Randomly discovered this bakery/cafe on a little road trip when I was desperately seeking an oat milk latte (which was surprisingly hard to find on the drive north from Houston) and couldn't be happier! Kylie and McKenna were working today and they are the kind of people that make you want to be a regular. The breakfast croissant sandwich on their homemade croissant was delicious! Add the remoulade for a little extra flavor. We also got a bunch of cupcakes to go and the lattes we were craving did not disappoint! The lovely ladies also answered a bunch of questions about their menu and it's clear they also are fans of the quality fresh baked goods and sandwiches they serve! They were also packing up some custom cakes that looked beautiful. Street parking was easy and the bathroom was clean. If I was local, I'd be here every week for sure! Ordered a wedding cake ($350) and grooms cake ($150) for my wedding. The grooms cake arrived damaged, crooked and melted. It clearly had been knocked over during transport as well as gotten too hot. The delivery person stuck flowers in the holes that were present which looked awful. The wedding cake was melted on the second layer, luckily I was able to turn it around. We were told by Shelby we would at least receive a refund on the grooms cake and never did, she won't answer any texts or calls. UPDATE: I have never received the guaranteed refund via card or check despite communicating for over a month read more

Best thing: New Orleans jazz on a good music system and fast friendly service from the charming counter. Lots of great decor in this old place that could be in the French Quarter. Food.....meh. I had told them about my bad experience with another bakery. Even though it was a last minute order I placed on Wednesday for it to be ready by Saturday afternoon, the cake was gorgeous, delicious, and moist! The cake never fell off sideways from the base while sitting on top of my lap nor did it fall apart. I would definitely go back here! I forgot which flavor I got but this flavor was very good! I also got white chocolate ganache on top. The picture inspiration compared to what I got also looked very similar except I opted out on the macaroons and the chocolate covered strawberries on top. read more

I was just visiting my brother in town and saw this place on Main St. When you walk in, there's so much to look at! It's a gorgeous place to grab some coffee and pastries. I got a hot latte with lavender and hazelnut (and oat milk): it was PERFECT!! My brother got the seasonal gingerbread chai latte and loved it! The breakfast sandwich (with bacon and swiss) was so tasty and very filling. Also, the staff knew what they were talking about and really made us feel welcome. I want to say, Amy is very sweet and tried to fix the mistake that was made the best she could. That being said... I called and emailed pictures of what I wanted for my daughters first birthday party. It was a simple two dozen cup cakes and a smash cake. I wanted to be sure to get exactly what I wanted, so I personally stopped by the shop and placed the order with Amy. She assured me everything will be ready and delivered on Nov. 19th. I placed this order a few weeks ahead to be sure it was done right. I tried to call and could not get in touch with anyone most of the day on the 19th. I left a message and around 5pm when the order was to be delivered, Amy called and apologize said my order was misplaced. She will stay and make the order and bring it asap. My party started at 6pm. I wanted a vanilla smash cake, she only had chocolate ( not the end of the world) so I agreed. I got a call around 6pm staying she is on her way with my order. When Amy got to my house, she apologized again and gave me a full refund. I could tell she was embarrassed and had tears in her eyes. I understand things happen. I didn't expect this order to be so bad. The smash cake was very cold inside and not smashable. The color of the cake was great, the flowers were kind of sloppy but again no big deal considering it was about to be demolished by my daughter. I wish I had tried the cup cakes ahead of time but the shop did not have many to try. No one at the party liked the buttercream icing. It did not taste like a true butter cream. My daughter loved smashing into what she could of the cake, had fun with the icing. We enjoyed watching her do it. Unfortunately I wished this order had gone differently. I grabbed lunch to go from Vernele's today and all my food was fresh and delicious. I ordered gumbo, a side salad, and boudin balls. I would recommend all three. The gumbo was a little thick for my preference but the flavor was good. Definitely check this place out. Made my first trip to Vernele's. I was very excited to find a Louisiana themed restaurant in Conroe and couldn't wait to try it. I had a cup of chicken-sausage gumbo and a shrimp poboy. The gumbo was a thick roux gumbo, filled with lots of bell pepper and onions and had great flavor. While it was thicker than what I make, it reminded me of what my mother made when I was growing up. The disappointing thing was there was virtually no meat in it! One slice of sausage and two little bitty pieces of chicken. The poboy was okay, ehhh, kinda. The bread was good. The amount of shrimp was okay, but they did not have a fresh shrimp flavor. But, what really threw me was the cocktail sauce on the sandwich. It seems there was both cocktail sauce and either mayo or tartar sauce. I'm from South Louisiana and have never had cocktail sauce on a poboy. That was just weird. If I go back, I'll give clear instructions what to put on my poboy. Service was good and all the workers were very friendly. read more

We've been meeting there for a month. We've ordered coffee(thought it was a coffee house) or water every time. Today we didn't order when we arrived. Got busy talking and forgot. The pink haired boy came over and asked us to leave. I went and ordered coffee and was told we were loitering. Sitting a coffee shop, talking, really. So very unfriendly and unprofessional. I've seen Verneles New Orleans Bakery mentioned several times on a local Facebook Foodie Page. So when making a trip into Conroe today, we decided we would give it a try. First, all three younger staff members completely ignored us and we virtually had to ask a young girl with dyed bright orange hair if we could actually tell her what we wanted. She seemed utterly dumbfounded by the request. My two kids and myself all had cupcakes. Let me tell you, they were the stalest cupcakes I've ever had! They had to have been days old. We chose Vernele's New Orleans Bakery and Cafe to make our wedding cake, and they did not disappoint. Shelby made and delivered an amazing cake, 4 tiers with different flavors. It was divine and looked exactly as we'd hoped it would. On top of that, she did an amazing job placing the flowers on the cake. We were so pleased with how it turned out. I tried her bacon bourbon cupcakes and they were great. She also cooks cakes and other bakery items. Her work has a Louisiana flair to it...and the best part is that she's always smiling. As far as i know she does not have a commercial location yet. She takes custom orders by phone. For me it was not good....I can not speak on any other item at this bakery because the only item ever purchased was a Chantilly Cake With Whipped Cream And Fresh Berries on their menu...and speaking of berries whoever assembled the cake there was only a few on one side and more on the other side ( uneven) My mistake on thinking this was going to be the normal Chantilly cake with wonderful mascarpone ,butter and heavy cream frosting WRONG! it was some type of fluff more like a jar of marshmallow cream and folded in whip cream...... so so so sugary I could not Finish it and never had another slice. 65.00 later and sad ......I had to go to Whole Foods to get the real thing! IF you like the taste of a marshmallow cream frosting super sweet then you will like this...... I am a baker,I have many recipes for Chantilly cakes ,I've made many of them myself for Anniversaries and parties. And each recipe I have has Mascarpone frosting. Since I came from another state to visit I did not have a kitchen to bake in so this was purchased. I guess in the future I know that not all Chantilly cakes are the same and you must ask if Mascarpone is in the frosting. read more

Ordered two cakes from Vernele's for a party. The cakes looked as good as it tasted, both terrible. The icing tasted generic and store brought. Nothing about the cakes were custom made unless it custom made by an amateur. The first cake was dry and without flavor. The second cake was so dense it could have been cornbread. The appearance was just unappetizing. There was no thought or care put into these cakes. It was just a careless job. I can't believe we paid over $200 for these cakes. I had to buy another cake because the person who the cake was for started to cry. This may seem like a harsh review, but if you saw and tasted these cakes, you would understand. read more

OMG! We ordered a coconut creme cake for my Dad's 85th birthday. We all agreed that it was the best cake we have ever had and the price was very reasonable. The 10" cake was at least 6" tall. The cake layers were really moist and the coconut creme filling between the layers was so yummy. It was like the filling for a coconut creme pie, which we all love. The coconut cream cheese buttercream frosting was smooth and not too sweet. To top it off, the entire cake was covered with toasted coconut. I can't say enough about how great this cake was. x Although I would like to try some other cake flavors, it will be hard to beat this coconut creme cake. I really wanted to like this place and my guess is that their coffee and baked goods are wonderful, but we ordered (takeout) 2 crawfish po-boys with Cajun fries, 2 Cobb salads and two orders of Gumbo. The po-boys were ok in size and the fries were ok but everything lacked flavor, even the fries. The Cobb salads ($7.50 each) were really, really tiny. I am guessing each one had half a hard boiled egg and one piece of bacon, a pinch of cheese and maybe 12 leaves of spinach. I mean, they were no more than a quarter the size of a Chik-Fil-A salad, seriously. For $7.50. The home made blue cheese dressing hardly had any blue cheese flavor at all. Lastly, the gumbo was ok in size but again had no flavor. As I said, I really wanted to like this place and I know that Cajun food is kind of a recent addition to their menu (the maskless owner told me this while we were waiting), but they need to remove it from the menu and stick to what they apparently do well. read more
