King Studio door from inside the "living room"

GREAT hotel, especially for the LGBT+ community! Phenomenal room, great amenities, in the heart of LGBT+ neighborhood, walkable to everything from local gems to the White House! My boyfriend and I went for a long weekend (Fri-Mon). We stayed in a King Studio, which was absolutely worth it! The bed is big, soft, and comfortable. The bathroom is beautiful and modern with a huge shower, though the water does run HOT! The storage space was great. It's the heart of the city so don't expect landscape vista views, but who's traveling to look out the hotel window? The staff was friendly and welcoming. Our room was ready early and they allowed us to check in at 12:00 pm. The Dovetail restaurant was delicious, with great cocktails! BPM cafe is a touch pricey but good quality drinks for a hotel (though I'd recommend going to one of the dozen cafes nearby instead). The rooftop above the 10th floor was small but beautiful, with a cute little pool and a bar in the evenings. Overall I couldn't be happier, and we'll definitely be back next time we go to DC!

I haven't checked out, yet I feel confident with this review. This stay was a GREAT surprise. The hotel is funky, modern and artsy. Superb art selection that makes the ambiance feel cozy and lush. The staff has been stupendous and courteous. Our room was spotless, impeccably decorated with delightful art, and incredibly spacious and comfortable. The convenience of the BMP café and the Dovetail restaurant was a plus. The location was perfect and felt comfortable and safe to walk to brunch with friends. Loved this place and would absolutely recommend.

We stayed at the Viceroy on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, and checked out today Friday, September 29, 2023. First, I will say I'm not sure how this hotel has such good reviews on yelp or TripAdvisor. Our room 804 was dirty, under kept with the smell of mold, the door wouldn't close properly and the air conditioning squealed all night. We were blown away this hotel is considered a 4-star hotel. We paid over $500 a night based on the reviews and pictures online, thinking we we were getting a high-end stay, but we got a glorified Motel 6. I am so disappointed and will never stay at a Viceroy property again. As you can see, based on my pictures, this hotel was absolutely sub-par for what they are charging.

I would first like to say that I hope The Viceroy will take this feedback and make this property better, because it truly has lots of potential. The hotel is beautifully decorated, but is lacking in basic amenities. The hotel staff was really nice and for the most part, the rooms were great (size-wise, layout, etc). There's a great restaurant, Dovetail, located on the first floor and it is phenomenal. Where The Viceroy fell short was the poor AC circulation in the rooms and the rooftop pool area. During our 3 night stay, our room did not cool at all. The cold air was blowing from the AC unit, but it didn't stay cool. It made it very uncomfortable to sleep and we had to constantly turn on the AC, since it would automatically turn off on its own. We asked the front desk about the AC issue and they said it was a common issue at all their properties, and there wasn't anything they could do. The second big issue was the pool area, which turned out to be a disappointment. Not only was the Hush Rooftop Bar not open for the 3 days we spent at the pool, but it was nearly impossible to find snacks/food on the hotel premise during the pool hours. The BPM coffee and wine shop closes at 1pm, and the Hush Rooftop Bar opens at 5pm and is not available during pool hours. We had to bring outside food and drinks to the pool area, which was a huge inconvenience. The hotel is missing out on an opportunity to cater to the poolside crowd between 1-5pm. Aside from this, the pool was dirty, cloudy and we found all sorts of plastic cups, and chunks of hair floating in the pool. We asked the staff assigned to the pool to please pass the net, but it was pretty obvious the pool hadn't been cleaned in a while. I've never seen this at any other pool I've been to, and know it's a small task that goes a long way. I don't don't how The Viceroy is considered a 4-star hotel, but if they're going to claim and charge like a 4-star hotel, they should put the effort into being one.

My husband and I had our wedding reception here, and I cannot say enough about how incredible our experience was. Our guests LOVED their rooms. They all raved about the huge showers, comfortable beds, and beautiful decor. If you're looking for a place to stay on your trip to DC, you will not be disappointed in the Viceroy! The rooms are fantastic, but it's really the staff that put this hotel over the top. From the front desk, to the servers, to the event staff, everyone was so helpful and friendly with our guests, which really made the wedding special. Kate, the Director of Sales, was the event liaison for our reception and she was simply incredible. In the many months leading up to our wedding, she was extremely communicative and helpful. She always had time to talk to us and answer our questions. On our wedding day, she went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect for us. After we left the church and arrived at our reception, it was SO nice to be able to relax and let the event staff take the reins. The event staff took care of everything for us. Kate really listened to our vision for the reception and made it come to life. If you are looking for an event venue that will work tirelessly with you to bring your vision to life and make sure you and every single one of your guests has an incredible time, look no further! Thank you Kate and everyone at the Viceroy Washington DC!

We had an AMAZING time! We did a staycation here for my birthday - day pass! Jypsy was so accommodating and upgraded us to a suite and brought us free champagne on the rooftop! The rooftop is everything!!!!! There's so many amazing spots at this hotel - cute places to sit and chat and hang out, and SO many cute photo op spots! The only disappointment was that the pool isn't heated, but we still jumped in, lol! We will definitely be back!

Beautiful place and wonderful staff. Beautiful rooms and the bathrooms of course are my favorites. I still have one more day to review. So far so good !!!

That jetted tub was supposed to earn its keep. The room: genuinely beautiful. The technology: aggressively dated. The vibe: a 90s time capsule, complete with missing doorknobs. There was effort here, but it felt like the hotel was holding its breath, afraid any real investment might trigger the next recession. What they got right: The bellhops were fantastic. Warm, personable, fun. Truly the highlight. Most staff we interacted with were polite and willing to help, which made the gaps elsewhere even more confusing. What they got wrong (beyond the dated room and tech): For a hotel that loudly advertises luxury service, the customer experience fell flat. Outside of the arrival bowl of fruit, nothing felt elevated. Night two, we ordered pizza and planned a cozy Home Alone movie night. The technology made streaming impossible. Fine, cable it is. We called the concierge and asked for two plates. Just two. The answer was a flat no. We were told to walk down to the lobby restaurant and see if they might have plates "to spare." I'm sorry, what? The next morning, room service arrived... with someone else's order. It was corrected, but for a luxury hotel, that kind of miss is surprising. Housekeeping came through, but only halfway. The coffee and minibar were never restocked. In a suite. At a luxury hotel. This is table stakes. At 9:30 PM we stopped by the lobby circle bar. It was immediately clear the bartenders did not want to be there. I get it, service work is hard. Still, opening our interaction by warning us about last call at 11 set a strange tone. By 10:00, one bartender disappeared for 45 minutes. No refills. No check-in. No bill. Breaks are important. Coverage is also important, especially when you're selling a premium experience. Beyond the bellhops, much of the staff felt irritated to be present. Front desk to concierge, the energy was less "historic luxury hotel" and more "counting down the minutes." The hotel was also clearly prioritizing weekend tea and brunch revenue, to the point that the historic lobby was clogged with extra tables and largely unusable for actual hotel guests. Bottom line: this was not a luxury experience, and I would not recommend it. I'm only posting this publicly because I reached out directly to hotel management and never received a response. At that point, a review feels necessary.
