At last, after years of seeing them place in the local top places to eat, I finally paid them a visit. They're usually closed the days that I'm in the Upper Marlboro area, but not this time! It's in the same Plaza as the Amish market, so there's plenty of parking. I stepped inside and there were a couple of chairs for waiting along the window. Otherwise, it's a small open space and there are desserts on display, I'm in you to read, and very polite staff behind the counter. I decided to get the blackened salmon and shrimp entree with collard greens and mac and cheese. I got their salts at caramel banana pudding for dessert. I decided to use my insulated bag and wait until I got to my friend's house to eat. I love the shrimp and the salmon. They were seasoned well, but not to a point of tasting too salty, which can happen at a lot of soul food restaurants for me. Unfortunately, despite the good flavor, this was the case with the collard greens, whew. Also, there is turkey in there, so don't get it as a vegetarian option! The mac and cheese was good... Not sure where I would put it in my rankings, but I enjoyed it. That banana pudding.... Whoa. It was the perfect dessert, and I would happily get it again. Spent this afternoon at one of the local wineries and was in the mood for some fried fish afterwards and stopped here on my way home. The fish was seasoned very well...my fried shrimp were tooooo salty...the mashed sweet potatoes were ok...greens bland, Mac & cheese-eehhh & the potato salad disgusting. Smh...this place has definitely fallen off since I remember...WHAT HAPPENED?! lol Isn't the saying: "things get better with time" ??? Not in this case... Today was my second time ordering a meal from Vibes Southern Cuisine. The young lady that took my order was efficient but not friendly. I ordered the fried whiting with mac and cheese and collard greens. The meal was consistently good. I got three nice size whiting fillets lightly seasoned and golden brown, with a cheesy Mac and well seasoned greens. The portions were filling as I could not eat it all and had a good amount for later. Just wish meal came with cornbread. I also tried the salted caramel banana pudding. Let's just say it wasn't my favorite, but it was ok. Very sweet, not enough bananas with a very thick pudding and a mix of vanilla wafers and chessmen cookies. read more

When I went previously I had the fried shrimp and fish with Mac and cheese and greens. Both times the greens were good, the Mac was good also. The Mac and cheese could've used a little more seasoning but it was still good, 8/10 and the sweet potatoes were honestly carried the whole meal, 10/10. The sides were the best part of the meal and honestly, I could've did without the fish or wings. For the quality of the food, I think it was a little overpriced. This soul food carry out is one of the best tasting restaurants with the DMV. Don't expect too much of an ambience as this is only a carryout with a couple chairs for waiting. Ordered the 1/2 & 1/2 platter with collards and hush puppies, along with the peach Hennessy BBQ sauce and a water. Workers were incredibly polite and welcoming, and despite being told there would be a 15 minute wait time for my order, I received my food within 5 minutes. The shrimp and the wings were delicious - very crispy and seasoned nicely (maybe could have done with a little more on the shrimp, however). The sauce was a nice pair, and neither the peach nor Hennessy flavor was overbearing. Hush puppies were equally crispy and cooked very well, while the collards were good - not terribly exciting. However, even after receiving the text notification, we had to wait an additional 5-10 minutes before actually getting our order. There wasn't much communication or friendly engagement during that time--no updates or reassurance that our food was almost ready--which made the experience feel a bit unwelcoming. The space itself could also use a little more attention and warmth--something to make it feel more inviting and in line with the "vibes" the name promises. Now, as for the food: absolutely delicious! That's really misleading. There are no chairs inside which makes waiting hard for older folks or people with disabilities like me, so if I have to wait a little, chairs would be nice to accommodate the delay. I also saw a lot of older folks waiting and with the heat outside we need to make sure people are accommodated for. And honestly, the name is Vibes, so the energy should really match that. I have been here 3-4 times within the last two weeks, and my issue is the same! STOP FRYING CHICKEN IN BURNT GREASE!!!!! There is no reason for my entire car to smell like burnt grease. When you bite into the chicken you can smell and taste the burnt grease. CHANGE YOUR GREASE PLEASE!!! The past 3-4 times I ordered the grease was burnt and it stinks!!! The lady who took my order was so friendly and kind and I loved that repeated the order back to me. Restaurants don't realize how important that is . I ordered the Fried Chicken Wingettes and Fried Shrimp with Mac and Cheese and Sweet Potatoes and BABY that food was DELICIOUS ! The wings were fried just right and the seasoning was on point. The shrimp were fried to perfection! The Mac and Cheese was soooo good and the sweet potatoes had the perfect amount of flavor! I love that they offer so many different sauce options for the wings and shrimp, I went with the Thai Chili sauce and it complimented my food perfectly! Still love this spot! I have ordered pretty much everything on the menu at this point. My favorite is the meatloaf. Every time I have a visitor from back home, I take them here. They get jealous whenever I say I'm going to Vibes when they're not in town. The service is still as immaculate as ever from Mr & Mrs Vibes (Andre & Karen) to their staff. No need to complain about wait times, this is a restaurant not a fast food joint. The wait time is pretty standard, about 15-20 minutes. Some times are busier than others (ie when people are getting off of work, or Amish market days Thurs-Sat). Also, this place is always on tiktok so you have to factor in viewers trying it out too. I used to wait in the cold and rain when Vibes was a food truck so I surely don't mind waiting now. Just visited Vibes Southern Cuisine for the first time today and it definitely lived up to the name--great food and even better vibes! I was genuinely impressed by the flavor and quality of the food. The wings and pork chops were perfectly seasoned and crispy, the lump crab cake was juicy and packed with real crab (no filler here!), and the macaroni and cheese was rich and full of flavor--exactly how comfort food should be. My husband couldn't stop raving about the Cherry Lemonade--super refreshing and just the right amount of sweet and tart. It might be his new favorite drink! I'm new to the area and this was recommended by a friend and I was very very hungry. It's in a shopping mall area so there's plenty of parking. I went on a Friday evening and was happy to see that the line was not too long. It is take out only and they have a pretty extensive menu. It was only about 15 minutes from the time I ordered to when my order was ready. They take your name and phone number so that you can step outside or maybe run some other errands in the mall because it's near the Amish market. Portion sizes are pretty good. I got the whiting with mashed sweet potatoes and collards. My friend got the bang bang shrimp and it was supposed to be mac & cheese and collard's but they accidentally put Sweet potatoes in. We didn't realize it until I was already back at the house. I am a huge fan of whiting and not everybody prepares it correctly. This was pretty good. Not great but pretty good. I was also wondering if it was actually whiting because it was a pretty thick piece and whiting is not usually that thick. It was season decently. The sweet potatoes were a little too sweet for me which is unusual because I have a big sweet tooth. But it was a little too sugary. The collards were on point. I tried some of my friends mac & cheese and it was interesting almost as if the pasta is made in a broth.
