I am surprised and disheartened to read the negative reviews. I have had Louie there who needed extensive bowel surgery, due to swallowing thread! I took in a kitten that was found hanging by her arm, that was later removed. Dr. Danova did an absolutely wonderful job with Louie! That kitten is now a 6-year-old tripod getting around quicker than I am...although I was not impressed with that doctor, so I guess it is a matter of who you are dealing with and what they are going through. The staff are compassionate and kind. We could use more people who genuinely care for our companions. This is Misty then and now, a beauty. read more

I took a dog there that I had found in the street. All I wanted them to do was scan for a microchip. Now I understand everyone's concerns about the coronavirus and their policies, I am a health care worker. I totally would have waited outside while they took the dog and scanned her, just to see if there was an owner registered so I could take her home. The basically were telling me that they would not help me! I had to go all the way to Griffin Pond. I didn't even know if they were there I was after hours. Attached is the ever so compassionate condolences they sent. Never bring your pet here! The owner truly does not care for your pet and does not treat you like family refusing to come in to check up on your pet after surgery even when she knows there is something wrong. They are under staffed and dont really care about your animal. Dr Payne is one of the worst human beings on this planet who has no bedside manner and should not be a vet. They have terrible pain management for pets and do not check up on them or try other medications if your dog has side effects to a medication. They dont follow up with you nor do they explain things well at all keeping you in the dark. Awful practice, just dont go here if you can avoid it. Do yourself a favor and drive a few hours down to Malvern and go to Hope VS the staff is 100% compassionate and knowledgeable and treat you like family unlike VREC which treats you like garbage. read more

Following a recent surgery, our dog tore open her stitches after business hours and we were in a panic of what to do. We called the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center with a pretty clear emergency and could not believe our experience. First they wanted us to e-mail them a picture so that they could see what was going on. They said that they would look at it and call us back. Not a problem, we took the picture and sent it to them within minutes. But then an hour and a half later we still hadn't received any response or return call. So when we called back they told us that they HAD looked at the picture and they DID want us to rush our dog down to them, they just hadn't bothered to tell us... So we got our dog in the car and we rushed down to the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center (an hour drive as we mentioned to the person we spoke to on the phone). When we got there, we were told to call to let them know we were there so that they could arrange for us to bring our dog in. Now, 3 phone calls later, while we're standing in the parking lot, they now want to ask us questions and build our file. OK... This is important stuff and we want our dog to be taken care of, so we took the time to answer all of the questions. But then we get to "allergies"... We tell them that our dog is allergic to a particular pain medication and their response was "Is that, like, a serious allergy, or just a minor reaction". Because, presumably, they would just ignore her medical history if they decided it wasn't important enough...?? We then finally get our dog in, with a hole in her side the size of a quarter, and they tell us "she'll need to wait her turn". OK... I'm sure they're treating a lot of animals and some of them may be even worse off. Just so long as she's taken care of was all we were worried about. We'd wait however long we needed to. We just wanted our dog taken care of. But we were the only ones it seems with such a concern. Two hours later we got a call from them letting us know that they were going to be doing nothing with the open wound on her side. Nothing. She was ready for us to pick her up. They were doing nothing? We could SEE inside her... Nothing. We asked how we were supposed to keep this clean with it being open, since infection was a big concern for us. The response we got was a shrug of the shoulders and a "you do the best you can". Meh, who cares. Certainly not Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center... Oh, and they wanted to let us know that they were upset because our dog (a dog to be clear) was barking at them to be let out of the cage they put her in... It's helpful, "professional", observations like this that justify their exhorbitant prices I guess... But we have to wait for them to now put together the discharge paperwork. Well, there's another hour right there... Waiting in the parking lot to pick up our dog, that they've now done nothing for... So we finally get our dog back, now noticing that she was never given a local or sedated in any way. That's right, they muzzled her and were poking their hands in and around her open wound without any medication to help. And they're surprised our dog was upset. Who wouldn't be upset being the subject of such gross incompetence and negligence? I think I would have had some choice words myself! Wouldn't you? But they were upset with our dog. Absolutely amazing. But that's when we noticed that our dog reaked of filthy kennel. She'd been there for 3 hours. Did they have her sitting in filth? Our whole car reaked. Completely disgusting. I'm sure that helped avoid invection of the wound they refused to do anything about. Throughout our experience, not once did anyone at Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center show anything remotely approaching a bedside manner. They never told us "she'll be OK", no "We'll take good care of her", not a "she's in good hands", nothing. Instead we, and our dog, were treated like an inconvenience. This place needs to change its name and 24/7 status. Went there last night around 10pm and was told there was no doctor there and they haven't been available after hours for a few years! I told the girl that's not what is advertised on the webpage and the building! Why do you waste money having people there to just tell you not available. Don't waste your time going there. They referred me to the ER in Plains and when I called there, NO DOCTOR would see my pet for 8-10 hours! That tells you that there is no vet there 24/7 either! What kind of ERs are they? We had to take our "Doodle" to this clinic after our Veterinarian determined that due to his abnormal blood-work results he needed an emergency ultrasound. The results of this examination were devastating. We were advised that that surgery would probably not produce a favorable result, and that he should be euthanized. The office staff was very nice. I wish I could say the same about the Veterinarian that entered the room to administer the drugs. He was rude, callous, and totally uncaring. I did not expect him to embrace me...that is not my point. But, at such a highly sensitive and emotional time, I found him to be more upsetting than the entire situation. Patient care and customer service are definitely not his strong suits. I will NEVER step foot in there again. read more

My dog was hit by a car after escaping from our yard while out searching via facebook notification we found the police had her after being hit by a car. We rushed to the scene and the kind officers whisked her away to this place. Thanks so much to the Scranton PD for taking care of our girl. We've been here for over two hours still waiting for a status they wanted all kinda of blood work and i'm just begging for x-ray results. Still sitting here no news I don't understand what the problem is they're complete Im told the vet was reviewing them and still nothing. If there are devisions to be made i need the information to make them. Poor baby scared and alone in there with strangers that i so do not trust at all right now. Our dog required an osteotomy. Which is surgery on the leg where they cut the bone put a plate with screws and a bone graph in to sum it up. The surgery was supposed to fix a deformity of her leg. (As this is what it was called by the orthopedic surgeon at the practice) I was told it would be 100% fixed by the surgeon herself and that the leg would look straight like there was no deformity. Basically, it was to match her other leg that has no deformity. After the surgery my dog had a bandage wrapping with a splint in place During the duration of the 3 month healing process we stated something was off because it was turning outwards. The bandage itself was bending. A month after the surgery, they removed the splint (due to it not healing the way they wanted it to) 3 days before this they charged me 20.00 for another splint and then removed it not even a few days later at her first radiograph appointment without even refunding Another month goes by and they say she is completely healed even though at her second radiograph appointment I stated her paw was turning out and that there was a bulge in her leg. I Was told it would turn forward in about 2 weeks time and just needed a little more time I call with some concern at the 2 week mark because the paw is still sideways and the bulge is getting worse and I get accused of being rude and hanging up on them and got told they would cancel the appointment of my dog at the 4 weeks like what ?? If it's included that means I already paid for said appointment right .. but the fact of me just showing concern for my dogs leg especially when I was told I would receive a call back and didn't ?? .. anyways it's now been almost 4 weeks since that appointment and tell me how my dogs leg looks the exact same. We paid 4,300.00 for her leg to be corrected and 100% fixed for her to look the exact same added 2 photos to show exactly what I am talking about. This place is money hungry only cares until after they receive their money then it's like a completely different place. After that accusation of being rude and not receiving proper acknowledgment of my dogs issues with her leg we filed for a dispute with our card and tell me how this place demanded we drop the dispute if we want to see our dog we had no problem doing that if they fixed the issue but they said they weren't going to that they would see her ??? I'm not going to stop a dispute for you to see her I expect the leg to be done properly. Next is we are suing for malpractice because the way our dogs leg looks is down right ridiculous and definitely not what we paid for !! Steer clear and go to a better surgeon read more

This vet saved my kittens life. The staff was wonderful, everyone from the receptionists to the vet techs to the doctors explained things clearly and was extremely friendly. Our poor kitten was there from Friday night to Sunday morning so I met a good portion of the staff too. They are so helpful and kind. They let you visit your pet any time except during rounds (7-8am and pm). I was expecting to pet her while she was on a table or in her cage but they gave us a private room and unhooked her from her IVs so we could hold her and she could walk around. There was no rush even though our visit was right before night rounds on Saturday. The doctor personally called me about every 12 hours with an update. They provide estimates for every test and ask beforehand. Thankfully we were able to take her home a day early (which proves they just aren't out for money!). When we left we got discharge papers, 1 which explained why she was brought in, the tests run, and the results (which also got sent to our vet) and a breakdown of every single charge during her stay- even the exact name of the meds and the dosage and how much that cost each time. (Completely made up example "drug A- .5mg $12,"). It was more thorough than hospital bills I've gotten for myself! Although so often it's a tragic place due to its nature as being an emergency vet, the staff is wonderful, cheery, kind, and really care about your pet. I hope you don't have to go here, but if you have an emergency you're in good hands. read more

I took my dog for an allergy shot there because I was unable to get a timely appointment with my own vet because of COVID. With the exception of the allergy, the dog was fine when admitted but she was discharged with a limp, lethargic, disoriented and just not herself. I phoned the Center and they advised that there were no irregularities and to "go see your own vet", I phoned again that the dog's condition has not improved. They did not return my call. I wrote a letter to the owner and never received a reply, Don't go there. $309 for an allergy shot with side effects which they won't account for. I finally took my dog to my regular vet who promptly and successfully treated her. read more

Our baby girl had a lump on her tongue. We took her here and it was removed with surgery. No cancer. The staff are so kind. The doctor was amazing. This is the second time they have helped us. I am so grateful to them all. I would go to them again if I needed to. If you have an emergency I would trust them with my babies. Thank you to them. read more

Earlier this year cardiologist gave one diagnosis in the exam room, then would not release the documents while I was there...said they'd "email them." When we got the email, it was the totally OPPOSITE diagnosis--all after a 4 hour round trip! When we called, absolutely astonished, the cardo vet said, (I quote), "So just take the hit on this one." That's IT!!! Had to go to another cardiologist. (That's over $1,000 spent by then) Today I took another dog for cardio, again, they didn't release the diagnosis (was all clear in exam room--no problems--a pass) and said they'd "email them" and I'm home now 4 hours later--no email. I'm afraid its going to be the same thing--if it happens again I'll have to deal with the AVMA on this. Oh, and vet was almost an hour late. All of us with appointments sat there waiting, having arrived on time for our commitment. He said "he always gets caught in traffic" I sure hope he understands to leave a little early (???) I'll report back as to whether they do the same bait and switch on this second dog. read more

my dog was admitted because of bite wounds from another dog. The clinic put just ONE staple in his main wound under his left armpit . And two staples in his neck. That were hanging out, by the way. By the time we got home the main one was bleeding profusely. So we turned around and went right back up. four pictures that are shown are of the bleeding on the way back up to the clinic. When I called the clinic to ask them if that was normal procedure to just put one staple in a large wound they said, sometimes. I asked them if it was also normal procedure to stitch the wound for a dog bite and they said yes. However they did not do that. When he was admitted the second time on 9/21/2020 approximately 45 to an hour later because it takes us 30 minutes to get there, they suggested that he stay overnight because there may have been something that they missed and the wound may have been deeper. The blood from under his left arm was actually squirting out. Possible severed vessel. The next morning when we called to check on him all they could tell us was he was resting comfortably. I proceeded to ask if he was still bleeding. The desk woman answer me she did not know. That point I became concerned and called my regular vet to get him to better care and a second opinion. When we arrived to pick up Blu, he was unresponsive, neurological. Eyes was were fixed, whimpering in pain. Limbs were purple from Edema, still bleeding from the main wound under his arm. He also had no blood pressure. I can't my head around why they didn't do emergency surgery. Or at the very least put a drain in so that edema would not set in. My regular vet was concerned that he needed a drain put in that he did not have so he referred us to Lehigh , valley central animal emergency. (Under the second discharge instructions where is his Musculoskeletal and Neurological points it states that he was not lame and no neurological problems. This is not correct in any way!!!! He was completely unresponsive, neurological. Eyes were fixed teeth were clenched to the point I couldn't open his mouth, and in very much pain. They had to gurney him out to us. There was No discussion on VREC's part whether it was safer for him to have stay there and not be moved. Or to have him go somewhere else. There was no conversation at all. At that point I believe they had messed up and wanted to get rid of him and not take responsibility.) We Transported Blu to Lehigh Valley Central. Attached are pictures of our transport where you can see the purple limbs in his state of non-ambulatory. The doctors at Lehigh said he was in septic shock. For how long we don't know. But for sure when we picked him up he was purple . Limbs filled with blood . How do they did not notice that his limbs are purple Is beyond me. Blu as a pre-existing condition of Wobblers disease. I told VREC that he was on a steroid. They have his history there, they know this, and I also told them when he was being admitted .And they were not supposed to give him any anti-inflammatories. But gave him carprofen, not good ! VREC is unresponsive to me trying to get in touch with them to get any information. I did talk to a client service specialist who said the doctor was supposed to call me and never did. All I want is answers. This is heartbreaking. I am shattered. We had to put Blue to sleep. at Lehigh valley central, they said he had a grim outlook. He was in too much pain and I didn't want him to suffer. beyond shattered !!! please don't take your pet there. they will suffer read more

These are the most despicable people ever! I would give them negative stars, if I could. We have an 11 year old German Shepherd who was heavily panting and clearly struggling to breathe. On July 18, 2022, my husband called to see if we could bring her in, because obviously something was wrong with her. We live about 45 minutes away. We get there and are told there are three patients ahead of us. They are taking these stupid Covid precautions way too far...We were told by the not so pleasant office staff that we had to wait in the car and would get a call when they could see her. If you remember, it was over 80 degrees yesterday and even hotter in the car. Yes, great idea...take our panting dog to our hot car to wait. Well after being out there for almost 30 minutes, my husband went back in to inquire about the wait. He was told that there were now two patients in front of our dog. He reminded them that Kyra was having trouble breathing and that it's hot outside. The souless woman at the front desk said that she would pass the information along. We waited another 5 minutes without so much as a peep from them. Needless to say, we got back in our car and drove an hour + down to Allentown. If you truly love your pet, avoid this place. They honestly don't care about your animal's health. read more

Although it can be expensive, they will do whatever they can to save your pets' lives. I've had long-term familiarity with some staff and doctors there, as having multiple pets or working in rescue you might. Dr. Dionne Ferguson (internal medicine) and Dr. John Goodwin (cardiologist) have been been wonderful, dedicated, compassionate, and patient when dealing with my kids (pets). Two of my cats have been treated (and cured!) of hyperthyroidism with radioactive iodine (I-131) there. This was a few years ago for both of them. Both are still with me and doing well. One is now 12 years old and the other is 15 years old. I've also had some sad experiences. I lost 3 of my kids in the last year to various cancers or other complications. My two boys were father and son and had congenital hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Both developed different cancers at almost the same age. They stayed in touch with our regular vets and shared visit records so they were equally aware of their most current state with treatments and visits. It was devastating, but they helped inform us of all of our options, and understood how they're family. In the end, they assisted with support and pain meds. When it was time (no one is ever prepared for that, our kids, or any of us) they were there to help make their passing as pain-free and as fear-free as possible for them, and we were there with them. They also offer services and I have my kids' urns with their paw prints. Just recently, I lost one of my girls to complications from lymphoma and/or IBS a few months before she would have been 16 years old. They saw her every few weeks over 6 months to monitor chemo and get B-12. (I couldn't do chemo with my boys with their heart conditions which was the worst not being able to try). She got those 6 months....and for the first few her levels and bloodwork fluctuated and then seemed to improve, but when it got too much for her any more and it stopped helping and organ issues overcame treatment, they were there to assist her transition as peacefully as possible for her. They sincerely care. I can't thank them or recommend them enough in an emergency. read more

This place should not advertise that they provide service 24/7. My puppy was hit with a tractor and we brought her in to this "24/7" establishment to get immediate care, like they say they provide. We were told they weren't taking new patients at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. I asked if they would just look at her to give an opinion and they would not. If you need immediate care definitely call ahead. We wasted 45 minutes driving there just to be turned away. On the other hand, we called our horse vet Northwinds, who are not open on Sundays, and both veterinarians beat us to their office and took X-rays of her letting us know what was going on. read more

On the night of October 19/20 we took our very sick boxer named Ally to VREC. Unfortunately Ally did not survive.We cannot say enough about the kindness and compassion shown to us and more importantly to our Ally by all of the staff on duty that night. They allowed us all the time and privacy we needed to say goodbye to Ally. I understand that owners are not allowed to go inside due to Covid, however the woman who brought my injured dog out was super rude and inconsiderate. My dog got mauled by a pitbull and had to be stitched up. She didn't bother to help me get my dog in my car or even ask if I needed help. She shoved the medicine in my face, put my dog's e-collar on the ground in the dirty parking lot and started walking back into the building before I even got my dog in the car. I tried to say thank you to be polite in case I misunderstood her response and she gave me a snippy response. read more

Emergency Vet center in clarks summit is an absolute disaster. From start to finish they screwed up and nearly killed my pet. The vets are inexperienced and highly incompetent. My pet was misdiagnosed (twice! Yep, that's right. They had two chances to get it right and they missed it both times), nearly leading to his death. It's sad we have to take our pets out of town not only to get decent care, but to even get a proper diagnosis. There was no ownership of their egregious mistake. Never and I mean NEVER take your pet here. It could be the worst mistake you've ever done. These vets have no idea what they are doing. Save yourself the time, the headache and the expense. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE where they actually know what they are doing. Pls pass the word. read more

I literally can't help but feel all this place cares about is making money. Everyone at the front desk is AWESOME. Very nice and make you feel at home. When it comes to the doctors it's a different story. It's as if they couldn't care any less about your pet (this is only going by my experiences.) they don't explain stuff to you, they just throw your animal meds and give you some round about answers. I really don't like going there. Told them my animals allergic to chicken but they said the chicken food they gave him should be fine.. so I listen.. because it's a doctor. Go back again another doctor says don't feed him it because it was going to bother him. I wanted to scream NO SH*T!!! Ugh. I took my dog here the other night around 4:30 am for his seizures. He had about 10 at that point and clearly needed to be hospitalized. Mind you, I am from New York, I was away for the weekend at the lake with my dog and friends. Obviously this was an emergency since it was the middle of the night. I called before and they said to bring him in. It was a 45 minute drive from where we were. The front desk woman was absolutely horrible. She was insensitive, rude, and unprofessional. She didn't greet me, was huffing and puffing the whole time I was there like I was inconveniencing HER. When my friend who came with me asked to use the bathroom because we drove 45 minutes she said "no no bathroom this place isn't even supposed to be open right now were not even supposed to be here." How rude. I was clearly having a horrible night and she and the other woman showed zero empathy and had this energy like I was bothering them. When they took him back the vet called and basically told me that they are short staffed and she's getting off of work at 7 (it was 5am at that point) so she doesn't want to keep him because no one would be there to monitor him. Why is she explaining that they are short staffed and when she gets off work? I had to ask her like "he's definitely super dehydrated he hasn't drank anything from all the seizures maybe he needs an IV?" She was like hmm idk I'll check. Then the front desk lady calls me and was like he's ready for you. They did nothing, they made the situation worse, and they were the most insensitive unprofessional vet office I've ever come into contact with. Don't take your pet here. read more

Called first the woman was friendly. This was around 1230pm . Said to come in whenever. I went there and there was really no one waiting in the waiting room except for one person. Seemed like the wait time was way too long. They don't let you go back with your animal why they do God knows what. Anyway the staff seemed pretty nice/ caring but I did not like the wait time considering they were not actually doing anything except vitals . Was surprised that they didn't have an actual guesstimate on what prices were for testing considering they do this every day they should know. They would leave and come back 10-20 minutes later. Three stars for wait time meaning from the time I got there til the time I left was longer in my opinion than it should have been. If I would have proceeded with testing I would have waited even longer. No one wants to wait when their pet is sick and/or dying. Also the animal should have been given a thorough examination. I would NOT recommend this "EMERGENCY" clinic to anyone. I took my baby boy there to have a surgery on May 1st 2020. He was admitted and I was IMMEDIATELY asked how I was planning on paying for this surgery he was going to have. (all about the money i'd say). I called many times to check on him and was told "he was not eating" and "well its normal for animals to not eat for many days due to the stress and maybe the pain too." My kitty came home and the site of surgery looked very good. The only thing wrong was i thought he had some sort of matted glue on his tail? Well that was not the case. He had to go back to the clinic to get the stitches removed and I mentioned the "glue" like sticky stuff on his tail.The vet tech came out and told me they did shave down part of his tail and PEELED the scabs off of it because they NEEDED to see if it was healthy flesh under the scab. Gave me a antibiotic to give him orally and continue to keep cone on him for 1 more week. Well 2 days rolled by and his tail got super hard and no movement at the tip. I called my normal vet to make an appointment for rabies and distemper and to check his tail and when they did it was an automatic "what happened to his tail?" it needs to be amputated. Well..i told them what the VREC told me it "could" have been. They told me I slammed it in a door!!!!! HAHA not possible because he was locked in a LARGE dog crate for the 10 days after his surgery and had ALL eyes on him. My vet said she is 95% sure she knows what happened to his tail. She is very positive VREC tied the tail too tight during the surgery causing loss of oxygen in the tail if you will. VREC told my vet they prescribed the medication after the stitches from surgery were taken out bc they thought i was worried about the CLOSED INCISION! DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE? VREC also claims that they didn't even know about the tail wound! How does that happen when they shaved it ans peeled the small scab off in the first place. I am NOT responsible for this negligent act, and I am being charged to have the tail amputated. VREC wont take any responsibility. I am absolutely fed up. I do NOT recommend coming here at all. PLEASE read this and consider before making any decisions about your pets based on their recommendations!! PLEASE! I rushed my 6 year old Bernese Mountain Dog to VREC the first Sunday of May. He was hunched over, breathing heavily, and had pale gums. He was taken back quickly and after consenting to blood work and radiographs, I received a call from the doctor (due to COVID you have to wait in the parking lot - totally understandable). The doctor told me my boy had been bleeding internally and they identified a mass on his spleen. He said there was a 95% chance this was a very aggressive form of cancer called Hermangiosarcoma. He informed me that they could do surgery to remove the spleen, but that the surgery is followed by an "awful recovery" for dogs...and once removed he would die a "horrendous death" at the hands of the cancer within weeks or months. He said the best thing I could do for my boy was to let him go right then. I couldn't think straight or even breathe for that matter as my entire world fell out from under me. I asked to have a few moments to think. After a few minutes, I asked my brother to please call and speak to the vet to make sure I was understanding things correctly given my current state. My brother called and confirmed that I was correct - if I chose surgery the vet felt I would be causing my dog "unnecessary suffering" and that decision would be based on my own "selfish" desires to keep my dog alive. He felt what was best for my dog was to be put to sleep right then and there. I sat there and sobbed and sobbed because I felt I needed to put him to sleep because I would NEVER, EVER want to cause him any pain or suffering, no matter how much it would have killed me to let him go. Luckily I spoke to a friend and reached out to those I work with in a Bernese Rescue...and then brought my dog home with a Chinese Herb that stops/prevents internal bleeding. The next day, I drove him to Cornell University and had his spleen removed. The spleen was sent out for testing and I got the results a week later - NOT CANCER!!!! This means the removal of the spleen was curative and no further action is needed. In addition, the recovery from surgery - that the doctor at VREC informed me would cause "unnecessary suffering" was a breeze for my dog. The hardest part was making him rest because he wanted to be his normal, goofy vibrant self. He had no idea he had surgery and did not appear to suffer in any way. After the initial pure joy I felt at receiving the news that this was not cancer, I became physically ill thinking how close I was to saying goodbye to my baby at VREC because the doctor made me feel that is what was best for my best friend. I would have allowed him to rob my dog of years of his life. Since sharing this with friends, family, and coworkers, I have heard many similar stories. I always felt blessed to have VREC so close to home...but now I fear many individuals have sat there, like me, and chose to put their babies to sleep because they believed they were doing what was best for them. Maybe in some instances that was the right choice...but as you can see in my case...it would have been a giant mistake. As a side note...money was never a concern or thought of mine. But I would like to say that I spent $1,500 for the hour my dog was in there getting tested. I only spent slightly more than that for his two-night stay, complete surgery, and all the same tests at Cornell University. PLEASE, if you have to go to VREC to stabilize your pet during an emergency....get a second opinion if you are put in a situation where they recommend euthanasia. Also, if you elect surgery, consider driving the hour and forty minutes to get to Cornell University. They provide top-notch care, have excellent facilities...and are much cheaper than VREC. read more

I brought my dog in for an exam before I went away on vacation because she seem to be having a little back pain. She walked into the vets office wagging her tail and acting like nothing was wrong I almost turned around and took her back home. She was diagnosed with a stage 1 IVDD condition .. they did bloodwork put on pain medicine and an anti-inflammatory... my dog wass there for three hours. I picked her up (carried her out) and took her home .. within one hour my dog was paralyzed and could no longer walk! I called them back and because it was the weekend there was not a doctor there that can see my paralyzed dog. I waited until Monday and took her to my own veterinarian. She's completely paralyzed and is now in stage 4 of IVDD!! After looking at the meds that were prescribed to my dog 100 mg of gabapentin for a 5.6 pound dog was way too much she lowered her dosage to 25 mg gave her a steroid shot and if she does not improve in two days my dog is going to have to be euthanized! I never thought in 1 million years that going to the veterinary office for an emergency was going to result in death of my dog because of them manhandling my dog during an exam! Needless to say I did not go on vacation because they paralyzed my dog, I will never ever take any animal including a Bird to this facility read more

Recently started to go VEAR after being completely dissatisfied with previous vet. My dog was diagnosed with cancer and had 1 surgery(not here). His cancer came back, then eventually he got mouth cancer(horrible). Previous vet was very relaxed, uncaring about whole situation. They had expressed no real concern about our needs. He was basically my wife's forth child. We tried VEAR to see if there was any hope for him. Unfortunately there was no cure for him and he didn't have long to live. The vet and staff were very compassionate. We had to return shortly after the first visit due to the rapid progression of the cancer. This visit was the absolute worst part of having a dog, we decided it was time to put him to sleep. The staff was so considerate, caring and helpful. I see other reviews on here about complaints of pricing. I was shown the "high" and "low" of charges. It was actually much less than they thought it might be. I wasn't really concerned this at time, just needed their services. We are overall very pleased of their handling and professionalism in our time of need. I don't believe this would be our primary vet in the future, but if an emergency arises or we need a second opinion, we would return without a doubt. read more

Was in here with my 6 year old beagle, they met me at the door, within 5 minutes they took my pup in, they said he had a fever and said the vet would be right with me, well 4 hours later they took us in with no warning that maybe they were busy and it would be a wait, I do understand that the most severe cases go first but I never had anyone acknowledge me most of the 4 hours. Our fur babies are our family members too, if these people took their child to the er and had to wait for a sniffle they would be irate! Stay away from this place..terrible terrible place. Walked in late on a Sunday night with our puppy. We were very worried when he started displaying unusual behaviors and symptoms that lasted all day. Upon arrival, our boy was taken back very quickly for an exam. They came out and told us that everything was fine and we were free to go at no charge. Everyone from the receptionist to the vet techs were a pleasure to deal with. This was very nice of them to do the exam at no charge, most vets I've been to charge a fee just to enter the facility! Very impressed and grateful to have been taken care of by such nice people. read more

My 13-year-old miniature pinscher suddenly experienced a severely labored breathing issue during a recent visit with family in Clarks Summit. We were 4 hours away from our usual veterinarian in Delaware. My Google search resulted in a call to the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center, where we were treated with kindness, compassion and an excellent evaluation by Dr. Olivia Yaple. I have put two dogs down at this center. The first experience was 5+ years ago and at that time, I saw Dr Lloyd for the process. She was very kind and empathetic. Recently, we went there to put another dog down. There were mostly very respectful and nice, but Dr. Payne carried out the procedure and did not explain what he was doing. This made it a little confusing for us with our dog for her final moments. It just felt like he was rushing. I didn't expect him to spend an hour with us, but an extra minute would have been greatly appreciated. Upon picking up the dog's ashes this most recent time, I walked into the lobby (I was the only person there) and the person at the reception desk (Susan) asked me how she could help me. I responded and before I could get my whole sentence out, the phone rang and she interrupted me while she took the phone call. She got done, asked me again. I told her again why I was there. I started to get choked up and Susan continued to ask me questions. My girlfriend and I have one account and I couldn't remember if it was under her name or mine. I answered every question she asked me with both my girlfriend and I's information. Susan seemed to be slightly agitated with my answers and just asked me for my license. She reviewed it thoroughly, wordlessly gave it back, and went to the back room to get the ashes. I could see her putting things together and she looked like she was struggling and moving a lot of stuff around. Another employee then came over and helped her. She came back out and handed the ashes to me with a very flat "sorry for your loss." Again, some employees we interacted with here were great, but the bad/uncaring ones made our experience even worse than it had to be. read more

Not happy with this vet service. Promised a bill of $550. Then when we picked up cat, they billed over $960. We agreed to pay $678. They released cat and then billed the other $250ish again. Called and sent letters to a 92 year old man. read more
