Always an interesting time here. Local neighborhood bar with cheap strong drinks. Occasionally they have live music which, when they do, is usually unbelievably good! Staff are really friendly here as well. Late night can get a little sketchy around here so you have to be a little mindful of your surroundings. It is not uncommon for the police to show up as their is usually some questionable activities happening outside, but generally I feel completely safe here. During the warmer times they have a nice outdoors back area. Definitely recommend a visit here to get a feel for a real nitty gritty local New Orleans local bar scene. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars for the ambience, the drink prices, and the overall badass-ness. This was a great find while on my first trip to Nola from Chicago! I'd been walking around nearby in the Garden District with my boyfriend, doing some touristy things, and we realized we wanted to stop and have a drink. He looked up bars nearby on Yelp and found this place based on the photos, and I'm extremely glad he did. Right when we stepped through the door, we noticed the cool red lighting, mannequins, and bar that was in slight disarray, and we fell in love. The bartender that night was strangely the same bartender we had at another bar up in the Marigny a few nights prior, and we were glad to see her. Her name was Anna, which I'll never forget since that's my name! We each sat at the bar where some locals sat, and we ordered a few PBRs, because why not. Chatting with others at the bar and with Anna is how we learned that the other people in there were locals. One guy even bought everyone inside a shot, since it was his birthday. Verret's was a seriously chill option outside of the classic tourist areas nearby, and we truly are grateful to have found it. read more

Dark. Friendly. Low Key. It's where the locals go! They had a screen up where some of the patrons were playing video games. A piano on the side. I sat in their lounge. It was comfortable. I accidentally took a nap. It was too cozy in here. My friends ordered some drinks and they also took some to go and more walking we did in New Orleans. An absolute gem. The best ambiance of any neighborhood bar that I've been to in the city. There's 50s red vinyl everywhere. The lighting is perfect. I will also vouch for the Sunday night bartender. My friends and I enjoyed the place so much that we debated withholding reviews, so we could keep the place to ourselves. This bar has some good seating and a nice cushioned bar so you can't bang your knees and hurt yourself due to any drinking accidents. The bartender that served me was one I recognized as he used to used to work at Snake and Jake's so that was a bonus. They have a decent number of TVs so that makes this a good spot to watch sports. This is one of those classic New Orleans dive bars that everyone needs to experience. I saw a band callee Damaged Goods, and they where fantastic. White Boy BBQ was selling food in the back, and it was outstanding. Pulled pork sandwich, Chicken pot pie sandwich, and these loaded potatoes, with pulled pork and bacon. They come to Verrets often, and I promise you its worth the trip. Getting back to the venue, the bar is padded, and red and has such a funky unque look to it. Coming to this bar was by far one of the best experiences during our trip to New Orleans. The environment is friendly, with a tiny but cozy bar and a big patio on the back.
