As someone who moved to Chicago from the Bay Area CA, this place is by far the BEST I've had in Chicago/Chicagoland yet. We arrived on a Saturday around 7:30 and they started getting packed and had a wait by 8. They are cash only but if you forget they have an atm inside as well! Prices are so shocking! Each bowl was about $14 which is the cheapest I've seen a bowl of pho in a looooong time. Food comes out pretty quickly. We order the appetizer fried shrimp Rangoon, bun Bo hue, pho dac biet, and avocado smoothie w/boba. The base of soup for both dishes was AMAZING! Good depth of flavor and not lacking anything. The bun Bo hue had a ton of meat and they even have the pork blood cubes! Pho dac biet was lacking a quantity of meat but good variety. The only complaint I have is the Avocado smoothie was very bland and didn't have much avocado taste. The boba tasted old because it didn't have its chewy texture anymore. I am from California traveling to Chicago. I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. The bun bo hue was flavorful, and the rice with pork chop exceeded my expectations. Best of all, the prices are very affordable compared to other places I've tried. The goi cuon is only $5.50 for two rolls, while other restaurants charge around $7.50. I highly recommend this spot. This is not a taste of Vietnam. There is zero flavor. Seriously, if I made my own bahn mi it would have tasted better than this (and I have). Where is the flavor people ? The beauty of the bahn mi is the mix of flavor. The sauce, the crunch of the bread, the jalapeño, the cilantro , the soft subtle taste of cucumber, the protein drenched in whatever sauce you make it with... but this was such a let down. Very cute little Vietnamese restaurant. The food is good and tasty. The service is excellent with the waitstaff helpful and quick. It has all your classic pho, noodle dishes and banh mi. We tried the salad rolls, fresh and tasty. I had the vermicelli noodle salad with pork, shrimp and spring roll #55? Comes with a light dressing. The dish was good, pork a little dry. Crab Rangoon was some of the best I've had in a while. The Pho was a solid 7/10. However, as I was enjoying my meal, something strange appeared on my spoon. A bug that I cannot name was in my pho. They said it had to come from the basil, but there is no way to know for sure. I never write reviews but I'm sitting here gagging every 2 minutes so if I can prevent this happening to someone else then so be it. read more

It's great to have a reliable Vietnamese food location, as I frequent the Palatine location fairly often. This restaurant is a little hard to turn into from the busy roads nearby Harlem-Irving plaza, but worth it for the delicious food within and great prices. Note that this spot is cash only, but the servers will warn you before you order and there's an ATM within the restaurant. On my visit here, I tried the appetizer combo which was served quickly, hot, and in the usual enormous portion. The chicken skewers have a ton of meat though it was a little overcooked this time for me. The shrimp rangoons are flavorful and crispy. Spring rolls have a tasty filling and nice crisp skin. The fresh spring rolls are the standout item here, with a great texture, bouncy noodle texture, and a good amount of shrimp that pairs well with their peanut sauce. Someone I know works near here and loves this Vietnamese restaurant, so she suggested a group of us go and get their pho. It was solid but I found it nothing to write home about (and the Vietnamese people in our group agreed). After two years of coming here, Viet Taste is still our favorite pho restaurant! Every time we come here, the pho hits!! Hot and flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, a generous amount of steak/beef balls, and a side of bean sprouts and sliced onions upon request. They are very generous with their portions and once you're finished your meal, end off with one of their yummy fruit slushie bobas -- we like their strawberry and their kiwi slushies, made with fresh fruit. Viet Taste is a no-frills CASH ONLY casual Vietnamese restaurant. They are apparently very successful in that they have multiple locations throughout the Chicagoland area. I can certainly vouch for this location to be fairly busy with both a loyal clientele and newbies like me. The place is not very big and is clean with a friendly and helpful staff. I ordered the Lemongrass Chicken with Egg Roll Bún. They served a fairly good size bowl and portion of grilled chicken with 1 egg roll cut into 3 pieces. The vegetables were fresh and crispy and the vermicelli noodles were nice and soft. It was very balanced as no one item overpowered the bowl. The bún was delicious and everything I expected. Prices are also very reasonable. Overall, Viet Taste serves up a fairly good and authentic bún and I suspect their pho is as good. Shockingly good. Clean, comfy chairs with tables high enough that you don't have to stoop to eat your pho, a weirdly cozy detail. I didn't realize they were cash only until I got there, but there's an ATM right there so it was no sweat. Staff were friendly and accommodating and the food came out SHOCKINGLY fast. I think I ordered my pho and spring rolls and the spring rolls were at my table in less than five minutes. Crunchy, white hot out of the fryer, and nicely spiced. The pho was killer. Great, strong, lemongrass-forward flavor. My only tiny complaint was the brisket included in my pho was barely there, but honestly I didn't care at all. An extremely filling bowl of goodness while I was under the weather - and did I mention it's $11.25????? Most places around here won't serve an appetizer for that price. I love Viet Taste with all my heart. They're a very no frills, no nonsense, straight to the point Vietnamese place. The servers are there to take your order, give you your food, and take your money. There's no small talk and that's the way I like it. The banh mis slap. I've literally gone here to get banh mi to go to bring to the airport for my flight on multiple occasions now. I always go for the bbq pork one but I've tried almost all of them at this point and they're all delicious. Their pho? Also amazing. Huge portions. It always comes out steaming hot and delicious. I always have enough left over for a second meal. Definitely large enough to split between 2-3 people. I usually get #45 with the brisket, eye round, and tripe. We usually get the appetizer sampler when we introduce this place to friends. Otherwise, we get the fresh shrimp spring rolls and chicken skewers. They have some of the best tasting and affordable milk teas for the area. I cannot emphasize enough how affordable yet delicious this place is. I've gone like 20+ times. This is my go to place for a comfort meal! Been here a lot and the food has been consistently great. You seat yourself. The menu is simple and to the point. It's a small cute store with enough seats to rotate. For dinner, it's almost consistently filled. My usual is the bun bo hue, which has actual blood cubes and I load mine with basil and veggies. I have enough left over for another meal. I really like their spring rolls too. Great peanut sauce for dipping. The drinks are also nice. The milk teas are fragrant and the fruit ones are refreshing. My favs are jasmine milk tea and lychee+mango smoothie. The smoothies do cause the tapioca pearls to harden from the ice so be warned. CASH ONLY. If that wasn't clear enough. I can't believe I haven't yet written a review for Viet Taste! It's a cash-only no-frills place with really reasonable prices. I usually get the Pho Dac Biet, which is basically two meals in one with how big the bowl is. It's $12.95. My husband and I usually split the fresh spring rolls also. They make pretty sizable spring rolls! The banh mi selection is really good and all around the $6 price point. Service is usually fast. Really good. I got the brisket pho and it was delicious on a cold rainy day. The noodles were good and the broth was my fav part. My husband got one of their Korean bbq sandwiches, he said it was ok. Wow, I did not realize good value dining like this still existed. In short, nothing fancy here but a lot of very good Vietnamese dishes at great prices. Our party of 4 met up here at 6:30pm on a Tuesday and it was busy and we got the last open table. After looking at the menu and ordering I could understand the popularity and high ratings here. We ordered: #01 - Viet Taste starter plate for 3 #62 - marinated pork chop with fried egg and honey sausage (mine) #50 - vermicelli noodle salad with shrimp #40 - pho with brisket, tendon, and tripe #32 - pho with combo meats The pho bowls are very large and were served scary (I hope no one ever spills these) piping hot. I really enjoyed the delicious appetizers as well as my delicious pork chop and sausage with white rice dinner. They were tip-top did I say delicious and astonishing great deals and the pre-tax total was just $70.13. Our server was attentive enough, though a bit harried in the busy place. The food arrived pretty quickly. They also serve a good variety of some nice looking smoothies and bubble teas. It's also cash only fyi. We came slightly out of the way here just based on Yelp reviews for Vietnamese, so thanks to all the good Yelpers. My GPS sent me to the back entrance of the restaurant though off of Irving Park Road which was a little sloppy and eye-brow raising. It's looks like a hole in the wall Pho restaurant next to the mall, but it serves the best pho around Chicago. I have been here several times before, and every time, the taste has been consistently fresh and perfectly savory. Not to mention, the wait times are short, and staff are friendly. The bowl comes filled with chicken breast, rice noodles, onions, and green onions. The broth is a beef broth and is by far the best tasting broth around. The color of the brought speaks for itself. I also ordered the spring rolls. They come with fresh lettuce, shrimp, bean sprouts,rice noodles, and mint. Their dipping sauce is a peanut one and has more of a strong peanut taste than others I have had. This is great for me since I love peanuts and peanut butter. Hubby ordered the lemongrass pork and eggroll vermicelli noodle salad for me from Viet Taste after dining in and literally half of the take out container was full of bean sprouts. A quarter of the container had noodles and an eighth of the container had meat/eggrolls (this quarter side of the container was shared with fish sauce). The pork was prepared as patties and didn't taste like lemongrass at all but flavor wise was okay. I was really hoping that there would be more noodles but this was so sparse. I haven't seen a steaming hot bowl of pho for less than $11 (before tax and tip) in a LONG time or an order of spring rolls for less than $5 (before tax and tip). Just tried this place last night as I recently tried Pho in LA which I loved so decided to find a place near me. I ordered the Pho with beef (Eye Round Beef Slices) and it was sooo good! Food: We got the bun no hue which is a spicy beef/pork based broth with various meats (ham, beef tendon, beef brisket) and a thicker type of noodle is used.
