Well, let me start off with the good. The staff was very friendly. We got there a few hours early and they were able to accommodate keeping our luggage and even giving us towels to go down to the beach. The lady cleaning the rooms was very polite and welcoming. It also is right on the beach, which is super nice if you're only gonna have a short trip and want to make the most of the beach. The bad: it was definitely a rundown. They need to do a lot of upgrades in the rooms. The AC was very loud. The blind slats were broken, and so was the lock on the slider, there was a stick in the runner. There was a huge hole on the bedroom ceiling. The shower was tiny no coffee pots/pods. There were no type of kitchen towels or paper towels to use we ended up having to use a bath towel for the kitchen. read more

Room was dirty (separate and apart from the expected sand) and a few notable things were broken, i.e. the bathroom window and headboard. Desk chair appeared like it was covered in bird poop and the fixtures were outdated. No coffee in the room (not even instant) and none was available at the front desk. Staff were awkward. read more

Though the hotel was right on the beach, our room looked and felt filthy. Window slats were broken and looks like there's mold growing behind the toilet. Stayed here last night. The room was clean and it is located on Venice Beach. If you are looking for somewhere fancy to stay this is not the place for you. If you are looking for somewhere to stay that is clean and on the beach that won't cost you a fortune then book your room now. Location- perfectly located right in Venice Beach on the beach walkway. Hotel- rooms are compacted in to this small building so the WALLS AND FLOORS ARE VERY THIN. You can hear EVERYTHING. Parking- $20/day. Be sure to reserve at the time of booking. Staff- front desk is blah. Overnight security guard was pleasant. The staff was so accommodating and you can't beat being inches away from the beach. They have nice outdoor areas for you to hang out at, overall loved the stay. Recently stayed at Venice on the Beach Hotel. The place is amazing! Right to the beach with the beautiful ocean. The room is very clean and comfortable! And the most incredible is the manager- Larry. He is the sweetest person I ever met. He made our stay very pleasant. Was very quick check in with no problem at all. He was there to answer all our questions, and when we need something-he was there to help us with a benevolent smile and attention to our needs. Lovely place and incredible employee. read more

Parking is atrocious, basically non existent. For $350 / night, parking should be included. TV in room did not work properly and desk clerk did not know how to assist, bathroom is so small the shower door only opened 1/2 way banging I to the sink. "Extra large" double bed, is JUST a double bed, nothing extra and very hard. So disappointed. The ONLY plus was that I walked out of the hotel and right onto the beach. read more

The room was very clean. The walls are thin so don't get too crazy. It is in a great location there are bars and restaurants at walking distance. Loved that I could walk right onto the beach from the hotel. Don't forget to reserve your parking when you book or else you'll have to go to a 24h paid parking 7 blocks away, had to pay $35 for the night. The attendants are very nice and considerate. Went online to Hotels.com and booked one night at the hotel. It gave me two options... I may purchase it at the time of making my reservation or I have the other option of "pay at the hotel." I opted to pay at the hotel. I then received an email from the hotel asking for credit card as they wanted to do a pre-payment. I told them that was not what I agreed upon on my reservation with Hotels.com. They continued to tell me that in order to keep my hotel room I would need to pay upfront. Again I told them that that's not the option I had chosen on Hotels.com. They then suggested that I go onto their website and read their policy. Needless to say... I canceled altogether and will take my business elsewhere. Nowhere during checkout and booking this room did it state that I would need to do a pre-payment or pay anything upfront. They should disclose this somewhere while checking out/reserving. read more

My best friend and I stayed overnight here and had the best time. We only had time for a one night getaway and this place was perfect. Absolutely love this little gem of a hotel. We had a great experience here. We only stayed one night, price was decent, good for being right on the boardwalk. We were assigned a queen size bedroom with a view of the boardwalk and ocean. Some might say it was a little small, but the view definitely made the size better. It was perfect for us!! Greg, who checked us in was very friendly, gave us tour and let us know how to get to the hot spots. This hotel kinda felt like being in someones home, it was cozy, quiet and you kinda felt like you were the only one staying there. The hotel was pretty secure, gated and had key code for entry into the hotel, which made you feel safe when you arrived late at night or if you were just hanging out on the patio. The hotel is located down the boardwalk where a lot of the nice homes are located, so you weren't in the middle of the boardwalk chaos. There are 2 patio areas one on the roof top with a great view of the Pier and the boardwalk and the lower level patio with tables and chairs for lounging. Parking was easy for us, the manager gave us a parking permit to place on our windshield and we were able to park right outside the hotel(in the back alley). Which worked out great for us, if you've been to Venice before, parking can be a real hassle The next time we decide to stay overnight in Venice, I will for sure try this place out again! read more

Aweful experienc! I believe I was scammed. I went to their own website to book the queen suite with the kitchenette and so many things were wrong: Floors were sticky, bathroom shower had black mold, There was shit on the toilet cover, The bedroom mattress & the pull out couch mattress were ancient and thoroughly uncomfortable (clerk gave us another comforter and two thin blankets to put under sheets) didn't help anything. We could feel the coils! My sister had to sleep sideways at the end of the mattress on pull out couch mattress to avoid the bars sticking through. At 4:30-6:30 the next morning, whoever was upstairs with boots on, made a ton of noise, moved furniture, etc., so there was no sleep! (told the clerk, nothing was done. it happened every morning!) The slider to patio and beach view was broken-absolutely wouldn't slide so we told clerk again who said sorry and did nothing but say just both of you push it. My sister and I spent 40 minutes digging out years of packed dirt in the tracks and spraying WD40 but it still didn't slide without tremendous force. There was a piece of wood in track for safety because it didn't close all the way and had no lock! the screen didn't close all the way either! The kitchen, floors and bathroom were dirty too. No paper towels or cleaners or clean sponges were available. We had to buy them. We decided we just couldn't stay and clerk said did you book with us, I said yes and he said we can refund your money for the nights not stayed-you have until 11:00 to decide. We said we'd think about it & returned a 1/2 hour later, at 10am, to say we were leaving and suddenly he said I had booked with Expedia.com. (I have never ever used Expedia or any other third party to book a trip.) Then he pulled a fake bill out saying I had paid $1300+ through Expedia. I said I booked with you directly and spoke with you! I booked directly through the website and called the front desk to book with the clerk. $1300+ for 4 nights. When I looked at the email confirmation, it looked like it came from Venice on the Beach Hotel, but evidently, not sure how, but a third party (Reservation Desk.com) was involved & had tacked on $505.00 more dollars in more "taxes and fees" and it was non-refundable. He refused to refund the money. We didn't sleep for 4 days and only used shower once because it was all moldy. We had to wear shoes or peds the entire time because our feet were sticking to the floor! We never opened the sliders because we hurt our backs trying to move it! I had stayed there 20 years ago when it was under different management. A few years ago, when I was visiting family, I stopped by and took one of their business cards and that's the same number that's on their website, the same number I called to book the room. Something fishy is going on when you book with them. Something is not right. They didn't care that things were dirty or wrong in the room. Sad. It's a great location, but it is subpar for how expensive it is. Awful experience. Just awful. and doors to the hotel are kept open so anyone off the street can just walk in. We left it cleaner than it was and took pictures of all the filth and chips in the floor and the mold, etc. Awful experience. :( read more

I'd rate 5 stars if I could, but unfortunately I didn't get to actually stay there, as my vacation plans were cancelled. However, their customer service was amazing, which can only mean my actual stay would've been even better. They clarified any issues I had booking with a third party website, (SAVE YOURSELF TIME, DIRECTLY BOOK WITH THEM.) were patient in answering all of my annoying questions and emails, and made my refund a breeze. Although it said I would receive it in 5-10 building days, I received it in full in 3 days. Overall awesome, other hotels should take notes! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The pictures are a little deceiving as yes you are right on the beach but it looks a lot better in the ad it's somewhat of a trap. The boardwalk is pretty disgusting and even though it closes at 9 people are partying all night and we stayed on a Tuesday. I booked on Hotwire so I didn't actually pick this place but one thing I made sure was the ad said there was parking and there is NOT parking. They recommend you park in a garage that is several blocks away, charges $20 a night and is only to store your car. The attendant told us we were not allowed to go in and out. They also charged me a $250 deposit which was fine I got back but they never even advised me they were charging me this and Hotwire did not either. I would absolutely never stay here again. The room was decent and pretty clean but also didn't feel safe as it's a key code entry and no other way to truly secure the door. Also our door had to be lifted up to close. read more

Gorgeous and cute old-school hotel right on the beach. Rooms are clean and well appointed. Brightly decorated but smallish rooms welcomes. The evening manager is incredibly nice and did everything possible to make our stay perfect. The day manager is also a great guy. My family enjoyed staying here for two days. The continental breakfast is minimalist but the important stuff is all there (e.g.bagels, coffee, juice, out meal, yogurt). Beds are comfortable. Strongly recommend calling in advance to reserve a parking space. read more

This little boutique hotel is perhaps the most expensive 2 star hotel you'll ever stay in but well worth it. The location is fun-tastic: located directly on the quieter part of the Venice Beach Walk (towards Marina Del Rey), with the wide beach right in front of you. Venice Beach pier is close. The hotel: A three-story-house with small, cozy rooms, but newly renovated. Comfortable beds (mattresses on the harder side) and small bathroom with shower. Great rooftop with awesome views and terrace on the lower level. Service: Attention to detail and friendly check-in. Breakfast included (bagels, coffee, tea, fruit) which I like. A Starbucks is also in walking distance. Parking is extra ($15 per day). I recommend bringing some ear plugs as the rooms are not much isolated and it can get a bit noisy from the hotel neighbors or the street. Albeit the high prices this is my favorite hotel in Venice - can't beat the location! read more

This is the perfect location for the beach! This is a tiny hotel with tiny rooms but so worth it! I was not aware I needed to arrange for a parking space in advance...one of the down sides. They only have a few parking spots and after those are reserved, it's street parking a few blocks over for everyone else. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and the ocean breeze met us in the hallway from the doors open. Check in was easy and off to the beach we were. They provide beach towels at the front desk. After our jaunt in the ocean, we laid out on the loungers provided. They also have comfy couches and chairs also with a gas fire pit. They have an outdoor shower as well as a place to just rinse your feet before going back inside. The fire pit isn't automatically turned on but they assisted us with our request quickly. We enjoyed the sun setting from outside. The hotel is just a few minutes walk to the merchants in Venice Beach. It's also only about a 15-20 minute walk to Gold's Gym. The room had a fridge and a nice size closet that our suitcase fit in so we could get it out of the way. The rooms do not have A/C which unfortunately caused an issue for one of us. The ocean lacked any breeze the night we stayed so it was very warm in the room even with the windows open. They offer a continental breakfast which we didn't make it to as we were out exploring. They have scooters and bicycles you can find to rent close by for more adventures. We didn't want to venture out for dinner so we used Yelp and had food delivered without an issue. It was a nice and calm place with a beautiful view and just a few steps to the beach. We will definitely be back again! read more

He tried to claim that we never called him, even though we had it in our phone log. He was unreasonable when we asked him to discount or give us an upgrade, despite the hotel being empty. It is a bit dated, but they have done remodeling and it is relatively nice. Plus, you are literally right on the beach. Cross the running trail, and dig your toes into the sand. If you get a room facing the ocean, you can hear it all night and go to sleep and wake up with that sound in your ears. Rooms are neat and clean. Rates are very reasonable. In the neighborhood of million-dollar beach town homes this little pink jewel is quite a find. It is just a brisk walk down from the Venice Pier and W Washington Blvd with much of the nightlife. It is also very close to Marina Del Rey gorgeous neighborhood (I would HIGHLY recommend taking a stroll there, as it is definitely one of the highlights of this area). I don't know if the hotel still allows it, but when I stayed there, you could walk up onto the roof. It has some pretty great views. People watching from the stone-and-glass covered yard is also one of the highlights -- be it morning, day, or night, you're bound to see some interesting characters walking by. One of the cons is the limited parking. In the back, they have some parking spots, but I can see it being a potential issue, so call ahead to ask them if you're planning to have a car during your stay. I just arrived back home in Miami after a 4-day visit to LA. I have to say that this hotel is AMAZING. The customer derived is top-notch; one morning I woke up and had almost completely lost my voice, the next day it was a little better and the nice woman at the check-in desk said "your voice is better today!" When have you gone to a hotel where people even care?! I am freelance photographer and had a glitch with my battery, she charged it for me after k checked out while I roamed around Venice with a friend. The room, amazing. The views, amazing. I enjoyed my stay at VotBH, but I was not thrilled at how tiny the rooms were. There were 2 small chairs but one of them was always blocking something - the walkway, the fridge, or the nightstand. The bathroom door, when open, blocked the wall-mounted TV. There is not enough room for 2 people to comfortably pass each other anywhere in the U-shaped tiny wedge of space around the bed, and it is impossible for 2 people to be in the bathroom unless one is in the shower, which is, you guessed it, very small. It feels like a somewhat upgraded dormitory, especially with so many rooms crammed into each floor. The Venice on the Beach Hotel makes up for these shortcomings, however by being a) RIGHT on the beach, within view and earshot of the waves and b) having a very nice (if astroturfed) roof deck, where it's nice to just stare into the Pacific Ocean and watch the passerby down below. There's always a bunch of dogs that stop to take a drink out of the dog bowls, and it's nice to see all the different breeds of furry friends people have, and the dogs are almost always happy to be somewhere they can run and play more or less freely, that was a nice added bonus. Late at night it also makes a wonderful place to just sit and think. There's also a nice downstairs courtyard. And it's a short walk from the pier, the canals, and the main boardwalk area. Other amenities include wi-fi and a halfhearted continental breakfast, standard sorta fare - apples, oranges, bagels, cereal, milk, juice. I would give this place four or five stars if the rooms were even a small amount bigger. As it was though, my husband and I were tripping each over whenever we were both awake, so it made it tricky to get the full relaxation we were hoping for on our getaway. read more

No parking, poor guest service, and bugs in the room. My boyfriend made a reservation for last Saturday over the phone. While making the reservation he was told there was no parking available at the hotel but that there was plenty of parking around the hotel on the streets that was 24 hour parking and would be available. Upon arrival we waited two hours for a hotel manager because nobody was manning the front desk. The cleaning service told us several times that the manager was on lunch and would be returning in 20 minutes. An hour and a half later they called him and told him there were guests waiting for him. He then had a conversations with the cleaning person and she proceeded to open up room 2 for us and asked us if we wanted our things while pointing to someone else's luggage. We explained to her that we were checking in and that luggage in room 2 wasn't ours. After the manager finally showed up and checked us in we tried for another hour to find parking before we were told that we could park at the hotel in the manager's spot. When we got back to the hotel the manager on duty told me how they never do this but they are doing it as a huge favor to us and basically made me feel bad about it. We finally got into our room and there were bugs flying around it. Our tv stopped working right after we got there. Overall it was a very poorly managed hotel. read more

For a sightseeing vacation of L.A. area, you can't miss with this hotel. It's right on the beach and just around the corner from several great restaurants and bars. It doesn't offer much in way of services or extras but when your purpose is to enjoy the sights, it's not likely you'll be spending much time in the room anyway. There was coffee, juice and sweets for breakfast as well as internet access. The rooms were average in size, comfortable with flat screen TV and kitchen with small fridge. There's only a few parking spots behind the hotel but we were fortunate not having any difficulty getting one. We were told, however, that there was free parking available a few blocks away. We selected the cheaper rooms to the back. The only noises we heard were the garbage and delivery trucks. Of course, the hotel can't be held responsible for this. There's also a patio right along the main walking path or on the roof to sit and have drinks while watching people go by or just looking out over the beach. I loved Venice Beach and will definitely go back! Riding a tandem bike along the beach was great fun! It's also not far from Santa Monica pier to take in the amusement park or do some shopping on 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. read more

An amazing weekend spent at the Venice on the Beach Hotel. The room was perfect size for two. My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the Ocean Front rooms and do not regret it in the slightest. We were able to open our windows completely, lay in bed, and watch football... all while breathing in the ocean breeze. Continental breakfast was perfect. Didn't need much- a few bagels, some bananas, coffee, and yogurt was a perfect start to our morning. The man at the front desk was MORE than helpful allowing us to check-in early, mapping out EXACT spots to park/exact spots not to park, and a friendly hello every passing. He had a positive demeanor and was extremely welcoming. Location could not have been better- we felt safe, we had places to eat/drink, and we could roll out of bed and onto the beach in no time. Such an amazing hotel, not only is it comforting and cozy being that's it's a boutique hotel but the location is awesome. Me and my girlfriend stayed there for a Valentine's get away and we enjoyed ourselves. I had a lot of serious work to do and I did not want to get disturbed and hence I chose the Venice on the Beach Hotel in Los Angeles. The setting was perfect for me as the room was equipped sufficiently for my needs and also had magnificent view of the ocean. I liked the wooden flooring as I don't care too much for carpeting as they tend to be smelly. The free Internet access was at good speed and I was able to accomplish most of my work. My stay at the hotel for eight days was on a fixed routine. The morning would start off with the free breakfast, where the pineapple juice, bagel, cheese and butter were my staples and ended up with strong coffee. Then I proceeded to the room to start my work for the day. For breaks during my work, I switched on the flat screen TV to watch any sports program. Some days, I ventured out for a few minutes of brisk walk on the sea front taking in the ocean air. A few times I had taken my breakfast to the sun decked terrace and enjoyed the added benefit of a magnificent view of the ocean. read more
