natural Prime Beef burger with Hooks 1-year aged cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a house-made brioche bun. The burger was flavorful, juicy, and satisfying. I finished with the Endless Rhubarb Summer mocktail, made with rhubarb shrub, lime, simple syrup, ginger ale, and dehydrated lime. It was refreshing and the perfect way to round out the meal. The service was amazing from start to finish. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made the entire experience even better. I also loved how spacious and clean the restaurant was. It has a comfortable atmosphere that makes you want to sit down, enjoy your meal, and stay awhile. Overall, Black Pig is absolutely worth the drive from Madison. Great food, creative flavor combinations, amazing service, and a spacious, clean atmosphere. I came hungry, and Black Pig definitely delivered.

As you might expect, the menu is decidedly pig-forward, although there are plenty of other excellent options. The Wine Spectator- recognized wine list is absolutely incredible, featuring many bottles you would be hard-pressed to find even at high-end restaurants in much larger cities. We started with the Belly Belly Nice appetizer, featuring thick-cut Duroc bacon served with three dipping sauces. All were delicious, but the whole-grain mustard was an absolute must. The duck confit leg and thigh was ridiculously good, easily one of the five best duck dishes I've ever had. Others at our table enjoyed the Big Pig Burger, which was juicy and packed with unique flavors. Another standout was the grilled Ibérico pork pluma, which was prepared beautifully. I would make a special trip back to Sheboygan just to eat here again. It was truly that good!

Swedish pancakes aren't quite as light (we've gotten used to something more crepe-like) as we'd prefer but still great. Also some menu additions with Mexican/Spanish influences which we gave a shot with the Barcelona Breakfast (a rice skillet). Nice touch with the breakfast links cut into coins and browned crispy (but not dry) to top the skillet. You can dial the size of your breakfast as you'd like. For example with the pancakes, one, two, or three, and for biscuits and gravy, one or two. Love the complete renovation that's brighter with new booths and bathrooms. There's a full on bar too but difficult to take advantage of while on the road. (Gotta stay sharp through that Milwaukee area construction).

What we got wasn't great but l'm hesitant to generalize it to all the good because looking around. People were eating with gusto! We both ordered the Farmer's Breakfast because it contained ingredients eggs-actly what we wanted. Unfortunately it was very dry and kind of tasteless. The potatoes were overwhelming and were not crispy fried at all. So while I'm not complaining of oily hash browns, it certainly needs some oil or butter in the preparation. I saw someone with an actual skillet of breakfast and maybe that would be more to my liking. I would probably come back next time I'm visiting Sheboygan and give them another chance. Hopefully, I just chose wrong on a menu of so many options! PS the mixed drinks were quite reasonably priced, and they even had two HUGE glass jars of homemade liqueurs. But u don't drink much and certainly not this time of day, lol!
