I'm giving this site 5 Stars, not because of any service or amenities, but because of how easy it is to get over here to Ventura and enjoy an extended holiday or day trip. The train drops you off right in front of the Ventura County Fairgrounds. This is a brief walk out to the beach area [for your beach day trips] or to some of the local hotels. Perfect walking distance to most of the Downtown Ventura shops and restaurants. Save yourself a lot of grief and turmoil from freeway driving. Take the train up and begin your adventure rested and ready to go. Frequent drop off times throughout the day. Ride the rails and enjoy!! read more

The Ventura station is very small, no frills. One track, a few signs and nice palm trees around. I like that is really close to downtown, a few minutes walk, near the beach and next to Ventura's Fair Grounds. Besides being located so convenient, nothing else. No one works here, there's no ticket booth, no restroom, no announcements via screens, voice over, nothing. The trains are late, not well marked, not impressed with Amtrak! read more

Station I think denotes more service oriented location... this is simply a platform to catch and deboard the train. Easy to use... some benches available to sit on. Just a short jaunt from downtown Ventura. Easy driver pick up and drop off location. read more

Had a idea to take the train instead of flying to save money and I had the time. There is not train service door to door so buses are involved. Ventura to Bay Area involved a 3 bus ride to Central Valley to get train. The bus was fine, but the driver had a real problem with me putting my bag on the seat next to me because he said that I'm not paying for that seat even though the bus was very empty. When I got to the train, it was fully booked but clean with decent seats and OK Wi-Fi with USB plugs to keep my phone charged. The train being one of the cheapest ways to travel reflects on the people that take it, which were the people that you don't see when you are flying because those prices are probably too much for them to pay. There was a lot of stops in the total trip took about 13 hours from catching the bus to getting off in Richmond, California. I would recommend bringing it along anything that you want to eat or drink with you. They did not have a dining car, but they did have Bins filled with Cheap snacks like Doritos and cookies. It's kind of loud on the train with lots of people talking and listening to their phones with the volume all the way up no regard for other people's privacy so I would recommend noise canceling headphones if you would want to sleep or something like that , Would I take the train again probably not and if I could go back, I would've flown instead. I know that trains are much better than other countries and I will take the train there because it's so much better. read more

Pacific Surfline's Tran - From Chatsworth goes to Ventura station ... Ventura Station has easy acces to beach, pier and promenade. The county fair and many other events with easy access from the train station. . Train was more than an hour late- with no notice! Oversold too, standing room only in Coach. Clueless Amtrak- needed to add more trains. Good Idea to get tickets in Business Class if it's a busy weekend. Snacks and coffee, drinks, and a Cafe in Coach. read more

It looks like I'm going to Venture out and write a review of the Ventura Station. This is an old school station, with a platform that has a bit of shelter but little else. That shelter is green and cute, but this station is pretty low-key to say the least. In fact, low-key doesn't quite describe it. It's nice though, and it has the California palm trees and the beautiful hills and whatnot. It reminds me a lot of the Goleta station. read more

There is nothing remarkable about this station. It's a stop with some shelter. It's nice to see the palm trees and the beach a short distance away. The downtown area is not that far away and the Ventura County Fairgrounds is right there. Coming from Los Angeles, my friends and I took the Amtrak for a day trip in Ventura at the Tequila and Taco Music Festival. read more

I have done a lot of traveling in and out of this station. I go from Union Station to Ventura pretty regularly. I always go on the train and pay for the Business Class upgrade. It's so much quieter and roomier. It's so worth it. There is wifi and electrical outlets for your electronics. I don't know why they can't adhere to the schedule, but every single time I have taken the train it has been at least 10-12 minutes late. It is extremely frustrating. I found that downloading the Amtrak app helps, because it will give you train status updates. It's easy to purchase your ticket and you don't have to worry about it. They do come and check, so don't think that you can go to Business Class and they won't find out...they will. The ride is really nice during the day there are some beautiful mountain views going through Camarillo. My issue is that there are only 3 trains, one of them is a bus, and I did not know this, until I hopped on the bus without a ticket, because it was so late, I thought it wasn't coming. I didn't want to purchase without getting on the bus. California law does not allow you to buy a bus ticket without buying a train ticket. (Something about Greyhound complaining)...I had to call and get Amtrak on the phone to buy the ticket and the train ticket. The driver was kind of rude about that. There is no one around at the station, so, I didn't know. Also, the place that you pick up the bus is different from where you pick up the train, it's on the opposite side of the train. There is little shelter and it can get chilly in Ventura as evening hits, and it can be warm when its in the afternoon. So, it would be nice if there were a more of a protected area and a water fountain. read more

I write this as I am coasting on this lovely coastal Amtrak line.... Anywho, this is more of a stop than an actual station, just some benches, signs, and automated ticket machines. It's outdoors so can get kinda cool with the Ventura weather, but trains are always early or on time it seems so you don't need to wait in the elements real long. This stop is prettier than most of the one's we've passed since, being on the fairgrounds, near the ocean and all the palm trees. There's plenty of room nearby if you're being dropped off and their fairgrounds has that gigantic parking lot, though I'm not sure if you can leave your car parked there all day/night/weekend. For train rides, especially ones this long like the one I'm on (Ventura to San Diego) and waiting for the train itself, I recommend bringing something to keep yourself busy whether it's a book, your smart phone, or even a laptop (hello free WiFi!) I love the plenty of luggage space these trains have and the cafe car is well stocked with snacks and drinks along with some nice booths to sit in if you need some you time. read more

There's nothing wrong with this station. I love amtrak and I like Ventura. This station is convenient because it's two blocks away from the mission and downtown Ventura. A short walk to the beach! This station is a little boring though. I went to the station about 30 minutes before my train's scheduled arrival (just like Amtrak recommends). I didn't bring anything to do besides playing games on my phone. I like stations with food and places to walk around. This station didn't have any of that. read more

This is one of Amtrak's unmanned stations for the commuter lines that start in Goleta, travel to San Diego and then back up north in reverse. These stations are made for short stops on these lines. Like their counterparts, including Goleta and Van Nuys among other stops, there is no checked baggage and the stop lasts approximately 3-4 minutes. When I was commuting from Santa Barbara I arrived and departed from right after sunrise to the last train after dark and never felt unsafe. Generally there were four to six passengers waiting on the platform. Taxi drivers can see the platform from a short distance as well. The evening it was raining the two roofed areas was more than enough room for six of us including our baggage. And as with every other their trip, the train was less than ten minutes late. read more

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Bus was 40 minutes late, called customer service and the lady was smacking her gum saying they would give me a $10 voucher if I missed my connecting train and that was all they could do. The bus came and it was dirty, tacky, and it smelled so bad. Don't waste your time or money. You're better off driving, flying, or even WALKING to your destination. read more

Overall the ride is pretty easy and everything is fairly straight forward. It's actually a really pretty commute and so far everyone has been really nice. It's definitely easier than flying and for short trips seems worth it. My only complaints are the AC is incredibly powerful - way too cold and wifi is pretty weak. Also it was late by 20 minutes both ways. All in all, I will take it again as it still beats LA traffic! Great idea for groups and or work trips. Business class is a little darker with larger seats and tables if you want. Pretty cool idea! read more

This train system is horrible. Will probably be loosing my job because it can't adhere to a normal schedule. On top of that the conductor was extremely rude and smart alloc when I asked why we were sitting on the tracks for an hour with no update from the driver. This is absurd. This train runs three times a day. Being late should never even be an option. People have jobs and schedules and rely on a consistency when planning their commute. read more

Nice simple little station (well, its more of a "stop" than a station) that's located right next to the ventura co fairgrounds. Good place to jump on the train to head north - as far as San Luis Obispo, or south - to L.A. or even all the way to San Diego. Save yourself the headache of sitting in traffic and looking for parking. And with gas being what it is, you'll probably save some money (unless you drive a prius). A group of us took the train up to Santa Barbara over the weekend and although it was very convenient and fun, there were issues with one of the Amtrak employees. My sister got on the train in Camarillo and my two friends and I were getting on at the Ventura station. My sister found 4 seats together and was saving them for all of us. A female employee with short curly brown hair told my sister that she was probably going to have to move her because a family wanted to sit together. When my sister told her that three of us were joining her in Ventura, the woman was very rude and said she would still probably have to move. There is no assigned seating so it was completely unfair the way the woman treated my sister. My sister was however able to keep the seats as the woman didn't come back after threatening to move her. When the three of us got on and joined my sister, the same woman came to check our tickets. We were enjoying breakfast together of donuts and orange juice and as the rude woman was asking to see our tickets she accused us of having brought alcohol on board. When we showed her that the orange juice container was indeed filled with orange juice she just walked away. So unprofessional. We can't be the only people she's treated that way so why she still works there, I have no idea. read more
