I'm telling you right now, these people are desperate thieves. For every fake positive review about honesty and trust, there are real ones like mine. They had my car overnight, and it had accumulated an additional hundred miles and had significantly less gas in the tank. They tried to convince me that I needed a new clutch/transmission for 3k. A good friend referred this place to us when she heard that we had transmission issues. After waiting for about a week and a half for an appointment. We got the vehicle there they called us with an update the next day to tell us great news that the vehicle was just low on oil. It's wonderful to have an honest mechanic and I will be reaching out to this shop again, because they could have easily charged us for parts and services not needed. Went to AAMCO in Puyallup twice. They did not even drive my vehicle to ascertain the problem. They replaced spark plugs and coils and the problem was not resolved. I am pretty sure they scratched the paint while there. I told ABC Transmission in Tacoma the same thing as to what was happening and they knew right away that the belt was slipping and I needed a new transmission. As part of the cost they want me to bring the vehicle back in 500 miles to check and make sure everything is still good. Very pleased read more

Had a rear-end serviced by these guys 8 years ago, just got the 1954 truck running and it's howling, per the Dino guy it was the rear end. you can hear it. Made an appt 2 1/2 months ago, trailered it in and they couldn't get to it for another two weeks. Why have an appt if you can't get to my vehicle. I was quoted $2k estimate, on top of what I already paid in the beginning. I called today to say I was picking up the truck, it took them 20 minutes to find it and that work hadn't started on it yet, which was good because they were going to charge me if it had. I understand 8 year is a long time, but the truck has been driven a 8 tenths of a mile to test it out. I am taking my truck elsewhere. Thankfully it's not a daily driver. read more

I was referred to ABC by two different and very trusted mechanics to replace the clutch in my family car. Not only did they keep the vehicle for two weeks beyond what they initially promised, but I had to call every few days to ask for a status update because they were completely uncommunicative. As this was our family's vehicle, it was a massive inconvenience and needlessly stressful. When I finally picked it up, I discovered that they had neglected to reattach the splash guard under the car so that it was dragging on the ground. I had to bring it back to have it secured. Then, a few days later, the car wouldn't go into first gear without forcing, and when I returned it, they told me that they had done an improper hydraulic installation and would need to replace the master cylinder. They informed me that it would take an additional week or two to replace it. It was only after I lost my temper in the shop (something I *never* do) that they finally offered to give me a loaner car. Again, while they had the vehicle, I got no regular updates regarding timing. Overall, this was an awful and unacceptable experience. I highly suggest finding a different transmission mechanic. read more

Do not go here if you would like to save your vehicle. I had a mechanic friend diagnose my jeep for a transmission going out. took it here in 2023 they had it for WEEKS. no updates always having to call them and they always are clueless. Paid $5,652 for a new transmission for it to have another problem a couple months later. took it back they replaced my cooling housing was Told it was a piece in the transmission. Sunday I had a friend change my oil who was concerned I had transmission fluid all under my car with multiple cords hanging down. Thankfully he was able to re attach them but said it was a part of the cooling housing ABC had fixed previously. I take it back to abc after a friend diagnosed it within 2 minutes what The new problem is. It took abc over 24 hours to diagnose exactly what I told them and they are unable to fix it for free originally I'd be charged $900+ but said they'd charge $589. Mind you my warranty just expired 3 WEEKS AGO for the transmission. Please do not take your car here the worst decision I've ever made. In two years I would've paid them over $6,000 for something ONLY they have worked on. read more

A couple of months ago, my transmission gave up on me. My mechanic suggested ABC Transmission so I took it over for an estimate. They came highly recommended and after doing some homework, I decided they were reasonable and had them do the work. My car purrs like a kitten now and it was a much better choice than trying to replace the car in the current market. They found an issue while giving it its 500-mile check and took care of it right then and there instead of making me come back. Michael was fantastic; he taught me a lot about how to properly take care of my transmission (and it's not expensive!) He also looked after me and made sure to do what he could to alleviate my concerns. Great shop for anyone, particularly if you really need to be able to trust your mechanic because you're not a car person. 10 stars!!!! read more

Previously had service here and after 2 take-backs, ended up somewhere else. At one point, had the mechanic at ABC yelling at my maintenance mechanic that he was wrong. (later proven ABC was wrong, btw). They're out the for the buck, regardless of customer service or integrity. My mechanic now (new manager) recommended ABC again and I asked him if he wanted to lose me as a customer. Two good experiences. Brought in my SUV to diagnose transmission problems. They gave me the complementary diagnosis and options to fix the next day, and made the completed the fix the day afterwards. Brought in my minivan for a transmission fluid change. After the change, the transmission was leaking. ABC Transmission tried to fix 3 more times afterwards, but the leak persisted. Eventually Sam suggested replacing the pan, and finally the leak was fixed. With each fix, they asked me to come back afterwards to make sure there is no leak. ABC Transmission has been extremely busy the past couple months, so you may have to drop the car off a few days to get in the queue. Thanks to Sam and Dan at the front desk for prompt communication, and Kyle for the excellent work on my cars! read more

Went there with problems with my Honda Van. The entire tranny was burnt up. They were honest and professional throughout the entire process. Walked me through options and pros/cons. Clear upfront pricing and reliable service techs. I was called and updated at least twice. It was done 2 days ahead of schedule. My tranny was shot and I had taken to 3 diff shops for pricing. ABC was on par with 2 and drastically better than 1. What sold me was the GREAT warranty offered. I also got $150 off coupon. All in all I would go again and recommend (hope I never have to) to anyone with transmission problems. read more

Update: a month after ABC replaced my transmission, I took the car to another shop to have them investigate a weird creaking sound that the car was making. It turns out that ABC left four extremely loose bolts in the engine compartment. Thank God my transmission didn't literally fall out while I was driving. The service I got was great, but clearly their techs need to me more careful. If you go to ABC, make them double check any strange noises immediately. Update to the update: ABC transmission saw this review and called me today to let me know that they would be retraining their techs about these bolts, and would make sure that the tech who worked on my car had the knowledge needed to work safely on other cars. I really appreciate this business - it takes guts to own a mistake. Even considering the lost bolts in my car, I would still recommend ABC transmission for any relevant repairs. First of all, I called about a month ago to make my appointment and they told me that the day I chose I could come in at 10! So I came to drop it off by 9:45 so there was no rush or late. When I walk into the store I'm proceeded with dirty looks, I'm not sure if it's because I'm a woman alone coming to a car shop, but they looked at me and didn't even say hello the two men in the front continued their conversation, I had to literally say hello? And he just walks over to his computer, doesn't say anything. I say I have an appointment and he's like hmm k. And then he tells me that their running slow today and could take longer, I told him that I have an appointment today at 2! Will it be done before then he's like hmm it should be. So when I was asking him how long he thinks and he's just like I don't know. They do not care about how long they make you wait, and do not care about your time or service. read more

We had 6 warning lights flashing on our 2014 Subaru and we're referred here by our normal auto shop. Apparently Subaru CVTs aren't super reliable and needed a small repair on the transmission (still significant!). We don't trust the dealer after being repeatedly lied to, and ABC's prices were consistent with what we found online. The guys there are great!!!! I had an issue with the transmission that was intermittent and would not act up when I brought it in. They were so patient and kept looking at it again and again. It finally acted up for them, and they were able to pinpoint the problem and get it fixed! They honored their warranty after almost two years without question! The couple of times I've had to visit ABC, they never tell me what I want to hear, which is "no biggie - give us 5 minutes and you're outta here". What they usually tell me is: "the truck has 230k on it... things wear out. See you in a few days" The team here has always been honest and reasonably priced for a transmission and then rear end rebuild. These are the folks that the general repair shops outsource their rebuilds to, so they know what they're doing. Highly recommend! read more

I brought my 02 Jeep Wrangler in for a small Oil leak that I noticed in my driveway and figured that it must have been time for a trans service and they could change the gasket and filter. The female mechanic called me with new if they found a leak in the transfer case and so I said just fix it and after a few more days they called again to tell me it was ready and everything worked out fine. The cost was going to be 600.00+ tax. Ok so I paid and picked the jeep up only to get home and have a bigger leak then when I brought it in. I called and informed them of what was going on and so once again the female spoke with me. She then informed me that she had explained to me that it was a older jeep and they might have to pull the jeep and reseal the whole thing if this time it doesn't work and they would have to keep it for a free more days. (she never said anything about the age or anything else. The jeep only had 83,000 on it as well.) after I brought it back and they kept it for close to a week. the called and said I could come pick it up again for the 2nd time and again the leak was worse! So now I feel I need to just fix the thing myself. I pulled the skid plate and noticed all the silicone that had been used around the pan I then knew what I was deal with. I pulled the pan and brought a gasket from Tacoma Dodge. And threw the cheap gasket they used in the trash. installed a new filter and upper grade fluid. Test drove and guess what?! No more leak so you know what?! I was ripped off and lied to. These guys are very shady and I would never recommend a shotty shop as such. I've been a mechanic for the city of Seattle for almost 30 yrs now but getting old and beat up so I was just going to farm this simple job out but I learned a very valuable lesson 600.00 dollars worth. it is better to learn from me then to pay a premium price to learn for yourself. When I developed transmission problems, my local mechanic sent my transmission to ABC Transmission Service of Tacoma, WA for a rebuild. At first, their rebuild was OK but problems started to develop and only got worse over a two year period. I had to take it back three times for warranty repair. The transmission would routinely slip between 2nd and 3rd gear and I would lose power. The engine would race but the transmission would not engage. I would have to manually put it into 2nd gear and drive at 25mph with a lot of unhappy drivers stacking up behind me. When the transmission would finally engage it would slam into gear with an alarming noise. First they replaced a solenoid. Same problems continued. The second time I took it in they replaced two sensors and charged me $380! That didn't fix the problem either. The third time I took it back they kept it for a week and told me, "We don't think it's the transmission." At that point I took it to a well-regarded local transmission shop. I asked the lead mechanic to do a test drive and check the engine, computer and anything else that could cause the problems I was experiencing. He checked the engine and computer and said that they were OK. After his test drive he confirmed my experience of slipping and slamming into gear with a loud noise. He also reported that sometimes the transmission starts out in 2nd gear instead of first. His summary, "You definitely have transmission problems, but I won't know what's going on until I get into it." Two days later he called me and said, "Do you know that the previous shop put a rebuilt valve body into your transmission instead of a new one?" I didn't know what he was even talking about. He explained, "The valve body is like the central processing unit of a transmission. The valve body governs all the shifting. Rebuilt valve bodies are cheaper and often problematic. I always use factory new valve bodies in my transmission rebuilds and my customers never have problems. Do you want me to order you a new Ford valve body and redo this job with all new parts?" I authorized him to rebuild my transmission for a second time. I checked my original paperwork from ABC Transmission Service and saw that they had indeed installed a TRANSGO 4R100-HD2 Tugger rebuilt valve body instead of a new Ford valve body. When I picked up my vehicle it ran like new. Shifting was clean, firm and predictable. I was giddy at how perfectly it was running. I have waited over a year with my 2nd transmission rebuild with a proper factory new Ford valve body before I decided to write this review on Yelp. I wanted to make sure that the 2nd rebuild was a durable repair and that the rebuilt valve body was actually the true source of the problem. I am happy to report that my transmission is still running perfectly and reliably in hot and cold weather, just like a new vehicle. I ended up having to pay out more than double, over $4,500 for what should have been a $2,000 repair investment. The staff at ABC Transmission Service were all nice friendly people, ready to help and very responsive, but I will not be taking any future transmission repairs to their shop. read more

I haven't even gotten my baby looked at yet by ABC, but I just wanted to start my review and say how impressed I was with the guy I spoke to on the phone today. He was very professional, super nice, and asked me when a good time was for me to bring my girl in to be diagnosed. Every other transmission shop I have dealt with thus far have been rude and acted like I was inconveniencing them. So unfortunately, I have put off having my girl diagnosed and repaired until I found a shop I felt comfortable with. I know what's going on with my car and know a lot about my car and that turned a lot of shops off when they tried to screw me over. Here's hoping that ABC's customer service holds up to my now high standards of them when I bring my baby in tomorrow! Will update my review after my car is taken care of. Update: took my girl in and she needed a new solenoid pack. They were super honest and again, incredibly nice! They never once tried to charge for BS work and knew immediately what was wrong as the codes pointed to solenoids. They wanted to check my trans pan in the morning after I had her diagnosed to make sure there were no metal chunks or nasty fluid in it. He said that if there was we were looking at a rebuild and costs up to $3,000. He had said everything looked great and it was definitely the solenoids so we went ahead with the repair. Do you know how many mechanics would've been dishonest about this and charged for unnecessary repairs just to make $$? I am extremely pleased with this shop and will be going back if needed. read more

Where do I start? I dropped my vehicle to ABC transmission. I had to call and get updates regarding my vehicle. They informed me that my transmission needed to be replaced and quoted me $2500-$3,000. Because of their unprofessionalism displayed I wanted a second opinion. I took my vehicle to another shop. After a couple of hours they saw that my transmission did not need to be replace and it just needed transmission fluid. Which was very low.
