To be fair Victors is one of the last quaint places to go in Redmond. Up until today it was my favorite coffee place. It is inexcusable for the owner of the business to treat paying customers as if they are an annoyance. Due to a foot injury I was resting the outside of my foot on the edge of the seat... not in the middle of the seat, and not my whole foot. "Take it down. It looks bad!" When I pursued his attitude and my reason, he just became more belligerent. Seriously, if a person comes into your business two or three times a week and spends about $10 (ON COFFEE AND SCONES) you'd think the appropriate thing to say is, "I'm sorry, can I get a towel or something for you to rest your foot on so that the seat doesn't get dirty?" It's not as if I am incapable of understanding his reasons, I just think his PR skills are abysmal. Go to Soulfood Books next door then come in for lunch and a read at Victor's. The coffee is great - especially the Irish Nudge. Save room for food, since the bread bowl soups are fantastic. I love Victor's :) Victor himself is so nice and personable. The coffee is great, and about the same price as every other coffee place. Yes you have to pay in cash, but for Pete's sake, calm down about it, there are ATMs everywhere. Many people complain about the Wifi- It's one of my favorite things about Victors, and here's why: Victor wants people to be able to come in, sit down, enjoy coffee. What a novel idea! Most Seattle coffee shops, on any given day, will be completely full in every seat of people with laptops who have obviously been there for hours, and have no intention of moving any time soon. So people like me, who actually want to sit and enjoy coffee and conversation, are usually forced to get coffee to go because all the seats are taken by laptop people. I hate it! If you are going to do 5 hours of computer work, do it at home instead of taking up a seat at a business establishment! Argh. Anyway so Victor tries to discourage that by charging for Wifi. The point is, this is a European style, hippy type coffee shop. It is refreshing. Redmond is full of people that want to sit for hours with their laptops or phones and sip a $1 drip coffee. Go up the street to that "other" place, Victors isn't about that. It is about amazing pastries, perfect espresso and personable conversation with your significant. I love this place. Best coffee I've had on the eastside. I giggle deep inside when the owner kicks people out with their laptops and loud kids in tow. I have been a long time fan of Victors, still think they have the best coffee in town and their bread pudding is amazing. So, if rating on coffee and food alone I would give them a 5. The fact that they do not have WIFI for a coffee shop is a differentiator, and not a big deal for me. Kind of refreshing. I was however very disappointed when I wanted to introduce my 11 year old to the bread pudding, and do some work on my laptop, and was told by an employee (I think the owner) I could not use my laptop there. Turns out if I wanted to use it I would have to leave. Ended up getting to-go cups, and enjoyed the coffee and pudding at the park. read more

There are few coffee shops in Redmond that are worthy of mention, but Victor's Coffee is one of my favorite coffee spots in the Seattle area. I discovered Victor's Coffee while riding the 545 repeatedly for a few months, but never got the chance to stop in there until I started hitching a ride. The place always looked like this slightly better than hole-in-the-wall coffee shop, but I was still drawn to them because I was aching for something other than Starbucks for a change. The first time I finally got to visit, I was faced with the issue and the subsequent reason I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5: they only take cash or check, no debit or credit cards. I understand this is probably a financial decision on their part, or, as I've heard from others, "to keep all those damn Microsoft people away." But the thing is that it's such a pain in the ass to carry cash, I rarely do, and as a result I that time and several other times since then have had to pass up Victor's because I didn't have any cash on me. If they ever allow cards, I will bump them up to 5 stars. Enough focus on the payment issue, it's time to focus on the positives of Victor's (which are numerous). This place has the best coffee I've had in Redmond to date, hands down. The drinks are delicious, reasonably-priced and are never too strong or too weak - they're just right every time. In addition to that, the service has always been great. I've never seen any of the issues the other reviewers have put out there regarding the owner, though I must admit I've only stayed and drank my coffee in the shop twice, always on the run to work. The baristas and servers are young and trendy to the point where you almost double-take thinking you're on Capitol Hill, but alas, you're in the 'burbs. That being said, the service from them has always been lovely. Every time I've popped in there I've been treated very well and served my beverage very promptly and with a smile. It makes going into Victor's a very nice experience for me. Others have commented on the decor of the store needing an update, I personally love it! It feels less like your run-of-the-mill coffee shop and more like a lodge which is a lovely and unique experience, I think. I have, however, seen a lot of the signs posted about limiting laptop time, which at first irked me quite a bit, but I understand. In a city full of technology companies with employees notorious for squatting in coffee shops for hours on end (I'm guilty of this, too), it's important to make sure to keep space open for everyone else. I've been in there in the morning and it's been great to see the little groups of people from the community sitting and chatting over a cup of coffee. I'd rather see that than a sea of one-off people staring at their computer screen with headphones in. Nothing against that because I do this, too, but I think Victor's isn't the right spot for this, and they know this and make it apparent. That being said, don't be deterred by the rules. This place is really great and features a wide variety of drinks and pastries to suit whatever mood you're in. The best scenario in which you should visit Victor's is if you want a lovely morning either with your friends or just today's newspaper, you have a pocket of cash and you want to just kick back and relax with the best cup of coffee in Redmond. read more

A small local coffee shop...yes an alternative to Starbucks Coffee. This place serves some high quality coffee, cheaper than the big chains, with a smaller personal atmosphere. My visit was on a friday night so I was fortunate enough to see the live music there; a young woman playing acoustic and singing accompanied by a bass guitar player. The live music, the excellent coffee and the cool outdoor porch really set this place apart from the Starbucks and Tully's coffee shops. Only problem is it is usually pretty crowded, but it makes for easy conversation among people. read more

I grind and brew my own coffee at home, so I only get the whole bean coffee whenever I come into the coffee shop. I'm quite a coffee snob and know what good coffee should taste like and I feel that Victor's is always freshly roasted and never sitting on the shelf. Yes, they only accept cash and I receive good service each time I come in. The one time I didn't have cash on me, they pointed out the three banks across the street and said I could take my coffee with me to sip on my way to the atm; they trusted that I wouldn't run off with my $2 cup of coffee without paying for it, so that says something about the level of customer service they have. I recently tried one of their competitor's beans, ground just enough to taste it, then used the rest to clean out my Mazzer. I swiftly went back to Victor's to get some good tasting beans and will never stray again! read more

I used to love this place when I used to work nearby, but it has gone seriously downhill since then. The atmosphere these days is downright uncomfortable. They still make a decent cup of coffee but there is NO WIFI, NO POWER (they have even covered the outlets that were there!) and nowhere comfortable to sit. It's a shame this has gone so badly wrong. UPDATE: Now even the coffee is half-hearted and laced with apathy. I just got a cappuccino that was cold and something reminiscent of Starbucks. The milk was foamed and put in the cup. I went in to meet a friend and asked for a pour over at the counter. After the barista taking my order consulted with a seemingly more experienced barista about whether or not she was supposed to "just pour it over ice", I realized that neither knew what pour over was. I tried to explain it to them hoping that they simply called it by a different name, but after being asked, "is that how you make turkish coffee?", I was told that "oh our drip machines do that for us". So I ended up with a cup of very mediocre drip. It was a great atmosphere and the baristas were both kind and patient, but perhaps not as knowledgable as they should be. Excellent coffee, tasty pastries, quick service, unique and comfortable interior. The laid-back, friendly attitudes here are much better than the hyper kids at some of the coffee chains. My wife comes here more than I do, and neither of us have ever had a problem with any of the staff, including the owner. Yeah it's an inconvenience sometimes that they don't take plastic, but just stop by one of the 300 banks in Redmond for some green. Easy. read more

My favorite coffee shop near Redmond. Not only great coffee but great place to conduct business. It is cash only but you can get a card and load it via paypal on the spot. If you can spend time there, sit and enjoy, the place is great. Artists are hanging their work there for sale and it is changing so you won't be bored. I love the fact they cook their own coffee beans. I wish there were more places like this one. Coffee is so good, I usually leave with a pack for the times I want to make it at home. read more

This is the coffee shop that I wish I could have taken back with me to LA! I fell in love with the rustic, unpretentious atmosphere and how the drinks were served in real cups (take that, Starbucks!). During our three days in Seattle, we came here each morning. The Irish Nudge (mocha with Irish Cream and homemade chocolate whipped cream) was delicious and the homey bread pudding fresh out of the oven was amazingly good, topped with caramelized pears and sugar. The waffles (your choice of pumpkin or buckwheat) with plenty of freshly sliced strawberries and whipped cream ($6) were among the best I have ever had. I miss you, Victors! read more

The coffee, the latte art, pastries, staff and atmosphere all more than compensate for initial, minor inconveniences. Victor's Celtic Coffee Company will probably look and feel the same in ten years as it did this morning. The same as it did in 2K. This establishment is a statement against the "progress" of so many coffee houses, a protest against machines doing the work because they are cheaper, more consistent and quicker. Came in on a Sunday to read a book and work on a paper using my laptop and the owner immediately after I sat down and received my coffee came over to inform me that I needed to leave because laptops were not allowed on Sundays. He did not thank me for my business or apologize for the inconvenience, he insisted we leave and walked away as if to make a scene. I have been going to Victors for years - about 10 to be a little more specific. I'm now part of a Mommy/Baby group and we like to frequent the shop, as it's usually a good vibe. Well, today was a different story! The group of us (about 10 or so Moms) met for coffee and nearly everyone ordered something. I had a sandwich and cup of coffee. We had been there chatting and Walter, the owner, came over and asked us to leave saying that he needed parking for other customers. We were appalled, as this isn't good customer service, the parking lot was not full, and there were tables available for new customers coming into the shop. I can't believe the owner of a business is comfortable treating his customers in such a rude manner. I felt as though Walter needed to hear that we were offended by his poor customer service, so another Mom and I spoke to him about how he shouldn't be kicking his customers out. He was defensive saying "you don't even know what it's like to run a small business" (um-my husband is a small business owner!). All we wanted was a apology for being treated this way. Instead, he justified his behavior. Not only will I not be going back, but neither will our group of Moms. It's a shame too. We like to support the local businesses - but not this one anymore! read more

I like to patronize independent coffee shops but this place has now dropped off my list. I'm not a table hog and don't stay longer than my drink lasts. Been here once thus far. Experience is as follows: Sunday morning. HUGE LINE. Cute atmosphere though and line seemed to be moving quickly. Didn't know they don't except cards and didn't have cash so felt weird writing a check for coffee. Gentleman at the register unfriendly and I assumed this must be Walter since I read reviews for Victors before stopping in. Seems like someone you wouldn't want to piss off. Coffee however was delicious, smooth, not too sweet (I had an almond latte). Boyfriend had almond roca type thing?? Too syrupy for me. We managed to snag a table. There were signs posted on the walls that banned computers and studying on weekends and limited computer time during the weekdays to a hour I think?? I get it, but still would deter me from going there if I wanted to drink coffee and study and thus losing business.... Will be back, but maybe not on a Sunday morning. I WOULD GIVE THIS SHOP NEGATIVE STARS IF YELP ALLOWED ME TO. TERRIBLE service. My son is allergic to dairy, nuts, eggs, and soy. Therefore, there is nothing he can eat at the coffee shop. We had brought some food with us into the store especially for him, thinking that the manager would understand our situation. WE WERE DEAD WRONG. I tried explaining to the manager and I told him how we were still going to purchase food for the rest of the family but he did not even bother listening. As I explained, all he did was say "NO NO NO NO". As a parent, I became extremely angry and immediately left. It is not anybody's fault that my son was born allergic to things and we were still going to purchase food from their shop. The manager/owner was simply too HEARTLESS to take time and listen to our situation. Afterwards, we went to Starbucks and they had no problem with us bring food for my son. oh my. my first cappuccino here was a 4 or 5 star deal. i thought victor's was going to be right up there with cream of the crop. however, having now gone back 2x more, they are OFF my list of good espresso places. today, i ordered a small (which should really be the only size), and they gave me a HUGE 16 oz. cappuccino that tasted only like a latte despite having 4 inches of foam on top. foam that was dripping all over the place. DISGUSTING! the last time i came, it was the right size, but again, there's a difference between a latte and cappuccino, and they don't get it. too bad. i actually suspect it's a barrista issue. i'm under the impression that there's a second team here and they are in charge pretty often. not coming back. read more

This is an interesting coffee place. It's got a vintage look to it. They DoNot accept any cards, but they are willing to accept cheques. Who carries cheques around these days anyway? I didn't get to try anything but a drip coffee since I only had 2 dollars on me. The coffee is self serve the mugs provided are questionable for cleanness. But overall it has an old time charm I'm willing to come back to try their pastries. However, I watched the barista pull her shots. 1.) she used old coffee that was already ground before I placed my order 2.) she barely tamped 3.) the shots were about 11 seconds which means bitter espresso, right when I saw my shots pulled it was all over. I love coffee, and have personally been a barista for over 5 years and I live in Seattle. So needless to say, my standards are high with in comes to coffee. My drink of choice here is the cappuccino and although it is not the traditional technique of making it, without a doubt this is the best on I have ever had! I like the atmosphere, and the food and drinks. My friend says she can no longer stand Starbucks after sampling the coffee here. But I come to Victor's to boost my self-esteem, not my caffeine intake. How do I know I'm glamorous, we're glamorous? Victor's is the place to go if you are in Redmond and want some coffee! In terms of quality, the coffee is great and I love that they roast it themselves. The only downside to Victor's is that it is very popular which often times makes it difficult to find parking. I am signing up on Yelp for the sole purpose of sharing my experience at Victor's, an establishment I will never patronize again. Despite the fact that the place is a nice walk from my home and I like supporting independent businesses, I won't be back. A few weeks ago I took a writer friend there. I met her at the transit center and we walked over. This is an important detail, as you'll find later on. When we arrived, the place was packed. We both bought food and coffee and found a table in the corner. We talked about poetry, did a little writing, and we were there for about 2 hours -- a long time, but not unheard of for a coffee shop hang -- over this time, the place had emptied out. I start noticing the grouchy proprietor (not Victor, I'm told, but a guy named Walter who bought the place from Victor about 10 years ago) shooting looks at us. Eventually he comes over and tells us that we've been there too long. That's right -- he's kicking out two customers from an otherwise empty cafe who are quietly talking. I point out to him that the place is empty and he can't be concerned about us taking up parking spaces because we both came on foot. Doesn't matter, he snarks back. "If people see people hanging around in here, they'll think they can do it, too." Oh, and when I've shared this story with friends, every single one of them has shared a similar story of their own or from an acquaintance. How does this business survive? No problem, Walter. Growing up in Redmond this was a common place and favorite place For my family and friends to meet for coffee. I was not crazy about their customer service (and Walter the owner) and I was not crazy about their no credit Card policy either.... But I let it slide since I liked theirs drinks. Just recently I have had two experiences At this coffee house that will make me never go back there again. I don't know if Walter likes to makes his customers never come back but he sure does it well. Today I asked for my drink to be remade because I thought it was too strong And He said that he could not do it cause The shot would cost him 50 cents to pour and make it over again. And last time I was there I had bought a pastry and coffee and went to study in the lounge. They have a 1 hr studying limit to Be courteous to other customers so others can have a seat ( no problem I get that) I was pushing that one hour limit and he came up and asked me to leave but here Is the kicker.....I was the only one in the whole lounge studying . There were a number of other tables open for people to sit. So all to say, I will not be a customer of victors anymore because of the way he Runs his business. I give them 2 Stars because ...
