Stopped in Black Pig on a whim for an early solo dinner on a Saturday. The staff was super attentive and told me all about their specials. I ended up getting an old fashioned and the duck confit. Both were delicious. The duck was fall off the bone tender and the sauce was amazing. The old fashioned was great too, was even garnished with some bacon. The waitress was kind enough to let me sample one of their appetizers, I think it was a salmon mixture on top of a crostini. I also got to try their snickerdoodle cookies. Both samples were great and I really had to resist ordering a full plate. The only critique I have is the music choice. Seemed like they were stuck in an early 2010s pop track. The risotto was great! The pulled pork sandwich somewhat bland. I expected uniformly superior quality at this price point. 4% surcharge on credit AND debit cards borders on usury (since credit card processing fees only cost merchants about 2.5%). We stumbled in to the Black Pig on a Tuesday night. We were so happy it was open! The restaurant is large and inviting. Some of the chairs are bench seats, though, so not the most comfortable. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. The menu had lots of great sounding options. We ordered an Oat Old fashioned to start which had really nice flavors and not too sweet. I've now visited twice - one for lunch and once for dinner. The food is solid - some items are really good (special burger that had confit on it was a standout) but some items are just ok (fries...kids meals). Service was really friendly and the room is nice and large so you don't have tables on top of each other (but leads to a somewhat sparsely filled restaurant atmosphere). Decent wine list and pricing was reasonable. It's just somewhat hit or miss with the meals (pulled pork should be amazing here, right? But it's only ok...it wasn't very warm and I thought flavor wasn't anything special - I would have expected for the pig vibe, that their pork would be truly flavorful and tantalizing, not something I could get somewhere else). read more

Way overpriced for the portions you get. Subpar flavors, was expecting a lot higher quality based on pricing and listed ingredients. Server automatically added gratuity for 5 adults and an infant. He was very attentive but missed taking our orders correctly. We were new to town and looking for our new go-to restaurant. Living within walking distance, we thought this would be perfect. We came for a late afternoon meal. We were the only table. The ambiance was fine, but the music playing was strange. As we were leaving, the music was changed to something that made sense. Perhaps what was playing was for the staff while prepping for the evening service. Again, we were the only table,e and it took quite a while to get our order in, get our drinks (I understand it is really hard to pour a glass of wine,) and a beer. We had asked the water what the most popular dishes were. The appetizer was fine. Our main courses were served lukewarm and were disappointing. My Pork Ragout contained very little "Ragout". My husband ordered the BBQ Pork Mac, again, a lot of macaroni and little pork. We ordered a dessert. Seriously! Why would you serve a stale cake or a Crème brûlée with a milky custard base, and topped with a not fully torched (not) hard caramelized sugar crust? Iffy service and food. We came for lunch on a week day and the place had quite a few families, many with kids. We ordered their Golden Bears Farm pulled pork sandwich, pork ragout pasta, and duck confit profiteroles. My favorite was the pulled pork sandwich- it was everything it should be, filled to the brim with meat and dripping with sweet and tangy barbecue sauce. The cole slaw provided a nice contrast to the heaviness of the meat. The pork ragout pasta was ok, but I felt like it was overpowered by the strong cheese and I would have liked for it to highlight more of the pork portion. I would skip the profiteroles- the three pieces that were served were truly bite sized and the pasty was not the puffy, light version that I was anticipating. It seemed like every other table that day brought their children or grandchildren so I do think that this place is very child friendly. They immediately offer kids crayons and a coloring sheets, and have plenty of high chairs and booster seats available. However, when we ordered off of the kids menu- mac & cheese, mini burger and fries, we never got the latter two and the kids menu is supposed to come with a drink too, which our server never asked us or offered. When I asked about the drink that came with kids meal, she was like, sure I'll bring it. The mac & cheese was a substantially portioned so I ended up not asking about the fries or burger. It ended up being $50 a person but that was a three course meal. We shared two desserts: flourless chocolate cake and grilled lemon pound cake. I'd skip the pound cake. We really enjoyed Black Pig. We had a caesar salad & the house fries to start, as well as a Cherry Stout and their Oat Fashioned on tap. My wife enjoyed the fish (halibut, we think) special, and I had the Iberian Pork Pluma, which turned out to be super tender with two delicious sauces incorporated. My sister loves the Black Pig but feels like everytime she goes, their gluten-free options change. The fries are only gluten-free when fried in pig fat. One server told her they did not have gluten-free noodles, so she got zucchini noodles, and then the next time she went, they confirmed that they always had gluten-free mac and cheese. I am a very big fan of there Ragu. It is so of the best I have ever had. I was here about a year ago and they had enlarged the dining room. Food was great but it was so loud with low service. This restaurant equals the best I've had in any state I've been in! I had The pork chop and oh my goodness! It was huge and it was delicious, every bite what is an experience in excellent cuisine. I am ultra picky. We ordered salads and the Mediterranean plate. The salad was outstanding. However when someone's is sharing a salad I should not have to ask for an extra plate. The appetizer plate was not great. The pita was undercooked. It looked more like a tortilla than pita. The hummus was good and the falafel was delicious. The tzatziki was over seasoned. Way too much garlic and the cucumber was huge in it. The orzo was under seasoned as well as the tahini. The spanakopita was outstanding.
