We love walking to Victor's for weekend breakfast or for a lazy afternoon of chatting and board games. They have great "dessert" coffees, their bread pudding is out of this world, and their fresh homemade tomato basil soup warms the soul on a cloudy day. The staff are friendly, have an artistic bent, and seem to really enjoy their jobs. It makes for a good experience. The restaurant could benefit from a little interior updating, and their cash-only policy is a bit archaic and has caused us to have to detour to another coffee shop after realizing we forgot cash. My experience was just with the beverages and the cinnamon roll that I got (the Cinnavon and Mandarin Mocha) and both were done really well (if your intention is to have a dessert-like espresso drink). I went in and got exactly what I wanted. I did try their regular drip coffee and I probably wouldn't go back for that. Seems like people had some issues in the past with customer service or having to wait in line but everything was totally fine when I went (plus I'm more concerned about the actual product than having to stand in line when the business is experiencing some IT issues). Really great coffee (when you get the right barista) but the overall demeanor towards customers by the older gentleman is truly unfortunate. I've experienced his lack of patience when ordering and what seemed to be displeasure dealing with me as a customer on more than one occasion. I was looking for a cafe that is not a part of a large chain, and heard about Victor's from my hair dresser. I've been there few times since, and their food & drinks are fine for the price. The service is less than ideal though - my husband asked for a heated milk but they must've forgotten. The barista's response: "Oh, we charge extra for that. I can ask the manager, if you want" Ask the manager for heated milk??? Why can't she simply say "oh, sorry, let me re-do it but I'll have to charge you extra"??? I like Victors a lot. It's probably my favorite coffee shop around here honestly. I love the building - It's old, with lots of wood and character. The coffee has always been great and the servers pleasant to deal with. I can understand folks not liking that it's cash only. I've had to borrow cash from friends on a couple occasions because I'd forgotten. I can't understand people being upset at the signage or lack of wifi. Victors just isn't a Starbucks. They don't want people coming in and just being stuck on a screen. Come in and be engaged. The signage is to make that clear, and does so in a way I find quite funny. So I'm sitting in Victors right now waiting for my coffee. And just as is has every time before, I'm sure it'll be good. And my service was great too. But what really has impressed me is how patient the barista is being with the high maintenance customer who came after me. It's almost closing time, and this lady is demanding that the toaster be turned back on for her bagel. And she's being impatient and hovering over the counter waiting for her coffee. The wonderful gal working graciously turned the toaster back on, is being cheerful and kind, and patient. Not a bad hangout spot. Large tables, small tables, tables reserved for large groups of 5 or more, cofee roasted on site, chai tea lates in GYNORMOUS cups, friendly servers and baristas. Pretty much its got what you need for your study or (in my case) knitting needs. Its sprawlingly large, crazy big... los of seating inside and out. The bathrooms are kept relatively clean though the garbage can could have used emptying both times I went in there within a 4 hour period. The chai was tasty but nothing over the top amazing, the coffee drinks i was told were also quite tasty with beautiful barista art topped foams. My only major complaints rest with the seating itself, the chairs were uncomfortable stiff backed ones and the bench seats were church pew style. Not the most comfortable thing for such an inviting atmosphere. Put some poofy over stuffed couches in here and it would have been a winner. Oh yeah and they only accept cash so don't bring a card... I forgot that and was a little annoyed. There are no banks within walking distance so suck it up and make it a point to hit the atm before you go. read more

This wouldn't be the first small business in the world to have some overreactive, emotional vendetta against credit card processors. I'm sure it will be a very lonely battle, but what really matters at Victor's is the coffee, not the form of payment. The coffee roast tastes great and i might be even inclined to purchase some for home. The microfoam and sweetness has been hit and miss, which leads me to believe that not all of their baristas have the same skill level. With such a void of good coffee joints in the Redmond area, Victor's sadly wins by default. This does not mean it's bad, I just really have no choice in the matter. Victor's roasts their own coffee, tops orders with latte art, and has that rustic indie feel inside. Baristas are not required to perform awkward small talk with plastic smiles (What did you do this last amazing weekend? Oh, my dog got ran over/etc), which makes the experience much more relaxing. It seems that the business owner has put the task of making generally great coffee above all else, including revenue and popularity. It's not overly crowded. This is probably due to: No WIFI gimmicks that gobble up valuable seating at peak times...and also, by avoiding the debit card processing fee of $0.29 for an $10.90 coffee and sandwich. Number one, locally owned. No outlets means people are having conversations with real people face to face. The coffee is amazing, porcelain mug is deliciouly cozy. Hardwood floors make me feel at home. I carry cash; a life without plastic is a life worth living. Old school needs to be preserved; Starbucks tries to squash places like this. Home-cooked edibles on site exist for a reason, to put our dollars where our mouth is when we think "buy local". They even have fresh squeezed orange juice in the cooler. Ok, maybe I'm spoiled. But, this is my favorite coffee house thus far in the state of WA. It's not your typical "Starbucks." which I am so sick of. Here you get coffee in flavors that are way more yummier ( is that a word? ) than any other coffee house. Almond Mocha Rocha ( kissed with a touch of chocolate whip cream ) YUM!!!! I met a client there with a full charge, and only stayed 30 minutes. The great experience brought me to meet a 2nd client the following week....I decided to stay and work for a bit and then realized/was told that there are no outlets except behind the register. Excellent coffee. I enjoyed a standard cup of drip coffee, black. It was well balanced, but slightly citrusy and acidic, without strong bitter flavors like you'd find in a cup of Charbucks. Even though they were busy, the owner re-toasted my bagel because it evidently didn't satisfy his standards. That they care about so simple a thing was a nice touch. Ignore the haters castigating this place for its want of wifi and "no laptop" policy. They need to stay in business, and the fact that they don't cater to leeches is a testament to their focus on the drinks. If you want free wifi or a place to chill for hours, go to Starbucks or just stay in your parents' basement. If you want good coffee and old-school cafe ambience, Victor's is a great choice. The coffee is pretty good, and its one of the few non-corporate coffee places on the East Side. The biggest complaint I have about Victor's is the lack of Wi-Fi. I want to like Victor's. It's an independent espresso bar with great pastries. But when I think of getting coffee I only go there if I'm REALLY craving one of their pastries. My iced latte is often weak (needs more ice so there is less milk. The hot version is good.) And my order usually has an issue...wrong item, not heated, they forget about it. Etc. Today they forget my pastry twice. I noticed others had been waiting a while to get theirs so I waited too. After I noticed the pastry I had ordered was quickly running out, I asked. They apologized that it was forgotten. They thought someone else must have taken mine. So they grabbed another and put it in the micro. And promptly forgot about it. Again. I had to ask for it. They need better organization...maybe tickets or numbers for the pastry like they do with the lunch items. I really want to like going to Victor's. The people are friendly, but the service just isn't there. And the lack if wifi just seems mean. Better options: Kringles Bakery and Hoffman's Bakery. read more

It tastes chocolatey, albeit there is no chocolate in the drink. THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT. THEY DO NOT HAVE WIFI. But, you know what? I like that. It keeps the place simple.
