We were in the market for a new flat panel television and sure enough, they had the best prices. And to this day we love our TV almost as much as life itself. Once again we are in need of another TV. My wife is now a Netflix subscriber and I am being chased from the living room and being sent off to the bedroom. Now this is all fine and stuff, but I refuse to watch a television that is not HD! I just can't go back, I won't! I refuse! Over my dead body!! We have done all our research and checked out the Best Buys, Costcos and other on line retailers. But Video Only once again has the TV we want and at the best price. Marty the salesperson is extremely knowledgeable, took the time to explain the features from each TV and never once tried to up sell nor did he use any high pressure tactics. We left without our future TV, but I am thinking the minute I finish with this review I am out the door to pick up another slice of Heaven for our home. And later that day...... I went to Video Only after a friend had purchased their TV from there and had a good experience and good prices! And, heard a radio ad that said they're having a "stupid sales" and didn't have to wait for Black Friday and they would match all prices through November. So I went in (I really wanted to support local businesses and not buy a TV from a Big Box like Costco or Best Buy) and worked with Robbie Hanna to help pick out the right TV and sound bar for my house. He was super courteous, knowledgeable and explained the pros/cons of each model. Costco has their own sku for mainstream TV lines so if you buy a TV from Costco, you may pay less for not having some of the features. He also helped me with a sound bar selection. Came here looking to get a better idea for some home theatre ideas. I had done some preliminary research and was heavily leaning towards a projector system. When I told the salesman (I believe it was Mike, heavy set guy), he basically reduced me to an idiot who didn't know squat. For one, video only doesn't carry projectors because "they suck" and "people always complained about them" and that they "distort the image" and "are hard to manage"...well sir, I can assure you that I will install mine correctly and am fully capable of learning and assimilating to all challenges that my desired entertainment system will throw at me. But anyways...going along with the fact that I was a technologically inept woman (literally, at one point he was like "for a woman like yourself, I'd recommend something more simple...one where you can just turn it on and enjoy and not have to worry about all these more difficult settings" - sexist jerk), he decided to show me a variety of televisions, of which I really had no interest in and a variety of speakers that blared loud music which apparently meant that they were a "great system for audiophiles". Literally, if anything, I left the store absolutely sure that I wanted a projector system just to spite the salesman. I ended up heading over to Best Buy (Magnolia) and received all the information I wanted and more without being treated like a complete dolt. Should've just gone there to begin with. read more

Based on the reviews here, i was nervous about potentially dealing with sharks when I first went in. Such feelings were not necessary. Sure, they try to get you to buy sooner rather than later by letting you know that their prices are negotiable, but they are overall respectful if you tell them you're researching and learning. The salesmen are patient in educating you on the different models, pros/cons, etc. When I went back, my salesman recognized me and was ready to help. We verified that they have the tv in stock so I don't have to deal with potential delays. I told him the baseline price I was willing to pay, which was $500 less than Best Buy (54" plasma so I'm not talking about $500 off a $1000 tv), and asked him to match it. We didn't have to do any back and forth because I let him know where I got my figure from. He couldn't match the price exactly, but was very close so we didn't need to nickel and dime the difference. It was a fair price for the time/energy he spent talking to me, and also worth the next-day local delivery vs. having to wait 1-2 weeks if I bought from the other place. On the scheduled day of delivery, the driver called me that morning telling me what time they expect to arrive. They arrived within 5 minutes of the scheduled time, opened the box to let me inspect the tv for any visible damages, and were on their way in a few minutes. The delivery guy was very almost more professional in demeanor and attitude than the salesmen I dealt with. Good price, good service. For as long as I can remember, I've always heard their commercials on the radio, "visit Video Only! Cause if you don't, you'll be sorryyy!", but I was never in the market for a new TV...until now! My dinky little 42inch 1080p Samsung has lasted me the past 6, 7 years (and still going strong) but with the prices of 4k TVs finally down to an affordable range, it was finally time for an upgrade! I've been reading reviews on TVs (shout out to rtings.com!) and dwindled down my choices to a few options, weighing their strengths, weaknesses, and market price. For the better part of 2 weeks, I've been scouring the bay area for a good deal on a TV, going to Best Buys, Targets, Costcos, Frys, and WalMarts but none of them undercut the other and there weren't any "great" deals anywhere for the particular models I had my eye on. On a whim, Video Only popped up in my head and I called them to see what deals they had. I asked man on the phone, shout out to Reggie, for a deal on an older 2017 model. He said they were out of stock but said he could instead hook me up with a deal on a new 2018 model if I came in today. Considering the 2018s just came out in May & June, I was ecstatic. I got off the phone and I hopped in my car right away to head over to them. Arriving there, I immediately noticed the parking lot and building the store was in made me feel like I was in a 1980s furniture store, but I wasn't there for the ambiance...I was there for the deals! I immediately walked up to Reggie, introduced myself, and he started showing me around the TVs they had a deal for. He gave me a price on a Samsung I had my eye on. I quickly went on my phone and double checked all the big box stores' prices for the same model and size and he was able to beat it by a significant amount. It really felt like it was too good to be true. How could they beat the big box brand stores' prices and still turn a profit? There had to have been a catch... I had to ask, is it new? "Yup" And what's your return policy? "30 days, sealed or opened box, no questions asked" (Most of the big box stores are only 14 days) At that point, I was sold. He quickly rang me up, wheeled my shiny new TV to my car, and I drove home with a huge smile on my face! All in all, a GREAT experience and they just made a customer for life. My boyfriend and I needed a new TV. We had trepidation about where to purchase, what to get, how to set it up, etc. Ordering online wasn't the way to go since we had no knowledge or experience to draw from about getting a "modern" TV. So, we decided to go to Video Only, figuring it would be a good place to begin, look around, and ask some questions. Thank goodness we did! Robbie and Dino (store manager) were extremely attentive, informative, and helpful in narrowing down our choices. They had solid knowledge of how the set up at home would go, and referred us to a nice swivel base that would ensure the TV would fit on the stand we had at home. With their guidance, we purchased an LG TV they had to order but said would arrive in 2-3 weeks. Just four days later, they called to say one had arrived. We went over to pick it up. Dino answered a few more questions and assisted us with getting it safely into our car. My boyfriend set it up at home, and when the one moment came when he was completely stuck, he called Dino who was able to walk him through the snag. Overall, this was a tremendous retail buying experience. We went here for an HDMI cable. The app advertises a free HDMI cable upon check-in, so we called to verify it: they told us that it only applies if you buy something. So we showed up to buy a cable in hopes of getting a second one free, but we're told it only applies if you buy a TV! As my aunt was looking to buy a TV and I was advising her, I went back to Video Only in San Mateo right before (ten days) the Super Bowl just as I did a year ago. I asked for Reggie how had sold me my TV last year, but he wasn't in. Doug was there and we talked about the 2017 LG OLED 65C7P as that was my recommended TV. Doug told me that he would give me the E7P for just $100 more than the C7P price, which is a great deal as it was selling at most retail locations for $800 more. There were also offering a soundbar bundled with select LG TVs, which the included the OLEDs we were considering. As I had bought an LG soundbar a year earlier only to discover it didn't have a 4k pass through, I was looking for an upgrade. Our purchase options were likely to be a LG 65 C7P and two LG SJ9 soundbars or one E7P and one SJ9 soundbar. The next day I went back with my aunt and again Reggie wasn't there, but Doug was and this time he offered the 65 E7P for the same price as the C7P. Since the E7P has an integrated soundbar which would be easier for my aunt to use (only one device and one remote), we chose the E7P bundled with the SJ9 soundbar for me. When I purchased my B6p the previous year, delivery was free, but this time there was a $60 charge, but given the great deal on the TV (at least $800 discount on the TV and another $300 for the soundbar), I didn't object. Doug also threw in two HDMI cables. On one hand, those cables really vary in price from cheap to hugely overpriced, but these were quality HDMI cables with the premium certification and QR code. Delivery for the TV was set for a few days later. We left the store with the soundbar. I took the soundbar home and it didn't pass 4K, but after troubleshooting it turned out to be a defective cable so I was relieved. As it passes 4k traffic and Dolby Atmos, I'm really satisfied! The TV was delivered to my aunt's place. She had to pay an additional delivery fee up front at time of delivery, which I was initially concerned about, but Reggie showed up as one of the delivery guys and I trust him. He said we could go back to the store and be credited both the additional delivery fee and the earlier paid delivery fee. They unboxed the TV and attached the stand with speed and efficiency. A few days later my aunt went back to the store alone and was indeed credited both fees, so the delivery was ultimately free. The TV is amazing. It made the Super Bowl party, although watching the Pats lose would be nice on any TV... The only thing that bothers me, is that they didn't have this deal last year or I would have got it for myself! We saved at least $1800. That just can't be beat. went to video only in san mateo looking for a samsung 32" led 1080p for my bedroom after my toshiba led tv 24" having issues with the remote changing channels and shutting off the tv. francisco greeted me and told him i was looking for a 32" tv. they had a 32" samsung 720p and the 1080p led tvs on display. i went with the 1080p tv because the remote for it has numbers on the button so you can enter the channel number you are searching for without having to go channel by channel in numerical order whereas the 720p remote has no numbers on the remote and to change channels in numerical order you have to use the channel up and down button. also checked the back of the tv if it has the holes for my wall mount in which it did. i checked target and best buy for the samsung 1080p tv and you have to order it and wait a week to pick it up. read more

I'm a believer. BEST PRICES in town! TV shopping gives me a headache and a half. I never understand all of that techie talk. We lucked out with this super smart sales guy named Alex. Even b (definite tech geek) learned a bunch of stuff. Alex did demos on the difference between 60 and 120Hz, 720 and 1080p, whether matte and glossy screens when turned off cause glare. I've never seen a sales guy turn off a TV, but when he did, it's very easy to see which TVs will have glare, especially if you're watching in a sunlit room. I learned about HDMI and PC inputs and how my Wii and his PS3 will play out on this TV. It was very interesting and I felt like a well-informed consumer. Alex was honest and pointed out the plus and minuses for each model. He discussed wall-mounting, stands, and even how the TV will respond to an earthquake. It felt more like a lesson, than a sales pitch. No pressure at all. They beat Best Buy by $599 and Amazon by $377 on the model we bought. We ended up with this awesome deal, but they were out of stock. Said it would arrive anywhere from 7-10 days, but we got a call yesterday which was 24 hours after we ordered it. BONUS! TV is beautiful and knowing we got a great deal makes it even sweeter. One note though, b and his friend said the guy they picked it up from (Alex wasn't working) was kinda of a jerk and was complaining about the good deal we got. To avoid jerkness, just ask for Alex when you go. He's awesome. BTW, it looks kinda sketch from the outside and the entrance is in the back. Door chimes when you walk in. I strongly recommend checking out Video Only before giving your hard-earned money to Best (Worst) Buy. I was finally persuaded by multiple friends and family members to upgrade my pathetic 20" tube TV to a 42" plasma. Given the lack of options in SF the first place I checked was Best Buy, where I nearly fell on the floor laughing when they informed me that to deliver and set up my TV (just to cable/DVD player - not a surround sound system or anything fancy) they would charge ~$170. For a $500 TV. Umm, no thank you. I was resigned to bribing a friend with beer to help me get a TV into my apartment, but decided to check out a couple of other places first. I am glad I did! The salesman at Video Only was helpful but not pushy as he showed me that the Panasonic had slightly better color quality and was slightly cheaper than the Samsung. I was sold. With a tiny bit of negotiation they delivered the TV to my place in SF for $25 - including setting it up on the TV stand, hooking up my devices and even programming my Comcast remote for me. Hoorah! I love my new TV so much that it's hard to remove myself from my couch, but I can't blame Video Only for that. read more

I've been shopping at San Mateo Video Only for about 10 years - bought at least five TVs and three DVD recorders from them for our use and for my work. My last purchase (about six months ago) was a 42" Plasma TV. I was kind of picky about the set - - wanted to see them tune to other channels besides the store feed, wanted to see the set tuned to a standard definition channel, things like that. They were accommodating, knowledgeable and helpful. The price on the set was EXCELLENT. I was in there on a week day, and I was the only one there, so perhaps it wasn't the acid test. My TV broke down unexpectedly after only having it for the past 4 years. I watch a LOT of TV, so I decided that I needed one right away. At around 7:30pm, the BF and I trekked down to the BestBuy with a Magnolia store in it. I browsed a few tvs and found one that I liked, but wasn't convinced about the price or the picture. My BF bought his TV here a few months ago and had a GREAT experience (he's really picky about his TV and just was the most indecisive customer), and they took really good care of him. So I decided to swing by just to see if they had a better price on the TV that I might have wanted. We got there around 8:45 (15 minutes before closing!!!), and I let the sales guy know my specifics: 46" LED small bezel minimum 120 Hz prefer a Samsung and budget was around $900 He brought me to the TV that filled every single one of those requests. He answered every annoying question that I had. Then left me alone with my thoughts. When he came back, he knew I was still on the fence between two TVs, so he gave me more specs. After that, I was sold. DONE. He grabbed the TV in the back, magically loaded that beautiful monstrosity in the back of my compact car, and off we were. 15 minutes, in and out. I didn't feel pressured. He gave me a lot of information. And the return/exchange policy is amazing. This was definitely the TV-buying experience that I was looking for! read more

Absolutely the worst customer service. I don't recommend anyone to come here, they have a big selection on display but is all a front, they have basically nothing in stock. They will sell you anything with a smile. There worker Will or Willy is a complete douce, worst attitude as a sale man, will actually tell you it is what it is and if your not happy come back for a refund. If you do buy your either lucky to walk out of there with a TV or they tell you that your TV is backordered, they gave me a date that was 2 weeks out and still didn't deliver. Not the best afternoon spent looking for a new TV... The TV offerings/selections on the floor are fine, but their stock levels are terrible AND THEY WONT SELL A FLOOR MODEL. Stating they are sold out of practically everything, only have one of this, blah blah, and they're waiting for a shipment stuck in the Port of OAK. Not my problem, dudes - - they claimed to only have had one in stock of the higher end TV I wanted, and NONE in the next grade down... After it looked like we were going to give up, the manger (or whoever he was) said they had one on hold for someone else and that they weren't going to be in until like June of some such crap. We could have that one if we wanted it. Long story short, we ended up with an LG 32" HDTV It's not the TOP of the line 1080p, but it suited our needs and the price was right. We did price check and only one place had it for $1 less, but we'd have to pay shipping, so we did get a good price... I will give them a star for that. We then looked at a Toshiba sound bar... We asked if we could hear it - but 'oh, you need this adapter for that particular TV and this floor model isn't hooked up to anything, sorry..' . It happened to be on Clearance and then it ended up being the floor display that they DID sell us (go figure). It was only $99 - open box, blah blah blah. but wait, it gets better - Then, it turns out, after he looked in the back for the box it had the adapter in it...Somehow everything is found, he packs it up while we're looking at something else then is ready to make that sale... so we pay, go home, hook it up without a second thought. Remote batter is dead. fine, go find a battery... Everything else is fine until we start switching sound modes with the sound bar and - THE RIGHT END SPEAKER DOESN'T WORK - great. it was on Clearance, and they stamp the receipt with No refunds or returns, you have to go to the manufacture for a warranty exchange. WHAT? ..You sold me a broken item, not cool. (we also suspect they knew it was faulty with that whole 'we can't test it here') Yes, we could have left without it, but who would figure this would happen... After looking everywhere, no one has this model in stock - totally sold out everywhere. Must be popular... let's see if we can get this thing working or exchanged for one that does work. After talking with Toshiba's lovely customer service's 'Mary' from India we were told if the device purchased is less than 15 days old, to take it back to the place of purchase... well, we can't. Nice catch 22, huh? So, now we have to wait 2 weeks for the website to 'validate' our warranty return and start a claim. Not cool. The man behind the counter was a bit talkative/know-it-all manager type and I DID hear him say to one of the salesmen that he had MORE than one of the higher end TV's we were looking at after two women came in and were looking for pretty much what we were looking for and bought the 1080P one. Wait, you just said you only had one in stock. I am not sure I'll ever shop there again with that kind of shady behavior. Just know what you're looking for. Know what you are willing to pay. Make sure it's factory sealed. Caveat emptor... lesson learned. read more

We finally purchased our first ever LCD tv. The price was a couple hundered less and encouraged to get a 5 year extended warranty. Sales person was eager for the sale. After the sale, he never bothered to follow-u p and call back when called 10 days later to find out if TV had come in. NO phone calls back , poor customer service and would shop around just to get better customer unless your TV is in stock. Sales people could care less once they had your money and sale. read more

I have bought every TV I own from them for the last 13 years. They do only give you a 30 day exchange, but I have taken advantage of that to try out a set in my house and see if I liked it. They took away a 60" giant Rear Projection back in the day. If you think Best Buy is the answer you just are not matching up the prices. True occasionally I find a better price at Costco, but Costco charges for delivery and setup and Video Only does it for free. I have also asked them to match Costco and they do. read more

You know their radio ads about how if you're in the market for a new television and you don't come here first, "YOU'LL BE SORRY". Well I visited this store with a coworker of mine looking to purchase a Panasonic Plasma television and I honestly felt "SORRY" for having wasted my time here. First off, these guys work on commission. The salesman that helped my coworker a day earlier was clearly upset when my friend sought help from another salesman. The problem with commision-base salesman is that many times they try to get you to purchase something you don't need. I don't like that a bit. My review is based solely on the technical knowledge on 3d tvs from Video Only. To preface, my experience with 3d television is quite extensive. I've worked with some highly skilled 3d experts from London and authored my own 3d content for work. Needless to say, I know a thing or two about 3d. :) With this in mind, I played dumb and started asking the Video Only guys to tell me more about the differences between Active and Passive 3d glasses when it comes to consumer 3d television sets. Knowing for a fact that Active 3d glasses require a battery and Passive 3d do not (think cheap movie theater glasses) I was surprised the salesman got this fact WRONG! He insisted on the opposite - that Passive requires batteries and Active does not. When I questioned him and asked him to verify with someone else, he walked away, consoled with another salesman, returned only to insist that he was right. Just for fun, I grilled him on a a few other 3d-related questions. He was giving me wrong answers left and right. Ummmm....how can anybody selling 3d television not know what they are selling????? Aside from commission based salesman who don't know much about their products, the overall prices were not cheap at all. The Plasma display that my buddy wanted to get was a few hundred dollars cheaper on Amazon. He ended up buying it from Amazon. Don't go here. YOU'LL BE SORRY if you do. read more

I had a plasma breakdown unexpectedly recently. I had done a ton of research before my last purchase and felt confident about my ability to find a quality tv to replace it. I wanted to go somewhere that was going to offer low pricing and a low pressure sales environment. I've shopped at other big box stores and always felt like the reps on the floor were pushing hard on particular tvs or on add-ons such as extended warranties, cable bundles, etc. Being armed with my research, I didn't want to deal with any of that. I stopped into Video Only and met Morey, one of the sales managers. I was impressed with a few things: a) Their listed prices were lower than most other places that I had explored (many online places included) b) They had a good selection of quality brands c) I had an easy purchase experience with Morey. Morey listened carefully to what I was looking for, what my budget was and what my most important criteria were. He was a knowledgeable resource and did not put any pressure on me. I was able to negotiate with him to fit my budget. He worked with me to structure a deal that I felt was fair and simple. I ended up going back to purchase more equipment later and referred a friend. Knowing that he gave me a good deal, he made an effort to give my friend a good deal as well. The one criticism that I have is that they don't have much of an online presence, so it is tough to do shopping online before stopping in. I bought the best of the line tv and the insurance plan. My TV started having problems after the third year with the coloring. The Warranty company said they would jot fix it because the part was too expensive. Instead they gave me a TV that was similar. So I agreed. Then they sent it through Amazon and told me I had to install it myself. I called and talked to the San Mateo store and they agreed to come out and install it fir me and take the old one away. The installer was suppose to call me when he was 1/2 hr out and he didn't. So he showed up and installed the tv since my husband was home. He told my husband he would nit take the old TV away unless he paid 30.00. I'm going to San Mateo so I will pack up the tv and drop it off. I live approx 45 minutes away. Nit a good way to do business and there is clearly a communication problem. read more

I went there a for two TVs so far, Chris used to work there and he was awesome. He made me a deal on everything not just with the cost if there was a lower price but being an expert in TVs and video related products. I am sad to see him go. I am dealing with another person but I feel that this person may be too set and not willing to give me the same deal. Only negative, they do not have their own installation staff. But they do give ok referrals. One was a flake the other was cool but tried to sell me on his speakers for my house verses theirs. (frustrating.) Nothing against Video Only. read more

Lots of TVs, has its plusses... To begin with for the amount of radio advertising I hear I thought the place would have more going for it. Turns out its a rather bare bones affair, but upon reflection that appears to be the target appeal - no fuss. STORE PRESENTATION: Upon entering you are presented with 3 isles neatly filled with LCDs that sit side by side, biggest to smallest. No decor per se, standard manila color shelving, typical drop ceiling, dated tile and paint...I found this left the TVs laid bare, naked in their chintzy metallic frames; wafer thin, they lacked substance. I started to wonder if we really needed one more piece of planned obsolescence. On the positive side, the almost precision layout of the store display models served to emphasize the breadth of selection; they do have it all in a day and age where Amazon is leading the online 2hr to your door revolution, so Kudos there VO. EXPERIENCE: A salesman assisted me, and he was good, knew the models, brands, how they compare - no complaint there and he was with me the whole time. But selecting a TV becomes a rather simple problem to solve if you know what size and have a budget on mind. To whit, because I knew I wanted a 55in TV there were only 5-6 options, and 3 of those were tossed out immediately, so its the Sony, Sony Flagship or a Samsung. HERE'S THE THING: Men need more from the presentation. it's the one thing we can buy atell everyone to butt-out. The store experience here just drained my will to shop. My urgent need faded away. Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong. I enjoy high-end audio shops with living-room set ups that transport you directly into into the experience. Again, thos must be the no-fuss appeal. SUMMARY: To make the best informed choice, I recommend visiting online reviews and stores with lively TV presentations, determine the exact models that interest you. Then head to Video Only, you can't go wrong from a selection perspective and they do have great prices along with a knowledgable and helpful sales staff. read more
