We moved to Northern VA from DC recently and took some time to find a groomer we could really trust to do a breed standard golden trim, be gentle with nail trims, and take excellent care of our boy. Scheduling was a breeze and the front desk staff I communicated with were kind, responsive, and attentive to the type of groom we wanted for our golden. Katie, who has 2 goldens of her own, did an excellent job with our boy. I could tell he had a great time with her because of how happy he was with her (returning to get more pets!) when we picked him up. I cannot say enough good things about this small business. I wouldn't ever go elsewhere. They are absolutely wonderful, so personable and genuinely pet oriented. They really take the time to get to know your fur babies and groom them within their individual comfort levels. My one girl Camry had extreme anxiety with getting her nails done and each time they were patient, never rushing her and never getting frustrated. Then when she passed away and I brought my golden back, they were so kind not only to me, but made sure Addy was comfortable by herself. I have a senior (11yr) wooly husky with two torn CCLs so I am always super nervous about bringing her to the groomers. Vienna Pet Spaw was able to accommodate my last minute request to take her in and she came home perfect. It's hard to fully dry a wooly husky, but she came home fully dried and her furcoat was blown and brushed. The only issue, or maybe I was unclear about, was that the fur on her her paw pads, legs, and butt area were not trimmed short enough. I'm cautious to jump into conclusions about groomers after being disappointed by many previous ones in the neighborhood for various reasons (abrupt price increases to straight up abusive business owners). We've been going to Vienna Pet Spaw for almost two years now and can confidently say we have been loving it. I love this. 2) They allow owners to come into the back grooming area (as long as the dogs don't get too crazy seeing their owners). My dog absolutely hated the last two places I took him and would claw me to get home when I picked him up and drink so much water afterwards. When I picked him up yesterday he was so calm. They canceled my January appointment and they are now completely full for the whole year after coming to them for a year. Referred other people to this location and they ripped out dogs hair from his skin. Very upset with this location. 4-5 appointments had to be canceled last year due to needing to wait months to get an appointment, had to go to Petsmart grooming, while waiting for this facility. I love this grooming place! I've brought my 8 year old chocolate lab a couple of times for baths and nail clippings. The staff is always very courteous and seem to really care about their furry clients. It's also located on a super quaint street with cute little shops to pop into, including a nail salon and an excellent sandwich place to kill time while waiting. My Third Visit. I absolutely love taking my dog, Hitch here. This shop is NOT a "one size fits all." Carol (owner) is very caring and hands-on with each client (both human and canine) and interested it what is BEST for your dogs grooming without trying to "up-sale" her clients. These people GENUINELY like what they do! I prefer to wash my own dog in their facilities. It gives me some "bonding time" with him. Included in the price: shampoos and conditioners mixed specifically for your dogs needs. The tubs are huge and well equip and there are high powered driers for dogs with multiple layers of coats, such as mine. Their stylists are quality, knowledgeable, caring and patient. I dropped my dog off during the Vienna Halloween parades, there was no parking and it was super noisy. I told her I wanted the same teddy bear cut, Teeth brushing and ear plug. The pictures should say it all. We have been bringing our dog here every 6-8 weeks for the past year and although the haircut is not perfect (straggly and uneven sometimes), we liked the fact that they do not cage the dogs and that our dog did not seem stressed when we would come pick him up. Since he is a double rescue, we try our best not to put him in stressful environments. Some highlights of our latest groomer experience and why me and my family will never bring our dogs back here: 1. The groomer Sara called us on the day of his appointment asking us to bring him in earlier (unfortunately we were unable to bring him early so we stuck with our 3pm appt) We were shocked when Sara called at 5pm to let us know our dog was ready to be picked up. It usually takes them 3-4 hours for each grooming so this seemed rushed. 2. Their website lists all the services they perform during their grooming, however we learned that you actually have to ASK them for certain grooming tasks like expressing his anal glands. Every groomer we have ever been to included this and always checked the dog without us having to ask. The last 2 grooming sessions they have forgotten to express his glands which he needs to have done every 8 weeks. So each time we would pick him up, they would admit they forgot (even though we reminded them at drop-off AND called them to remind them) and then they would do it while we waited - with causes our dog to be stinky and dirty which defeats the purpose of paying so much for grooming. 3. When I picked up my dog, they did NOT mention that they had cut him or that he was misbehaved during the session at all. I understand he may not have stayed still and maybe she accidentally cut him but at least TELL me about it so that I don't have to discover 15 CUTS on him as soon as I got home from picking them up. I also find it hard to believe that she did not know she cut him so many times. 4. My dog was licking his wounds all night and was obviously in a lot of pain and discomfort from what they did to him. 5. Since they were closed by the time I got home, I called them the very next day to express how disappointed I was about their dishonesty, their forgetting to express his glands again, and all of the cuts they made on my dog. The owner immediately defended Sara saying that Sara would have never tried to hide that from us and that if Sara cut him, then she would have told us. She then said that with the cold winter weather, his skin could just be chapped and sensitive. Um. What?! No apology, no offer to do anything to try to fix what they did. When I got home and told my family about this, we made the decision to bring my dog in to show the owners and staff what they did to him the next day since they were not owning up to it. Sadly they close early so we had to wait a day to confront them in person. The moment we stepped into their store, the owner Carol exclaimed "Oh I was just about to call you to check on how your dog was doing!" What a lie. It had been 36 hours since I called them. When Carol and Sara approached my dog to try to look at the cuts, he started shaking and I had to take him out of the store to calm him down he was so scared. He was obviously traumatized. Both the owner Carol and Sara were there and Carol did all of the talking. She reiterated that Sara would have never done this and she would have admitted her mistake if she made one. Then she just went on and on about how worried sick she has been about my dog and losing sleep over it. When we asked them if they were denying that they did this, Carol's response was that "maybe the cuts did not show up until after I got home from picking my dog up and that is why Sara did not see them". I don't know about you guys but CUTS on the skin are visible immediately. He was still bleeding from it. So they still did not admit to is and I get so sad thinking about how stressed and scared my dog must have been during his grooming session. Then Carol told us we should take him to the vet and to let her know that he is ok because she will be so worried. She did not offer to pay for any vet bills, or try to fight for our business. They knew they lost loyal customers. If he was not behaving then they should have stopped and called me! Don't just keep cutting my dog up!! It makes it worse that they deny knowing that they even cut him, that means they must be so rough with the dogs and ignore any cues from the dog that they might be in pain, so that they can just get the grooming done so they can close up shop and go home or move on to the next dog. read more

I really liked that I could stay and watch because the pup had separation anxiety, and being able to see me helped calm him down. I was really impressed with how friendly the staff is, so when I adopted a 2 year old Westie in November, I called to make an appointment for a full grooming. Unfortunately, they were booked through Thanksgiving and could not schedule an appointment for 4-5 weeks, so they put me on the waiting list and I was able to grab a cancelled appointment a week later! I've been to three different dog groomers in the last 5 months (since I got my dog) just to check out places and Vienna Pet Spaw is by far my favorite! I live 5 mins away from two well-known grooming places in Shirlington that I've taken my yorkie to but I choose to drive 40 mins to go to Vienna Pet Spaw. The owner & staff are all so welcoming and friendly. The place is so cute and clean with a couple of grooming stations & some self-wash stations. I love how when you tell the groomer specifically how you want them to cut your dog's hair, they do exactly what you want. All of the other places I've been to, for some reason, they don't do what I ask them to do so when I pick up my dog, he looks like a different dog! I've made my decision, Vienna Pet Spaw will be our permanent grooming place. These guys are awesome! I have taken my Poms there twice and will continue to use their services in the future. The whole place is pretty open so you can see the dogs getting groomed which makes me feel comfortable. The staff are very friendly and do a great job. My only complaint is that it's hard to get a full hair cut appointment. I think they might be understaffed or just too popular. They have been able to fit my poms in for quick bath , blow dry and brushing, and nail clipping and filing for about $45 each. My pup, Daisy Mae, went in for her first ever "spaw" day. I kept the services to a minimum to ensure it was a positive experience for her. I told the staff she would do better if she didn't see me walk out the door, and they walked her around the corner without a hitch so I could sneak out. Oh.. my... gosh, when I picked her up she was happy and so very CLEAN! Her fur is super soft. I appreciated they gave me a time estimate, but called me 30 minutes before she was ready for pick up. I had been coming to Vienna Pet Spaw for over two years to get my dog groomed by Mira. One day I come in for my regular groom, which I make months in advance to ensure that Mira is grooming my dog, I come to find that another groomer started grooming my dog. I had to ask them specifically if Mira was no longer there and it was only then that they confirmed it. I would have appreciated being told up front but I shrugged it off thinking I'll get a quality groom either way. Not some much. I gave them at least three opportunities with different groomers to see if I could get the same results that Mira provided. Each and every time, my dog came back with uneven shaves. The last straw was when she came back with her head lopsided and her hind nails bleeding from an overeager trim. Her nails had been cut waaaayy past the wick. It left my dog limping. What's worse is they didn't tell me. I had to find out later. I do not believe for a minute it didn't bleed when they initially cut her nails because it was so deep into her nail bed. When I called about it, they gave me tips to staunch the wound and offered a refund but the damage was done. If I wanted my dog groomed by a novice I would have taken her to a chain store. Ultimately, I no longer think Vienna Pet Spaw can provide quality grooming for my dog and will take my business elsewhere. read more
