And they've also started adding video game soundtrack vinyls which is really dope and fits the vibe perfectly. The staff is also super cool and really knowledgeable without being overbearing. Just don't go in only to browse. Try to grab something if you can, even if it's just one of the anime themed sodas or a small piece of merch. The selection of Nintendo Switch games is unprecedented here! They have US games and foreign games that you'll never find at Target, Walmart or Best Buy. There aren't many retro gaming stores left in NYC, but this one has a few game options with good value. I visited another retro gaming store on the following day and their prices were too crazy high, even more than online. I returned here the next day to pickup some more games. Store layout: For the amount of things they had for sale, I think they made the best use of their space. That being said, it was a bit cramped - especially if people were on the same aisle as you. While so types of games were easy to browse, others weren't because they were either placed where you couldn't see what they were or the wording on the cases was too small/far away. However, as this is Yelp, I need to be completely honest, not only as a video game / vinyl collector, but as a customer. I had the opportunity to meet Dan, as well as a VGNY staff member, when visiting Long Island Retro Con at the Cradle of Aviation this past weekend. With them now primarily focusing on video game based vinyl soundtracks for expos, my eyes LIT UP when I saw their display at the convention. Having known about their storefront for years, it was the perfect opportunity to check them out! The wall of video game vinyl goodness they had was overwhelmingly awesome and an absolute pleasure to check out and browse. After finally deciding between House of the Dead 2 vinyl and a Jet Set Radio 2Mello vinyl, I ultimately had to have the Jet Set Radio pressing, and just my luck, they had their Jet Set Radio 2Mello green and orange swirl vinyl spinning and playing beautifully! Alas, seeing that pressing spinning at their display, I notified Dan that I absolutely needed "THAT ONE!" I explained that I was torn between House of the Dead 2 and Jet Set Radio's 2Mello, but the sole reason I got Jet Set Radio's 2Mello was because it looked too darn cool! So after talking with Dan for a bit, complimenting their rad collection, he notified the other booth staff member to bag up the very same vinyl (or so I thought) that I explained I loved so much. After getting home and eagerly opening the vinyl, to my surprise, it was a completely different variant (splatter) than the one that was obviously being advertised and discussed about with Dan. Although a beautiful pressing, not what I had purchased the day of the con. So I reached out to Video Games New York, calling them and explaining the situation. The employee who answered the phone notified me to contact via email explaining my situation and that the same gentleman, Dan, who I met and conversed with at the con, would be the one handling all emails that VGNY receives. After reaching out via email and explaining the situation (with video and picture evidence, as well as receipt of course), I was simply checking to see if they had the advertised pressing in stock for trade, and if not, being completely okay with trading for the the USED AND OPENED one that they were displaying at the con. With very little openness for a solution within our despairing email thread, I've given up on trying to come to a middle ground as not even an apology was given, let alone a shred of interest to make a simple trade for the correct vinyl (I even offered to come to the storefront location completely on my dime, no shipment fiasco required). I want to be clear, never did I ask for or expect a refund, just for the right thing to be done! I was informative and friendly when explaining the situation, on all accounts, regardless if at length, was a mistake that was made on their end. The world of vinyl and especially video games, is one that is truly built on integrity, honesty, preciseness and the love for the art. I was mostly torn up about the carelessness when really opening up to Dan and explaining my love for that specific vinyl, however, I was just a quick buck to make on the last day of con! He defi I want to give them the benefit of the doubt because vinyl is a new space for this establishment but the customer service was extremely lacking. I always knew through the years that VGNY was a very final sale / too bad so sad kind of shop, but the lack of responsibility and non-eagerness to resolve was very off-putting and put plainly, very very lame. Vinyl Buyers Beware! When a place is not even sure of the variants they are selling, take it as a warning to be proactive when purchasing from shops like this. Went in looking for repair service and as I walked in, the one person working did not greet me and openly ignored me as I tried to ask him a question. A second employee appeared from a back room and would not face towards me or look in my direction while I asked about their services. He did point me towards 2 other stores that can assist me with what I was looking for, which was very helpful and the only reason they're getting stars from me. 3. Lastly I will say this place smelled really bad. If you've ever attended a con, you'll know that body odor in these settings is strong considering a lot of shut in nerds don't bathe or use deodorant. No doubt that this is a place that takes games seriously. That said, their customer service needs improvement. Took my console (PS3) in for cleaning and repair (they did this for me a few years ago with good results -- that was then). Waited for 10 minutes before I actually saw an employee. When I did finally see someone, they were involved in a lengthy negotiation with someone selling old games and consoles from a big garbage bag. 15 mins in and still no acknowledgment that I was even there. When I finally got to an employee -- someone else who came out from the back room -- I was told the repair would take 5-7 business days. That seemed long but I wanted to support this business. When I called 2 weeks later for an update, I was told that the tech hadn't even opened the machine for a diagnostic and "hey, you're not the only person needing repairs." Wow. I asked them to stop work (well... not to start) and retrieved my machine that day. At least they didn't balk at returning my $25 deposit so I guess that's... something. Don't bother with this company for repairs. Slow "service", toxic "you're lucky we're talking to you at all" attitudes. Take it to a legitimate repair shop. I was really excited to order Cooking Mama from here due to the limited stock and extreme prices on Ebay. I placed the order on 04/06, it was "delivered" on 04/10 so I emailed them on 04/11 and they gave me a generic be patient message, I followed up on 04/14 and they responded on 04/15 that they started a claim but due to COVID USPS has long wait times. I followed up 04/17 and 04/20. On 04/21 I posted to their Facebook asking them what they plan to do about this and they removed the post so now I have to spend over an hour to be on hold with my bank to issue a chargeback. Quite a nice retro gaming store! They have a vast selection stretching all the way back to the 1970s. I took a little nostalgic romp through the much neglected early '80s section and was amazed at the new in box Trak-Balls and Atari 5200s. Most importantly, the staff is extremely knowledgeable. And the most unique thing about this store is that they also publish their own physical games for modern consoles. An interesting business model--they've put out some quality stuff! Love this store! The staff are friendly and helpful, they've got all kinds of new and vintage systems and games, and they went above and beyond to help me give a special gift to my brother-in-law. I hadn't owned a console since the original NES, but ever since Santa brought my daughter a Switch this past X-mas I've dived headfirst into gaming again and have been a frequent customer of the store, and buy games and accessories there all the time. When I saw the McTetris game in the shape of a McNugget there, which was only released in China, I knew I had to have one and my brother-in-law would love it too. I bought the McTetris for him and then asked the staff if they could make up a gift card for a sauce cup stand, which they had specially made in several colors/flavours. They were happy to oblige, so I paid in advance and they made a one-of-a-kind themed Sauce Cup gift card that I picked up a few days later. When he visited from out of town I gave him the McTetris in a Happy Meal box with the gift card, and then took him to the store so he could pick the flavour for his stand. They even let him keep the gift card as a souvenir. Thanks so much to Video Games New York for helping me craft a special gift and retail experience for him! The repairs were completed within 5 business days which was pretty fast & they have a 30 day warrantee if something goes awry which I appreciate. From the outside it doesn't look like much , but once inside you see it has just about every game / console / game accessory ever created . It has a very nostalgic feel and it's great. Seeing all the games I played growing up and wanting to play them all over again . They have locked glass shelves with all the games and cartridges. Brightly lit and easy to see each game and title . Staff are nice and helpful , if you are looking for a game they will open the case and look with you. All consoles are stored in a glass counter near the register. The mod consoles such as Gameboy advance and they have different shell options and can make one in your liking for a reasonable price. The store is brightly lit and is very organized making it easy to find what you want. They clean and test all the items to working order . They have a museum section where they have really rare stuff that's really expensive but very nice to look at Staff are very nice and are willing to go out of their way to help you find what you want or give you information about anything in the store. I am not a big aficionado of vintage video games. I fully admit this. But my dear husband is. So when we were visiting NYC, we made it a point to visit here for him. And if the fact that he was captivated for many, many, many, many minutes by this store is any indication, Video Games New York has a wide selection. This small store is in fact crammed full of games and other ephemera. Everywhere you look, there's walls of games, giant video game cutouts, game systems and fun game-related toys to look at. It seemed like they had a little bit of everything for each game system. My husband was drawn to the NES games, and I admit I took a walk down memory lane as well, coming across games I played when I was in elementary school. My husband ended up buying two games that he had been looking for. And we appreciated how helpful the clerk was. He took the time to patiently help each customer, without any pretension. Remember the time when cartridges ruled my school bag, where you have to blow into and warm up the connectors and quickly insert it into the slot and hope to the game will start up right..good old days when cellphone games were non existent. Sold some old video games. They got over 50 games from the family collection and some gaming. SyMostly common games they said so not worth more then a few dollars. But overall glad I was able to have the video games go to a place where someone will enjoy. Super surprised to find an actual old school video game store in the East Village. After spending a weekend addicted to the new Zelda: Breath of the Wild for the Switch, I knew that I needed Link's legendary steed, Epona, to complete my gaming experience. I tried calling a bunch of different electronics stores in Manhattan and, to my dismay, none of them had any of the Zelda amiibos in stock. One of my friends told me about Video Games New York and soon enough, my predicament was solved! Not only did they have Twilight Link Smash Bros amiibo, but they also had the Wolf Link amiibo as well! Note, they stock the Japanese versions, but they're not region-specific so I was able to use the amiibos on my Switch from Nintendo NY. This place is a mecca for serious retro-game aficionados or casual gamer girlfriends' whose boyfriends are super nerdy and got a Retron 5 for Christmas from his amazing girlfriend and wants to now pick up some very reasonably priced, nostalgia inducing games for it. The latter is much closer aligned to the reason for my last 2 trips here. My first time here was years ago when I walked by, saw Mario, made his signature noise and popped in to look around. I was blasted with memories of my childhood and amazed by all the amazing games, consoles, controllers, customization options, posters and memorabilia in here. It truly is a sight to behold. Video Game New York's staff members are super helpful, kind, efficient and most importantly - knowledgable. You might think some of their employees are too young, younger than some of the game systems they sell, but these folks will school you and you will leave here knowing things you never knew! There's another nearby video game store who will go unnamed that tried to make me feel like I didn't belong because I was a female. The world of video games might be a male dominated field, but we're no longer in the 1960s-70s and I have money in my wallet, so why stores do this I don't know. Video Game New York is awesome though. I didn't feel judged when I asked for help in locating Disney's "The Little Mermaid" Game Boy came (by Capcom, it's actually a pretty decent platformer) and then Street Fighter for SNES - which BINGO, they had both - *swoon*. My boyfriend was like a kid in a candy store when I first brought him here. He was floored at how much better prices were here than on Ebay or Amazon and the holiday sales (But 1, get one 50% off on all non-Atari games - because Atari games were like 10 for $15 - that's practically like giving these suckers away!!!) made things even better. One of the NES cartridges that I purchased here (The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World) did not work when I tried it on my boyfriend's Retron 5 - the console simply would not recognize a cartridge was inside the slot, but DID work with every other game we have so I returned it for an exchange (since it was $14.99), had my receipt and they were super cool about cleaning it, checking it out for me, troubleshooting and letting us get a new game or games as long as the value was $15 or we could get more and simply pay the difference. I do wish that their space was bigger as the store does get very cramped, the aisle where Famicom and Atari games are located is super narrow and when the store gets crowded it makes it hard to peruse. But it's not the end of the world. At least (in my experience) they generally attract a friendly clientele and employees keep this place super well organized with all things in their special place making it easy for customers to find what they are looking for. The customer service experience here plus their fantastic selection of unique older games, consoles, imported items and more is the reason that people keep coming back here. Video Games New York has been a staple of this city for quite some time now. I always stop by here whenever I walk around this area, though very rarely do I actually wind up buying anything. They have a great collection here (much better than 8bit, which is also in the neighborhood), and everything seems to be kept in good condition. Another bonus here is that the staff here is always pretty well informed and polite. I lost my nintendo DS charger a little while back, and I picked one up here for $10, which I thought was a fair price. It is a little annoying here that they require ID for credit card purchases- I can't really imagine credit card scammers hitting up VGNY as their first choice with stolen credit cards. The biggest issue I have with VGNY however is that they don't budge on prices, and they don't do price matches. I can understand that people have to make a profit, and that it is pretty tough for retail stores in this day in age; however considering that 95% of their wares are not new, but used merchandise, they shouldn't be so inflexible on prices. The last time I was here, I noticed that a nintendo DS game was selling for $24.99, while I found it on ebay for about $18, a while $7 dollar difference. I asked the staff member if they could come down a little bit, and the answer was a flat no. I'm not blaming the staff member here, but I really think this policy is too rigid. I'd like to give more business to stores like VGNY, but I really don't see a reason to if they are unwilling to compete on prices. I understand that the store offers a merchandise guarantee, but amazon and ebay both already do this, so that's not really an excuse to justify the markup. read more

PLACE IS AWESOME!! Everything is neatly arranged and behind glass cabinets for your benefit and the staff members. Kind of like a museum of video games for the ages. You can see all the games and systems and see the prices which makes window shopping hassle free. Some people complain about the prices but it is BEYOND fair. Alot of the offerings are super old and hard to find and if you tried to get it on ebay it could up end up being worse off. I love deals, and I love ebay. But you have to pay for shipping, and hope you dont get into a dispute about misrepresentation. And if you needed something as soon as 2 days good luck on trying to get a deal, this place helps for a last minute gift in a pinch. Staff is helpful. And this place offers everything.
