Got a sweet tooth? Satisfy it at this great little shop in Purcellville. They sell the standards:…read morejelly beans, licorice, M&Ms, gum drops, lollies - most of the stuff you remember from your childhood. As an adult, you will really appreciate this - they have a "chocolate bar" - pun intended! This is where you buy, by the pound, dark chocolate covered treats such as espresso beans, peanuts, almonds, and bing cherries. They're delicious. Right now, they also have a huge assortment of Easter candies. The usual bunnies (solid and hollow) in dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate, peeps, sugar eggs with the little scenes inside, lollies shaped like eggs and bunnies, etc. I understand they also do balloon combo gifts, but I didn't check on that. They have pre-made Easter baskets ready for sale. So, after all of this why not give five stars? The prices and the goods. Yes, the goods are old favorites, but I expected more. I thought this would be more akin to a chocolatier. They do sell some amazingly delicious flavored truffles (at $3.50 each), but I don't think they are made in-house. If I had checked their website before going, I would have found out that they specialize in gift basket arrangements. Hence, the balloons. Just think of a florist shop filled with flowers that are sold to the walk-in customer, but the florist specializes in bouquet deliveries. Same thing here - just replace the flowers with candy. Sum up: candy of just about all kinds, bulk chocolate, makes gift arrangements with candy and balloons, a bit pricey per piece or package, bulk bins of chocolate covered treats. All in all, a great nearby place to splurge on sweets.

I like how there are a variety of flavors and both ice cream and gelato. I ordered the kookie…read morecrunch which was so yummy with the little bits and pieces inside! The chocolate cone didn't taste that fresh... but it was still good. My friends didn't really like their strictly strawberry, strawberry cheesecake, or coffee flavors that much though. They were out of the coffee crunch and chocolate hazelnut which sounds like better options. The worker did make a remark in front of all the customers saying they need to stop working here during the summer and seemed stressed. I mean what do you expect for an ice cream store in a busy area on a hot day... that comment should've definitely been saved for private coworker talk. My other friends rate this place 3 stars.

Walking into Savannah's Candy Kitchen is an experience all by itself--the smell hits you…read moreimmediately and it is absolutely divine! I've been to Savannah's a couple of times before, and they never disappoint. We were in National Harbor on vacation, and of course--with kids in tow--we had to stop in and let them explore all the gooey goodness. Funny enough, they made a beeline straight for the ice cream instead of the candy... probably because we had already been it It's Sugar earlier that day! They tried a mix of flavors--birthday cake, wildberry sorbet, cookies & cream, butter pecan--and I went with mint chocolate chip. Every single one was delicious! The ice cream was creamy, flavorful, and definitely hit the spot. And let me just say--I appreciated the pricing. For the area, it was very reasonable. Not over-the-top expensive like Ben & Jerry's, so that was a win! Now for my part... I couldn't leave without trying a few treats. I grabbed a couple of truffles--raspberry milk chocolate, white chocolate, and a few others--and they were all rich, smooth, and delicious. But BABY... that giant turtle candy?! Whew! It was EVERYTHING. Crispy, fresh pecans, buttery caramel, and perfectly blended milk chocolate--hands down the perfect after-dinner treat. And don't sleep on the caramel popcorn with pecans--sweet, crunchy, and downright addictive! The service was excellent! The young ladies working the counters were patient, helpful, and friendly, which made the whole experience even better! Overall, if you're in the National Harbor area--or anywhere you spot a Savannah's Candy Kitchen--do yourself a favor and stop in. You are absolutely in for a treat!

After dinner one night, we walked around downtown Bethesda and happened upon Henry's Sweet Retreat…read more Luckily, we saved room for dessert, and Henry's hit the spot. We got a blueberry pop tart, and some raspberry scones, along with a chocolate covered vanilla cupcake. Yummy! The only problem is that Henry's is not just a dessert bakery - the store may appear tiny on the outside, but it's huge on the inside. In addition to the bakery, they got all kinds of candy and other goodies for sale. I gotta stop back in another day and try all the other good stuff inside. Plus, you can tell from the Rick Astley-inspired sign outside, Henry's has a great sense of humor. This is exactly what small business brings to the neighborhood. Stop by and visit Henry's Sweet Retreat - you'll be glad you did!

Had dinner at a diner down the street. Looked up dessert near me and this place came up. NOT…read moredisappointed! We had brownies, sundaes, milkshake, cupcake and coffee. All of it was DELICIOUS! The small sundaes were huge! Kids could not finish them and at $7ish each hard to beat for the quality! I had an eggnog cupcake. I was not sure it would be good but whatever magic y'all put in it worked great together! The frosting was light and fluffy not too sweet not too bland. And the cake was moist, not crumbly, not heavy just perfect! Had a latte with soymilk because my belly does not care for milk in coffee. Local coffee company supplies the beans. They also have pretty much any kind of candy, pies, and sweets you might need and apparently they cater! Stop in you will not regret it...unless you do not like sweets and then I am sorry.

We walked inside and were immediately greeted by an older lady. She asked where I'm visiting from, I told her Connecticut. She said "well, in Connecticut, you're known for Mystic Pizza. Here in Virginia we're known for our peanuts!" I never knew about Virginia peanuts. She handed me a few handfuls of different varieties of peanuts to sample. These peanuts are larger, drier, crunchier than others I've tried, and they have so many flavors. I don't mind peanuts, but they're not my favorite snack. In addition to the peanuts, they also sell the typical things one might find in a touristy gift shop. There's candles, magnets, tee shirts, and other items that say Virginia on them. I liked the outdated look of this little store. The lady working here was very friendly, if it weren't for her I would never know about the Virginia peanuts.
