There were 3 very small, flat scallops in my dish. The meal was very salty with crunchy pieces of bacon bits. As my meal started to cool off there were small chunks of grease forming on my peas. For entrees, my brother got the seafood provincial, my SIL got the Pasta platter, my niece got the seafood Alfredo, and I got the pesto fettuccini. Competition is fierce, carbs are plentiful, and expectations are high. I lived near East Ave for years and somehow never wandered into Amore... a personal flaw, clearly. First impressions? Fantastic. The ambience is classy and warm, with a real effort to evoke parts of Italy without feeling cheesy. From the moment you arrive, there's valet service, someone opening the door, a friendly greeting at reception, and then you're guided inside. We headed straight to the bar, which is always my preference. Better people-watching, better odds of snagging seats, and an overall more fun vibe. Pro tip: go during happy hour, which runs from 5-6 pm on M-F. The bar was lively but not chaotic, and we had no trouble finding two seats. The happy hour menu is genuinely one of the best parts. Appetizers and select pizzas are discounted, and it's a great way to sample the menu without fully committing to an entrée. I've now been three times, and the pepperoni pizza from the happy hour menu has made repeat appearances. Wood-fired, generous cheese, delicious pepperoni, and I always ask for a side of chili peppers to really seal the deal. Other happy hour standouts include the meatballs. Two massive, juicy meatballs smothered in marinara that clearly knows what it's doing. When you order food, you also get complimentary bread with creamy butter, which never fails to win my heart. I've had the Cavetelli bolognese, which I loved for its rich, creamy sauce and satisfying protein. The shrimp scampi was another win. Plenty of shrimp (a personal pet peeve when restaurants skimp), well seasoned, and so good I cleaned my plate, which is rare for me. Most recently, I tried the beef short rib with roasted carrots, broccolini, and parsnip purée. The meat was tender and moist, not dry in the slightest, and felt like a cozy, elevated comfort dish. As an Italian restaurant, dessert matters, so we ordered the tiramisu to share with coffee. It tasted genuinely homemade, not overly sweet, and was the perfect ending to the meal. Overall, I have no idea why it took me so long to try Amore, but it has officially become a regular spot for us. The happy hour is affordable and generous, and while entrées aren't discounted during that window, it's still very reasonable to grab a drink and an appetizer or pizza.
