I took a King Sized Comforter to be dry cleaned, was charged $50 and they shrank it. Owner Mike Van Wilder refused to take responsibility. He has not responded to my complaint to the Better Business Bureau. He has also not returned the comforter for me to use as evidence in small claims court. read more

The worst cleaner I have had used. The first time I used them and the last one. Impolite and unable to get anything clean. Don't use them.

We have patronized the Nokomis store for over ten (10) years. Some glitches, but acceptable, but never again. My wife brought three of my silk Tommy Bahama shirts there earlier this month, as I needed them for an upcoming trip. We have had those same shirts cleaned there without problems. They over treated and/or used a hot iron to press. 2 out of the 3 expensive shirts were stained/burned/shredded beyond repair. In the end, management accused us of turning in damaged shirts; the shirts were old and cheap and referred us back to the manufacturer. read more

This place, on Venice Island, is horrible, to say the least. The job they did on my shirts told the tale. Shirts were wrinkled, collars were crumbled. I had to re-iron all 18 shirts! And, the price, was high.. I believe it was $3.25 per shirt. These people are living on past reputation, obviously. Not to mention, the facility was filthy dirty. Try it and you will see what I mean. This place does very good work, but has a hard time handling normal difficulties, such as one lost shirt. Eventually, they located the $125 Brooks Brothers Country Club shirt left for dry cleaning. Even with ticket, it required three trips to retrieve. I was told "the ticket does not matter" and asked not to come back. The confusion was the scan label which they glue to the garment (previously, it was there under a different name, so 'the ticket does not matter'). Well, the People's Court says differently. 3-stars because the work is solid. Disappointing because the girls are easily flustered, and the owner acts like the Soup Nazi. I took 4 84" panels of cotton drapes to be cleaned. When I got them back I noticed some stains (which were likely there when I took them but obviously not removed which they could have mentioned!) and the panels are not straight (in the pressing process) so they do not meet together. Ok - not that big of a problem. I took 4 more panels for cleaning and they came back in the same condition - spots, curved edges so again they do not meet. In addition to the above, in the span of one month the price doubled! "We had a price increase"! 100%???? Live and learn - never again. read more

I've had mostly positive experiences with the RT 41 near Laurel Rd in Nokomis. I usually take my "freshly" cleaned items off the wire hanger and put them on another type. The last couple of times I didn't. Well I did this morning, approximately 4 weeks after receiving them back from Venetian. 3 of my linen tops looked as though they were just rehung on the wire hangers; a pair of cream colored lined capris had a yellow staining on them like a solution wasn't evenly applied. I just put them in the washer and am keeping my fingers crossed that the stains come out. This same staining happened quite a few months ago with them too. I brought the item in with NO stain and got it back WITH one. The owner, John quickly rectified the problem, so I continued to use them. With this latest experience, I'm not sure I will continue to. I dropped off an item a few days ago and hope it comes back without any issues. read more

This would be a great place to open a dry cleaners as it is apparent that the staff here has no idea that they are in a service industry. Wanted to have two dresses hemmed. I did a google search and was happy to find that the Venetian Cleaners (which has locations in both Nokomis and Venice) lists (in the General Services Tab of their website) that they have "Alterations staff on premises to give you the perfect fit." It does not state anywhere that; a) alterations are not available at all locations, b) that the alterations staff is not available at all times and c) that a phone call to check availability of a seamstress or an appointment for alterations is recommended. First went to their Nokomis location to find out that they do not do alterations and that I needed to go to the location in downtown Venice. When I walked in, there were young three ladies behind the counters. None of them came to the counter to greet me and help me, but rather one yelled across the counter "what did I need." I responded that I had two dresses that needed to be hemmed. Her reply "Well she's not in, so we can't help you. I can give you the name of somewhere else." I mentioned that this did not seem to be the way a business should be run. Not greeting a customer and not attempting to be more helpful before sending the business out of the store and losing a potential customer. Instead, of making any attempt to be helpful, her response to me was a hair flip and a smart exchange between the three of them directed my way. She did not ask any follow-up questions to ascertain what I needed. For example: 1. Would I be willing to come back another time? If so, this would have been a great time to let me know when their tailor would be available and keeping a potential client rather than simply referring me out. 2. Asking me if I had the items already pinned up or knew the number of inches the items needed to be hemmed. (Which I did.) In this case, I could have simply left the items (that were marked for hemming) and picked them up at another date. Needless to say, I won't be back. A shame too as I have several dresses that need hemming as I find that I don't wear many heels in Florida and they are too long for my sandals. Rather, I'll wait till I go back to Chicago and have them altered there. At least in the Midwest, we remember what its like to be courteous and the value of new and return customers. The owner and operator of Venice Cleaners practices abhorrent business principles. The cleaners lost one piece of my five piece bedding set. I made three trips in to the business and two phone calls. The owner's response was that I could bring in the receipt for the items and he would reimburse me. The onus was all on me. He could've gone on to the Pottery Barn website ordered the item and had it delivered directly to my house, but he chose not to. He didn't do it because he doesn't value his customer's patronage. When the girls at the counter brought him my receipt, instead of greeting me or even apologizing, he just said "so it's 1/3 of this total?" He didn't offer to pay the tax or shipping costs on the receipt. After giving Venetian Cleaners my business they not only lost my article but the owner did not have even the smallest inkling of business savvy to acknowledge the hassle and cost to me the customer. I didn't except his money to replace the item, as I was so insulted as a customer. In his shoes I could have thought of about 10 different ways to express to a customer how sorry I was that my staff had lost their items. He told me "they didn't lose the items - that it was just bundled in with something else and must've gone out with another order!" That statement in itself shows you how willing he was to accept the responsibility of losing my item. I could've found five different ways to try and find my article. Did he ever think about calling the few individuals that had bedding cleaned at the same day to see if it was stuck in their order? Did he think about a note at his counter for his regular customers to check their articles for an extra piece of bedding? He didn't do anything simply because he doesn't care about his customers. He charges a top dollar but doesn't provide even average services. Services are well below average. As I read the other reviews online I see that lost articles are an issue for this business. And when others talk about his counter staff being"unable to solve a problem" please remember he's the one who trains his counter staff. read more

The negative reviews are the correct ones. Yes, items were cleaned, but 1) Not ready on day promised on the ticket 2) Pressing done incorrectly (pants without a crease) TWICE despite the instruction for crease written on the ticket. 3) We went to Nokomis store, which sends everything out. Counter people showed no responsibility nor caring about poor service. Two stars rather than one because the cleaning/pressing WAS eventually done, decently -- but it should not take 3 trips and an extra 2 days. Take an extra 15 minute drive N on Rt. 41 to Soka Cleaners and Tailors. Excellent pricing, polite, customer focused. It's just not that hard -- but it seems finding a decent cleaner/alterations shop in the Venice to Sarasota corridor is not an easy task. read more

Don't go here- I brought 70 dollars worth of work clothes here and when I got them home three all smelled like cat urine mixed with something else unmentionable. They told me there was a bacteria in the machine to bring them back for recleaning and after 2 recleanings they still smell awful. The manager had the nerve to suggest that the clothes smell because of "wear" I can tell you no human being smells like my clothes smelled like when they were returned- needless to say I wasted 70 dollars and I have to rewash them all- I won't be going there again- the girls at the front are very nice but the manager is totally unprofessional read more

I brought a dress that I wore once to be cleaned. When I picked it up it had been damaged in the cleaning process and is ruined. I have been going to the other location in Nokomis for years and they lost many pieces of clothing I have had dropped off there and took no responsibility for it. The management is non-existent. I called this store to see if they could help and the woman who answered the phone was very rude and talked to me in a way that no employee should ever talk to a customer. This company totally ruined a formal gown and did not tell me. They just clipped the totally destroyed dress onto a hanger so that it appeared all was well when i picked it up. No mention of any problem or damage. I discovered the unwearable condition of the dress when I unpacked the gown from my suitcase to dress for a formal military event in another state! talk about unpleasant shock. The whole neckline of the dress was broken and the dress was ruined and unwearable. This is a vintage dress- replacement or repair will be next to impossible. Do not use this company. I took the dress back and all they offered was a refund of my original cleaning fee- $18.40. They advertise the ability to clean wedding dresses and other formal wear so I assumed they could handle a formal gown. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY OF YOUR DRY CLEANING.
