Our dog was diagnosed with urethral stones on Friday, but he had been suffering since the Saturday before. We initially thought it was a simple bladder infection and started antibiotics, but when that didn't work, we went back to the vet and discovered it was much more serious. They attempted to place a catheter, but it was unsuccessful, and we were referred out for surgery. I started calling everywhere, trying to find help. The quotes we received ranged anywhere from $8,600 to $15,000, which was overwhelming and honestly heartbreaking. After leaving the SPCA (where the front desk -- not the veterinarian -- suggested another option), we were told to go to VEG ER for Pets. From the moment we arrived, Tracy, Simon, Dr Lena, and the staff made the experience completely different. We were met with nothing but empathy, support, and clear communication. The staff, technicians, and doctors took the time to thoroughly explain everything -- our options, the risks, and what to expect. There was no pressure, just genuine care and transparency. As I write this, my baby is receiving the treatment he needs -- at a cost we can actually afford. I truly can't thank the team enough. And a special thank you to Arianna at the SPCA for pointing us in the right direction -- because of that recommendation, our dog made it through the weekend. If you are looking for a place to bring your cat in for an emergency, stay far away from here, as the prices are exorbitant and the customer service is atrocious. Simon is absolutely terrible, does not know anything about customer service and is completely incompetent and rude. After confirming potential emergency plans over the phone and via email with another member of their team for an upcoming trip, when my cat would be in the care of a sitter, I called back to confirm such plans 12 days later. Simon stated a different plan to me than was stated to me over the phone by another representative and was extremely rude. He claimed I was provided wrong information by the previous representative (he never apologized though!), and left me in an uncertain position of whether my cat would even be cared for if she was brought in by the sitter during an upcoming international trip to Eastern Europe! I was/am appalled! There was NO accountability for the misinformation he said was provided me almost 2 weeks prior. So, I was two days away from a trip to a developing nation, and left with no plan, and no indication from them that they would expedite the issue to resolve it. I brought my cat here on one previous occasion, and was charged an exorbitant amount to induce vomiting after my cat swallowed a small string. After this most recent horrible interaction and lack of follow-through by VEG (with Simon and the manager), I will never bring my cat here again. Nor do I want to interact with them in any capacity. This was by far the worst experience of veterinary care in more than 20 years of having cats. I promptly called MedVet Mountain View, spoke to a wonderfully helpful woman, and was able to secure my emergency travel plans for my cat in less than 5 minutes. My dumb cat ate a Parmesan cheese packet from a pizza shop and we rushed to this emergency vet at like 3:30AM after a quick call with their on call staff. The first thing I noticed was that the building has an open floor plan. You walk in, it's very bright, and you see a bunch of examination tables all over the room, with some chairs next to them. There were some rooms spread out along the sides for Xray, private exam rooms etc but you will most likely be seen out in the open! The staff was very kind and upfront about costs and gave us an estimated bill before starting any work. We took an X-ray (didn't see much) and then they gave the medication to induce vomiting. It took awhile and we weren't sure it was going to work but sure enough my cat threw up everything and lo and behold the Parmesan cheese packet was found, mostly intact in three pieces. The staff gave the medication to reverse the vomiting effect and then after some time we were able to go home. The cat was pretty much back to normal when we got home! We were happy with the prompt and kind service and would recommend this emergency vet! It's probably not going to be cheap (our bill was like $800) but an emergency surgery would have been far worse! read more

As a panicked dog mom who needed emergency services ASAP, I am so glad I went to VEG. Their specialty is not only providing emergency services, but having you as an owner be involved with your pet during an unsettling emergency. You don't see your pet disappear into the back rooms, but instead, you are allowed to be with your pet through all steps of the process - reducing anxiety for both you and your animal. I wish more vets operated like this! My dog came in after ingesting something she shouldn't have and we received medical attention right away. The nurses induced vomiting quickly, right in the waiting room, and I was glad they handled it fast. They are 100% transparent about all costs and always provide you with an estimate before doing anything to your pet. First time here with my mom, I came here because of the reviews on google and yelp compared to other ER vets. I went to their website for more information about their service. They mentioned that vet care starts the moment you walk through the door. There's no waiting for "wondering in a lobby." So I assume is get checked, find medication, then leave. But it was NOT. Basically, I went for a walk with my dogs, and there was an accident on our walking route with this PGE sewer thing, my shihtzu got her front paw hurt from it. I carried her back to the house, blood dripped on my sleeve and the floor. I went to this ER around 5 pm. They check her in, had us wait at the lobby. Waited 30 mins, then another ER patient came, then another ER patient 30 mins after. We didn't get checked until 7 pm.... that's 2 hours of waiting. It was just me and this lady with her pregnant dog waiting over 2 hours. It just felt like they checked us in, then had us "wait" for an incoming emergency patient to happen at the door. Which they could have used that "downtime/waiting" to check my dog's paw. At 6:30 pm they told us they would give her pain meds that would take 15 mins to kick in, they had us wait 10-15 mins later, My mom and I were like, "what are we waiting for?" I approached their desk and asked, I thought you guys were going to give her pain meds, right? We didn't even get it if you're unaware. We were definitely "wondering in a lobby." We did see atleast 2 ER patients who were rushed immediately during our 2-hour wait, who had called in prior to us waiting 30-45 mins when we came in. 7 pm, they shaved her paw, then recommended an X-ray that takes 30 mins, then wait another 1-2 hours for the results. Again, it was waiting 2 hours, wondering what was happening behind the scenes because it was super quiet, they were dealing with two other dogs and the cat (which I have alot of empathy for), but 2 hours? I thought it was more of a first-come because "care starts the moment you walk in," but Dr sparks said they are an emergency vet and it is whichever pet needs emergency. Which is very, very reasonable, but waiting for 30-45 mins for an emergency to come before looking at Lucky's quick exam was NOT reasonable. They need to do better with Time management.... at least everyone was nice, so an extra star. We ended up officially out of the place at 9pm because we had to come back. They checked us in at 7pm. My mom and I went home because we needed to feed the other dog at home. Especially if they told us is another 1-2 hours wait. So finally they called us at 8:30pm to come back pick up my shihtzu. From 5pm to 9:30pm....4.5 hours!! This is the first ER experience that I waited 2 hours when the place was super quiet and didn't seem busy to have us wait... 2.... hours... read more

I want to share my experience with the emergency veterinary team in Palo Alto because they helped me through one of the scariest moments of my life with my emotional support animal, and I will never forget their kindness. My dog was showing signs of poisoning, and I rushed in absolutely terrified. From the moment we walked through the door, the entire staff treated us with a level of compassion, gentleness, and calm I've never experienced at any veterinary clinic -- emergency or otherwise. They didn't just care for my dog; they cared for me too. They understood that she is my ESA and that her health is directly tied to my own safety and wellbeing. They spoke softly, explained every step, and kept both of us grounded through something overwhelming. They moved quickly but never made me feel rushed. They were professional but incredibly warm. And they treated my dog like she was the most important patient in the world. The doctors were thorough, thoughtful, and reassuring. The techs were loving, attentive, and patient. Every person in the building seemed to operate with the same incredible blend of skill and kindness. I've been to many vets over the years, and I have never experienced a place with this much heart. They don't just treat animals -- they support families, especially those of us who rely on our animals for emotional stability and medical needs. My dog left feeling safe and cared for, and so did I. My dog was dealing with abscess in his anal gland I couldn't wait for normal vet hours. I called in around 4am Dr. Anmol Mangat set proper expectations and was very transparent on what to expect when we came in. Once we arrived I was able to stay with my dog during the process which was very nice. The staff and Dr. Mangat were very kind and answered all my questions during the process which helped me better understand what was going on which really helped set my mind at ease during the visit. Lucy, the lady that runs Whis-Purr Rescue referred me to this place because Mango's potential adopter is in Palo Alto. Mango has been through a lot. He was abandoned by the freeway in South San Jose, trapped and fixed, and went to 2 homes before he came to me. It was because I did not want him to be released back. I took him in to learn about him before I feel I know him enough to start posting about him. I have 4 cats and 1 kitten, so I knew I could not adopt him but I was hoping his forever home is out there. Last Sunday he spent the night at this potential adopter's place but was returned to me Monday night. The transporting and stress caused him to get sick. He was lethargic and was sneezing. He seemed to have lost his appetite, too. I was at work and offered to take him right then and there because if it's anything concerning, I'd rather get it addressed immediately so he can be on the mend instead of waiting. I was prepared to be responsible for the vet bill because I took him in and the potential adopters did not adopt him yet. It is not right to have them be responsible. Not only that, I care and love this guy so much that covering this was something I did not think twice about doing. The open space was clean and nearly immaculate. If you want water, coffee, tea, chips, or cookies... they have it! We were brought into their waiting/examining room. We were seen rather quickly but the process to get his antibiotics was long. It took nearly an hour for it. I had to come out to ask for status 2-3x because I still had to drop them off and drive back to San Jose to pickup Gavin from school. I ended up being extremely late for Gavin but thankfully my daughter was able to help me yesterday. I did not get back home till nearly 4:15PM (he gets out at 3:25PM). Staff were very patient. They were very gentle and kind to Mango. They open 24/7. Parking is plentiful. A big shoutout and love for Whis-Purr Rescue (Lucy) for sponsoring the bill. Mango is not their rescue cat but they're helping me because they care about Mango, too. I am so lucky to have found Whis-Purr because I fostered Barley and Ian whom were just adopted this past Sunday and for Lucy for recommending this place because they are fast and the place is clean. The wait is long for me only because I am a single parent running from one thing to another. Thank you for the antibiotics! Mango is eating and is up and about a bit now! read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I took my dog there last year with a major eye issue. They tended to her with care and diligence. A year later when she had a similar problem, I was able to communicate with the vet that was on who gave me advice over email, asked for photos, etc. Luckily I was able to get in with my own vet tomorrow in San Francisco, but know if I was ever in Palo Alto again when I have an urgent issue, I'll go there for sure. It's an open floor plan but they had a private room set up for me since I brought in a small critter, my little pet rat. My situation wasn't as dire as some of the patients coming in at the same time-- even amongst all that I was in and out in about an hour. Long story short, I took my dog here when our regular vet didn't have the scope to be able to look up her nostrils when she was sneezing excessively. I knew the procedure was going to be expensive, but the Dr was able to give me an estimate over the phone and the total price came in a little below that estimate. We got triaged and vital signs immediately . The Vet on call evaluated my dog ( a lab mix ), which had bloody stool , and giving us differential diagnosis , as well as a range of work up , from observation to xray , ultrasound , blood test , etc . We opted for observation as her vitals are normal and her appetite is good , her exam is reassuring , she seems active and herself . We got probiotic prescriptions . We had to take a feral kitty into emergency care. She had a foxtail under the upper lid of her eye. The staff and Dr. Sarah were wonderful. They were able to care for her without sedation and removed the foxtail. Sent us home with meds for a week. We went back and Dr. Ferguson took care of our kitty 50 50 for a recheck. She was all healed and ready to be released back into her colony. They are kind, caring, wonderful staff and Dr.'s. They don't gauge with prices. The helped keep the price down for us since they were able to handle 50 50 without sedation. I've been to Med Vet in Mountain View. They have good Dr's but the staff tends to be snooty. It was the complete opposite at VEG ER. They are reasonable with their pricing. They did not even charge us for the recheck. DR. Ferguson said it only took two minutes. It shows their compassion, their kindness and their character. We were SHOCKED!! We highly recommend this facility for all the reasons we mentioned above. GREAT CARE! GREAT DOCTORS! GREAT TEAM! Palo Alto VEG - A Disappointing Experience I highly do not recommend the VEG in Palo Alto if you're looking for quality emergency vet care in the Bay Area. If you are willing to drive further I strongly suggest going to their other location San Ramon VEG** instead (see my review there for a positive experience). Quick disclaimer: I normally don't write negative reviews, but this was my breaking point. If you look at my Yelp history, you'll see that I only leave positive reviews for businesses. I'm writing this because people deserve to know what they're walking into. If you must go to Palo Alto VEG, I highly recommend requesting Dr. Raul or Dr. Andrew. That being said, I want to give credit where it's due Dr. Raul and Dr. Andrew and nurses were amazing. Unfortunately, I didn't encounter them until my 5th and last visit here, but when I did, they took the time to listen, review my cat's medical history, and provide proper care. They were the only reason I didn't completely write off this location sooner. Now, onto the real issue: DR. TIPPY ADAMS If she is on call, I strongly recommend not bringing your pet here. My experience with her was nothing short of a nightmare. She was condescending, dismissive, and unprofessional. I brought my cat in less than 24 hours after surgery, done by another doctor at this very location, because he was vomiting. Dr. Adams barely examined him, she didn't even touch him for more than a minute, and immediately recommended a simple injection. What bothered me most was that she had already diagnosed this over the phone before even seeing him in person. If that was the case, why have me drive all the way here just to charge a $225 emergency fee for a one-minute glance? I understand that emergency vets have emergency fees, but my cat had just had surgery here less than 24 hours ago he was an existing patient! I tried explaining this to her, hoping for understanding, but instead, I was met with cold, dismissive responses. She kept repeating that this was "standard procedure" without acknowledging how ridiculous it was in this specific case, literally was here 24 hours ago and paid thousand for his surgery. The worst part? She outright lied in my pet's medical summary. She wrote that my cat was vomiting because I had "switched his diet," when in reality, **Dr. Tanya the vet who performed his surgery--was the one who prescribed the diet change. If Dr. Adams had actually read the patient chart, she would have known this instead of making false claims and placing the blame on me as the owner. To make things worse, when I asked simple questions about my cat's condition, she dismissed me, walked away, and sat at her desk instead of addressing my concerns, And the clinic was completely empty that day! There was no excuse for her to act so indifferent. This entire experience was extremely unprofessional and uncalled for. It was truly a distasteful experience. I hope in the future she will show even a fraction of the care and professionalism that Dr. Raul and Dr. Andrew and even the nurses have towards animals and their patients. Overall, I strongly advise against bringing your pet here, especially if Dr. Tippy Adams is on duty. If you truly care about your pet's well-being, this is not the vet to trust. Her approach is money-driven rather than patient-focused and she does not prioritize the proper care that a sick animal deserves. I would never feel comfortable leaving my pet in her hands. We had an emergency with our dog when he got into a glass peanut butter jar, broke the bottom, and started licking it. We were worried not just about the cuts in his mouth, but also about the possibility that he had ingested glass. Thankfully, VEG is less than 10 minutes from our house, and in an emergency, every minute counts. From the moment we walked in, the staff had an incredibly calm and reassuring presence. The nurses were not only attentive and gentle with our dog but also showed such compassion to the other animals in their care, including a stray cat that had been hit by a car. They took that cat in and gave it the best possible care, even though no owner was present. It really spoke volumes about the kind of people who work here. We were seen by Dr. Fahey, who was both kind and clearly very competent. Everyone we encountered was professional, caring, and focused on doing what was best for our pet. They defaulted to the least invasive care option, which was so important to us. It made us feel like they were putting our dog's well-being above all else, not just pushing unnecessary procedures. Another thing we appreciated was the open floor plan. We were able to stay with our dog the whole time, including during his X-rays. He kept eye contact with us through the window, and we could see how much he needed that comfort. This setup made a scary situation so much more manageable. They also have an onsite operating room, quarantine space, and private rooms for pets that wouldn't be appropriate to have in the open floor plan. The cost was in line with what we've paid for urgent care at our primary care vet; reasonable for an emergency visit, especially considering the level of care and compassion we received. They clearly have top of the line equipment and all the medical gear needed for emergency situations. They also have enough providers and medical stations so that no pet has to wait too long for care. All in all, it was the best possible experience in a really difficult moment. We're incredibly grateful for the team at VEG and wouldn't hesitate to return in an emergency (though we hope we don't have to!). read more

Goose for Thanksgiving? Brought our 2.5 month old Frenchie named Goose to VEG (Palo Alto) for emergency treatment. He had a prolapsed rectum and was hurting whenever he relieve himself. Initially, we took Baby Goose to one vet in Union City and gave him ONLY A WEEK TO LIVE! Seeing how Goose struggled after couple of days, we decided to bring him to VEG. He was seen by Dr. Sharday, who also gave him a surgery he required. After the procedure, little Goose was sent home to recover. 10 days fast forward, on Thanksgiving Day, we had to bring Goose again. This is NOT an error by VEG, instead, it was due to us inadvertently giving him one wrong meal/ diet that caused Goose' initial prolapsed rectum to reoccur. Although it was a Thanksgiving holiday at 3:30 am, we needed to bring him back and was admitted ASAP for his 2nd procedure. Many thanks to Rachel, Jocelyn, and another nice Lady, and most especially to young Dr. Fahey who helped Baby Goose for his 2nd surgery. Now recovering, Little Goose is back to his old rambunctious self again. In our book, VEG Palo Alto & their "Rock-Star" staffs all deserve 101 stars! read more

I was here last year for my bunny who went into stasis, they said they had a bunny doctor, I spent my weekend there back and forth and they still even help her. They don't give gut motility drugs here, as it's corporate owned, and think they don't believe in them. The second time I went in, I opted for x-rays, and the doctor said that it looked like she had bladder sludge, and had to wait for the x-ray tech to look at the x-rays, she said that my bunny might need surgery for the bladder sludge, but it ended up being where she got spayed. They also tried to get IV in her two little front paws they shaved her and we spent half the day waiting for somebody to come give her get IV it didn't work so at that point, I decided to leave and go back home and go to our other emergency doctor that was available. I don't recommend this place at all. If you have an a bunny I've heard that other Veg are better and have bunny doctors but not this one. read more

I can't recommend this place enough! Last week, our pup had undergone a simple routine surgery at his normal vet but had complications coming out of it. His heart rate went down and he was crashing when we brought him into VEG. Immediately, they helped us bring him in, let us stay with him and kept us in the loop the whole time of everything they were doing. Anytime there is a pet emergency, it is always scary for the parents as well as the animals and I felt so so cared for the entire time. We also have a second pup that they him come in with us. Since we had to stay most of the night and drove down from SF, there was even a room with a pull out bed that we could nap on while our dog was recovering. Pillows, blankets, dog bowls etc! Thank you to the wonderful team who take care of Knuckles and let him be your first patient at this location! We are forever grateful for you saving him. :) read more

Just by the way VEG answers the phone and are truly concerned and want to help, I'd recommend it. 10/10. I called in this morning to ask if they have a cardiologist, they do not. But the lady was truly exceptional in providing assistance to a cardiologist. I have had an appointment booked with Sage in Redwood City since last month and the appointment is not until next month. The way they answer the phone and treat their clients is actually appalling. With VEGs recommendation I was able to get a cardiology appointment tomorrow. Extremely grateful. read more

We are very lucky as a community that VEG is available. My twelve-year-old black lab was having heart failure, and her various symptoms compelled me to get to VEG instead of waiting for my regular vet (which was booking several weeks out). I spoke to a knowledgeable doctor on the phone, who told me I should bring the dog in at once. Over a couple of hours, the kind staff took excellent care of her and explained very thoroughly to me everything that was happening. If I had not taken her in, she probably even be alive this morning, and even though her condition probably doesn't give her very much time, I'm grateful she's still here. I've had so many pets throughout my life, and many experiences with veterinarian offices to go with it. I always believed the universal defining factor of all vet hospitals was widespread BURNOUT. Levels of experience, knowledge, customer service, cost, sincerity, all vary widely. But not burnout. Not at VEG. This review is specifically for Dr. Tanya. We were so lucky to have her take care of our sweet dog child in her final days. Dr. Tanya set a whole new standard of my expectations of vets. My family and I were (and still are) deeply traumatized after another vet at a different clinic, made a fatal mistake during surgery, causing her a month of suffering, which ultimately lead to her death. This left us all extremely distrusting and feed up with vets in general. Im so thankful i was able to have my trust restored by Dr. Tanya. She went above and beyond, easing our fur baby suffering. What really sticks with me is the 2nd night of our dogs hospitalization, me and my mom were sitting in a circle around our dog, and Dr. Tanya came over to talk to us and as sick as our dog was, Sochi leaned into Dr. Tanya and laid her head on her. My dog has always hated vets, usually looking to us for comfort, so seeing my dog, as sick and uncomfortable as she was, actually liked and created a bond with the Dr. Tanya while we were gone, was very comforting. If you have a sick or dying animaI, but are hesitate because you think emergency vet care is too expensive, i strongly urge you to just GO TO VEG. Literally shocked by how affordable they made it. Exceptional, compassionate, and practical. The professionals at VEG Palo Alto are truly special people. They took excellent care of my cat and got us a bit more time with him, which was everything for my family. The open space environment and the ability to stay with your pet is unique and brings a great measure of comfort all around. Having been through losing a pet twice in two years, there are a few things I've learned the hard way. 1. Don't wait. If your pet seems sick, get help right away. Don't engage in denial or magical thinking. Waiting will cost more, not less. Go. 2. Get pet insurance if you can afford it. It provides peace of mind and gives you more choices in an emergency. 3. Be kind to the vet and techs caring for your pet. If they ask you to be succicient in describing your pet's issue, it's because they are trying to triage to determine how urgent the situation is. They have been caring for pets, dealing with stressed and worried owners, making life and death decisions, and having to deliver tough news all day long. Bring a warm, kind heart, and remember you are one of many. The big room is full of love, compassion, and fear. Bring your best self. Show up with kindness so the staff have the emotional energy to do the same for you, your pet, and everyone else needing help. I was on-site for almost 16 hours. Most pet owners were nice but one or two were not. Seeing the employees give their whole heart all day long only to be mistreated was just plain sad. Don't be that person. Nobody needs that. We were impressed with their care for our family's beloved dog during a very tough time, even though the outcome was sad. Our dog had been acting lethargic and the VEG doctor ordered X-rays and found widespread metastatic cancer. He looked up some papers on this cancer type and told us that even with treatment the prognosis was only a few weeks, so we decided to have him euthanized. The staff were compassionate, and we were given a private room with lots of space so we could spend some time with our dog prior to the drugs being given. Everyone was crying afterwards including the doctor which we were really touched by, the staff clearly truly care about the animals which is so important. Not a fan of ANY corporate emergency or general practice vet. We're getting to a place where attempting to find a non-corporate vet is difficult, especially in an emergency (SAGE, Adobe, VEG, etc.) And...when there's no vet open, sometimes you have to bite the bullet. The number of suggested/required tests, etc., for a cat with a swollen paw, was ridiculous. And $1,100 later, a soak in Epsom salts and an antibiotic were all he needed. The corporate vet trend is frightening, and I'd go as far as to say dangerous. People who simply cannot afford these ridiculous go-arounds may not get care for their beloved pets, and that is horrible. read more

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the incredible care my pet and I received at Veterinary Emergency Group. I called early in the morning to explain my situation, and unlike other clinics that often refuse to provide any guidance over the phone, they listened attentively and recommended that I bring my pet in. Which already put me at ease. That level of compassion and support before even arriving was a huge green flag for me. When we arrived around 5 AM, we were seen relatively quick, and throughout the entire visit, the staff was exceptionally kind and attentive. I was feeling overwhelmed and distressed, they immediately offered me coffee, snacks, and water. Simple gestures that made a huge difference in that moment. Dr. Fahey and her team were simply amazing, patient, professional, and incredibly caring. They made sure both my pet and I felt comfortable and informed the entire time. I was also very impressed by the little thoughtful touches around the facility, like having toothbrushes, toothpaste, and personal care items available in the bathrooms. It really shows how much they care about the well-being of not only our pets but also the owners during stressful moments. Under the circumstances, I had an outstanding experience. Sorry to have to give you guys a low review, but we felt let down. I appreciate that we had the option to choose treatments, so there was full disclosure on what we'd be charged. But for us, the doctor chose not to perform the care for our cat that we had hoped for. And the vet tech was rushed, talked with us in a fast stressed out manner, and should have been much more gentler with our cat. read more

I have nothing negative to say about the staff at VEG!! They were the only ones I called that would give me an honest answer about a stray kitty that adopted me about 6 months ago. (The cat distribution system chose me!) Dr. Spark was very open and honest about the severity of my Oreo's diagnosis. She even went as far to ask a friend a second opinion. We continued with the surgery and they even neutered him so he's not running the streets! The care and compassion delivered by this place is unmeasurable. I cannot remember the nurses name that took us in initially but she was also so sweet, calm, and understanding of my emotions! Rachel I believe was her name was the nurse who discharged my Oreo. She went through every piece of paper and gave a full explanation of how to administer medication, care for my Oreo, and what the next steps were. She answered every question I had about being a new cat owner and how to give this little guy the best life he could have. Thank you VEG for being such an amazing group!! Our regular vet couldn't see our Kenobi, whose little eye was swollen shut and very red. After reading reviews we bravely went to this new vet er. I'm so happy we did! Everyone was immediately attentive and helpful. While Completing intake, The Doc even quickly assessed to see the severity of the situation. The surroundings are clean & organized. Exam tables are out in the open, which felt great because we knew what was going on at all times. I think the staff and doctor really care AND are intelligent! I experienced this through their compassion and problem solving of how to best help our Cavalier. He is doing really well today! My only critique would be that VEG could use another doc for Mondays. That poor doc was amazingly calm and thoughtful despite the stressful situations of many animals coming in simultaneously with varying illnesses and emergencies. Two of those animals were in critical condition! This meant that our visit took longer than it should have, so doc could attend to the very seriously ill dog and cat. It was NOT the fault of the people working there. They communicated everything very well. Perhaps management hire another vet to balance the possible hectic days. read more

They are completely incompetent to birds. I brought a bird that was stable at time of arrival in for injury's that they could have intervened immediately and likley helped. But instead left me in a waiting room while they let her crash and it was to late. read more

Such an amazing facility everything from the doctors to the staff they are so great, polite and caring and compassionate for you and your pet. I was extremely upset and distraught when my pet had a severe allergic reaction and they explained everything to me and took amazing care of my pet and made him so much better and eased all of my worries and stress. They also don't try to overcharge for anything which is amazing for someone who is on a budget. Highly recommend this facility for your pet. read more

I first saw the VEG sign on El Camino soon after it opened, and just tucked that information away for a rainy day. We have four pets (two dogs, two cats) and we're always looking for resources when we need them. When Bobo, our Maine Coon's nose started bleeding (don't google cat nose bleed...it's not good :( , that's when VEG's sign and location popped into my head and then I saw they had 5 Yelp stars, so off we went. True to their promise, I was greeted at the door and triaged immediately. I loved the open area, always being with my pet, and also being placed in a room to ease my cat's anxiety, because she wanted to make a run for it :) VEG's part of our story was the best it could be in that they did blood work (which was valuable to the follow-up doctors), checked in to see how Bobo was doing, gave us some pills to do at home and then offered to give them to her if we just drove her back over (which we did), the Dr said we needed to get a CT scan and she called another Emergency Vet to help us get in sooner, and they had charging cords and a space heater :) Definitely our preferred emergency pet clinic now !!! read more

On November 30, 2025 my dog "Shadow" was literally dying in my arms. I called so many ER Vet Hospitals & all they wanted was to drain me for money. All I needed was to put him to rest from aggressive cancer. No one would help me. Finally, Lap of Love referred me to VEG in Palo Alto. I am so grateful. VEG in Pali were extremely helpful, compassionate, caring and willing to take him in immediately. No questions, no history, no extreme fees. When we got there, there was a quiet room waiting for us. They let us have as much time as we needed with him before the procedure started. Every member of the Sunday evening staff, Steph, Dr Hyder, Dr Magnet & the doctor who helped put him to rest. I'm so sorry that i forgot your name. Were so loving & there for us (Shadow, myself & my son) for the moment I called. I am forever grateful & thankful to you all. Shadow was safe & comfortable. For not knowing any of you. He showed you love in return for helping him. Its only been 8 days & yesterday I received a call that Shadow remains were available for pick up.
