I had a very disappointing and frankly frightening experience with Total Recon. My 2014 Tesla Model S was towed here on October 3, 2025, after an accident. They gave me a repair estimate of $17,335.18 on October 15, which seemed reasonable, and I assumed work was being done. For over two months, I waited with no updates. Suddenly, on December 5, they emailed demanding the loaner back immediately and threatened a police report for "failure to return a rental vehicle." I called their rep (Alfonso), who said he would extend the loaner--he never followed up. That evening, the loaner was remotely disabled (Valet Mode) while I was driving, stranding me overnight in 20°F snowy/rainy weather on a busy DC street. I had to pay for towing myself to avoid freezing. The next morning (December 6), they called police (Rockville and Prince George's County), claiming I failed to return the rental. They also told officers my Florida license was "fake" or fraudulent. Police cleared me immediately. I repeatedly explained my disabilities (immune-compromised, OCD, ADHD, anxiety) and asked for accommodations to get my medication and belongings from the loaner (less than ¼ mile away at a friend's house). They refused and left me stranded without transportation or meds ever since. Now they demand over $14,000 in storage/rental fees--almost as much as the repair estimate--yet no work was ever done on my car. I have video, emails, bills, and records. TOTAL RIP-OFF! I was rear-ended while waiting at the stoplight with my tesla model y. The only damage was on a small portion of the liftgate. They took over three weeks for the repair. We asked for a shorter time since it was my daughter's spring break. At first they said it was ok but then they changed their mind. They insisted on a minimum of three weeks. I think that they run a racket on the tesla loaners and charge the insurance with luxury rentals. Their main focus was to secure as much money they could procure for themselves ignoring all the requests of the customers. In total they took around $12,000 for a repair of less than $2000 for an average paint shop. (they tell everyone a minimum of three weeks!) read more

This company will max out the amount of repairs it can do. If you're paying out of pocket, it'll be significantly higher than normal autobody shops that are willing to work with you for the business. Being the default 'tesla authorized' repair center in the area gives them tremendous monopoly over pricing. Do NOT take their rentals/loaners, go through the mainstream rental companies. Total Recon does not leave memory sticks in all their casr and some of the car's sentry are not set on by default. I found out the hard way when a random person at Aldis backed into the 'loaner' and had to pay out of pocket for the dmg which was exceptionally light. Employees claimed I could keep the parts to take back to the place that tried to do a quick fix/paint (bad paint) so I could get my $ back from the quick paint place, but they gave me the typical run around that other shops give when they lie. The employees are nice to your face but when they get caught up in their lies, they suddenly go radio silent. They do not give you back parts that are barely damaged either. You do get your car back fantastically detailed which is a nice feature but if you have older paint, BEWARE because they compound the living daylights out of your paint and Tesla paint is already notoriously thin/weak. The amount of compounding they do greatly reduces the longevity of your overall paint. Beware when using Total Recon. I've used them twice now, first was decent but the 2nd time, they've turned into an unreliable/lying sack of crap type company that loads up whatever they can on the estimate. read more

This company is sketchy. They lack communication skills. I had to initiate all the calls to follow up on my car. Be careful. Trunk is still not 100% after accident. It closes but way too fast. I asked to look into it, but they ignored my request. Shop around. They are only looking to make a profit. Also, when I initially picked up the car after a rear collision, my phone was not connecting to open. They said oh, it's a model 3 it supposed to that. Then they said, go to a Tesla dealership and have them look at it. This is very unprofessional. They are constantly passing the buck and not taking responsibility when they are supposed to guarantee their work. I bought it back to the TR and they had to give another supplement to the insurance company. They said it was a sensor issue. This was obvious an issue from the very beginning, but they wanted more money from the insurance company. They should have corrected the problem from the beginning, after I told them. After ignorantly using the scrub part of a sponge to wash a car, I made the grave mistake of creating swirl marks on my black Camry. I stumbled upon this auto detailing shop after seeing overwhelmingly positive reviews and ratings. The customer service was able to give me an accurate price quote when I messaged them on yelp that was lower than any other shop. They didn't beat around the bush and evade the question. Lot's of places refuse to give quotes or won't give straight forward answers. I ended up ultimately getting the full exterior and wet sand treatment to buff out the scratches on the wax of my car. I must say that I am definitely impressed with their above and beyond services. My car looks brand new and they even cleaned the whole interior of my car. They also helped me out with a minor bumper issue that wasn't part of the treatment. All in all, very professional workers and outstanding services. Would recommend to anyone with scratches on their exterior who want to renew the appearance of their car. Booked far out, but responsive. Got a flat tire on the way there and they also changed the tired and put the spare on for me and offered to get me set up to get the tire replaced too. I bought my car used, direct from the previous owner, and he definitely didn't clean out the car before selling it. I mentioned this to Total Recon, that I had just bought the car and everything inside the car belonged to the prior owner. They did a decent job of cleaning the interior, but I noticed smudges/dirty/uncleaned areas on the window. They also touched up all of the dings and dents on the car and covered up the damage pretty well, did a great job with refreshing the headlights, and removing plastic from mods that the previous owner had affixed to the car. My biggest frustration was when I opened the center console after picking the car up and found trash inside. Same with the glove box. I would have expected them to clean inside all of the compartments when I purchased their total recon signature package. So while I was happy with the exterior work, I was underwhelmed with the attention to detail in the interior. read more

I recently had a frustrating experience with Total Recon, a Tesla-approved repair shop. I took my Tesla Model Y to them for two minor scratches. Despite the small job, it took three weeks to repair. During that time, they provided a loaner Tesla. When I returned the loaner, I noticed a tiny scuff on the front right rim and a small paint scratch on the front left corner that weren't there before. Darwin, the representative, also claimed my headlight needed replacement due to misalignment, which wasn't true based on my before photos. This felt like an attempt to upcharge me. In the end, I had to pay the full $1,000 deductible for my car and $1,000 for the loaner. The experience felt like shakedown extortion. For a pin line paint scratch, it would cost $1,000! Actually, I was quoted $1,500, but I guess an additional $1,000 was the max they could squeeze out of me. Their rental was already pretty scratched up and I highly doubt any of this would go to repairs. In 20 years of renting cars, I have never experienced anything like this, and my instinct tells me this is standard practice here. I expected better from a Tesla-approved shop. How they could fail to vet this type of fraud is beyond me. Buyer beware of these predatory scammer rentals: most of these "300 5-star reviews" look paid for. Anything over 300 5-star reviews should be a red flag to anyone. Most comparable auto-body shops will have 8-50 reviews, with 50 being on the extreme end. Either that, or Total Recon must be the greatest autobody shop of all time. The crazy thing is they needed 300 to balance out all the bad/mixed reviews of those they couldn't get Yelp to remove. Still stand by everything I said back in 2017 - Total Recon is THE place to go for your collision car care needs. An unfortunate incident happened to one of our vehicles while it was parked in the apartment's garage. Almost instantly, we hopped on Yelp to Request a Quote, with Total Recon responding the same day with a preliminary estimate. After some back and forth, we brought the car in and they pretty much handled it from there, including talking to the estimator from the other vehicle's insurance. As un-fun as dealing with car repairs and insurance claims is, I am so happy I went through the process with Total Recon Auto Center. Everyone here was incredibly professional and kind. But beyond that, they made it so that I hardly had to talk to my insurance company at all! Every hiccup or obstacle the insurance company tried to pin on me, the guys at Total Auto Recon took care of. My insurance told me I'd have to pay for the parts, pay out of pocket for the rental car and be reimbursed, and that I'd have additional out of pocket fees. I'm not sure what type of wizardry Total Recon practices, but none of that happened. I dropped off my car, got my rental, and paid my deductible when I picked up my car...which also looked as good as new! I needed to get my SUV's interior detailed because it was full of dog hairs and just a bunch of junk from various kids in the backseat areas. Dropped it off eith Total Recon on a Saturday morning and picked it up that afternoon when they called me to let me know it was ready. I was impressed by the level of effort and attention to detail put forth in the work Total Recon did. They not only detailed the interior but they washed and shined up the tires, wheels and running boards. There were no dog hairs left in the areas where I had experienced difficulty getting them rid of. There were accidentally painted letters on the leather of one of the third row back seats that I thought were permanent. They made that ultimately disappear without a trace. The vehicle looked like it was brand new at the new car dealership. Just a few days ago I discovered they cleaned the engine bay under the hood because I know I didn't clean any of that. That wasn't even part of the package from what I recall but they took care of that and it was a nice touch. The pictures say a thousand words I can't say. Called back a couple days later and spoke with a nice lady who was able to get me an actual appointment but also requested photos. Sent photos, no change. Went in for an estimate and the guy says "that's it?". Why yes, it's a minor dent and scratch...do you only do big insurance-gouging business? This was my first time getting my car detailed. Service was on 11.02.2023. I requested a full detailing (similar to getting it ready for sale at a dealership). I contacted Total Recon Auto Center and Jonathan was simply the best. He was my point of contact and thoroughly explained the different types of detailing available and prices. On the day of the appointment (I elected to drop off my car, the night before), he welcomed me and went over the process once again. He showed another car that they had completed a detailing on. He also inspected the car in and out and asked me to point out any scratches I needed fixed. He kindly pointed one scratch which I hadn't seen before. I then received a call around noon-ish, informing me that my car was ready for pick up. When I went to pick it up, Jonathan asked me to inspect the car and ensure that it was to my liking. Long story short, I got into a car accident in 2017 and needed to get it repaired. My friend recommended this shop. I used to work in Rockville and used to admire the occasional Lamborghinis on my drive in. Anyways, the guys are so genuinely nice and helped take of care of everything. It was surprisingly easy, especially given that I went through my insurance. They had rental cars on premise so I didn't have to worry about coordinating all of that through my insurance and they billed everything directly to my insurance. Fast forward a few months, I noticed some bubbling on the area they repaired, probably due to the heat. I contacted them and they asked to bring it in so they could take a look. It was barely noticeable and didn't really bother me so I decided to forgo the drive up to Maryland as I no longer worked in the area. Fast, fast forward to today (several years later), I'm involved in a hit and run so I decide to get it repaired. Figured I would take it to them again since the service alone was so great and maybe they could look/repair their previous work. Ok not only did they make insurance claim so stupidly easy BUT they also COMPLETELY repaired their previous work despite me saying it wasn't that big of a deal. They completely stand behind their quality of work. I was blown away. You don't really run into companies like this anymore. It was time to treat my baby car to a luxurious spa. I put her through so much misery in the last couple of years, leaving her unwashed, scratched, and violated by car dings. There was no better place to have brought her in for a treatment than Total Recon. I dropped my car off on Tuesday since the representative on the phone and via Yelp Messaging told me that Tuesdays and Wednesdays are their least busiest days and that the process would only take from 4 to 4.5 hours. They offered to drop me off within the two mile distance from Total Recon, which I completely took advantage of. My appointment was at 8:30am, but I came 15 minutes early to hopefully give them a head start on my car. I spent the next 6 hours idly waiting in Rockville Town Center, which was pretty awful. Waiting was like waiting at a doctor's office and you never know when your turn is next. Unfortunately, it turned out that Total Recon was pretty behind on schedule. I called one of the guys to pick me up from the Town Center to get back into the office. There, I waited another hour. By the time they were done with my car, I was pretty short tempered and wanted my car so that I could get home at a decent time to avoid rush hour. There were some car dings that they were able to take care of (which by the way, I brought my own ink pen for them to use) without any extra cost. I really liked this level of service since they were willing to work on it during inspection. After I got home, I observed my car a few more times and wanted to see if they missed any spots. Overall, I realized that while I have put my car through a lot of misery over these past few years, Total Recon did an excellent job to get my car in its best version right now. It was kind of hard to believe that I've neglected my car over the years and could see the impact (i.e. rock dings from lower front bumper; and interior scratches on hard surfaces). With the right treatment, I think my baby car is quite happy with the results. Pros: +Exterior treatment=Excellent results. Car almost looks spankin' new! +Every damn crevice is basically cleaned out - how damn meticulous. +Loaner cars or drop-off service within 2 miles of Total Recon. +Incredibly great customer service. No one is sketchy. Negatives: +Long waits. Should have called as a courtesy to inform customers that they're running behind schedule. +Need to inform customers about loaner cars so that if there is potentially a long wait that day, the customer could get to work or go run other errands. read more
