Vibe Collective is a rad salon & art space in my neighborhood. A local female-owned small business that is true to its roots (love what I did there? I do!). The owners, Ashley & Penny, are plain & simple, hair artists. The entire team of stylists is artists. They've honed their craft so that every person walking out looks like a million bucks after receiving services. They absolutely pamper their clients. My husband and I both see Ashley, who is *amazing*! She is meticulous about color and cuts, and a genuinely hilarious person. We first started seeing Ashley prior to Vibe opening. Because of distance I started going elsewhere, and believe me when I say My. Hair. Was. Wrecked. when I came crawling back to Ashley. She graciously welcomed me back and after a year and a half long hair journey, my hair is back to normal and healthy. Side note: I've never, ever had the type of hair that can wash and go. I love this little eastside gem and the unicorns that fill the space! Lizz is my go-to hair genius for cut and color. Not only is she uber talented but she is equally such a kind soul to be around. I thoroughly enjoy the time I get to spend with her while she works her magic. After breaking up with my last hair stylist it took me a while to find the time with my busy schedule to get an appointment with Lizz -- y'all it was 10000% worth the wait! The salon is beautifully decorated and has a very relaxing "vibe." There is also amble parking right across the street which we all know is a rare find in Austin. First things first, there are only good vibes in this place. I have a long dramatic story about my experience here but to save you all a long story I would like to write about why this place is so awesome. #1- good vibes, edgy feel, filled with down to earth cool ass chicks. #2- Ashley Ashley Ashley. Aside from her fun personality, her passion and drive to be creative is what makes this salon. She just purely enjoys it and you can tell with just her attitude. I had balayage before and naturally have dark hair but have always wanted to be blonde. Ashley has definitely taken me down that road but has done it safely over a series of several sessions with each session making me feeling absolutely fabulous and like a new person. Every time I go to see her I typically have an idea of what I've been thinking about but honestly would let her choose whatever she wanted to do to my hair because I just trust her that much. Another thing that I love seeing is what all the other stylist do, as well. Everyone here is equally so amazing and talented. I also love that they have someone who specializes in mens haircut too! Such a diverse group of talent but each stylist brings something so unique to the table. I am so glad I live nearby but even if I didn't I would drive however long to come see these people. I've been going to Penny for eleven years now and won't go anywhere else to get my hair done - but if I had to, I'd go to Ashely, Vibe Collective co-owner and color expert, or Sarah - I'd trust anyone at Vibe Collective with my hair. Penny has taken my hair from drab to fab. At her hands, my hair has sported perfect blonde highlights, and then gone from millennial pink to ultra-violet to a rich-looking red. It always brings compliments, and suits me, and I love it. Not only will Vibe Collective give you great hair, they can give you tips on how to maintain your hair's newly induced beauty. Penny even wrote a color guide consisting of ten tips that is about bookmark-sized. The last time I was in there I picked it up and used it as a bookmark, and I can't emphasize how helpful it is to have a list of do's and don'ts to follow between hair appointments. I can refer to it at any time, and it's my own hairdresser's expert advice! That's just one way Penny give back to her clients. The salon itself is super cool. Art on the walls, some cool jewelry for sale, and it changes now and then so nothing gets stale. I love the hanging light fixtures, it's almost like sculpture. And the TV screens show current fashion shows, or music videos, so there's always something visually interesting to look at, if you ever get tired of looking in the mirror, or at what the other stylists are doing (you won't). read more

I've been a loyal client to Liz Holt for years. She is a very talented colorist but today I unfortunately learned that she values quick cash grabs over costumer loyalty. I woke up the day of my appointment sick with a fever and when I called the salon and they made me aware of their policy where you have to pay full price for day of cancellations. I offered to come in with a mask and that offer was rejected. Liz Holt charged me $390 for waking up sick. It truly feels like a gut punch because I'm pretty easy going, always on time, always down to let her take photos and always tip 20%. I've seen her for years and even trusted her to do my wedding hair. This is the first time I've ever had to cancel last minute and I thought we had built a good rapport and trust. I understand paying the full service fee for a no call no show but to do this to a client who has seen you for years has made me lose all respect for her and this salon. This whole situation has left me feeling used and discarded as a client. I would've been okay with paying fee but to pay for the full service is beyond messed up. I hate writing negative reviews but I'm so incredibly disappointed and heartbroken by this treatment so I feel like I need to warn other loyal clients that years of support mean absolutely nothing to her read more

This review is for Lizz. After researching, I booked an appointment with her because I have blackest of black hair and read that she has experience lifting the color. So far, I've gotten my hair colored by her about 4 times and have loved every single session. I've never had a colorist lift my hair color so quickly without it turning brassy. I appreciate how consistently meticulous, professional and thoughtful she is. Pricing is very reasonable too, and she doesn't surprise you with random extra fees. On top of her skills, she's so chill and personable. I drive over an hour to the salon and always end up taking a nap while getting my hair done . I don't feel pressured to talk, which is nice sometimes. You do have to book a month or more on advance! They have easy online scheduling. read more

Amazing color work! I've been having my hair professionally colored for almost 25 years and have never been to a salon with as many talented colorists as Vibe. My regular magician there, Lizz Holt, is the fastest, most gentle, and most competent stylist I've ever been to-and when I can't see her, the other stylists are equally amazing. I've had A LOT of color that I thought I liked, but I've never been as in love with my hair as I am now. I feel like a movie star every time I leave the salon, as she even has time to blow out and style my long and thick hair-and it's never been in better shape or had more bold color. I also like to shave my head if I decide it's all to much. 4. days later I call and say I need to look "professional" for a meeting. Most stylist reading this are screaming by now. Not Penny. I swear she loves the challenge! She shaves it off, helps grow it out (so you don't even know that's what's happening), and dyes it, all while keeping it healthy and gorgeous. You don't just look good leaving the salon, she makes sure it looks good till you get back. Most can't do that with (curly) purple and pink hair. She honestly thinks 2 steps ahead of that hair! (and the trends) Truly an artist that loves her craft. She takes the first few minutes of every appointment to find out what's new, then communicates her plan of attack to you. I love that I still feel like a new client after years of seeing her. Talking to Ashley (it's a fun place just waiting for your apt) I discovered her mens haircut skills were top notch and decided to send my boyfriend to her. He will not let anyone (other than penny) touch his golden locks now. His long hair went from airheads to lion king simba thanks to the ladies at vibe! Go get your hair did at Vibe. VIBE: Cool and trendy WHY: Great treatment & haircut I was visiting some friends in Austin last weekend and decided to get an impromptu haircut. The last one I got at a different salon was very underwhelming, and I wasn't even able to wear my natural waves in a flattering way. I booked my appointment online through their website, which was super easy, and my stylist was Jenna. She was great! She was fun & interesting to talk to, and most importantly she heard me out when I explained what I didn't like about my current cut. She took time to talk to me about my hair habits and shape that I wanted, and even helped me re-construct what I ask for when talking to my future stylists. She gave me a great new shape without taking off too much length, and thinned out my ends with some cool looking techniques so that my wavy hair fell nicely around my face. Y'all! This salon is amazing!! Penny is an artist and a freaking awesome hair color goddess. I HIGHLY recommend checking this place out!! I've been considering going a little wild and coloring my hair a funky color for a while. Penny came highly recommended by a friend with crush-worthy deep blue hair. I came in to Penny with dyed dark dark brown and walked out with gorgeous sunset hair that I get never-ending compliments on. Sunset hair is an ombré look transitioning from purple to pink to orange to yellow. Sounds crazy? It kinda is.... BUT Penny applied the colors in such a gorgeous way that they transition beautifully. I've been noticing other people's dye jobs a lot more since going to Vibe and I feel so fortunate to have found an awesome hair dresser to do vivid color expertly. The ladies at Vibe do it all and I can't say enough about their skills! A couple things-- if you're going to try out vivid hair color, keep in mind that your routines will definitely need to change. Every time your hair gets wet, the color will fade and change. Plus, if you're getting your hair bleached, make sure you haven't washed it in a few days. Penny is everything you look for in a stylist (and friend)-she asks questions, truly listens to what you say, offers realistic feedback about what is and isn't achievable, and she patiently takes her time to do the job well. Oh wow, am I forever grateful to have referral. Jamie has been so awesome and really helped me start to love my hair again. I have lived in Austin going on 6 years and have jumped around to different stylists each and every time. It often has to do with increasingly rising prices but also because I just haven't found someone who gives me the kind of haircut where I feel I MUST go back.
