I found Mel on Yelp and decided to get an estimate from him. I told him that my computer suddenly stopped working and I have some pictures that I would like to retrieve. He told me "no problem," he would try and see if it was possible, and gave me worst-case scenarios and other options if he wasn't able to retrieve the files. I dropped off my PC at his business and he got right to work. A few days later, he informed me that due to the factory installation location of the memory stick right next to two high heat sources, the memory chip was fried. He asked if I would like to retrieve the data, explaining that he could send it to a specialist, but that it would cost an arm and a leg to do so. He found me the best deal on a trustworthy memory brand that would last me. I picked up my PC and he explained all he had done. He was able to find a different location for the memory stick and installed a heatsink to prevent future failures. My PC runs better than it did before. Disappointed with recent service at the Rainbow/Oquendo store. I needed a hard drive replaced and…read moreafter 2 entire days they still hadn't recovered the data from the old drive, for which I told him I had already backed up (?). In addition, they couldn't tell me how much longer it would take them to complete. Frustrated, I had them put it back together and return to me at the end of day 2. When I got home, they drive was not assigned as G:, as requested and now the optical drive wasn't working - I called the shop to see if they touched anything and was promised a return call in 5 minutes. I opened the chassis and found both pugs had been pulled from my optical drive. I can see no reason this had to be done. They finally called back the next morning. "um um, I don't know" I can do these repairs myself. I thought I would save myself a few steps...and boy, was I wrong. I ended up spending quite a time getting the PC back to its normal state.
