An awesome store with retro vibes and a great selection of games, for all consoles. The star of the show would be the vintage NES, SNES, N64, and PSX games, all with very fair prices comparable to what you'd find being sold by independent sellers online, but with the trust of coming from a store, with everything thoroughly cleaned and functioning its best (I've never had to blow on a cartridge I bought from here, and every game has worked on the first try turning on the system). This place's game selection for these systems includes the best of the best, along with the rarer and more esoteric titles, and the inventory moves pretty quickly so there's always something new every few weeks. The guy running the place, Adrian, is extremely kind and courteous - he is always willing to answer questions and provide info, but he's never pushing to sell anything and it feels like a no-pressure, comfortable environment for taking your time to browse. Adrian will waste your time. He will do this by being very condescending and passive aggressive. I made an appointment about two weeks ago because I was looking to sell my wii. Pictures are attached. I explained to Adrian that I am moving out of the country and I don't have any children or know of anyone who would honestly appreciate a classic Mario red Wii such as this one. Over the phone, I told him that the Wii was in good condition, which is true. I did tell him that the nunchucks are not with the WII but I do have two WII controllers, a red one and a white one. He asked me if I still had the sensor bar and if it was in good condition, and I told him yes, because that is true. We set an appointment but unfortunately due to my move and living in upstate New York I was unable to make it so I scheduled a different appointment for Wednesday at 12 noon when they opened. He was very nice over the phone. I will admit I am a woman of color however when talking to me over the phone. Most people are unable to guess this of me and usually when people see me in person they are surprised by my race. I've gotten this literally my whole life, so today was my appointment, I had a very long day at work. I work for the department of education, and I drove very far to get to this game store. I called the store upon arrival because I was lost and just not familiar with the area. He came outside to the front and directed me to come to the shop. As I was crossing the street, I just knew that it was not going to be a good experience, based on the look that he gave me, he gave me a look of surprise with a hint of disgust. However, I proceeded into the store. I introduced myself because we were on a first name basis since I made an appointment, and I noticed that he wasn't really making eye contact with me. This made me feel uncomfortable because I'm a very friendly person so I thought maybe it's my appearance being a woman of color with locs?? This was the only thing that I could think of. Because unfortunately, I have experience that type of treatment and his energy was spewing. I don't want to do business with you. I begin to take the WII out. I will admit my move has been super crazy moving to another country is a lot especially when you're moving from America so I put my WII and all of the accessories into a target bag. I will admit my fault, in doing this because unfortunately, the top piece of the Wii flap had broken off. We had agreed over the phone that he would pay me $60 cash for this item. However, when he noticed that he told me he would only pay $50. I did try to negotiate for $55 but then he said only $50 and I completely understood and that wasn't a problem for me. Also, I did offer to fix the Wii Flap and to have the part shipped by Amazon to his shop and I pulled Amazon up on my phone. During this time of us talking, he still wasn't making eye contact with me and then he began looking at the WII and he goes, "This is not good condition" (now he looks me in the eyes) he continue, "You told me it was good condition" So then I said to him, "it is in good condition It works perfectly. It's everything that we discussed" and he said, "well, This part is broken off!" So I apologized for it and said I've been moving and it was inside a target bag that happened on accident but I'm offering to fix it." he already confirmed that he would give me 50 for the WII with the flap being broken off. So then he goes "This is not good condition this wii has a lot of scratches all over it." He became very aggressive and I honestly just felt like he just didn't want to pay money for it and he could have just said that rather than being nasty and rude and displaying unprofessionalism and just overall nasty customer service. So I said back to him "there are literally no scratches, that's just dust it can be wiped off." So then he says... (of course you all know what's about to come next) "this isn't even worth $50. I will give you $30 for it." His persona and demeanor changed so much from the person who sounded so kind and nice over the phone. It was very scary. He was very argumentative, and I felt like he was looking for some type of push back. He wanted me to be aggressive. But of course, I was polite. I put my items back into my bag and I told him well thank you I'll gift to a student (which I will) & I walked out of the store. I honestly did not appreciate that an entire interaction and he could've honestly kept it and he wasted my time I literally drove from upstate New York to Brooklyn just for a waste of time. I'm leaving this review because while I am sure that some people have had pleasant reviews, I'm sure that there are others who have not and I just want you to know you're not crazy. This is the place for Retro games - you can see the love in the owner's eyes. I came in to trade a bunch of PS2 games (30 in all!), and while I was offered a fair deal (cash or more store credit) for half of the games (other half was sports games and discs that may have been slightly too scratched up), I really wanted two PS4 (limited supply) games so it was pretty simple to negotiate the whole lot. Honestly I credit Esteban and Brooklynvideogames with maintaining my mental health during all of 2020. I followed them quite by accident on instagram and his daily posts of retro pick ups inspired me to reach out and purchase a Super Famicom! That started me down a delightful path of retro collecting and gaming. I even started refurbishing old consoles, so I picked up a minor electronics skill set along the way. My life has been enriched by this tiny little store. I finally got to visit it in January and meeting Esteban in person was wonderful, he is kind, patient, and great conversation. I came a long way to check these folks out...and I'm glad I did. I was on the hunt for a Game Boy Advance SP AGS-101 (the one with the backlit screen). But like Ahab and the white whale, my quest for one looked rather grim. Lo and behold this small store had four of them in stock! Brooklyn Video Games is filled with retro video games at moderate prices. Moreover, the merchandise is kept in great condition. Even the Gameboy cartridges were kept in individual plastic wrapping. You get money for trade-ins and they even perform mods on the Gameboy lines (Color, Advance, SP)...their the real deal. Steve (the owner I presume) was very nice, knowledgeable and willing to answer my annoying questions. Also if you check in you get 15% off your purchase. The best video game store out there. Super chill guys, and also a great selection of older stuff you probably can't find elsewhere. Prices are pretty good and it's a relatively chill overall vibe. I've been to a few of the raves there, not my crowd really, but still pretty cool. Probably one of my favorite things is the downstairs part where you can pick up $3 Coronas after 3 o'clock Tuesday-Sunday. Also smoking is banned down there, but if you vape they usually don't say anything. Can't recommend this place enough. Also just a cool place to pop by and look at. My kids had a blast in this store. They love all the older video game systems and the retro games. We can hang out for hours...and I grew up with this stuff....so fun for me too! Great place, and great guys. Boyfriend and I come here often; they have an excellent selection of retro games and consoles, and have been very helpful with problems with some of our consoles. Very helpful and knowledgeable. And super nice and friendly! NYC has several excellent retro video games stores but this is easily our favorite. There's also a thriving community of like-minded retro game fans here; BVG hosts fun fighting game nights. I had a bad experience at this store. I brought in a console and some games to sell and I tested them before I left my apartment. It takes me a long time to drive out to them but I've been going there consistently for the last few months. When I got there they hook up the system and claim that it's broken. They show me that the TV just has a black screen with a no signal HDMI alert. I asked him to make sure that it was plugged into the right HDMI slot because I'm positive that it was working only an hour ago. He told me no I'm wrong that everything he did was correct... my machine is broken. As you can expect I drive back home plug everything in and it's working perfectly fine. read more

There was a deal that went south on the eBay store for a N64 and the owner was very nasty when dealing with me through the process. He told me "Thanks for wasting my time" after I backed out of the item and paid EXACTLY ZERO dollars for it. To make things even worse, I called up to apologize about the whole thing and the owner told me "To go shop somewhere else". Well, that is exactly what I will be doing and I hope that if you are reading this review to stay clear of this store if you are looking to get into retro game collecting. I want to start off by saying all they want is your money. I went there a couple of weeks ago with my friend and were looking at n64 controllers and my friend told me that they they were probably third party. I told him I'm not sure so the guy working there yelled at us saying "come on bro, those are part of the deal that came with the n64 toysrus bundle c'mon" with a very rude tone. Also they don't have any prices except if you go to the stores so I would rarely message them on Instagram. I've been blocked by them on multiple accounts over 5 times just for asking questions on prices. Extremely hard to reach out never pick up the phone. Last but not least I know they're trying to make money but they overprice everything by sooo much I've found a better price somewhere else 100% of the time. read more

Great store. I found this place by mistake coming back from a Locksmith job. BVG is a must go if you need games. Especially if you're on the market for retro NES and SNES games. This is the only video game store that I've shopped at in the last 2 years. Steve is always a professional. His staff is always professional and well informed.
