The employees at the store were extremely friendly and apologetic. What I appreciated most was the gave us the name of the other store in Garden Grove in hopes that they could help. Been going here for about 3 years to get games resurfaced since he did them for an affordable price and he was always kind when me and another person came in. Here's the thing and why I'm writing a bad review the past three times I've gone in as of recently he's been a bit rude the first two times he resurfaced the game but not to the same quality he used to and would give attitude when we said it wasn't the same quality it used to be the second time he told us to go somewhere else when we said something. Which I really liked coming here and would love to come back but we came back a final time which third time is the charm as I said and we wanted to try again this time the guy flat out said "nope I don't wanna do it" and we left. If this is how you're treating people for who have been coming for years then you need to improve your customer service and be a bit nicer to people. read more

Been to this shop few times. The staff is friendly, personable, and professional. They have a good variety of common and rare games. Overall the last few visits I've gotten some banger common games like Lord of the Rings Return of the King at a reasonable price. I've also gotten some repairs done for my Dreamcast when no other repair or retro shops in the area would take the job. It was done very quickly, same day when reviews of other shops would be weeks. Overall this shop feels like it's run by legit honest people, in a time where many more retro shops are looking to over charge post pandemic/video game grading bubble. One of the best parts of this place is how knowledgeable the staff is about their games and systems. Everything is priced fairly and its fun to just go in and talk to them about games. They probably have some of the best selection of gamecube games out of all the socal game stores especially as they get harder and harder to find. They test all their games on the spot and ive never gotten bad products from them. Also they're just super helpful i even brought in a wii i bought online for cheap that didnt have the hookups and they tested that for me to see if it worker, then gave me a good deal on third party hookups!! Found this place after getting back into retro games and was very impressed with the whole experience. The selection is insane but only if you dig Xbox specifically 360 and Xbox One and Wii. They have Switch, GameCube, and PlayStation, yes but when we went the selection outside of 8th gen was a little low and Gameboy games were a sort of desert. Loved the selection of other stuff like hotwheels, cards, and funkos as well. Prices were relatively close to market value anywhere else and I loved how the guys were meticulous to make sure my copies were cleaned and presentable prior to purchase. PROS: Prices are fair and generally in the range of sold eBay listings, so you're definitely getting decent deals. They have a good amount of retro games for pretty much all consoles. The store owner is really great and honest, he takes in trades but also let me know that it's always best to sell my games on eBay . CONS: There's very few rare games available. Don't shop here. First, the single employee there in the shop sits in a back room that has a little window into the store and ignores you until you show interest in something. I've had to walk over to the door that is behind a counter to get an employee's attention before to get service (this has been the same experience every single time I've been there going on several years.) This is not a big shop so there's no reason I should have to chase an employee down to get service. Next they sell defective product. I bought a Super Nintendo from them about 6 months ago (from when I'm writing this) and the output was filled with green lines all over the place on the screen no matter what I did. I ended up having to get it fixed myself because they don't do repairs (while I admit it was cheap to get it fixed, I still had to do it.) I figured it was a one off and that you're not gonna win every single time you buy used. Boy was I wrong with this store. My next problem over defective product with this store was that I bought a controller from them and the joysticks don't work (I might add that their employee claimed it was tested and worked like new when I asked him in the store.). I called and asked what their return policy was for defective product and they offered me a trade of equivalent value and that was it. I told them I want my money back because it was sold to me under false pretense and the guy told me that I get a trade for it and that's it. I paid nearly full price for a USED controller that doesn't work($48) and then I ended up buying an identical brand new one sealed in its original box off the shelf elsewhere for almost the same price ($50.) Granted if the controller had worked, it was in good condition aesthetically so I wouldn't care that it was used but it's useless and they refuse to give me a refund for a product they claimed worked like new. Judging by comments made on other reviews, I'm sure the manager will comment on my review disparaging my review and my want for a refund. This place and the employees associated with it need some work with their customer service across the board. Maybe tell your employees not to lie about product to make sales. read more

Amazing customer service I went in looking for another gba sp charger as mine was making a weird humming noise. I didn't catch his name but he tried the charger before purchasing to make sure it didn't hum. I also came back to purchase something else after and he gave me a discount on a game. Aaron who I believe is the manager is always welcoming as well. Highly recommended this place if you need retro games there is a good collection of games and consoles will definitely be coming back! Met the new Aaron and was super helpful of helping me system check & get estimates of how to go about reselling them, as well as buyout quotes if I were to do a buyout with them. No pressure all relaxed zone. Aaron was really there for me to know exactly what I had at hand and the options I can go about it. I eventually chose to try to move the lot myself for now, but definitely have these guys in mind for any other potential network opps / moves. That really meant alot. On another note, these guys have a wide range of all the retro gaming stuff. From the first Atari to the PS4 / XBox One. This is a must visit for all video gamers and collectors / dealers. I came in expecting another vintage video game store expecting to find the same old over priced Vintage Games and Consoles, but it turned out to have really great prices for everything. Not even that, but the customer service is fantastic with everyone being super friendly and helpful there! I came in expecting to get nothing but walked out with Silent Hill HD collection on PS3, Skate 2, a ps2 memory card and a ps1 memory card. They also have video repairs and for a great price as well; I ended up getting a broken/old ps3 controller fixed and works like new! This place is my local game store from now on. read more

Can't remember the last time I actually wrote a yelp review but had to do one for this place. It's been a couple years since I shopped here and the last time I was in the store was under different management. The store looks basically the same but they actually stock all the games in store now prior to listing online. Pretty rare to see some titles being available on the store shelf at a reasonable price and actually being able to buy them instead of trying to outbid someone online. I ended up purchasing a good amount of stuff for myself and my kids. Loved the selection of older console titles they had (PS 1/2, Dreamcast, neo geo, SNES..etc...). Its been a long time since I had that feeling of being excited looking around a game store and finding things that I had not expected to see. I originally started shopping here back when there were just two guys (the owners) running the place. But stopped going in after their selection of rarer titles went online instead of instore. The management does it differently now and stocks in store first instead of online. Also, awesome customer service from the new management and staff of the store. They not only focused on me but also geared their questions towards my kids and what they wanted. It made my kids experience really special and ever since then they've been asking to go back to look around more. For some perspective, my son had not wanted to go into a game store anymore since having a bad experience at one of the other mainstream game stores. So this last trip to Video Game Geeks pretty much voided out his last experience and he is all for shopping in store now. For sure will be heading back to look around again and pick up more stuff. read more

Video Game Geeks is very reminiscent of a store I used to frequent called GameLand and for that I give them major credit. These small video game stores are exactly what I look for as opposed to the larger chain stores (ala Gamestop). This small store is located at Ball and Brookhurst near the Starbucks and Post Office. What I like about this store is the fact that it is not defined by simply the newest and greatest systems and games available. This store sells everything from Intellivision, NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, GameBoy all the way up to the current generation of consoles and games. They buy/sell games and offer a much better deal than Gamestop. You can trade in or sell games for store credit or cash (10% less than credit) and the staff is quite friendly. This is exactly the type of place I would like to see people support and keep in business as they offer a nice compliment to the major conglomerates. read more
