Called a couple of auto repair businesses; weeks to get into any of them. Called Midland Automotive; called Friday morning; made an appointment for this coming Monday for evaluation of problems caused by JiffyLube and ( hopefully, repairs ). What problems? JiffyLube on 72nd messed up the transmission with a mere transmission fluid change. The transmission now won't shift through the gears when starting / stopping. I have to manually shift. A few weeks ago JL replace the battery; now the engine struggles over a couple of minutes to start. "Convenience" at JL is expensive in terms of time & money. : / read more

They are unreliable and dishonest. I brought my car in for an engine check light and come to find out that the detected code is P0456 (small EVAP leak detected present). After 2-3 hours of testing, the report says no leak is detected, and they "suspect" that "EVAP pump module has failed internally", so they need to replace my entire EVAP canister assembly with pump module =))), how absurd. And the whole thing cost $2k for a minor issue with code P0456. I called in and took my car home, while paying them $200 for diagnostic just to receive an unsure result. If this is a service you would want for your car in 2026 where there are so many better out there, please go ahead. read more

Midland Automotive ownership is not the same as it was a few short years ago. If you decide to go to Midland Automotive, I strongly suggest that you ask for a consultation without a fee for an estimate about your automobile's repair recommendations. If they are a legitimate business that is willing to provide a "free" estimate, broken down line item for line item, it might be well worth your while. Otherwise, save your pocketbook and your time and look further to find an automotive repair shop that will do that. Timing is also an issue. Time and money. Everyone wants to save time and money. Businesses are in the business of making money or they cannot stay in business. A legitimate and on the level business owner also acknowledges that without transparency, and fair marketing and pricing, they might have an individual's business one time but they will not receive an individual's repeat business. Some businesses play the numbers game and believe that if they can entice thousands of individual's willing to take their business to them at least once and pay them for an estimate, they will stay in business. Unfortunately this new model business practice of getting a customer in the door, if only one time, is becoming the norm. read more

After some Googling to find a reputable small shop, I took my Jeep here when the check engine light came on and stayed on. After diagnosis, I was told that the valve cover gasket was bad, which caused oil to leak onto the oxygen sensor, which caused the sensor to fail, which threw the code. The estimate for this work was in line with what I had anticipated. They also, upon inspection, let me know that the AC compressor needed to be replaced sooner rather than later. I declined the AC work because I was working with limited funds, but the rest needed to be done. When doing the work I was originally quoted, they had difficulty with the job due to rusty bolts, and they needed the other valve cover gasket as well, which added about $500 more to the estimate. Not really much I can do about that, they've started the work and need to put the car back together. As much as I hate having to pay for car repairs, I feel like this shop is honest and does great work. There is a 2 year warranty on the work performed, which helps me feel slightly better about handing over 3/4 of my paycheck to get my car running well. I will be taking the car there for routine maintenance now, and have already started to make room in my budget so they can do the AC job as well. Good people, good work. read more

After searching on line about auto service I decided to try Midland Automotive as they seem to fit my standards (high). My 2018 Ram 1500 recently purchased for a good price because of poor entertainment screen (scratchy,) I wanted the truck gone thru for conditions. Midland has a comprehensive Inspection that is very good. Out of a possible 59 different items, brakes, fluids, engine, Suspension, etc. 57 were satisfactory. One was very minor (transfer case oil seepage, (no fluid loss) that just needs to be checked at each oil change. There was one item that needed to be replaced. I gave the OK to replace the dirty cabin air filter. Everything else was in great shape. This convinces me that this shop will not rip you off saying you need things repaired such as brakes, fluid changes when you don't. I also liked the cleanliness of the shop, & that their technicians are all ASE Certified. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE I brought my vehicle in to get fixed they replaced the starter said I had to use their part. It's was $1300. Said it was under warranty. They said they diagnosed it. Had to have it towed back in. They're saying it's not the starter. They didn't say there was any issues when I picked it up the first time. Not a word about anything else possibly going on. They didn't help with the tow back to their shop. Had it towed at 9am. At 2pm while I am at work they're saying that I have ten minutes to get it or they're going to have it impounded. I can't recommend Midland Automotive highly enough. I took my mom-in-law's 10-year-old SUV there recently. I thought the car needed both a routine lube & oil and a coolant flush. Although we proceeded with the lube & oil, the techs in the shop determined the coolant tested out fine and the flush was unnecessary. Integrity to say the least! I also pointed out a problem with one of the power windows that my mom-in-law has been unable to get repaired for years. They were able to quickly diagnose the issue and get a replacement part order. I recently took two vehicles to Midland: A 1998 Chevy Pick-up Truck and my mom's 2005 Subaru Outback. The truck needed to have the Oil Pan gasket replaced along with the tie rod. While testing the truck, there were a few other surprises that needed to be addressed...the truck has over 165,000 miles on it. Dave and his team did a great job getting everything completed and the engine will last another 100,000 miles...too bad my son totaled it three weeks later. :-( With regards to the Outback, my parents have had that car serviced by the dealer since they bought in 2005. On their last visit, they wanted over $5,000 to replace the head gasket, front axles and a few other items. I called Midland for a quote and an inspection comparing what Dave thought the car needed vs. what the dealership wanted. It was a no brainer. Dave came in and quoted almost HALF the cost of doing the same work and when he checked things out, several items the dealer said needed to be repaired were not needed. Final bill was a little over $3,000. I highly recommend Midland Automotive. It is nice to have found a trustworthy mechanic and even called back a couple of weeks later to check and see how things were going. 5 STARS!!! read more

I brought my 06 Camry to these folks for a couple little things I didn't have time for or the proper tool for. I wanted my serpentine belt replaced and my spark plugs checked because I had the car only a year and most of the service records but no mention of plug replacement. They installed the serpentine belt I purchased and brought for them to install and inspected my plugs and a quick overview. Telling me the plugs were in very good condition and also alerted me to the fact that I had a slight leak in my valve cover gasket and PCV hose. Charge me a reasonable rate for an honest evaluation and installation of the belt. I now know why these folks come highly rated and recommended why a lot of senior citizens and elderly people because it seems they have a rather uncommonly good work ethic. After 40 years of a career job I retired and didn't roadside assistance for a couple years and recommended these folks highly and their local area. And can only tell you that I have found 4 shops in Pierce County in my travels that I would trust my car to and these folks are one of those and none of those four are a car dealer. They charged me $451.00(including tow- back and forth to my house) just to look at my car and tell me it needs a battery and it overheats. I already knew that before I sent it in to be REPAIRED. After they charged me that, they told me it would cost more to look into it further to see if the problem is coming from the top or bottom of the engine. Then they told me because of the mileage it probably wouldn't be worth fixing. They could have told me that before they charged me to do NOTHING to my car. Bad Business! My co-worker referred me there. When I told him what they did he said he spent so much money there over the years...but he will NEVER refer anyone else there. I do NOT recommend this place!!! Great service!! I have been there a few times with 2 different vehicles. Each and everytime they have been extremely helpful. The first time my van broke down, I called AAA and they recommended Midland Automotive. Had it towed there and they were upfront and honest. They got the job done within a couple of days and made additional recommendations but weren't pushy like some places. Each experience I have had has been better than any other place I've been. Keep in mind that if you take your car there without an appointment, you shouldn't expect it to magically be fixed the same day. Very disappointed in the customer service and mechanical services. I used their towing service. My car wouldn't start, it had just died while driving. They had the car 5 days and did some testing according to the invoice. They never really stated what the problem was just theories stating they would need to tare the car down more and try different possible fixes. They were able to get the car started and I drove it a short time that day and it died again. After already paying them $502.15 I wasn't going to take it back to them to experiment. I filled out the survey they asked me to take... never heard from anyone about my experience with them. Absolutely THE BEST mechanics and customer service West of the Rockies. Dave and Bill are honest businessmen and always place the needs of their customers first. They provide accurate bids, including parts, labor and time allotment for each and every service and never perform or recommend unnecessary work. I have an older vehicle that was almost destroyed by Bucky's mechanics who were sloppy and ignored serious problems while doing short cut jobs, i.e., the clutch was failing and there were loud grinding noises coming from the engine when I picked it up the last time at a cost of $600. In frustration, I took my truck to Midland and they identified a number of issues that Bucky's had caused. Midland Automotive rebuilt the clutch, replaced the water pump and belts and it has been well worth the cost of quality repair - it has been running clean and like new for years. I bring it in for regular oil changes as well as our other car and both have been performing flawlessly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Midland Automotive. *Normal wear and tear on automobiles is an expected occurrence, so scheduled maintenance has enabled Midland to find and fix small problems before they become big issues. read more

My car started misfiring on I-5, we took it in and for a fee Midland Automotive found the issue, along with it they gave me a list of other things they found totaling close to $2,000.00. I was surprised because other than the misfiring the car drove wonderfully. I had the initial issue repaired and decided to work our way through the list, I explained what I could afford every two weeks and that truly was my limit. Got down to the ball joints, quoted $187.00 each side. I am not a mechanic so I trusted them when they said and I am copying this from their paper work, "Front lower left and right suspension ball joints are loose (the left is worse)". I received a call that they could not get the part off, while trying they sheared off the bolt, tried heat other issues. Essentially had to break this "loose" system to replace it, ordered parts (used) came in and wouldn't ya know it, they were in worse shape than mine, so now they decided to put my parts back on the car after sending them out to be refurbished. So this $187.00 a side job is now over $900.00 (way over my limit) and counting for loose ball joints they couldn't get off. Finally got my car back after 7 days and you CAN NOT tell any difference in the drive! It never did drive bad, or steer bad or handle bad, they found this on their list, I took their word for it. Perception is everything and my perception is something stinks. Of this $900.00 plus dollars well over $500.00 was labor, I paid for them to break it and then drink coffee and figure out how to fix it. If something good happens you tell maybe 10 people, if something bad happens you tell everyone, I now have my bad experience felt like I was ripped off by a mechanic story for life. read more
