A few days ago, my 2017 Ford Edge started making a loud metal rattling noise. I had previously been told by another shop that my engine mounts needed to be replaced, so I assumed one of them had finally failed. I called my regular mechanic for an estimate, but never heard back, so I started calling other shops. After reading so many positive reviews about Sam's Auto Service, especially the ones mentioning Lopez and his honesty, I decided to give them a call. Lopez answered, gave me a fair ballpark estimate for replacing the engine mounts, explained the labor costs, and told me to bring it in. He even said that if it turned out to be the engine mounts, there was a good chance I'd have my vehicle back the same day. After inspecting my vehicle, he didn't try to sell me the repair I thought I needed. Instead, he called me and explained that my engine mounts were not the problem. The real issue was a cracked flywheel. That immediately told me I was dealing with an honest shop that diagnoses the actual problem instead of replacing parts that don't need to be replaced. Lopez sent me photos showing the cracked flywheel while it was still installed in my vehicle so I could actually see the damage for myself. I have never had another mechanic take the time to do that. During the repair, they also replaced the transmission fluid since the transmission had to be removed to replace the flywheel, and they completed a front-end alignment before returning my vehicle. This place had good reviews, so first I called to see what the wait was like, then drove over. The person I spoke to on the phone was pleasant. When I arrived, they asked me to scan a QR code to check in, that was neat. Although I went in for just an emissions inspection, the person who checked me in saw that my state inspection was due soon and suggested getting that done as well which I agreed to. Then I sat in the waiting area in the back and worked a bit. I wish I'd taken a picture of the waiting area before others arrived because it was so cute! It was decorated with a beach theme and there were small couches and arm chairs and games to play. I think the emissions and safety inspection took about an hour or a little more. When they finished the person who checked me out was also pleasant and chatty. He was reviewing my vehicle and what services I needed and I commented that it was much less than what my dealer recommended. He was very professional and said that the dealer might be more conservative but he believes in only getting what's necessary. I appreciated his take, and especially that he didn't feel the need to talk negatively about a competitor. I will absolutely be back to get my car serviced. I guess it's because my car is newer and they can't make money off state and emissions inspections unless cars are older usually. I called here before I went and they only had one car ahead of mine. When I showed up to the shop, there was someone working on another vehicle but was very friendly to me and asked me to wait while he looks at my car. I was dome in 30 minutes and was on my way! While waiting at the shop, I also overheard the mechanics conversation with a customer where they needed a costly car part replaced, and he even went ahead and called the manufacturer for the customer to see if there was still a warranty on the part. He also came up with other alternatives. A customer could use to pay for the expensive part. I've never seen a mechanic go this far for a customer before and it makes me want to come back in case there's ever issues with my car.
