Amber was very sweet and a great technician but this place is too overpriced. They aren't very transparent about the cost.

It's JUST okay. I've been here a few times and I've never been blown away by their services. My manicures always seem to chip so quickly, regardless of normal or gel manicure. And in general the paint job is always mediocre -- very uneven. Their products don't seem to be the best. Now I just go here in a crunch, but this would never be my main spot. They're nice enough people and it's a clean shop, but overall it's an average experience if it's close by for you and you don't want to spend too much. A regular manicure is $15 which isn't bad for DC. Also, they don't do massages which is not something a nail shop has to provide but it would be nice. read more

Visiting from California and my nail polish started chipping so I came here to get a new manicure since it's just right across the street from the condo I'm staying at. No reservations, walked in at around 6pm and the manager told me that they could take me ASAP- great! I picked a color, and sat down with Nara. I prefer minimal social interaction when I'm getting my nails done because I like to enjoy the service that they're providing instead of creating small talk (I'm weird like that sorry!) and she did not bother me throughout her work, which I liked. I'd have to say that the hand/arm massage was on the short side...but I guess I didn't come here for a massage, so whatever... ( 1/2 the reason for -1 star) . I really enjoyed how the salon heats up your hands so that the lotion absorbs. The mani was amazing, very neat, very clean, and extremely shiny. The other 1/2 reason that contributed to the -1 star was that during the UV process...my technician just left me sitting there (OK, understandable), but when the time ended for the UV process she didn't come back to tell me it was done or good, so I awkwardly got up, handed her the tip and left....... OVERALL I would not say that the -1 star should keep me (or anyone) away. The mani was really good, and Nara did a great job. Will come back if I visit West End area of DC :) read more

First time going, and they were able to fit me in for a pedicure on a Friday afternoon with two other friends. (I called ahead and made a reservation - no wait when we got there.) I echo some of the other reviews... it's not a fancy establishment, but it is more upscale than many nail salons. The women are great. We were offered drinks, which is a nice touch. And the pedicure itself was wonderful - thorough and well-done. The hot stone massage was so relaxing - a lovely bonus! I paid $30. Well worth it! read more

Having just moved to DC, I was having trouble finding a nail salon that was affordable, on my way home from work, and had good reviews. I decided to go a little out of my way to give Venus a shot. I called to make a pedicure appointment for the next day after work. It was a great experience! The gentleman who seemed to be running the place was so nice and so quick to help. They offer green tea, soda, or water (I went with tea) while you get settled in. I had to wait for my technician to finish up on someone else, but I was in no hurry. My technician was nice and very meticulous in getting things just right. I felt very pampered! Major things to know: * You can pay with credit card, but bring cash for the tip. My pedicure was $30 before tip. * This will be a relaxing experience. If you're looking for a super quick in and out this may not be the place for you, but you can probably request that they move quicker and I'm sure they'd oblige. I had nowhere to be so I was more than happy to sit back and relax which was very nice. * You don't need an appointment, but I'd recommend one for the busier times of day * AWESOME massage chairs. Obviously not quite as good as a real massage, but surprisingly close. * They include a hot stone massage for your legs with the regular pedicure, which was really nice! * The leg massages, which they do with previously mentioned hot stone, plus some sort of salt exfoliating thing (not a technical term), plus lotion were great, but there wasn't too much of a foot massage. Not a big deal to me, but I know it is t some people so I thought I'd mention it. Overall, my pedicure looks awesome, my feet are happy, and my wallet is not angry at me. Would never come back. Its churn and burn get them in and out no attention to detail I had to ask my attendant 3 different times to fix snags, hanging cuticle skin or loofah my heels better. Start to finish 12 minutes. And because she didnt understand anything I said, when I changed my mind about the scheduled gel manicure and just wanted a regular manicure she went on to the next person. When iasked anout the manicure the manager said i would have to wait 10 to 15 minutes. In that time 3 other people were serviced before me. So I left. read more

The manicure is really ok, nothing spectacular. I asked just for color and shape and that's exactly what I got. I don't want to brag, but I apply color much better myself. Even with my left foot. I meant hand :) The color chipped within a week. That said, I will still come back because it's cheap, clean and ok. read more

This is a great place! The technicians were very friendly and welcoming. They offered drinks while I was waiting. The atmosphere was very relaxing. I had a manicure ($15) and pedicure ($30) and used a $5 gift card that they handed out. The prices are very good. When I had my pedicure, they added an aroma to the water, gave me a stone massage, and on top of that they wrapped my heel with paraffine! When I had my manicure, they put my hands in heat mittens, and gave me a fresh lemon massage. It was a great experience! What impressed me the most was how they opened a nail package that was santized and individually wrapped right in front of me. So, I didn't have to worry about fungal infections and bacteria. Nothing that exceeded my expectations but definitely a nice/cheap/friendly place to come to get your nails done. Very sanitary process for the manicure, never had it done the way they do it here. I can imagine it being really full after work hours though so it worth coming at a time when it's slow! The polish selection is smaller than the nails salons in DuPont but still a good enough variety. I'm for sure going to come back here because the cheap prices and decent nails!!! I received the recommendation to go to Venus from many of my friends living in the area. Greeted with water or tea (whichever you prefer), my relaxing experience began. I had a mani pedi. The pedi you can choose from strawberry or jasmine bath scents. The polish on my fingers and toes lasted way longer than my usual mani pedis! I am new to the city and do not have a regular salon. I tried this out as it was close to where I was going out to dinner after. I made an appointment the day of, on a Thursday, and was taken right away when I got there. I had a gel mani on, and they soaked my hand in a cup of acetone for literally 1 minute then she started scraping off the polish (along with my natural nails) The actual salon was clean, and actually nicer than most even though it is small. I had Rachel as my technician and she was very thorough when she did my manicure and everyone was very friendly as well. I would def go back if I did not have gel on, because besides that the experience was good. But they lose points for scraping my nails like that and they also charged $5 to take my polish off. (I told them I had on gel when I made the appointment) Also, be prepared for a bunch of loud, bratty, obnoxious GW girls to be there.. read more

I've been getting my nails done at Venus since I moved to D.C. 5 years ago. I'm very picky when it comes to my nails. Edges need to be polished and my nails rounded at the ends, which thankfully I've never had to voice my annoyance for that because they do it automatically. I've never had a bad experience at Venus. I've tried pretty much everyone at the salon and there's been no let downs. Everyone is friendly and the owner up front taking the calls and appointments always remembers me. It is a little over priced but I rather pay for a great manicure that last vs one that'll chip in a day. Their hot stone pedi is also amazing! read more

So happy I found this place! I wish they had this exact nail salon where I'm from! They helped me right away even though I was a walk-in, and gave me the best gel manicure I have ever had (and I've gotten several in my life!). The nails were filed down exactly how I like them, not too short. Jenny applied 3 coats of color and top coat, and then shined them at the very end. I swear I could see my reflection in them! Do not waste your time or money if you are African American. The lady in this establishment behaves as if she is in her own country and she can select who she chooses to serve. I've seen them treat a Caucasian woman sitting there most respectively. At the end of my service, she told me also that I was required to tip 20% b/c my nails wers long! I only got a fill...so she had to use a bit extra polish. Go figure! Do not support this awful establishment ladies!! read more

One of the BEST pedicures and manicures I've ever gotten. I never feel rushed, the girls are kind and customer service focused. Picking the scents for a scrub or the lemon during the manicure, there are little things they do that makes the $45 for the mani/pedi worth it and a nice treat around lunch or the early afternoon during a hectic work week to run over there and enjoy it. They've got my business and it also means I don't have to have mani/pedi on my list of things to do during a lazy weekend. read more

Came here on a Friday afternoon, without an appointment. They were able to sit me down, and told me that it'd be a 5 minute wait. This was fine, since I wasn't in a rush, and could enjoy the warm water/massage chair. The woman that did my toes did a great job, love the option of which type of oil you can choose. Called Venus yesterday and was able to get an appointment within 10 minutes. They were very nice and accommodating as they didn't realize I had gel polish on and that it would need to be removed. They used hot, steamy towels and plastic bags to speed up the process, which was really nice. The fresh lemon hand massage was very relaxing, I wished that it had gone on longer it felt so nice! The manicure was nice, one of the better polish jobs I've had. There wasn't a fan dryer for me to put my freshly polished nails over to help them dry, but they had this nice UV/fan station that I sat at for maybe 5-10 minutes afterwards to ensure my nails were dry. At the end the put a quick dry oil on my nails. Minus 1 star because there are pieces of the old gel polish on a couple of my nails, causing them to look like there's chunks and specks on my nails (because there are) when light shines on them. I would go back again if I was in the area, but I'd pay better attention to my nails' condition before they're polished. read more

I was expecting very little. I got my eye brows waxed. While the girl was doing it she was very timid. I assumed it was going to look bad and I'd have a bunch of stray hairs. For the first time in my life, there were no stray hairs and I needed no touch ups. I have been to many high end salons and this has never happened. Okay so I literally just walked out of this place from getting a full set of acrylics and a pedicure. I rang this morning and the guy at reception said they could fit me in at 12. Great. I had wanted to try this place before as one of my friends goes there frequently and her nails always look great! So I walk in, get told to sit down and wait for someone to see me. My nail lady was the only one not wearing black (presume some kind of uniform they have) or a name tag, so I can't even tell you her name to AVOID. I ask for my full set of acrylics, she spends about 5 minutes trying to tell me I don't need acrylics and to get one of the more expensive options. Urgh. I rarely get acrylics but sometimes I like to treat myself to something other than a mani with my own nails. She was rude and cut so so many corners. She piled on the acrylic powder/gel so thick and half way down the nail so my nails already look outgrown. She refused to actually communicate with me for instance when she wanted me to move my hand, she would nod her head in the direction. Like really. She cut my nails way too short. They are now the size of my original nails when I walked in. I don't pay for nail EXTENSIONS for them to be the same damn length. Kinda defeats the object. She didn't speak to me once about anything, as I looked around and saw all the other nail technicians talking to their clients. My nails are wonky, way too think, and look down right unprofessional. For $50, believe I am MAD. I've honestly had better nails from cvs that I've stuck on myself. I'm so so disappointed. Okay onto the pedicure- I sit in the chair, nobody offers me a magazine or a drink as I notice everyone around me has water and a magazine. Ok whatever. The pedicure was poor. She paid no attention to my actual FEET - she didn't massage them or exfoliate them- just my legs?! I wasn't there for a leg massage- the whole point of a pedicure is to make my feet baby soft. There was a woman next to me who was started on 20 minutes before me. My lady was done with me before she was done. She cut so many corners and I watched her as she did it. She didn't even go around the edges of my nails with nail varnish remover to get rid of the smudges. She then moved me to the fan station, put oil on my toe nails when she thought they were dry- they weren't and it smudged my big toe nail. I was extremely reluctant to tip at all, the man virtually demanded I did by saying 'do you need change' when I had paid my card?! I walked out and said to him that I was really not happy with the level of service. He looked at me completely puzzled as I listed everything that was wrong. I feel this place would have be great had I had another lady doing my nails and pedi. Annoying. I wish I knew this woman's name so if I was to come again in future with my friend I could specifically ask NOT to have her. read more
