I have been going to this vet for 20 years but recently something has changed. The staff has 0 compassion and is inefficient. The vet himself seems overwhelmed and quick to make a judgement. To make a long story short he diagnosed my pet with one thing (pretty much a death sentence) and never checked more than that. After taking him home I was told to call immediately if he stopped eating because he would have to be hospitalized which I did. After 3 calls I did not receive a call back. I left a message that he was vomiting blood still no call back. I went to another vet THANK GOD. He had pancreatitis was treated and is doing well. I would not take another beloved pet here even if they paid me. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with Dr. Gary Johnson was appalling. I brought in an elderly, blind, and deaf dog who had clearly been abandoned and severely neglected -- his nails were so overgrown he could hardly walk. I expected he would receive a compassionate evaluation and, if appropriate, humane euthanasia. Instead, Dr. Johnson barely looked at the dog, appeared more concerned about catching fleas than providing care, and dismissed the situation entirely. Rather than offering empathy or solutions, he lectured me that I should take the dog home and try to find the owner -- an absurd suggestion given the dog's obvious condition. The lack of compassion and professionalism was shocking. In my opinion, Dr. Johnson should not be practicing veterinary medicine. I strongly advise others to seek care elsewhere. I requested that Dr. Ronald Greshake the owner of Vet-I-Care Animal Hospital contact me but I never heard from him. read more

I'm only giving this practice a one star, bcuz of the group of techs and front desk agents there. My encounter with Dr Johnson was the worst ever. All he did was lecture me on how I as an owner should know to put my baby down due to diabetes, he did not give me any helpful info until his own staff actually said let's do one thing a time, the dog is 14 yrs old. Cause Al he wanted to was to write exorbitant estimates and made sure I understood in a very mean way I could not afford to take care of my now diabetic dog. I wasted three days and money at this clinic bcuz this man would only give me info based on what I paid. He behaved like an informant who in order to provide the information u need, u need to keep giving him money.. the worst experience of my life. The most uncompassionate man I have ever met. I hope to never set foot in that place ever again. He let my baby suffer for three days. Plz stay away from that place if u have to deal with this man Dr Hicks has much better bed side manners and the techs are amazing, I want to thank Sue and James and Brandy and Toni. I had a very positive experience taking my sick dog to Vet-I-Care. the entire team was knowledgable, highly skilled and showed compassion and empathy for my ailing puppy as well as myself. she was admitted after getting sick from moist dog food purchased at Walmart. I brought her to Vet-I-Care and after doing lab work, diagnosed her with pancreatitis. They kept her overnight and her condition worsened. after 5 days, they felt she would have a better chance recuperating at home, so I brought her home. after 2 days, she went downhill and I brought her in again. I was told that she needs to be admitted to a critical care facility because her state was dire. Today, my dog is in the road to recovery and I have Vet-I-Care yo tank for their 24/7 care and devotion and realizing that they have done all they could and she needed to go to a critical care facility. I would definitely recommend vet-I-Care if your pet is ill. read more

More like, vet-doesn't-give-a-damn if you're not a current patient. Our dog chewed through his plastic collar after surgery elsewhere. This place was the only vet open Xmas eve. They REFUSED to sell us a collar because we weren't a current patient. If our dog chewed off his stitches, they'd be glad to help. Their suggestion was insane: tie a t-shirt or pair of underwear around the dog's neck to prevent chewing! WTF! Are they trying to kill the dog! NEVER use this inconsiderate and greedy business! We had to rush our 1.5 year old dog, Zeus to an emergency vet at midnight because he sliced his paw open. When we called Vet-I-Care/Mandarin Pet Emergency Hospital to inquire about wait times, they had the shortest wait time and told us they could help. As soon as we walked in, the tech at the front desk knew what case we were (hurt foot) and immediately got us into an examination room. Quickly, we saw Dr. Greshake and he advised Zeus had to go under anesthesia to get some stitches to stop the bleeding. We cannot say enough WONDERFUL things about this Vet. Dr. Greshake was so patient, kind, informative, and caring. As hard as it was to see our baby in pain, we knew he would receive the care he needed. We had to go home while Zeus underwent anesthesia & the tech at the front desk, Patty was kind enough to call us a few hours later to let us know Zeus did great and we can pick him up in the AM. The bill was as expected for the emergency & service, so no complaints. We got Zeus in the AM and they were super efficient and took great care of our baby. We had to return for several follow-ups to ensure his paw was healing properly and they continued to go above & beyond to take great care of us each time. During one of the follow-ups, we saw Dr. Abbott and just wanted to mention that he was incredible, too. We are so thankful for the care received, attentiveness, and compassion at this vet. I brought my dog here twice when he was very Ill fainting, and lethargic he was seen by the main vet and was misdiagnosed with phemonia and was sent home with antibiotics come back a second time just 2 months later and he was in full heart failure this time leaving the vet without him... we were charged 1,200$ for the whole night which included breathing chamber, blood tests and just the whole works for the WHOLE NIGHT. Got a call 2 hours later saying he had passed and they refused to refund us any of the money even though the 1,200 was for the whole entire night but he was there only 2 hours. KEEP IN MIND they didn't even have time to get around for all the tests and medicines before he passed so quickly. When the vet called and told us the news he was very quick and abrupt and had no sympathy for our dog. Just wanted to get us off the phone. When I came to get his ashes I was given the bag of all his stuff and nothing was discussed with me. A month later and there calling saying they forgot to charge us for some of his funeral expenses. Even after they drained our pockets and had no regard for our feelings. All they're after is ur money. They don't care about your animals well being, only a paycheck. DONT BRING UR ANIMALS HERE. Watch out for this place. I know that people will not be checking reviews when they need emergency veterinary care so the place just keeps going. I have only regrets about bringing my pet to this place. They examined my dog and said he was an old dog and would probably die in surgery. They recommended putting him to sleep. I took him home and the next day brought him to another vet. They performed surgery and my dog is fine. Here is the warning: their services are so expensive that for some reason lethal injection always seems to be the logical choice with these people. So in an emergency you might be tempted to follow their advice. I would never bring any animal to this place in any type of situation. read more

Very bad experience going here. My girl Chewie had been bitten by another dog and needed stitches badly. I called and explained to the woman who answered that I would not be able to make payment until the next day. If they could hold her overnight I could be back in the morning to pay. She then informed me if I cannot pay then there is nothing they can do. This was somewhat understandable, but considering that their sole purpose is to care for pets in day to day and emergency situations I had a bad taste in my mouth. I ended up coming up with the money from a family member and made my way over. When I showed up and told the woman, who's names I cannot remember (probably because she never introduced herself) that I was the gentleman who had called about my dog. She asked "well do you have money?". I further explained that yes I have money now and she liked the sound of that. Got me my paperwork and her entire mood changed. For a short time that is. As I'm filling out paperwork in the office I see a sign posted "Any transactions over the price of $200 are applicable to payment option" which she had failed to mention as an option over the phone, knowing I was in a tight spot. Finally they give me a quote of $645-$699, for anesthesia, cleanup, emergency fee, etc. etc. etc... I was able to slightly negotiate, I decided on waiting until the very next morning to go to my regular vet to get antibiotics & pain medication instead. (which were at a fraction of the cost of this clinic.) this brought the price down to $473. Keep in mind this was a total of 45 minutes and 9 stitches... Long story short this is a very greedy and money hungry small business owner. Who clearly has one thing in mind and it's not your baby.. Not to mention the doctor/owner was who took care of my girl, most unprofessional ,unpardonable, not to mention expensive experience I've ever had. I would never choose a place like this if I wasn't in the predicament I was in last night. I would rate 0 stars if it was possible. Wow! What an incredible vets office! On Christmas morning around 4am we woke up to our puppy very sick. We were out of town visiting my in laws and she got into some food she shouldn't have while we were out. Being the nervous pet parents we are we rushed to find a vets office close by that was open. I called Vet 1 care and Iris answered. She was very calming while also providing just the right amount of concern. We took Bella in and were immediately taken back into a room. Iris and the vet on call were both very sweet to Bella even though they were both very tired from working all night (on Christmas!) and very patient with all of our questions. They walked us thru every single step and made sure we understood every charge before they did anything to her. They made recommendations based off of what was truly needed and what was nice to have. It was refreshing to have someone be so honest and open instead of just looking to make a quick buck. In the end Bella got some medicine and we were done in about an hour. The next day Iris called me just to check in and make sure Bella felt better. She also remembered we were from TN and asked how our drive back was and how our Christmas was. Great customer service! I have taken my dog here twice (for after hours issues). I found the staff friendly, competent and somewhat efficient. My dog did incur a bite fro my other dog and the vet that night suggested a Cat scan because my dog was laying on the examination table when he entered the room and he wrongly assumed the dog was unable to stand. It was bizarre. Two minutes later my dog sat up to greet him. Why he would so quickly go to performing a diagnostic test that would cost upwards of who knows how many dollars is beyond me. As it was the cost of treatment was $400. On her second visit - they suggested an ultra sound after performing an xray. The dog had a uti. Again - bizarre, but I suppose they are looking to increase the cost of the visit? The cost of treating a uti was $370. Wow! What I really took issue with on this second visit (and probably my last patronizing this clinic) was I was charged $60.00+ for a 14-day regimen of Clavomox (a common antibiotic). If one checks online - the cost of this antibiotic is roughly $1.15 per tablet. I should have paid $16.10 for the medication. That is just clear highway robbery in my opinion. I even questioned the cost and the vet tech had no response. I am going to research another clinic that operates 24-hours in the event I need one for "after hours and weekend emergencies. This place has fleeced me for the last time. Again, competent vets who continually gouge. Not good for repeat business or referrals guys. read more

Tried to help the dog by taking him to this animal Hospital and was turned away because he wasn't my dog, they let the dog die in my car when they could have helped him. So I was using this vet office recently. I have had my dog for 8 years but only lived near this place for a couple years. In April my dog was seen for some patches of fur missing because he probably got into something. I was giving him cheese to take the meds. A week later he got super sick (nothing in his diet changed except for cheese) I took him to the vet they said his glucose was high and had diabetes. Gave me insulin and some new food and sent me on my way. Everything was good for a month. This week he has been sick and not keeping anything that he was eating down. Chalked it up to him being a dog and getting into things outside. But last night it was really bad. He collapsed. I took him to the vet and they said that his glucose was so high it was killing his brain cells. I didn't have the money at the time and they wanted 1,080 bucks for him to be hospitalized. I told them I didn't have it but he needed to go or I'd have to come back in a week and he wouldn't make it that long. They tried to get me to apply for care credit but they were closed seeing that it was 1 am. So they sent me back home with a dog who was so weak he couldn't walk. They told me to get the care credit and then come back. Well. My dog died 6 hours after they refused him. To be honest I think that lacks compassion on the vets side because yes I understand that I'm paying you for a service. But when it is life and death you could not have an ice cold heart about it. This is a thank you as much as a review. We have been going to this office with our beloved pooch for 13 years. We received compassionate care and advice throughout. A week ago we had to say goodbye to our sweet dog late on a Saturday night. The kindness shown to us was truly remarkable. Since then, my husband was talking to a colleague who relayed a bad experience he'd had at a big box type place at the end of their pet's life. Afterward, he had to make his payment. It was a cold transaction. At Vet-I-Care the folks were gentle and kind. There was a point during the process while we waited for our dog to be prepped when we went back out to the waiting room to 'fill out the paperwork'. When all was done we were able to have a good family cry and then leave. While we already felt as though we had been treated thoughtfully it was when we heard the other unfortunate story that we realized how exceptional the staff is at Vet-I-Care. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And for those of you considering this Vet I would say that you won't be sorry. read more

I want to share the story of what happened to my Maltipoo, Gracie Ann. She was attacked by an alligator, came running out of the woods, I grabbed her, I picked her up and she started screaming. I saw no visible blood on her. I pushed her little ear forward and that's where I saw the giant tears and puncture wounds. I rushed her to this vet and they put a coagulation powder on her ears to stop the bleeding and kept her for 40 minutes to make sure there was no swelling. While they were getting my bill together I gently stroked her other ear. She started screaming and shaking. I called for some help and then I took her in the back since nobody answered  and I said to the vet and the technicians "did you guys thoroughly check her out? I touched her other ear and she started screaming immediately". They told me they did a full exam and that it was probably just sensitivities from the other ear being tore up. They did NOT look at her again, they just gave me a bill, which was around $240 and I left. I took her home and put her in her bed, she did not want to be touched so I let her rest, but didn't leave her side . A few hours later I looked at her and I noticed the blood coming out of the top of her little head. Her tongue was hanging out and she defecated on me. I took her to a different emergency vet right away where she was reported dead on arrival. Their report and findings was quite different than the first vet's report. It turns out she did have other puncture wounds that they neglected to see. She had very short white hair and obviously they did not check her thoroughly enough. The vet finally called me a week later (he states he was on a hunting trip) admitted fault, and is comping my bill. And for me that is not enough. You do not dismiss your patients. Especially when said patient doesn't have a voice and can't tell you what's wrong. Owners know their dogs better than anyone. This failed recheck came at the cost of her life.  I'm not saying she would've lived with a puncture through the top of her head but I will never know. So as a result of this later on that evening I had to take her to another vet for another $300 for she was announced dead on arrival. This has been a tragedy I hope everybody reads and make your decisions accordingly. Thank you read more

Beware: Terrible place to go, understaffed and geared for money only. most times the Techs treat your pet and not the Veterinarian. If your pet has a major need of surgery from a specialist yet this vet can do a surgery, he will do that surgery to make sure he makes money instead of just having it all done at one time by the specialist and save the pet any suffering. I have lost one pet here do to negligence, I have gone to two other vet offices and both have informed me that Vet I Care refuses to release any medical records, not just mine, but for anyone they request it for! Very knowledgeable and caring Doctors and staff. We have had several pets under the care of Veticare going back over 8years. Dr. G and staff have been great with the routine care of our pets as well as through some very difficult emergencies. They are an emergency vet as well as regular vet care so sometimes the emergencies take precedent for obvious reasons. I cannot say enough good things about the treatment and care we have received over the years. This hospital deals with many tough situations as best as possible. My 4lb Boston got attacked by a 60lb pit. Before this dr, I took her to another emergency clinic that gave me a bill for her to stay over night and get an X-ray of an area that wasn't even bothering her, before even examining her. When I refused the techs face instantly changed and they became much less concerned. Even talking me out of the X-ray as well. I kept asking about her jaw and neck and the dr kept brushing me off. Saying he's not concerned with it. The vet kept her in the back the whole time, so I didn't get to see him examine her or anything. They gave her a pain shot and sent her home. 8hrs later I take her to Vet-i-Care, after calling for simple advice, and Kelly the tech being so sweet and concerned, and talking me thru possibilities and solutions. (They've never even met my puppy before and they tried to help!) I felt I better take her in for a re exam after talking to Kelly, and I took her in immediately. Right away they could tell her jaw was broken without even touching her. Once they looked in her mouth they saw her jaw was detached, and took jaw and head X-rays. Plus the price of this whole visit COMBINED with my other vet er price, was still cheaper than what the other vet quoted me for their bogus exam and sleep over. Vet-i-care did everything they could to help, and the Dr was so kind and compassionate. Gave us lots of options and advise. I will never not take my dog here. Thanks to them, my puppy will be patched up in no time! Thank you! read more

After going for a walk, one of our mini dachshunds somehow lost a nail and began bleeding. After trying all the tricks, he continued to bleed, so I called the clinic. The tech who answered tried to give me some tips over the phone to help stop the bleeding, and possibly keeping me from coming in. I definitely appreciated that. Unfortunately, nothing work so we headed to the clinic. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. I was given a quote for charges and when all was said and done, it ended up being cheaper. Imagine that. I would definitely recommend this emergency clinic and I am thankful they were nearby for my little guy. read more

I've waited a few days to post this to see if my feelings would ease up some and they haven't. I had 3 dogs that were bit by a snake which caused me to bring them in as an emergency visit. It was decided that we couldn't come up with the $2000 per night, per dog to try the antivenom route. This facility doesn't work out payment arrangements so unfortunately, I couldn't do the $1100 per night, per dog no antivenom stay either. What they could do for us, was charge us 3 emergency visits for each dog and write some prescriptions that may or may not have helped. (There was a lot of unknowns when it came to snake bites it seemed) The 3 emergency visits included taking their temp, listening to their heart, and feeling for their bites. That's it.. That's all they did for my dogs. $255 dollars. $255 dollars for one of my dogs to go home and internally bleed to death with me not knowing thats why my poor pup wouldn't lay down that night. What I found out later was that a simple blood test could be taken to at least see if the dogs blood was clotting.. That was not an option given to us that night. I didn't know to ask for it. I had no idea that would happen to my 5.8 pound baby. I sat up, all night with my dog thinking she was probably just hurting from the bite, not knowing her little body was filling up with blood. How painful must that have been for her? The next morning we rushed her to another vet who was at least able to help her with the pain she was in. It was too late to save her but at least they tried. The other vet did blood work on my other two to ensure their blood was clotting so they wouldn't have to go through this. They never made the visit solely based around money. Her life mattered to them and it was known. There was never a sense of urgency with Vet I Care, we were left outside waiting for them to open the door for quite some time (yeah, we called first, they knew we were coming). Then they buzzed us in and we were just there in the lobby for quite some time, frantic, might I add. Then in a room for maybe 20 more minutes before we got to see the actual vet. When I went to a different vet the next day, they grabbed my baby and rushed her to the back to try and save her life. There were multiple employees that came out to ask about her, and try to help us. I really believe that my dog would have passed away even if I could have tried the antivenom, but she didn't have to go home and suffer like that either. If a blood test would have been done that told me one of my dogs blood wasn't clotting, we could have known that Truffles needed to stay overnight but the other two did not. She didn't have to die in pain like that. :( My negative review isn't based solely on the fact that they charge fee's or the fact that I had to wait. My negative review is mainly based on the lack of knowledge about snake bites, the fact that I never felt they cared at all about my pets, and pure point that they never offered that blood test. The visit was spent more talking about how much money things would be that they could try but didn't know if the dogs needed it or if it would even help. read more
