There are walking trails, a play area, & an exploration area. This is not your typical plastic play equipment type of playground. In fact, it all blends into the landscape so fantastically well! It looks so natural, which was the goal, so kudos to everyone who imagined and made this park what it is! There are three separate play areas: 1) basket swings are suspended between large beams 2) jungle gym with a small climbing rock, a climbing net, and a couple of thick ropes 3) a large "fallen" tree trunk for climbing on The play equipment was made by: Handcrafted Nature's Instruments. Within this First Creek Park is the First Creek Exploration Play Zone. This Exploration Play Zone is what I came to check out. It is a little section which facilitates discovery and learning. More parks could set aside a small area like this! There are signs with suggestions, information, and question prompts. It's pretty cool! There are benches in the shade near the exploration area. This park has no restrooms and no parking lot that I could locate. I parked in the residential street near the end of E. 54th Avenue. Read the parking signs to make sure you're legally parked. I didn't explore every corner of this park, so I look forward to seeing other people's pictures of what I missed!

They hold events here during the summer that are a blast to attend for family fun. The only disappointing part of this park are the teenagers it attracts. The park can be full of children under 8 years old and the teens will be cussing up a storm and pushing children. The best time to go is on the morning before the ill raised teens come to ruin the fun.

I'm a San Diego native and yes it's home but Colorado has my heart. When you arrive at Barr Lake there is an entrance fee but it was minimal. I purchased the park pass. It was worth it. When you drive through the gate the speed is slow because there are multiple parking lots and turn off areas and pedestrians so keep an eye out. I drove to the last lot where the information center is and had no problem finding a parking spot. There were several people and groups already there and setting off on their walk. I joined them. It was a clear October day in 2020 and I was excited to walk and gawk and snap pictures. I walked about for over three hours and met some lovely people. I believe I snapped over 200 shots that day. It's one of my all time favourite places in Colorado.

It's about 30 minutes from Denver and I when I arrived it was so windy so I didn't get to explore much. I will say though, it's a beautiful State Park with tons of parking, picnic tables, benches, and places to grill and chill. A lot of trails in the park too that I can't wait to go back and check out. You can take a boat out there as well. This park used to be known as "peter pan park" but lately we've sadly been calling it "dog poop…read morepark" after counting nearly 100 piles of dog poop in the grass areas near the walking paths. It has gotten so bad. Leaving dog poop is illegal in Westminster and people should be fined but there's no one enforcing it and parks crews don't clean it up either.

It seems better for older kids but our toddlers had fun climbing all over and enjoying the full park grounds. Every corner had a nod to rhythm and history--vinyl records in the sidewalk, chimes on the bridge, even the playground looked like it was mid-song. It's more than a park--it's a tribute to community and culture, loud and proud. A little scruffy in spots, sure, but full of soul.

There is a gazebo and a couple bbq pits by the playground. On the sign is an endorsement from a program called T.O.P.S (Take Off Pounds Successfully), which I think is great! There are often people just out walking around the path and kids on the basketball court.
