    Beagle Brigade

According to their website, the Beagle Brigade is an informal social group of beagles and their…read more"parents" that meets once a month at the Poway Community Dog Park at 9 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month. All beagles, beagle mixes and their family members are welcome. They do a lot of good with finding loving parents for homeless beagles. And they have events like group walks with the beagles and free breakfasts for dog owners. But what they don't tell you on their website is that they allow massive amounts of bullying. The people that run it unfortunately have shown themselves to be very power hungry and I've seen time and again the gal that guards the gate entrance, berate pet parents-for no good reason at all. If that wasn't bad enough, they allow any other breed in as well, as long as it's from the same household as a beagle. So these big dogs come in and are allowed to gang up on the small dogs. Then they let huge packs of 10-20 beagles gang up on any one helpless victim of their choosing, while they sit by & do nothing. I've seen a poor beagle try to hide under a picnic table to get away from a pack of 20 power hungry dogs, only to no avail. I've had to rescue a few while everyone sat by and stared. One slumped in my arms afterwards, he was shaking and shell-shocked. I'd rather step in dog doody every day than to see these loving, helpless animals be allowed to be bullied like they are when going to meetings at the Beagle Brigade.

Everybody was so kind and we attended for about 5 years before they disbanded the group. I'd have to say that mostly everybody that I seen there loved it as well. Of course, with larger groups of people you will have those that see things one way and others that don't. So goes life. Beagle on my friends. Dr. Watson say's Wuff and Bawwooooooo to you too.

We drove there at 1am in the rain and had high hopes she would pull through, but the X-ray showed a terminal issue and the outcome was inevitable. We appreciate the compassion and professionalism of the staff, especially so late at night. Would highly recommend. My only complaints: 1) No airflow in the two rooms off to the side. Not so bad if you're only in there for 15 min but after an hour, you have to open the door just to breathe. 2) The TV in the lobby is too loud. The people working the counter can hear YOU through the glass partition, but are not aware that your ears are competing with the TV just to hear what they're saying back at you. Another customer came in just after us with a dog whose eye had popped out of the socket. :-( They also had difficulty hearing anything from the counter staff thanks to that TV. Maybe a nice, quiet video loop of relaxing/calming scenery, flowing water, etc.? I can't hear over David Attenborough's voice and that's saying a lot since he's a fairly soft-spoken guy.

When the staff spoke with us, his response was dismissive and showed no compassion. He even asked if bloody diarrhea was our only concern, despite us clearly explaining how serious her symptoms were. When I described Peanut's symptoms to the front desk staff, she immediately tried to assume it was a seizure, even though that was never part of her symptoms. After 45 minutes of waiting, the staff told us the doctor was ready and asked us to hand over Peanut. We were confused as to why we couldn't be present for the initial exam, but we complied. Another 30 minutes passed, and when we asked for an update, we were told the doctor was with another patient and Peanut was "next." Then Peanut vomited blood again, so she was taken back immediately and again we were told she was next. We waited another hour, and by this time it was 12:30 AM with still no care provided. At that point, we were frustrated and concerned for her safety, so we decided to leave and find another urgent care. We found WAG Animal ER, only 8 minutes away, with the same $100 exam fee and no wait. The difference was night and day. The staff there was kind, compassionate, and professional. Peanut was seen by a doctor within 5 minutes. And the Dr even called us 3 days later to check on her status.

So hearing that they were able to bring him out of his shell and get past his shyness was nice to hear. They even played some fetch with him while I was on my way to pick him up! I was able to meet and talk for a bit with the owner. Really nice guy and the groomer was very sweet and upbeat!

She is one of the friendliest, sweetest dogs you could ever meet and has been to other groomers without ever having a bad experience. She usually enjoys going. This time was completely different. When I came back and asked how she was doing, I was told, "I don't know, I didn't touch her." That immediately concerned me. I could not even see my dog at first, and when I asked again, I was told she had been isolated because she was barking. When I finally saw her, she was in a small cage, shaking and clearly terrified. This is not normal behavior for her. As a dog owner, you know your dog, and something was clearly wrong. I calmly expressed that I did not appreciate how she was being handled and that something did not feel right. Later, instead of addressing my concerns, I received a message from the owner accusing me of being rude and telling me not to come back. I was not rude. I was concerned about my dog. I have taken her to multiple groomers, and she has never reacted like this. That alone tells me everything I need to know. I will never bring my dog back here and would not recommend this place to anyone who cares about their pet's well being.
