I put the price in my artificial intelligence device and it said they were high and so I said where should I look and Cooper's came up they were less expensive. I recently visited this shop for an oil change and to have my brake pads checked due to a strange noise. The next day, I received a call informing me that my brake pads needed replacement - with an initial quote of $1,600. For a Toyota Corolla, that seemed excessive. I told them as much, and suddenly they dropped the price down to $1,000. A $600 discount? That raised red flags - why was I quoted so high in the first place? It felt like they were trying to overcharge me until I pushed back. One of the reps even said, "You wanna see how I did it? How I gave you a discount?" Like... no thanks. You're making it look like you're doing me a favor when you just tried to overcharge me in the first place. When I came in to pick up my car, I interacted with two front desk reps--J. Harren and another sales rep. They both looked surprised and disappointed that I wasn't going through with the service. When I mentioned I found another place (Greg's Auto), the second guy mockingly laughed, which felt really unprofessional. J. Harren then said Greg's was one of their "sister companies"--which didn't matter to me at all. They were more honest and upfront than these two. When I didn't want to share which Greg's location I went to, J. Harren said, "Oh, you don't have to say--I can just pull it up from my system." That came off passive-aggressive and unnecessary. While my experience wasn't extreme, the dishonesty and unprofessional behavior from these two front desk guys were enough to make me lose trust in this business. I have been going to Coopers for years. We reliably got good, honest car maintenance and repair at a cost lower than the dealership. Recently they have joined a car repair shop marketing association, which has coached them on improving their "bottom line". They fill my mail box with discount coupons, and dollars-off deals on certain services. They have gone to the grocery-store marketing model. The basic oil change is their "loss leader" to get customers in the door. Needed repairs are now priced at "what-the-traffic-will-bear" dealership levels, then you search the flyers to see if there is a discount. I don't mind playing the grocery store pricing game when deciding on ground beef for a casserole, but not for something like car repair. I much preferred the original Coopers, rather than the "new, improved" marketing model that causes customer to feel they are being manipulated. read more

Coopers has consistently been honest and never pushed services outside of my price range. Most recently, I brought in an older '80s diesel Mercedes that no one else was willing to work on. I use to love this shop but after the experience of lack of communication and lack of service to make something right or help fix the issue they provide silence to fix the issue. I took my vehicle in on a Saturday did not get an update until Monday after I called to ask for an update. They gave an estimate of cost of work, asked to verify if it was actually the radiator after replacing the radiator cap. They provided feedback that it was not the radiator but the oil cooler. Less that a week later I have a cracked radiator that is still leaking coolant, which was the first reason I scheduled the appointment to find the issue. read more

We've taken my Subaru Outback and my dad's Chevy Silverado here for repairs and have never been disappointed. They fixed my dad's truck both times for under what was originally quoted (an instrument panel issue and a turn signal). I took my Outback in to see if my AC was acting up (it decided not to kick on one day). They couldn't quite figure out the problem-but I appreciate them being honest about it, and not charging me for parts I didn't need to replace just to make a quick buck. Everyone I spoke to was very friendly and I didn't feel like I was getting the run around like I usually feel at the dealership. I went to Coopers for an oil change before a big trip. I explained that I am a single mom with limited income and that I just needed to make sure my car was ok before a big trip. They tried to tell me that over $4000 of repair were urgent and that I would be at high risk to not do them. They wanted to put me in debt to do these repairs, even after explaining to them that I was struggling to even make enough money to pay rent. Then I went to Roopair Specialists in Tacoma, and the shop took a look at my car for free. They told me that my car was perfectly fine and that the report from Coopers was full of bologne. Took my car in for a rattle sound in my struts and diagnostic of an electrical component. They determined the rattle was my lower control arm to which i authorized the work. The electrical component needed some time which they informed me of and I also authorized but they failed to mention that it was a dealer provided part and they would have to up charge me on the part until the work was complete. I paid them $1500 My car did not lose the rattle, in fact, it gained a whole new noise. A creak every time my suspension moved up and down that was very noticeable. I took it back to have one of their technicians hear these noises (his attitude was dismissive and offended) They determined nothing to be wrong and then tried to charge me again for my request to correct their mistake. Got a second opinion and it was my top mounts that needed replacement. They're just in it for a quick buck. Never coming here again and I would advise you do the same. read more

This is the WORST, most DISHONEST and INCOMPETENT repair shop I have EVER been to in my life. And I have been to a LOT of repair shops. After I finally figured out that they were ripping me off on repairs, I brought another vehicle in that had NOTHING wrong with it other than an intentional problem that I created. I simply disconnected one of the spark plug wires from a spark plug on one of the cylinders (which created a check engine light), took it to them (just to see if I was 100% sure that they were a dishonest shop) and they (after an almost $200 diagnostic fee) told be that I needed almost $4000 worth of repairs to correct the problem. The $200 that I spent for no reason (just to prove to myself that they were dishonest) was well worth it. I hope this info helps other people as well. If you still do business with this place, then you get what you deserve. You have been warned! read more

Been coming to coopers auto for years now, it was a good family owned shop especially with Kevin running things he's a good guy. Lately now though it seems like everytime I go there I get quoted some ridiculous amount. A $600 fix quote for a part that only costs $120 is beyond ridiculous. I went to my dealership and I spent $240 and they washed my car and rotated my tires. Like I said Kevin is a great guy he's always been a stand up guy but when he is not around it seems like customers are getting taken advantage of. read more

I had a rare classic vehicle worked on here. I told them they DO NOT have permission to drive it on the road. None of the work performed would warrant the need to test drive the vehicle. Well they drove it anyway against my specific direction. Then they over charged me for the work. When I called them out on it they offered in store credit instead of a proper refund. Not happy I left. A few months later wanting to settle on my (MONEY OWED ME) I came back with a utility trailer to do bearing work and packing. I had also found a mailer coupon by them for something like fifty bucks. When it was time to pick up the trailer they said I couldnt use the coupon and my credit ( money owed me) both, it had to be one or the other. Strike 2. Hi! I had my oil changed in March for my first experience with Coopers, it is more conveniently located than the Audi dealership and I was hoping maybe a little cheaper! Not the case, oh well still more convenient right??! Well, shortly after having my oil changed my oil level light came on, I took it in and was told "level is fine, we'll have to run a full diagnostic" well, I called Audi to check and they suggested just adding a little oil as the notice was for within 1 qt of tolerance. Coopers obliged and added oil and the problem seemed to be resolved. That same day the light and notification came on again. I was leaving for vacation the next day and didn't have time to look into it. When I got home from vacation I took a closer look and upon inspection, Coopers had installed the gasket in the wrong order so it was loosely sitting on top of the oil cap instead of under it like designed. Once this was remedied the light/notice was gone. I understand mistakes happen but it's unbelievable that it wasn't caught the 2nd or 3rd time I was in to have it checked. Something so simple was missed and potentially could have cost me much more in "diagnostic" and "bad sensors" as they suggested it might have been. read more

After Cooper's Auto Repair "Specialists" attempted to extort over $4000.00 for unnecessary repairs (determined by Nissan of Puyallup the next day) from an elderly female friend of mine, in the middle of a snowstorm, in the middle of the pandemic, I wrote about 25 reviews explaining the situation on every website I could find. Mr. Kevin Cooper called over a week later to discuss the review because he, "takes these things seriously". I'm pretty sure he didn't know there are so many more being viewed daily by prospective customers. He talked with my friend by telephone and after a short conversation simply justified the actions of Cooper's attempted deception at listing all "suggested repairs" even though none of them were responsible for the car not starting. The car simply wouldn't start and had been towed to Cooper's to get it running again. They gave a quote for all recommended maintenance for the vehicle at its present mileage. Noticing that a wheel alignment was on the quote my friend felt unsure had the car towed to Nissan for a second opinion. They called within an hour of receiving the car and said that it started fine and had probably experienced a vapor lock. I suspect that the car started for Cooper's also but that they wanted their blood money from a senior citizen in dire need... in addition to the cost of the digital "inspection" performed in a few seconds. Think twice before using Cooper's Auto Repair Specialists for any service even if you are stranded in the middle of a power outage, in the middle of a snowstorm, in the middle of a plague... they obviously have no scruples about being dishonest with their customers and are lacking any shred of integrity. I own a small construction company so I have a small fleet and a couple of personal rigs. You can't have as many vehicles as I do and not experience some unexpected and routine maintenance visits to your local mechanic. My experience with Coopers has been great thus far. A side note my office manager (female) usually sets up our appointments and coordinates drop offs and pick ups. They treat her the same way they treat me, honest, informative and friendly. They are great communicators, seem to be up with the latest car tech and charge fair prices. I'm not related to anybody at this place nor have they given me any money! Ha in fact I pay them. I set up a time to have my van taken to this shop so I could try them out as a local option since I just moved to the area recently. They did a decent job of giving the car a once over and found some things that were likely due for service. They didn't however provide a clear and precise diagnosis for what I brought the van in for. They just said "it should be rebuilt". That didn't really build confidence in their knowledge of that specific part of the van. The real issue is that their quoted pricing was brutally high. A transmission service (fluids and a filter) was priced at $650. For reference, that is a max of $179 elsewhere. Some front end work was quoted at over $500 for maybe $200 worth of work. Honestly, at home it would have been maybe an hour of time and $60 in parts. Their quote on the main van issue was more than double the cost of the next closest quote. I got 3 more quotes from local shops. Their quote was over $2000 higher for that service alone. I ended up paying out of pocket to have the van towed to a different place to get work done. I would warn or less mechanical gals or guys to be very cautious when dealing with this shop. The pricing is way high and I would worry about them pushing it onto less savy people. read more

Don't come here. 90$ inspection fee, 7 hours later and they haven't finished the inspection. Was told to leave the car overnight or come back in the morning. We need our only car so took it home to find the button on the side to adjust the seat was broken and unable to be used. My husband could barely reach the gas pedal. Brought it back in the am and hours later was diagnosed with almost 4000$ worth of problems. For example: one of the problems will only take an hour long to fix, is charged As a 700$ labor job. Yeah, right. They replaced the broken part. We did not have the time to sit around carless for almost two days in a row. Also, the car stank of dirty men and cigarettes. Just wanted front brakes fixed. I buy and sell cars for a living 25 years buy in several areas and use several repair shops in Anaheim and here in San Francisco. These guys Quoted me over $2000 for the brake job I have never paid such a price Anywhere!! Even in San Francisco. Told them I could change the engine for that!! , its more than double 2 prices I got . Anaheim Auto repair said it should be no more than $800 and another shop in Tacoma told me About $700.(taking it Their now) They are insisting on charging me $89. Manager said fee was in the paper I signed but he also He said No charge for looking at the car which I did not need as I knew other most everything about truck minor issues already!! I have never anywhere been charged like this even from the dealers who hook can up to their specialized computer diagnostic systems which they pay a lot for the data updates Usually the only way to get some specific car information ,like computer problems. I would highly recommend not taking your vehicles to Coopers. unless you want to pay high prices,,then just go to the dealer its probably going to be less. Coopers Said they also use OEM parts.These are not always the best many aftermarket parts can be much better performance and Quality. Just did my wife's mini cooper S all front and back brakes and rotors and sensors $400 installed with much better than OEM parts.(note manager told me he was everything on phone (SO!! ) when I said it was not common to charge for looking at the brakes he said he was recording everything He said could rebutted with recording every thing I said on yelp so would not do any good to post !! strange) Do your self a favor and Stay away far far away!!!! read more

I should have known better than to return after spending $5000 on a Chevy Blazer with Coopers and still got a blown engine, but no one is perfect so I gave them another try with my 1993 Ford Ranger that would not stay running. They charged $170 for diagnostics and I had a limit of $500 to spend so I decided OK. Then they called and said they could find the problem and needed to connect it another diagnostic for an additional $200 which now I am almost at my limit. They called again and said they still could not find the problem. I decided enough is enough. When picking up my truck to tow away the best I got was the mechanic spent 5 hours diagnosing the problem. I thought to my self after spending almost $400 they should have spend as many hours as it would take to find the problem. Now I found a mechanic who found the problem and fixed it for half the cost I spent at Coopers Additional Information - Please Read After talking with Kevin and telling him the other mechanic fixed the problem for less than I paid for diagnostic at Coopers, Kevin offered me a full refund. Coopers may not be able to fix every problem, but they definitely take care of their customers. I would definitely recommend Coopers to any one who has a newer vehicle that is looking for an honest mechanic. Thank You Kevin for your customer service and cooperation. Having taken it in to BMW Northwest to have the repairs done, I left BMW Northwest with the issues not being taken care of and a huge deficit in my bank account. Honest mechanic, highway robbery prices. This place is charging as much as a dealership to work on your car. Keep in mind as well they charge a 100 dollar diagnostic fee just to find out the problem. Wasnt told there would be a diagonstic fee when I called in but at the same time its my fault for assuming there wouldnt be.I have discovered honest mechanics that don't need to charge a diagnostic fee. They tell you what the problem is and if there prices are fair you would never turn them down not to do the work. I called a few places to get estimates on the work they did, got offers that were almost 400 dollars cheaper. Do your research first. I have learned the hard way. They do good work but there are many out there who do just as good of work without highway robbery prices. read more
