    Dry wings
    Laura P.

Chili was a clump of ground beef...seasoned with sweet and a spicy odd taste and not enjoyable at all. Wings were dry. Dry rub also had an odd sweet taste. My mother ordered a steak and blue salad, which is described as having potato croutons. What was served was literal potato wedges on a salad. Been living in Cheshire all of my life and the Vic House was a staple. In the past 10 years the quality has gone way down.

Give this place a chance. It's a neighborhood restaurant with tasty martinis (I ordered the pumpkin pie martini) and food that isn't as overpriced as other restaurants. The Victorian house is more of a neighborhood restaurant that has a full bar and a quaint setting. True too its name, the decor will remind you of a time past and best not forgotten. If you're tired of the slick soullessness of chain restaurants, try coming here for a quiet dining experience. There are multiple dining rooms, one where you walk in from the back entrance and several other rooms leading down the hallway. We chose to die in a room down the hallway away from the traffic. It was delightfully quiet and I found the experience to be restorative. Overall, the Victorian House encompasses the value of a neighborhood meal with an intimate feel. If you're in the area, drop in for a seasonal drink and a sandwich special.

Upon entering we notice the bar area was busy but the dining room had just one other couple. Now we know why. I first ordered the spare rib dinner. Our sever came back and said they didn't have spare ribs tonight. We both ordered the chicken Marcella. I asked what it came with. Choices were fries, salad, or soup. No pasta, no vegetable,or mashed potato. Who ever heard of chicken marcella pairing with soup or fries? No bread, or water offered while waiting for the meal. This had to be one of the worst meals we ever had. It had such a weird favor to it. Our server finally came by when the meal was done not that we could finish it. She asked how was everything? I said one of worst meals I ever had. She said sorry to hear that. Not worth the one star rating.

So glad we came here! First off, you enter through the bar and find hostess (or someone from waitstaff) and then wait to be seated. It can be a little tight in terms of waiting room if you have a few people in your party but, we were seated within 5 minutes or so. The waitress mentioned a few times (while serving our table) that it was busy, but there were only a few tables filled, I think they need to hire more staff! The appetizers, we ordered fried calamari, French onion soup and honey bbq wings (requested they cook them well). AMAZING!! The fried calamari had some peppers included and it was so yummy! Cooked to perfection, not at all rubbery, and crunchy. The French onion soup was good with perfect amount of cheese, chunks of bread, and onions. The wings were so tasty and cooked just how we like them. Our dinners were a NY strip au poivre, a huge plate of Vic house Mac & cheese, and a kids meal (grilled cheese w fries and an ice cream for dessert). Steak was ordered medium rare and came out cooked just right. The Mac & cheese was phenomenal with 4 different cheeses and breadcrumbs. Me and my boyfriend shared our dishes and we were completely satisfied. My son ate his whole meal but that's no surprise, it's hard to mess up a grilled cheese. Oh! Almost forgot to mention my sangria! I can't remember exactly what it was called on the menu but it was white with blueberries and pears. And it was SO good! They gave me a huge glass of it too, cheers! Our server was pleasant and attentive. Our table was in a small room where we were the only diners. No worries about social distancing there. The pricing was reasonable although $17 for a plate of Mac & cheese is a bit much. My boyfriend won't stop talking about this dinner! He wants to go back ASAP. So do I!

    Pumpkin Pie Martini

The Vic House is my favorite place to go for a drink(pumpkin pie martini OMG) or a nice meal made by their new chef-Joe. Colleen, Terry, Rich, & Alyssa offer fantastic service & great conversation if you're in the mood.

I had the mussel spicy Portuguese special, it was awesome. The R. I. Clam chowder was great (never had that before I think I prefer it over the New England clam chowder). They have great happy hour menu and prices from 4pm to 7pm. I love the quaintness of the house looking restaurant, we wondered who lived there at onetime. They have an outdoor deck, which will be nice for the summertime. We will be back.

I used to go down the street, but the music selection there changed. For those of you frequent to Southington, Spelunkers took over the old Dial 9 speakeasy location. It's a competitive food area and I didn't know what to expect. I'm happy to say that for being marketed as strictly a dive bar, Spelunkers hit all the marks and some. It also was surprisingly large inside compared to what it looked like from the outside (Which was great because some of the other bars nearby are cramped). Their burgers were good and my friends felt the same way about the food that they ordered as wll. They have ample seating (and a variety of it) as well as a pool table and some arcade games to do while listening to music. Prices for drinks were also fair. The interaction that I had with staff, although brief was very friendly. The band they had that night was excellent. Glad I came to see them. They played an eclectic mix of both genres and decades. They were energetic, their song choice were great and they were refreshing to see compared to the typical Southington fare. If they come back to Spelunkers, I'll free my schedule up to come and see. Been watching the socials . Happy to have a fun bar experience again around here and look forward to my next trip.

The tables are very crowded together. THE BATHROOMS ARE DIRTY, NO TOILET PAPER OR PAPER TOWELS IN THE LADIES ROOM AND STUFF ALL OVER THE FLOOR IN THE MEN'S ROOM. NOW FOR THE FOOD!! Veal Milanese, not too bad but not a hint of lemon, not even a wedge on the plate. For $32 Shrimp and crab special, FIRST...NO FLAVOR WHAT SO EVER!!! Totally under cooked pasta, (I am Italiano, I know Al Dente) totally WAY OVER COOKED SHRIMP and some tuna fish type crab meat you had to dig for to get on the fork. JUST AN ALL AROUND TERRIBLE DISH. For $38 Then, after expressing to the staff and talking to the owner about a dish we ate a few bites because it was so horrible, it was ignored by them and we had to pay for a $40 dish that was SHIT. SHE, the owner who honestly looked more like a poorly dress hostess, had the nerve to come back to our table, put her hand on my girls shoulder with a, "are you alright" comment rather than EVER ASKING if there was anything she could do to correct this culinary disaster. THIS PLACE ISN'T EVEN WORTH THE TWO STARS I HAVE GIVEN IT. It was very difficult to understand the mostly Spanish based staff.... if that doesn't scream Italian I don't know what does...However the deserts were not bad but almost certainly come in a box on a truck and not made in house. BOTTOM LINE IS, THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT ITALIAN DINING EXPERIENCES IN CONNECTICUT...DON'T WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS PLACE LIKE I DID.

We had tickets at eight for Haunting at the Ridge about three minutes away. After looking at the menu, we decided to come here for dinner. I was very excited because of all the great menu options. The service was terrible from the start all around. We arrived at 6:15. There was two people in front of us. The hostess acknowledged us, but never took our name. A few minutes later, other people started coming in and she started taking their names and asking them if they wanted to sit outside. She never gave us that option. One of the people came in and started to debate whether or not they wanted to wait 20 minutes. She told them "You can stay or go, it doesn't matter to me." I should have known right there to leave. We were seated at 6:30 which was not a bad wait. 6:45 our orders were taken. Our waitress did not come back to the table one time after bringing our drinks. Never checked on us, never let us know what was going on with the food. She came back at 7:28 with our appetizer. We asked her how long would it take for the rest of our food. She apologized and said it would be another 20 to 25 minutes. I didn't understand how burgers take over an hour to make. We canceled the rest of the order. I was excited about the hotdog. Another letdown. It was cold when I got it and the chili on top had no flavor. I'm not even sure if it was deep-fried. Definitely not worth the $14.50 price. I will say the fries were very good. They were the only bright spot of the night. They have a lot to offer, but I would never come back here due to my experience.

There is a small sign over the door, otherwise you'd think you might be walking into a printing shop or electronics repair place. When you walk in, you'll see the glistening tanks and brewing equipment on your left, a lot of tables and chairs on your right, and the bar and more seating straight ahead. Yesterday, their beverage choices included four IPAs, a Roasted Amber Ale, a Lite Ale, a Berry Sour, two ciders, a few wines, and a distilled spirit cocktail. I went with a full pour ($5) of their 125 Lite Ale. It came in at 5.4% ABV and was described as "A crisp & creamy unfiltered light American ale". I'm not an IPA guy, so I wanted a Pilsner or Lager, so this was perfect for me. Very drinkable, very refreshing, and priced right. My wife ordered a half pour ($5) of the Sparkling Tea DROPS Cocktail by Continuum Distilling. It packed 7.6% ABV firepower and was described as "a unique SPIRIT distilled from Connecticut's best craft IPAs, paired with a Lemon or Sweet Tea base then carbonated to sparkling perfection". I mooched a sip, and it was outstanding. Our server was pleasant and helpful, steering me to the Lite Ale after I eliminated the IPAs and describing the Lemon Drops so well. They have a Ted's Steamed Cheeseburger food truck on site every Friday-Sunday. They set up in a big open area behind the brewery, and there are maybe ten or so tables and chairs out there. Drinking our cold beverages and enjoying a nice cheeseburger was quite the sweet way to enjoy a sunny Saturday afternoon.

My sons and I are in search for hidden wing gems throughout the state. Yes, we love J.Tim's,…read moreappreciate the local flair of O-Joe's (both locations), and even admire the smoked wings in an around Torrington. Someone gave me the tip to try these as he thought they would "compete" with the aforementioned. For the first 5 min of my visit, I thought it might be the case. Here are the reasons to ABSOLUTELY GO!!!!! Even if a 30-45 min drive. 1) SERVICE - simply fantastic. Huge thanks to Destiny and the kitchen for making my experience great. 2) ATMOSPHERE - THIS IS the place I want to come to watch the games, for the long haul in the fall or playoff time! Great lighting. Music gives way to the game. Locals. Golf and bowling games. You name it. Fantastic. 3) THEIR BLUE CHEESE - unique. Delicious. Clearly house made. Makes the wing experience better. Here are the reasons I would only go if convenient: 1) THE FOOD - My chili to start only said beef chili on the menu. On first bite, there was a stinging salty taste of BACON. I have no problem eating bacon, but should say it on the menu for those who do not. And, that flavor profile is not what chili evokes. 2) THE WINGS - when the blue cheese and veggies came out, I was almost hyperventilating with excitement. The wings then came. Huge let down. Without going into the subtleties of the sauces, I'm more focused on deciding if they were frozen-pre-breaded wings or fresh wings with a salty/shake and bake coating on them. They're huge. They're crispy (kitchen is good). They're just not a traditional wing (should also say coated on the menu). 3) THEIR OIL - one of my wings was a delicious lemon pepper dry rub. So much promise. So crispy. Then, the flavor transfer hit. They must have fried fish on the menu. Same/old fry oil So my wings without a sauce (dry rub) tasted faintly of fried cod. Gross. I will go back. I liked the staff and feel enough. It could be fun. But it's not the hidden wing Mecca I will continue to search for. Service, feel, blue cheese earn all the stars.
