Good for a healthy lunch! I've visited Verde twice now, and they weren't busy either time. The interior had a modern look, plenty of natural light, and a casual ambiance. They had both indoor and outdoor seating, but I got my food to-go. My first visit, I ordered the Avo Toast bowl with chicken. All the ingredients tasted fresh and went together well. The chicken was a bit dry, but that was the only negative. My second visit, I built my own bowl, which was basically just the Good Gourd, but with chicken instead of bacon, and added avocado. This bowl was also filling and tasty, but the chicken was once again on the dry side. For drinks, I made my own Arnold Palmer, which was great. Service was fast and friendly, and they have a punch card to receive a free salad after 10 visits. Would return again! read more

We went here around 6p on a Friday and we were the only people. I don't know how or why because we loved our salads! The menu was a bit overwhelming but once you make a selection it's solid. The guy behind the counter was young and seemed irritated we didn't know what we wanted... he also didn't know if the dressings were made in house or premade, which was a little odd but whatever. This salad chain is a hallmark of Charleston but has expanded to this strip mall on the outskirts of Columbia. I probably would have been here sooner if the location was closer to the city. Overall, this is perhaps the best execution of the fast casual salad place that I've seen. The bowl is absolutely stuffed solid with greens (and given that I've ordered salads and been rebuffed more than once due to supply chain issues lately, this is not a trivial matter). There are a ton of options, and always interesting seasonal and local ingredients. Here I tried a seasonal salad based on cranberry and walnut going for a Christmas-y flavor. It was on the sweeter side and not quite as zingy as the mustard-dressed creations I sometimes get from Verde, but it was still tasty. Came here with a friend for lunch. Building our salads was a challenge for me. Sooo many options. The avocados looked questionable to say the least but everything was fresh. The star of the show to me were the pickled red onions. Crunchy, tangy, sweet - ah, chef's kiss! The Bowled Buddha was also a HUGE serving, it could definitely feed two people, maybe even three. Right away, this place has an inviting aesthetic with the comfort colors and wonderful lighting. They have the salad bar right in front of you so you can see every ingredient. This is especially important because of how customizable their salads are. I opted for the "Mesa Verde" salad with out any onions. The salad was absolutely delicious and filling. The restaurant called me to confirm the ingredients they were taking out of the dish based on my food allergies I listed in the mobile order, just the coconut bacon since it's cooked on the same grill as fish. The black bean burger bowl has grape tomatoes, homemade black bean burgers, green goddess style dressing, and homemade cornbread croutons. A true bowl of healthy deliciousness made with care. Verde is a cool healthy alternative in Columbia that offers chopped or tossed salads and wraps. We've been a few times and have had a variety of different options. On our first go round I went with the Buffalo cauliflower wrap that comes with chicken, Buffalo cauliflower, bleu cheese, hot sauce and lettuce (with any other extras you might want to add). It was okay, but honestly I think I just chose the wrong vessel. I feel like if you get anything besides a salad you're cheating yourself. Plus the wrap just doesn't hold up well with the dressing and sauces all mixed in. It just gets soggy, fast. Now, when we talk about salads, that's a different story. Delicious, I won't get into the details but we ate a verde twice while on the Daniel Fast, and while we may have gone outside the rules with the dressing (not on purpose)... the agave mustard is top notch. Essentially a honey mustard alternative, but dare I say... BETTER! The only downside is the price point. For 2 salads it's a bit over $20, which is high. I ordered a Romaine chopped salad with a few toppings. When I got home, I had to remove all of the lettuce as it was limp and blackened....just old. The toppings were good and I could save them. I mixed them in with my own Spinach lettuce so what's the point? If you're going to feature salads please have fresh produce, especially the lettuce. Absolutely horrible. I got the omega 3 (salmon) bowl. It came with a tiny sliver of fish, no avocado, no green onion, no added cucumber that I paid for, hard rice? and nearly all lettuce. On top of that, they gave me a random kombucha flavor I didn't select, did not add utensils when I'm staying in a hotel, and put the kimchi in the bowl and not on the side like I asked. I was really excited about a "make your own salad place" in Columbia; however, they do not follow basic sanitation/safety guidelines. One of the workers making salads did not have a mask or gloves on, not even one around her neck like she was even wearing one at all. The other worker came out of the kitchen touching her nose to then put the mask over her face... 1. Why are you coming out of the kitchen wearing no mask 2. Your touching your face before handling food, which makes me question how you prep ingredients in the kitchen. It was clear, we were no longer interested in getting our dinner from Verde. I am aware that mask or no mask is very controversial but if you are in the food service industry SAFTEY IS CRUCIAL, especially when there is a pandemic. If Chipotle can do it, so can you! We both got avocados in our salads and they were not ready, they were so hard we could not even bite into them.
