American Legion Post 507…read more People showed up in their dancing duds, ready to Lindy Hop, Charleston, Boogie Woogie, you name it...or, just relax and listen to the best music you'll find 'round these parts. This night happened to feature The Ladd McIntosh Big Band. 19 ace musicians lead by Ladd plus the stunning Nina Herzog on vocals for a few selections. I got the feeling, from the very first notes, that this band is a well-oiled jazz/big band machine, cranking out wicked cool, edgy and clever originals - plus super inventive arrangements of well-known classics. All this while the dancers work their magic. Swing, baby! The curator/hostess Wende is remarkably energetic; personally seeing to everyone's happiness while managing technical aspects of the evening - and even managing to dance a few numbers as well. There's a serviceable bar with good pours for a fair price plus a few beers on tap. You'll find a pool table and sports on the TVs there too. Our admission price ($25) included charcuterie and desserts that was a cool added touch. Epic night!

The lower level has a full bar and a kitchen and a pool table and lots of tables and chairs. The upper level has a stage with a large open area and plenty of tables and chairs that can be arranged to your choice. There is also a small bar up there. The parking lot is large, but a lot of people come here so if you're showing up late you may have to find parking on the street. The area upstairs can be rented for a fee and I have gone to a wedding reception there and had a great time and met some nice people there. I highly recommend this place.

Their Oktoberfest party is off the hook, and also open to the public. Prices are inexpensive, and they do a lot for the community, so consider joining if you can.

I was impressed with all their innovations and creativity with new events, fundraisers, and trying to reopen which are all challenging now. Great place to rent if you have a specific look for your party. It's old, it has its challenges…read morelike the large mirror on the wall and the old heaters hanging. The person in charge,Jesse is easy to work with. Not a lot of restrictions like other venues. You don't have to have a license caterer or security guards. Venue insurance is up to you. Which you should have considering it's an old building. It's reasonably priced, they have their own round 60 inch tables for you to use along with chairs. But the chairs are a little old and ugly. The hall has high ceilings with exposed beams. Which I loved. Only challenge was the ugly fluorescent bar lights and AC vents. But we made it work with string lights and paper lanterns and it really turned the place around. Everyone loves how the hall looked and I was very happy with how it turned out. Overall it was a great location for our wedding reception. I recommend it if your up to the challenge and have a specific look in mind like we did.

Sometimes it is even free! The only problem is most are simply unaware of what activities are scheduled. The only folks who are aware are the "regulars" who stop by the post on a regular basis. Many times the monthly calendar is posted late (many don't even know where to go to access the calendar). If there is a special event not listed on the calendar members and non members never get directly notified. The post has a massive email mailing list of folks so why not just send out a copy of the monthly calendar, along with event updates to everyone? One click does it all. The turnout would be a lot better, and the bar would get additional revenue from those who drink too. If they did that they would get five stars!!!!
