I came here every week as a kid in the 00s and always thought it was truly amazing pizza. I grew up and moved off around the country always having "the best pizza around" from Brooklyn, CT, down south, Los Angeles (a pizza haven now), abroad-- great pizza but in my head nothing hit like this place once did. After 15 years I finally made it back to the area to show my wife where I grew up and HAD to stop in after seeing it was still open-- to see if it held up as well as it did in my memory or if it was just childhood nostalgia. This pizza is seriously great and held up from what I had in memory. The simplicity of old school ingredients make it feel light but packs flavor-- and the crust takes this pie to a new level. Light, but a strong dough AND crispy. Idk how he's held that taste and crust consistency over such a long period of time but I think it proves this man is an artist. Bare-bones, no frills, great slices. This is a charming little 49 year old business run by the same family in West Milford for its entire existence. They don't pretend to be anything fancier than they are (they're as un-fancy as a place can get), nor do they put on any airs when all you want is a slice and a Snapple. A busy man - most likely the owner - will take your order in between the conversation he's having with the other person behind the counter, and there are old, now defunct, coin-operated bubble gum machines up against the wall, and a small menu with very likely little variation from the menu that started it all for them in the mid-70's is lit up with press-letters in the standard see-through red you grew up seeing in pizza places as a kid. The place is freaking perfect. When I'm back near West Milford High school, I will definitely be dropping in again for a slice read more

I'm hoping last night was just a bad night, but it was the worst pizza I'd ever had in NJ! Vesuvio's and I go way back to my childhood and there was no other pizza like it. When I called to order, it took a long time to answer the phone. Once they picked up, I ordered a "large mushroom pie, well done please", then gave my name. He asked me twice to repeat the order. He said "20 minutes". I got there 10 minutes early, so I sat in my car and made a phone call, watching people go in and out the entire time. After 10 minutes, I walked into not one familiar face behind the counter and there were at least four back there. I waited for the line to diminish then gave my name, mushroom pie, well done. He says 1/2 mushroom? I said "whole mushroom". He insisted that "the person who called it in said 1/2 mushroom". I said "I called it in and said, large mushroom pie well done". He kept insisting I said 1/2! Whatever! Just give me the pizza please. He says it's in the oven and we can make it whole mushroom pie. I said "please leave it as it is. It's fine". Going back n forth with that a few times. As I'm standing there waiting, two people were sitting at tables waiting for their order and two more people walked in to pick up their orders. One man sitting got up and asked if his 1/2 meatball pie was ready yet. The man behind the counter says "you mean whole meatball?" The man says "no, 1/2 meatball!" I said to him "they must have gotten my whole mushroom mixed up with your 1/2 meatball". He replies "I've been waiting 50 minutes!" He left with his pizza without saying a word. Another man finally brought my pizza out after about 10 minutes. When I got home and opened the box, it was a mess! Cheese and mushrooms everywhere! I picked up a slice and it was so thin, it flopped! Way too thin in the center and thick on the outside. Extremely disappointed. I'm hoping this is a one time occurrence and that Vesuvio's didn't sell their business! read more

Have passed this place many times and thought "what the heck do they have to offer?" Never thought about stopping to actually find out but decided that lunch today would be a meatball hogie with hot red peppers and Pecorino Romano on top. Only one word left to say "wonderful." Very cordial owner/chef and pizza chef both very accommodating. It was a perfect lunch and the tastiest meatballs I've ever had. Vesuvio's is sparkling clean inside and the aroma wafting from the kitchen tells me all I have to know. This is authentic Italian food, go and enjoy some as much as I did. read more

Each week, we venture out and try our favorite pizzas - the Margarita, the Grandpa and the Grandma. Although Vesuvio's in West Milford did not have these on their menu, we decided to give them a try, anyway. We ordered a large regular pie a large pepperoni pie. Upon opening the box, the pie wasn't over or undercooked - cooked perfectly. Upon the first bite.. here's what we loved: the crust. Perfect. Crispy but not crunchy with a soft center. The mozzarella was cooked over the sauce evenly. Of course, we have been trying so many margarita style pies that we almost forgot what a regular old fashioned pie tasted like. Vesuvio's did a fantastic job in reminding us. We were hoping for a bit more flavor in their sauce but still a worthy pie to try. The pepperoni pie was the same; very greasy from the pepperoni, of course, but it still maintained the crispy crust. Vesuvio's.. I think its time for you to put a Margarita pie on that menu! Mediocre pizza with attitude. I have been going here since I was a little kid... at least it is where my parent's would get pizza from. I was never happy with it, and still am not today. For a while, they were really the only choice if you lived in that area of town. Now that there is more competition, they have not adapted. Even when older (and recently), when picking up a pie for my parents I rarely got a smile, a thank you, etc. I got a pizza that was not consistent (burned bottom... yuck) anytime I went there. Ordered from here the other night while helping friends settle into their new home. We ordered a large cheese pie, chicken parmigiana meal and an order of penne vodka with garlic bread. The pizza was your average plain pie nothing special, the chicken parmigiana was cut up into little pieces and served with spaghetti. The penne vodka was interesting.. didn't really taste like vodka sauce I'm used to (pink sauce) this sauce was more red in color... over all it wasn't too bad. The garlic bread was just ok also. Wow!!! Great food and good prices!!! I was absolutely amazed when they asked me what kind of bread I wanted my chicken parmigiana sandwich on. They offered three different styles, including garlic bread! Absolute genius!!! All of their sandwiches can come on garlic bread. Never thought of doing that and I can't believe more restaurants don't do it. The restaurant itself is small and has limited seating, but the menu is great. My wife had a chicken caeser salad and said it was great. Definitely worth another stop here!!! read more
