Terry is the current owner of Vern's transmission and is the son of the original owner, Vern. How do I know so much about the history of this transmission shop you ask? That's because it is one of the friendliest, honest and welcoming shops I've ever had the pleasure of forking over my hard earned money to. I've been cheated a few times by bad or sneaky mechanics and this place has restored my faith that there still are honest people on this planet. I've taken my last 3 cars to Vern's and had everything from my clutch to my entire transmission replaced, including an entire rebuild of my electrical system on my Volvo station wagon. These guys know what they're doing and they get the job done quickly. They very clearly communicated all costs up front and let me know if there would be extra expenses. There are a lot of mechanic shops out there and it takes awhile to find a good place but this is a place you will stick with if you give them a try.

    Pay it forward!

A little skeptical was my left brain, he had called the night before and Terry told us to bring it on in.

I really, really wish I would have gotten a quote before coming in. I got on Yelp to search for…read moresomeone to do an oil change for my 2025 Ford Escape and received three responses right away. Two quotes were $100, so I stupidly assumed the third would be competitive at that price as well. Since they were the first to reach out, they got my business. I had been asked several times for the SAME vehicle information (blamed on a "bot" doing their initial reach out, of course). After getting there, the guy that took the appointment wasn't even there, and the tech didn't even know I had an appointment. He's feverishly making phone calls and getting voicemails. I should have walked, but gave it a few minutes. Daniel at the front desk does not ask me what kind of oil I use, but did say I was not being charged for labor. The bill comes and guess what? I was charged for labor! They used synthetic oil, which I would not have chosen since it costs three times the amount. Total cost? $202 for a dang oil change! Next time I will get a Groupon and go somewhere else!

After 2-3 hours of testing, the report says no leak is detected, and they "suspect" that "EVAP pump module has failed internally", so they need to replace my entire EVAP canister assembly with pump module =))), how absurd. And the whole thing cost $2k for a minor issue with code P0456. I called in and took my car home, while paying them $200 for diagnostic just to receive an unsure result. Midland Automotive ownership is not the same as it was a few short years ago. If you decide to go…read moreto Midland Automotive, I strongly suggest that you ask for a consultation without a fee for an estimate about your automobile's repair recommendations. If they are a legitimate business that is willing to provide a "free" estimate, broken down line item for line item, it might be well worth your while. Otherwise, save your pocketbook and your time and look further to find an automotive repair shop that will do that. Timing is also an issue. Time and money. Everyone wants to save time and money. Businesses are in the business of making money or they cannot stay in business. A legitimate and on the level business owner also acknowledges that without transparency, and fair marketing and pricing, they might have an individual's business one time but they will not receive an individual's repeat business. Some businesses play the numbers game and believe that if they can entice thousands of individual's willing to take their business to them at least once and pay them for an estimate, they will stay in business. Unfortunately this new model business practice of getting a customer in the door, if only one time, is becoming the norm.

I brought a car to Simmons today for an inspection before my daughter purchased it. The technician…read moreassured me they would include photos of the undercarriage, as I wasn't allowed in the shop. After a quick 15-minute inspection, they claimed the water pump needed replacement--even though the car has only 39K miles. They said it had leaked previously but wasn't leaking now. $500 to replace. They also recommended replacing the cabin filter for $112, even though it's a $10 part that takes about a minute to change with no tools. The oil change was priced at $91 for just four quarts of oil and a filter. When I received the inspection report, the promised undercarriage photos were missing. The technician claimed they "wouldn't post" and had been deleted--yet other photos were included. This wasn't a true pre-purchase safety inspection but rather an exaggerated upsell on repairs. I usually don't post reviews, but this experience needed to be shared.
