Came here with some friends who were visiting for the weekend. - my steak was overcooked, asked for rare and it came medium. - my buddies steak also overcooked, asked for medium rare and it came medium. - my sister in laws steak was under cooked. She asked for well done and it came medium rare. The tartar was awful... we took a single bite and asked the waitress to take it off the table. The garlic bread here is out of this world good, but that's about it. Our service was slow to the point where I almost walked out. We paid $56 each for those overcooked steaks. I wouldn't trust them enough to risk spending that again. I'll be going to a different steakhouse from now on. read more

Second time going to Salvatore's and we ate a full meal this time. The food was quite good. We got a shrimp cocktail, I ordered the orange roughy, and my husband ordered pesto tortellini. The shrimp was tasty and very large. Served with a cute little tobasco sauce. The roughy was also very good with a flavorful sauce and large portion. My husband's pasta was honestly the best thing we tried! Super flavorful and herby pesto. Our server did a good job and we never had to look around wondering when we would be served so they seem to have improved somewhat in this area. However, other aspects of service are still lacking and this seems to be coming from the kitchen. The kitchen does not know how to pace at all so they make you put in apps and entrees at the same time otherwise "it will get all backed up." In an effectively running kitchen that should not happen. All the entrees and sides were also brought at different times. My fish first, then a while later my husband's pasta, then even later the sides. That was also apparently going on at other tables as we heard others asking where parts of their food was. Gotta get the kitchen running better. The portions are also strange and menu set up is odd. The pasta is apparently supposed to be a course between apps and entrees so it's actually not enough for a meal. However, as stated they are not running efficiently enough to do any kind of coursed anything. The pasta is also still serves at entree pricing. Overall, good food and table service was good. The service was friendly on Saturday night and the tiny side dishes were very tasty and different from the typical restaurants.We had to sit outside as it was way to noisy for us inside, unfortunatley gangs of passsing motorcyles were obnoxious, My wifes Salmon was way undercooked although she requested well done, my steak was very Rare despite being requested Medium Rare, I ate it and it was fine. I think they were short on servers that night, as for the cook on grill i think he was just inexperienced. The complimentary Tiramisu was just OK and not traditional. For the food the fried provolone was tasty despite not looking appealing. The house garlic bread was really nice. The spicy pasta was just ok. Lacked depth of flavor. Steak was most disappointing part of the meal. Was tough had no real flavor clearly relying on the sauces. The roasted potatoes were not good. Overly sauced and not crispy. Went for Valentine's Day. A nice vibe to the restaurant. Our waiter was so sweet and attentive. I wish I could remember his name I know he had dimples ! Our food was amazing. We tried the octopus for an appetizer, wow !!! We both did steaks (Kansas/NY cut). Again amazing and cooked to perfection. We finished off with a fudge cake with gelato (I think). Amazing !!!! Wish I could rate this higher, perhaps they will work out the kinks in time. We sat at the lovely outdoor bar, and you could tell the staff were overwhelmed. The kitchen was backed up and the food was slow. We ordered the house salad and a pasta to start. The salad said it had candied walnuts, but came with regular walnuts (it was one of the reasons we got it, so a bit disappointing). The pasta never arrived - our bartender said initially, it was coming, just a little behind. 60 minutes later he comes by to apologize and say "they ran out of pasta" (that is a first - who runs out of non-homemade pasta). We also ordered the bone in rib eye, with carrots and fries as the sides. Took 90 minutes to get it, but the steak was cooked perfectly (my only gripe is they put a bunch of garlic on the steak - should just be salt, maybe pepper). The brought the fries, but never brought the carrots. I'm sure I could have asked for them to fix it - but again, they were overwhelmed, so I let it slide. All in - there's potential here, they just need better management/organization (and no garlic on steak). read more

As a girl's night tradition, my friends and I look to find a new restaurant to try, and Salvatore's Steakhouse did not disappoint. The location does lend itself to some tricky parking; however, after having already parked, I was informed the lot in the back has spots for customers. The restaurant interior was beautifully decorated with ample and comfortable seating. The menu offers a large selection of drinks and food choices. All the entrees (including steak dishes!) came with the choice of two sides. I ordered the American lamb loin chops with a side of wild mushroom sauté and spinach with parmesan pesto. The loin chops were 3 5oz portions, cooked to the perfect temperature, and each packed with flavor and not much fat. The sides were a generous portion, resulting in the need to take some leftovers of my meal. My friends had ordered the steak and fish and were also happy and satisfied with their meals. Went in last pm for drinks and met up with some friends. It looked beautiful and the crowd was good so I was excited to order a craft cocktail. I ordered a paper plane which is precisely 4 ingredients equal parts and it is important to measure to get the drink balanced properly. I watched the bartender Freeport the ingredients and give me a drink so heavy on the bourbon. It was disgusting. He saw my face and offered to make it again which I appreciated. I mentioned to him you have to measure out the ingredients to make the drink properly...he then did it again... free pour. Three times this bar to attempted to make the drink and each time I say it's done I will just drink this... He said " no I want to make it right." I asked him to please measure the ingredients and he declined to do so and told me I was difficult and to order a beer. How lame. I go to so many high end places where bartenders seek to make your drink outstanding. I will NEVER be back there. read more

Came here during what I think was their soft opening. At least I hope it was, because there's really no other excuse for how terrible the food was. The fried provolone was DRENCHED in oil. And somehow it tasted like the oil had gone bad, which is like... how? Didn't they just open? How do you screw up fried cheese? Then I had the filet mignon. I asked how the chef recommends the steak, which was apparently a stupid question because they brought me a burnt gray brick of a "steak" that I wouldn't feed my dog. When I asked for a new one, it took 45 minutes. By the time I got my steak everybody I was with was done eating. And the steak was still overdone. The wine was fine, I suppose, so at least they didn't screw up opening the bottle. I've since heard that the owner is a rabid Trump supporter, so there is no way I will ever be going back to give them another shot. Our experience at Salvatore's in Hamden, CT. was the worse dining experience ever. Let me explain. We had a 4:45 dinner reservation so our older daughter could go into work at 7. We got to restaurant and it was empty and the hostess sat us at the back room where's there's a kitchen and bar right by the door to the back outside. I did not like the seating and got upset and told the hostess. She replied " we have reservations at the other tables" and I said "I made this reservation weeks ago. The hostess asks "did you ask for a specific room" I didn't even answer as I was livid. She's comes back a few minutes later and offers to move us and I said "no" but my husband said "yes." We moved and when she sat us she said "just so you know we have a 6 pm reservation for this table." I looked at my watch and it was 4:45! So to say the least I was again annoyed again and felt that was rude. I wanted to leave but the girls and my husband said "Let's stay." Finally, we ordered drinks and an appetizer along with our meal as they said it all had to be put in together. The drinks and apps came at a reasonable time but the food didn't. Tables that sat after us were getting their food and our daughter was getting worried because she had to leave for work as it was 6:07 and she asked the waitress to please pack her dinner to go but that never came, so at around 6:27 she left. Now, my husband is upset and went up to the manager and spoke to him outside (very courteous) and told him the situation and asked to just charge us for the app and drinks we had but that we were leaving. He said fine and brought us the check. The manager comes over to tell us the food is at the window( I lost it) I said I don't want it because I didn't want to wait anymore. We paid and tipped her (none of this was her fault) and the manager brought us the food to go (no charge). We get home to eat the Mother's Day meal and our one of our meals was missing and one of the meals did not have the sides ordered. To say the least, I will never, ever go there nor recommend the place. Their customer service needs improvement. Very disappointed. Do better. read more

Because the menu had some different things ( as if it wasn't one of the Best steakhouse menus already ) haha . So we found out they try to change it monthly wow , love that concept So with that I had to try the "Wellington " now this was a pork not a beef and all I can say is if you're lucky enough to go when it's on the menu , get it . Oh my goodness, tender and perfect pastry crust . Everything was Delicious and the service this time by Heather was beyond exceptional. Courtesy and attentive to all her patrons . First off...I can't eat red meat, digestive issues, but I would sacrifice the pain and discomfort after seeing what neighboring tables had ordered. We did not have a reservation but took a chance to see if we could sit at the bar. Bar was packed but the hostess made quick arrangements and seated us in the dining room. That's how you run a restaurant! I'm super impressed with the professionalism and hospitality right off the clip. Upon entering, the space was totally gutted from its previous tenant and transformed into this stunning modern Italian steakhouse. Beautiful Job! Waitstaff were engaging and polite. Food came out promptly and hot. I started with the risotto balls. Fried to perfection. Good size to fill up on. Moved on to the Panzanilla salad. Again, good portion size. This will be a great item for outdoor dining during the summer. My son got the fried provolone which he enjoyed and an entree of chicken thighs that were so damn juicy. They have fresh pasta courses that can be ordered with an entree if desired, they're not a main course. I got one and it is a smaller portion but a filling portion. Just enough and what I was looking for. Wine list should keep all of the Caymus fanboys happy. Not a list I'm interested in but for a new restaurant you gotta go with the greatest hits until you get some feedback as to what people are looking for and willing to spend on. Word of advise, tell CDI to take a hike. Cocktails were very good and I mean very good. My manhattan had the proper cherry in it so I'm more than pleased with that touch. My son had a limoncello spritz which he enjoyed. I had a small sip and it was refreshing, again, would be even better for outdoor summer dining. The food at Salvatore's is delicious and presented well. We have been here 4 or 5 times now. We have eaten at the bar and at tables inside and outside. When it is crowded inside it can be loud to the point of unpleasant so we prefer outside at these busy times or we try to come after the dinner rush. I was a little disappointed when I asked how many oysters came in an appetizer and the wait staff told me four which is perfect for sharing. However there was only three, if I ask I expect the correct answer and if you are not sure, say so and go back and ask the kitchen staff. Otherwise the service was fine. read more

It's not my nature to be overly critical, however this may be the exception. From the moment you enter the noise level is deafening, mostly from those enjoying an alcoholic libation at the bar. We were promptly greeted at the table (next to the bar) by our server and he was both pleasant and responsive, so that was good. Then the food started to arrive and it all went downhill FAST and I mean FAST! My margarita had absolutely no flavor at all, none, and trust me I've had my share of margaritas! I requested an additional shot of lime juice to give some flavor. The salad I ordered had so much dressing it was uneditable. The NY Strip arrived, cooked to the temperature requested, however again NO Flavor, with not a hint of taste. The mashed potatoes, (no baked potato available, a "steak house" with no baked potato?) were so Over Seasoned with nutmeg you couldn't taste the potato and I'm not sure if they were instant potatoes. What an awesome addition to Hamden restaurants. My wife and I were out for a very rare date night / early celebration of our upcoming anniversary. We rarely get out together, especially without our kids, so this was a sepcial occasion for us. I manage a nice restaurant in the New Haven area and Salvatore's has been reccomended to me by both guests and my own staff. We were really excited to check it out, and needless to say, It lived up to the reccomendations and then some. As we walked up, there is a beautiful outdoor bar that catches your eye as soon as you see the restaurant. I definitely plan on getting a cocktail there while the weather still permits. Once inside, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess and welcomed to the restaurant. Though we had a reservation for a table, we decided to start at the bar for a glass of wine and appetizer. The restuarant has beautiful decor and really caters to the romantic evening my wife and I were looking for. Our bartender, David, was very friendly and gave us great reccomendations After a glass of wine (Caymus) and some really good Arancini, my wife and I headed to a table. They generously gave us a large booth and our dinner began. Our server Mike came up immediately and introduced himself. My wife and I had already studied the menu thoroughly at the bar and dove right into our dinner order. All the food looked great, and I wish we could have ordered it all, but we ended up getting the roasted bone marrow, Veal T-Bone, and the Delmonico steak. All the entrees include 2 sides, which is a rare thing for steakhouses these days. We went with the carrots, potatoes, olive tapenade, and mushrooms--each one was amazing. Both proteins were generously portioned, cooked, and seasoned perfectly. They also have a great wine list, and I can say as a restaurant person that the prices are exceptionally reasonable both for wine and food. We had a bottle of Groth Cabernet, which would cost double at most other establishments. For dessert, we had their white chocolate Oreo mousses, which was the perfect finish to our indulgent and outstanding meal. I wish I had taken pictures, but the food was just too good to wait. As far as service, Mike was awesome, and the manager, Manny, made sure to come by and make sure we were having a great evening--which we were. Shout out to our server Mike. He is the nicest guy on the planet and took great care of us. Manny and David were both excellent as well. All in all, service 10/10, wine 10/10, food 11/10 . You'd be hard-pressed to find such great food at such reasonable prices anywhere else in the greater New Haven area. Highly recommend to anyone. Thank you to the team at Salvatore's for a wonderful evening. We will certainly be back. P.S. All the other reviews that mention the lack of parking are misleading. Anyone who's dined in a big city is used to restaurants without parking lots. There's tons of street parking in the immediate area, and my wife and I had no trouble parking right in front. I would gladly walk a mile to eat here again. With a wine list like that, you probably want to uber anyways. read more

First (and last) time here last night. As soon as we (6) were seated we were told that we had 1:45 to finish since they were crowded. We ordered 2 apps, truffle fries and meatballs. They were ok but over priced given the portion. The seafood pastry casserole was more pastry than seafood. 3 small shrimp, 3 scallops and 3 small pieces of lobster. Not worth the $38 price tag. The steaks were good. But we couldn't understand the $2 extra charge for the Mac/cheese 1/2 side. But the most aggravating issue was a $4 up charge for a splash of olive juice in a vodka martini. read more

We read a previous review commenting on how noisy the dining room was. As we approached the hostess stand, we could hear the noise. We started to walk out but they offered to put us un a rear banquet room. This was great till they put a party of 12 with us.Noisy but tolerable. My Delmonico steak was delicious. My date had a shrimp dish. Very rich but tasty. Service was very, very slow. They gave us 3 rounds of excellent garlic bread to keep us busy. Went here the beginning of Dec. 2025 for an 88th birthday party. There were 11 of us and we made reservations well in advance. We were never told that our table was in the bar area. It was very cramped and extremely loud. However, the food was very good and our steaks were awesome. I would go back with a small group. We went opening weekend and sat at the bar. It was very busy and a little chaotic, which was to be expected for the first weekend. The food was wonderful, started with the seafood bisque and we shared the shrimp sambuca and the octopus carpaccio (my fav). For entrees I had the halibut toscana and my partner had a steak. The bar manager checked in on us and was so helpful with choosing a bottle of wine and making some cocktail recommendations. What a great addition to the neighborhood! I take my toddler here and he loves the pasta in the red pepper sauce. This was my first time visiting this heavently restaurant, Salvatore's Steakhouse in Hamden, CT, which feels like it was designed in heaven. The place was very crowded because the food is truly exceptional, as if it were cooked by angels. I came with my family to celebrate my son's birthday. He is a talented guitarist in the bands Wxther and Pull the Curtain, and a graduate of UCONN and Berklee College of Music. Our service was outstanding and very efficient. The aromas of the dishes around us created a gastronomic symphony that delighted our senses and whetted our appetites. The food was excellent, and the servers--well-trained in customer service--deserve the highest praise. Received.4 pieces of Italian bread strips -good. Ordered 1 porterhouse steak to share with 2 sides. For the next 45 min we patiently waited for our dinner with multiple apologies from 2 servers. One kind server who brings the water asked if we wanted anything, not unless there was no charge. I didn't think an app would have arrived any sooner. As we finished our drinks, we chose to leave. Too hungry to wait any longer and enough good restaurants in the area who would serve us much sooner & with much more respect. Watched many tables receive their dinners and desserts.
