Everyday at the Westin Lagunamar, we hung around the pool and or the beach at the resort closest to our building. Our server was the same everyday that we were laying out, although I think that was coincidental. After speaking with him, we found out he's actually from Atlanta but has been living in Cancun for the past several years now. The world really is that small. While laying out at the pool or even on the beach, you can receive the same service from the pool attendants. They're slow since they're covering quite a large area of people. However, I was ok being patient for my drinks! The happy hour drink specials are pretty nice! 50% off select cocktails from 3pm-4pm everyday! Even though they are discounted drinks, both alcoholic and virgin, they're still pretty tasty and slightly boozy. You can swim up to the bar to order drinks from the pool, too! Everything can be charged to your room and taken care of when checking out. One day I also ordered a burger on the beach - it wasn't bad - but it reminded me of a burger you would get at a cookout in your neighbor's backyard. Nothing special, but it's fun getting it delivered to you on the beach. Overall, while the food and drinks aren't anything to rave about and the service can be a little slow, the convenience is worth every peso. read more

Solid place in Westin Lagunamar for a quick bite or drink. Whether you are lounging by the pool and need a quick refuel before your next Cancun adventure, Viento is a decent stop. Service is friendly, prompt, and clean overall. The workers adhere to COVID precautions but the customers/tenants -- ehh. They are on vacation, so whatever. If you dine in at the restaurant or are pool side and want to order, they will take care of you. You can easily charge it to you room too, so if you do not have money on you, no worries! We got the guacamole which came with chips and complimentary chips and salsa. We also ordered Fish tacos and a pineapple pizza. Nothing amazing, but done well and flavorful. Pizza was a bit greasy, but still tasty. It's a typical bar and grill pool side where the majority of business is pool side drinks and snacks. The drinks lean towards the sweeter side, but still refreshing. If you stayed here and want a quick bite, it's a solid place with friendly workers. If you are expecting gourmet food, well unfortunately the Lagunamar sit down restaurant is closed due to COVID. read more

Tucked away in the Westin Lagunamar by the Infinity pool. Had a wonderful relaxing lunch. They are great if you have a GF intolerance/allergy. Told me immediately I couldn't eat the chips that came with the guacamole so they offered me corn tortillas instead and still brought the chips out for my husband. No charge for that. Now we at the Dune pool bar the day before and I was told the same chips were fine to eat. I had a feeling that was wrong. I did eat one chip and although I'm extremely sensitive I was actually ok. Probably didn't feel it because we were enjoying happy hour. The coffee hit the spot, it is almost like expresso but not as strong. My husband really enjoyed his turkey club and I loved my grilled salmon and salad. The salmon was GF even though it didn't have that symbol next to it on the menu they said no problem. I could eat the salmon everyday for lunch, so good. They have symbols next to the items that are GF, but ask if something else interests you because to make it GF sometimes it is an easy substitution. read more

The menu includes pizzas and burgers but also some Mexican dishes. Prices are fairly reasonable, especially for a Westin. I had the shrimp cream and the Camarones a la Diabla. yes, service is a little slow, but life is supposed to be slow when you are at the beach. The soup was delicious and the shrimp was pretty good. They offered four salsas, I tried the Habanero - very tasty and hot (as it should be) it cleared my sinuses right away, as it should. read more

One star, only because the staff was very nice. Beyond that, this place gets a big MEH. You're right by the ocean, but can barely see it because the place is recessed, about 5 feet below grade. The tables are way too big for a place like this, and it made it hard to get around. First, let's start with the prices. Before someone gripes, yes, I know that this is a Westin, but it's honestly nothing special. We've stayed in so many nicer places all along the Riviera Maya, including true 5 star hotels (which this is not). The prices for food here are significantly higher than any other hotel we've stayed at. I am not a cheap person, and I do not mind paying more for quality. Here, however, the quality of the food was extremely poor, and the prices disproportionately high. We opted for the brick oven pizza. The wood smoke coming from the oven smelled delicious, which enticed us to go with the pizza. First, there are about 10 choices for pizza types, and most of them are just really weird. Tuna pizza, anyone? How about a asparagus? A salmon pizza? Yuck! Note to restaurant owners: novelty is interesting, but don't forget the basics, like pepperoni. We opted for a Margherita style pizza (according to the menu). The waiter explained that it came with both goat cheese and slices of smoked buffalo mozzarella, and of course tomatoes and basil. We passed on the goat cheese (I don't care for it when it's warm). The pizza came with a nice thin crunchy crust around the edges, but that's where the compliments end. The crust was soggy in the middle. The pizza was drowning in cheese. There was no buffalo mozzarella in sight, but the sparse tomato chunks and huge leaves of basil were swimming in melted cheese with a goopy velveeta-like texture. I'd say the diameter was maybe a foot. We ate most of it... We were hungry. But the price tag of more than $20 was just ridiculous. What should have been a nice pizza, given the brick oven, tasted more like fast food. It was gross. read more

I am writing an update and adding a star for one single reason. Jesus. On our second visit to Cancun and the Westin Lagunamar, every day we had on-site, relaxing by the pool, Jesus was our pool-side waiter. And he was a bright, shining, beacon of awesome during our visit! The food remains...eh...fine. Service times (for food) can still vary wildly. But Jesus is ON IT with the drink orders! He kept 'em coming, remembered our preferred drink choices, and made sure to make the rounds at least twice during every happy hour (half priced drinks!). And on our last day, when we found a more secluded/quieter spot to claim, and he had to cross the lilypad crossing of the fountain pool...he kept us in his rotation and made sure we were taken care of. Have eaten here many times during our stays at Westin Lagunamar. Have had 3 meals in 3 days. While the menu has become slightly diversified, it's decent. The bar and prices are very good (even better with owners discount). But why 2 stars? The service is attentive and super friendly, 5 plus stars. The food is hit or miss. The rib eye quesadilla and guano olive is excellent, pasta Bolognese and chicken Thai salad are very tasty, the burger is average and the fish tacos are bland. Moreover, it's not an enjoyable experience during a pandemic. While the staff are masked up and take the right precautions, there are many maskless people cutting through the restaurant to get to the bar or to use the pool, the cut though takes people close to people sitting at tables. Despite signs at restaurant entrances requiting masks, the staff does not enforce. Either close the entrances to restaurant foot traffic or empower the staff to request people in transit to mask up (as mandated by hotel rules and forms adhering to Covid protocol at checkin). read more

I give this restaurant two stars. The two stars are for the easy location (Westin pool) and the fabulous view. The service and food however was terrible. Let's start with the service. We were the second table seated for lunch. We ordered something simple. Hamburger and fries and my wife ordered fish tacos. Our food took over 45 minutes to arrive, when we saw other tables being served we asked a waiter (not ours because he never returned) about our food. We were told the kitchen was really busy. When we pointed out the fact that tables seated after us we receiving our meals he said he would check. When the food arrived the burger was the equivalent of a burger form the old high school cafeteria and didn't even match the size of the bun. Then my wife gave me one of her tacos. Basically was fried batter on a tortilla no fish what so ever. I have tried this restaurant on previous visits and it is consistently poor. If you want a quesadilla maybe ok. But way better places to spend your money. read more

When staying at the Westin Lagunamar, stop by this pool bar and order up your drinks for the rest of the day. It's convenient, the drinks are fruity/light (so yes, you'll end up having several), and the food is good! My friends ordered the classic margarita which they made a bit stronger, and we kept reordering. Other good ones are the Miami Vice (lava flow), pina colada, and mambolele. I thought the food here was great despite what one other reviewer said--ordered the guac, chicken fingers (which is real chicken, not crap nuggets), pizzas (they have a larger selection at this Viento Bar vs Duna which is what you order from your beach chair), and ceviches and they were fantastic. The bartenders were extremely attentive and patient--even given all the annoying people drunk-ordering drinks. So excited to find this lovely restaurant tucked behind the beautiful palapa bar at the Westin Laguna Mar Resort. We have been striking out in the food department since our arrival a few days ago, so we were leery about this mexican food. We ordered the loaded chicken nachos and the hearty beef burger. Much to our delight, they were both fantastic! Fresh guacamole and pico salsa topped with moz cheese and perfectly cooked chicken. The burger was thick and juicy and topped with bacon and cheese. A side of fries completed our order along with 2 diet colas! Awww...we were in heaven! At Westin Lagunamar - the restaurant has a poolside sit and drink/eat location. We decided we didn't want to get out the pool to have lunch and then get back in with the kids. Instead this was a delightful way to stay in the pool while still fill our tummies. We had two grouper fish and salad lunches and fries on the side. It also came with cauliflower puree - which looked like mashed potatoes but were delicious as well. Everything was finger licking delicious and very reasonable in price as well. I believe you get 10-20% discount if you ask for it on your checkout from the hotel on the charges from restaurants on your checkout bill from the hotel. Food and service here were amazing. This is the outdoor, poolside restaurant at the Westin Lagunamar resort. We went for lunch on our first full day in Cancun after finding out that the Oceano, which served breakfast, closed at 11:00. Viento opens at 11:00 so we were among the first people in the restaurant. We chose a nice table in the shade and ordered a bottle of water. Several minutes later we were still waiting for our water. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, which I thought was dry. It needed more cheese. The sour cream helped, but it was still a mediocre quesadilla for me as I like them really cheesy! My husband ordered a burger, which he thought was okay. My mom ordered a fruit platter with lime sherbert, which she liked (although it hardly qualified as a meal). While the food was decent, the service was horrible. Even though we were one of the first ones in the restaurant that morning, it took 50 minutes for our food to arrive. And then when we were finished and wanted to pay the bill, it took several minutes to get the bill. Overall, it took us 1 hour and 20 minutes from the time we sat down until the time we left. While we were certainly willing to relax on our vacation, I think 50 minutes to wait for food in an uncrowded restaurant is unacceptable! read more

You can't beat the view- you literally sit at the edge of a gorgeous infinity pool with a view of the ocean. The food is 'ok' for the price in the hotel zone. The service is always friendly but can be slow if busy. My recommendation is to come for happy hour (3-4pm) for 2 for 1 drinks, have a snack and kick back and soak in the view. read more

Don't eat at the Westin!!! Food is God awful. I travel a lot, and always stay at Westins. This one has no clue how to prepare food. Pick and item the menu, especially what should be a no brainer, Mexican; salsa is nasty, guacamole is bland, beans are processed through a strainer (as if there we bring served to 90 year old at an old folks home). Veggie burger is really 4 poorly grilled Vegetables thrown on a bun. Fish is tasteless. Well hey at leave you can order tropical drinks, NOPE watered down swill. The serves matches the food...... Sad, Westins are better than this. Botton line, this place is focused on selling more time shares, not guest experience, fine food or nice drinks. read more

Swim up and walk up bar at the Westin Lagunamar. For this trip, we had a much better experience than on our first trip. First things first, most of the time, getting food, either at the restaurant or poolside, takes a while. Some pool friends waited 45 minutes for a fruit plate and bagel. Other times, when we ordered lunch, it came much faster, within 15 minutes. The food is nothing fancy, but I really enjoyed the nachos with flat steak (beef). The drinks are sweet. Pina coladas, margaritas and daiquiris. They had plenty of other specials, but only specific drinks are the happy hour deals. My favorite was the Punch Especial. Not only is is tasty, it is pretty and colorful. The part that made this trip much more enjoyable was our waiter. For the week we were here, we ended up being able to sit in similar spots each day and always ended up getting Jesus as a waiter. He was very personable, friendly funny, and always made sure we had a drink. Our dad kept making jokes that we kept ordering water and Jesus kept bring us alcohol. he was so proud of his joke. But Jesus was great! much better service than on our last visit. Go here and find Jesus. read more

Painfully slow service ruins the experience. We have stayed at this hotel 7 times. We'd love to lunch by the pool from time to time but the wait time is unacceptable. On our first day this time, we had a very late lunch when we arrived at 330, there were 3 other people eating, and it still took over a half hour to get our food. It's a shame, too, because the quesadillas and sandwiches are tasty. Don't even think about eating here during prime lunch hours. read more

Let's start at the beginning, I swim up to the pool side bar I'm excited, I'm 20 I can drink legally down here I wheel up to the bar order my drink and the dude cards me (which is fine he's doing his job) so I have to swim all the way back to my bag and get my ID. I then show him the ID he studies it like I study for finals (really hard) like I would have a fake 20 year old ID and the bartender then just ignores me and walks off I literally have to go "hi yes I'd like a drink now" he still ignores me then eventually comes up and like pulling teeth gets me my drink. Later that day I ate there for lunch and I ordered the shrimp tacos, the breaded ones. This may sound dramatic but I don't know when I'll want to eat fried food again that's how fried these shrimp were. I was picking off the majority of the breading and it was still like eating a shrimp flavored cracker. That was three days ago. I went there yesterday because my family wanted to eat there again for some ungodly reason. I then ordered the "spicy" shrimp pizza because I was impressed by what looked like a brick woodfire pizza oven. Ho boy, was I wrong. This was the worst pizza I've ever had, the cheese made velveeta sound like a desireable alternative it was literally like eating synthetic plastic. The shrimp was obviously frozen and just tasted like garbage but the worst part was the spice. I like my food nice and spicy and the habanero piqued my interest, there was not a habanero flavor or a little habanero pepper to be found anywhere. I'm not a prissy eater but I about gagged when I had my first bite. WHERE WAS THE SAUCE. The crust wasn't bad so I just ended up wrapping the shrimp in the crust as a last ditch effort to save this meal. It was a failure. THEN AGAIN I made the mistake of going (it's convenient because it's right in the hotel and my parents actually seemed to enjoy their meals, they must not have tastebuds). This time I got a burger my sister said it was good so I was excited to give it a go. I don't know what meat they put in this burger but it definitely didn't taste like beef. The burger was bland and the bun was disgustingly flaky. How do you screw up a hamburger? The fries once again were over fried and tasted like crunchy (crunch?) I have no idea what they tasted like but I'd rather not visit that taste again. Also when they bring out the chips and salsa the salsa is hot? I've never had like temperature hot salsa before so maybe it's a secret of the Yucatán but it's a terrible secret if it is one. The drinks were good though. read more
