I understand that dogs can be anxious and difficult to groom, and my goldendoodle can be skiddish, however I wish I got an apology for the cuts on my dog's behind. When I called to explain, the owner was quite defensive, saying he doesn't remember it ever happening and things like this don't happen in his shop. I had to tell him I had pictures to prove it before he'd really listen to Me. I'm more bothered by the lack of ownership of the issue and I would have preferred the groomer when I picked up my dog to own up to it, tell me what happened, instead of me finding out by watching my dog whimper for hours after grooming and then to cal and get a defensive 'wasn't me'. I had been going to Dapper Doggery with no complaints until the last appointment in October 2023. When I brought my dog home she could hardly open her eyes. They got very goopy the next 2 days. I had to take her to the vet. I had to administer eye medication and pain medication. Today is November 8 and her eyes are still problematic, I think she can't see very well. Going back to the vet. She lost 5 pounds, lost her happiness and her hair is thinning. I think some of it may be from trauma. I can't risk taking her back to Dapper Doggery again. Very first visit went great. They were timely, my pet was well groomed and seemed comfortable. He does not usually do well with groomers he is not yet 2 years old but he did well and I prepped him for the visit by making sure it was early in the day when he is usually calmer. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. 3 precious little dogs were running around playing when I arrived and the staff member made every effort to help with introductions for my pet. I don't typically like to leave bad reviews but I'm doing this so that I can warn other people about this business. If could give this place a zero, I would. The owner was extremely judgemental and unfriendly. My boyfriend set up the appointment over the phone. According to him, you can already tell that the lady who picked up had an attitude. When I dropped off my 6-month-old Yorkie, I didn't feel welcome at all. No one was friendly. I told the staff that this was my dog's first time getting groomed and warned them that she had some matting. They told me they would probably keep her face nice and fluffy but shave the rest of her body, which I was completely fine with. I saw they had a little Yorkie and complimented them saying she was really cute. The owner without bothering to greet me, turn around, or anything told me that she breeds them. I told her about my concern about my Yorkie's ears not perking up and she mentioned that cutting her hair might help. So I told them to do whatever they think is best, thinking that they would already cut it off. When I picked up my dog, the only person there was the owner. I hear my Yorkie crying from the back room. Without me saying a word, the owner says "Yeah. You can tell she's not used to closed spaces" in the most condescending tone. She brings me my dog and goes "She's also in heat, so she's highly rape-able" As if I didn't know what my dog was going through. My dog's ear hair was still there. She mentioned AGAIN that if we just cut my dog's ear hair then her ears could easily perk up. So I asked her "I'm headed to work in about 45 minutes, how long will it take to just cut her ear hair off" This entire time, her tone was just completely full of attitude. She replies "typically with other dogs it can take a minute or two, but with her, it will take a long time. Everything with her takes a long time. You can tell she's never done this before" OBVIOUSLY! This was her FIRST TIME GETTING GROOOMED!!! I was so frustrated. Then she says "bring her next week and I'll cut the hair off" as if she was doing me the biggest favor. NO THANK YOU! Never again! I'm making sure to let everyone I know to avoid this business. I'm honestly surprised that you have stayed in business for this long considering 3/10 reviews you have on Yelp are negative. PS my dog has a popped blood vessel in her eye after coming back from this place. IF YOU GO HERE Expect the following : 1. Bad Service 2. Plenty of Attitude 3. I'm sad to say I've been supporting this business for over 10 years and continued to do so even though I moved 35 mins away from Poway. My Dogs have never liked going there and have even tried to get out the door once inside. Today it all became very clear! Upon arriving 50 minutes early (i had called days ago to let them know I needed to) the groomer was furious, threw the brush she had been using across the room, untied the dog she was brushing and dragged him to the back room. She was pissed and stated I'd brought them early the last 3x I was there (i happen to drive a long way and have a business of my own to run) After this ridiculous display I refused to leave my golden retrievers there with them. I took my large, long hair cat to get a lion cut shave today at Dapper Doggery with Justin. First of all, it was so easy to make an appointment and he completed the grooming efficiently and right on time when he said he would. All the steps of booking, including signing up on the app, were very professional and easy to do. The facilities are upbeat, colorful and clean with a friendly staff. I am only giving this place a three-star (have yet to convince me of its true worthiness) for two reasons, and two reasons only. It's walking distance from my place and they take away the doggie smell. This is a small establishment located on the corner of Pomerado and Oak Knoll Road. Not the neatest either but I guess it's what you can expect when you're grooming and trimming little and big poochies. However, the trimming of the nails, DON'T! Not from here. I took Skipper for his regular bath and nail trimming. In fact, it was his second visit and I really have to kick myself in my derriere (somebody check my spelling, please)...what the heck...ass...because I told myself no more nail trimming from this place. Well, I forgot to say no when asked what Skip' needed. Needless to say, he smelled great, cute bandanna, but his nails looked (look) awful. I had to pull loose nail skin on a few toes. TMI? That should tell you something then. The price is right and location is key. But, think twice of your pet's needs and do a little bit more research for better spa places before giving this place a try. All they really need to do is learn how to give a proper pedicure on an animal. However, if you can't do it right, just don't offer the service. I'm just sayin'. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Never had a better groomer for my Yorkies. Many places will just shave them when matted but Keara takes the time to brush his knots out to leave his fur as long as possible. Great service and atmosphere (family owned-they even have their personal pets in the office) I'm always pleasantly surprised by my pups new hairstyle! I brought my dog in here for self grooming/cleaning and the place was in really poor shape. Now as a groomer I have no idea what skills they have BUT when you open up the back end of your shop for people to pay to use their facilities then you better have some care and prepare it. This place was just DIRTY. I asked for simple things like soap. It was then "mixed" for me after two personal phone calls as my dog waited in a dirty tub with a rusted chain around its neck. I then made the request for tools to scrub and comb the dog. I was told, "I guess we can loan you something?" Huh, what am I paying $12 for? Some water downed soap, a dirty tub, rusted chain and your water? Uh, you need to provide TOOLS as part of the service in a dog wash facility. I was then handed ONE small and dirty towel to dry my dog off with. What the hell people? If I am paying to wash my dog in your place versus mine then make it comfortable and less intrusive then my own home. Or I will not be paying you $12 for a tub that is not even clean. Also, please clean up the dog hair EVERYWHERE...if I am coming into the back of your shop then you have to be prepared for us to expect it to be tidy and service useful. Not sure what motivated this place to begin to allow for self cleaning BUT if they continue to carry it on as a way to offset lost revenues then they should go look at other places such as Noah's Ark... read more

I've taken my dog here @ 5-6 times, I thought I had gone more. You'd think you'd start to be a "regular" customer. I called and made a same day appointment (they've only seen me same day one other time.). My Corgi had a 1:30 appointment. I dropped what I was doing so I could get him there and had him there just before 1:30. I was told he would be ready at 4:30. As I left the store, I said (to all three women working), "Have a good day", none replied a word (so akward). When I went to pick him up I skipped through traffic, then noticing I was going to be early, I stopped for groceries. I arrived at 4:30 sharp. I walked in and received, "He won't be ready for another half hour (while refrigerated items sat in my car). I said, "Can you call me next time knowing you will be late?" Dapper Doggery, "Sometimes things don't go as planned." I was appalled and almost took my dog right then and there. What kind of smart alex remark is that? How hard would it have been to pick up the phone 30 min-1hour ahead of time to notify me? You know as a professional service if you are running late and respect others' time. I then checked out (25 min late). As I'm sitting ready to pay, the phone rang and the groomer had me wait right in front of her as she took an appointment. I could not believe it. Rudest thing I have EVER felt. I can not belive they can't see the poor customer service. They lost Shorty and me as customers. I ALWAYS gave a $10 tip on top. I took my two Cocker Spaniels to have their hair done after hearing many a good thing from friends about this groomer. Upon picking up both dogs on two separate occasions, I believe that they had fallen off the tables and injured their legs as they both seemed to have developed limps. I've seen the groomers leave dogs unattended and leashed up on the tables while they walk around and do other things, which is why I believe they were injured in such a manner. The haircuts are decent but I don't like how they leave the dogs locked up ALL DAY and don't let them out to use the restroom. Needless to say, I have not returned since my dogs were injured. read more

I use to take my guide dog to Dapper Doggery for a bath. At first, it seemed good. But one day when I got her there, she was quivering. I asked the groomer why. She told me that it was because my dog didn't like the dryer hose. The next time I took my dog, she yanked me backwards. She got a bath, but I watched everything that was done with her. there weren't any chairs in the small lobby. Anyhow, after we left, a friend called and informed me that the groomer is to rough with dogs. I stopped taking my dog there. Instead I take her to PetCo. they are nice, and respectful. they are loving to dogs, and other animals. Please, I urge, don't take your dog to Dapper Doggery.
