Don is AMAZING. We are classic, overprotective, overly obsessed with our pup dog parents. He has a few minor behavior issues and so we took him to see Don. The behavior assessment was quick and easy and we left with so much information and were able to begin training him at home immediately. Don recommended we board our pup so that he could build a relationship with him prior to training. We had never left our puppy before and were super nervous, but don exceeded any expectation we could have had! He kept us informed numerous times a day with pictures and videos so we didn't miss our guy too much! He also has come out to our house to help us with training walks and I can't say enough good things about him! Our dog wanted to add a few sentences to this review, forgive his spelling... Don iz my best furiend. I luv hiz dog Dozer, he is gret to play with. Don does me some petz and even chazes me wen I don't lik to go enside for sleepz. He says I good smol boi. I luv socks

My husband & I recently decided we wanted to adopt a rescue dog & decided to go through second chance adoption, which is how I found Ellis. When first going to meet Ellis we were told he was staying with a trainer due to some behavior issues. Once we arrived at Crafty Canine Club we were met by Don the lead trainer who had been working with Ellis for the last 4 months & explained to us in great detail all of Ellis's history & behavioral issues. Ellis had unfortunately been abused & shot with a BB gun so he had major anxiety & PTSD. This Anxiety would cause him to go around in these circles, barking & gnawing at his side. These behavior episodes would go on for long periods of time. Don told aside from this issue he was a great dog, total sweetheart, super affectionate, great hiker! He explained to us all the tools & methods he was using to help him work through the anxiety. Don wanted to be sure we knew what we were in for ensuring success both for Ellis & for us as potential new dog parents. When deciding to follow through with adoption Don offered his help in getting Ellis acclimated into our home, continually being there to answer questions & help with any behavior issues and training questions. I have to say I fully understand why Second chance dog rescue works so closely with Crafty Canine Club. They understand what some of these rescue dogs have been through & the special care they need from people like Don who go above & beyond. We have had Ellis for almost a month now & I can't express how happy we are! He's an amazing dog and I believe he has come leaps & bounds from where they first found him. You can tell he has had great training & lots of love. I think it takes very special people to see that potential & to be patient enough to not give up on these dogs. I would highly recommend Crafty Canine Club for training or any behavioral needs your dog may have. They are the best!!!! We've also recently boarded Ellis while away for a weekend & I can't even tell you how much fun he had! Such peace of mind to be out of town & know our precious Ellis is well taken care of. Thank you Crafty Canine Club, Thank you Don for everything you've done for Ellis. Can't wait for his next visit!

My 10 month old Australian shepherd, moose, was starting to become very reactive to other dogs and strangers. I knew I needed help to correct these behaviors, and decided to do a two week board and train at crafty canine. To say I was nervous was a understatement, but the whole team at crafty canine made me feel very comfortable with leaving my dog in their hands. I was blown away with the amount of communication throughout the two weeks. I was sent texts, pictures, and videos of moose almost daily, and I could reach out any time I wanted for an update. When the two weeks was up I could see major changes in moose's behavior! He has been more open to greetings from strangers and his reactivity towards other dogs, when on leash, is almost non existent. His loose leash walking has also been a night and day difference. He has not pulled me one time on a walk since coming home from his board and train, and I get compliments frequently on how well behaved he is when we are out. I would 100% recommend crafty Canine to anyone looking for training or a place to board their pet!

We last minute boarded our Golden puppy for the first time over the Christmas break, and she absolutely loved Don and her time there and has been back since. We love that's he's a certified trainer, so she comes home tired AND smarter. While we were gone we received photos and vids the whole time of her making new friends and having a great time (even in the rain). We weren't even sure she'd want to come home! We also received a PDF of a training manual so we could continue with whatever he was working on with her. When we picked her up she came out with cleaned ears and smelling like peppermint, and she somehow remembered us. The facility is great with lots of space to run, and you can tell how much love and time and thought actually went into the planning of it. I already know if a pool gets put in she's going to be in it the whole time. She surely already can't wait to go on a hike and work on her off-leash skills. It's also nice to see the rescue horses next door when you turn in We've told all our friends, and when the next ones get their puppy this year, when she's big enough they'll both undoubtedly be coming here together.

I just don't know where to start! Donn and his team have the biggest hearts, and are truly dog whisperers. Their method is relationship based and it absolutely works. They have it down to a science. We brought in our rambunctious Aussie of 10 months in for a 21 day board and train. She as jumping, chasing everything that moved and had severe separation anxiety. What we got back was an amazing angel, her spirit is so much more at ease and she is following her commands. We have been provided daily videos, texts and support through and after the training and we just love Crafty Canines. They are a part of our family. Thank you! Thank you Michael and Davita

I have been boarding and training my dog with Don and Crafty Canine for over a year now and I highly recommend them. Our 7 year old GSP loves it there; the photo of her is literally from one her stays. Here's what you should to know about them: - They are an extremely rare group of professional dog handlers/trainers who are laser focused on taking care of your dog. - Don, who is the owner, is very personable and hands-on. He has an incredible understanding of canine psychology and training as well as how to work with the owners. This is the key differentiator for me as 99% of other companies in this space are "boarding facilities" that lack the level of experience and attention to detail that Don and his team have. - The CCC team is incredibly responsive; we receive a lot of photos, videos, and status updates throughout our dog's stay. - The property is well maintained and the kennel area is very clean. - There's a good mix of different sized breeds. The dogs have a lot of room to run and interact or just chill.

One of my dogs, Rocco, isn't very social and fears bigger dogs (perhaps because of his experience before he was rescued), so it's not easy for him to be around other dogs he's unfamiliar with. But every time he stays over at Crafty Canine, the training that he gets from Don and his team really helps him gradually build that confidence he needs to play around with other dogs. Here he is on day 3 of his stay, enjoying his playtime with another guest doggo. I get to enjoy my time away knowing that my doggos are in good hands with the folks at Crafty Canine.

Thank you Crafty Canine Club for giving us the opportunity to adopt a wonderful dog! Also, big thanks to Don who is so kind and patient when it comes to training us as owners so our boy Bucky can succeed in any situation! 11/10 recommend this place if you're looking to adopt a furry friend!

But, Xavier explained that it was all fear-based. We felt like prisoners in our own house because we felt we couldn't have people over and were constantly on edge that he might bite someone. Xavier made recommendations that gave us back our lives. We bought a crate and took Link everywhere in the house (and eventually outside) on leash. Initially I felt guilty because Link was confined for large portions of the day, but now he has more time outside or the crate/xpen and he will even go in on retreat there when he needs a break from the activity in the house. I was taking him on walks regularly, which made him very happy, but he still gets the "excited poops" and I have to stop and pick up after him 3-4 times per walk, which is not conducive to my exercise requirements (due to a health concern). I plan to try him on more relaxed evening walks and hopefully break his fear cycle and get him better socialized in the coming months.

We were beyond thrilled to add him to the family, but had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Shortly after getting home, chaos ensued. Barking at everything, lunging at people and pets as we would pass. And I spent entirely too much time getting drug through the concrete. We were so disappointed and ready to give him back, which broke our hearts. Shortly after, we called Xavier. Having talked us off a ledge after my second trip through the concrete, we had our first meeting. We learned boundaries and consistency. With time, patience and setting boundaries and staying consistent we put in the work. We knew it wouldn't happen overnight but stayed with it. Now, 2.5 years later, he is a totally different dog. Do we still not love people passing the house? No.. but if I was abused previously I'd probably be weary for the rest of my life too. However, he is an amazing dog and we look back and our more and more happy that we didn't give up. We welcomed our first child last month to our crew. We were always slightly nervous with how he would do, but with staying consistent every step of the way and using the tools Xavier has given us for the rest of our lives, we were able to keep putting in the work. He has been a dream with our little girl, we will always proceed with caution and respect all boundaries, but he has so much love. If you feel like giving up hope on a dog, you don't know where else to turn and you feel as though all hope is lost. Call Xavier and Nicky. They have changed our outlook on dog training as a whole and have helped us more than words can describe.

**Life-Changing. Truly.**…read more I don't write reviews lightly and I especially don't write emotional ones--but Bark Busters of San Diego quite literally gave me my life back. For years, I lived in silence and stress. I couldn't leave my home without my dogs barking, howling, scratching at their crates, and spiraling into panic. The mouth watering alone was enough to break me. So instead, I stayed home. I adjusted my life around their anxiety. I suffered quietly because I loved them and didn't know what else to do. Until one day I broke down completely. I realized this wasn't living not for me, and not for them. We deserved calm. We deserved peace. We deserved to live our "best" lives and this wasn't it. Some people complain in reviews that dog training "doesn't work." Let me be very clear: anxiety whether in humans or dogs is not something you fix by checking a box. A true behavioral therapist understands one thing above all else, "awareness". Anxiety comes from surroundings and perceived safety. The work is learning how to respond and create calm and that takes consistency. I spent three straight weeks training four hours a day, every single day. I cried. I doubted myself. I wanted to quit. But I followed the Bark Busters program exactly as taught--daily simulations, real-world scenarios, repetition, and patience. And then something incredible happened. My dogs slept. They relaxed. They trusted. Today, I can leave my home and my dogs are calm, quiet, and peacefully sleeping, knowing I'm coming back. Visitors come and go with ease. My 9- and 6-year-old Maltipoos are relaxed, confident, and happy. And so am I. Here's the truth people don't want to hear, there is no magic pill. There is no shortcut. The training never "ends" because leadership and love are lifelong commitments. And honestly? That's the gift. Once it becomes part of your daily life, it feels natural. I walk more. The cuddles are calmer. I'm no longer being climbed on out of anxiety I'm being loved in peace. And about the cost? Think about it. You've already spent more on multiple trainers, treats, wasted time, emotional exhaustion, and a very unhappy household. Bark Busters' training is guaranteed for life. If you move. If life changes. If new challenges come you're supported. That matters more than people realize. Justin and his team are beyond words. Compassionate. Honest. Direct. They don't just train dogs, they train families. Value your pet's life. Value the short, precious time we get with them. Happiness--for everyone in the home is worth the work.

As first-time dog owners, the early support really did help us. Having someone we could call during those overwhelming first months was a relief. Over time, though, I realized I was hoping the training would shift toward more positive reinforcement. The constant, harsher corrections worked at first but eventually didn't seem effective anymore and started affecting my relationship with Mimi. I noticed this during a family trip where Mimi, who is usually fearful of strangers, bonded more easily with my husband and his family. She gravitated toward them when scared, and I realized it might be because they weren't following the correction-heavy approach, while I was. I also asked for help with Mimi's fear and reactivity toward other dogs, but was told they didn't have dogs available for training and that I would need to bring a calm, socialized dog myself. As a non-trainer, that was very hard, but we tried by traveling many hours to introduce her to my husband's family dog. The experience ended up being chaotic since the family didn't fully understand what the process required, and new people and dogs kept appearing even though Mimi wasn't ready. Her reactivity came back in that environment, which made me feel like the training had only put a bandaid on deeper fear issues. Maybe I should have clarified expectations better from the start, but with a high-need dog and being new to all of this, I didn't know what to expect. Since then, we've switched to a positive reinforcement trainer who organizes structured group activities. Mimi is still scared of bigger dogs and can still be reactive, but she's improving slowly and has been able to meet a few smaller dogs. She's also still fearful of people, but she nips a lot less now, so progress is happening. Overall, Bark Busters helped us in the beginning, but long-term we found that a different, more positive approach has been a better fit for Mimi.

He's very responsive to the "off" command, which we use primarily to keep him off the furniture and out of the kitchen. Last week we had friends over for dinner and after his initial excitement he was a good boy, lying nearby content and chewing on a bone. We even attended the Humane Society Walk for Animals at Kit Carson Park, and with hundreds of dogs and people and non-stop activities, he was again a very well-behaved boy. We are so appreciative of the work that Michelle did with Monty. He is now the dog we always hoped he would be - happy, well-behaved, and living his best life!
