Hey you guys! If you haven't tried this little mom and pop restaurant, the food is fantastic and extremely affordable. There's a HUGE menu and it's BYOB. There's little ambiance but it doesn't matter in the least to me. I went for dinner on Saturday with my mom, my sister and three aunts. We all pretty much got the same thing (because we love it), the shrimp rolls, the eggs rolls and the "ravioli" (a cold/summer roll) and various orders of the pancakes. I had shrimp and the others had chicken. The portion is gigantic, as you get 2 pancakes stuffed with sprouts, protein and mushrooms. They do take phone ahead/take out but no online ordering, unfortunately. The food comes out fast and hot. Please check them out because the owner said they're on borrowed time, after 37 years in business. They have a local following that would be so sad to see them close. read more

Stopped by on the way back from a work trip in CT. Tried the bun bo hue and summer rolls. Rolls were good, sauce tasted like too much hoisin sauce, not the peanut sauce I'm used to. The soup was just ok. Broth was a little bland, heavy on cilantro, and not spicy like I would expect it to be. The meat had a charred taste to it, and was in thin slices vs the chunks I've had. Place was slammed while I was there, dude was hopping to keep up, which I totally appreciated. Menu looked extensive, maybe if I'm around town I'll try a different dish than the soup, selection did look good. read more

I have been eating here weekly for over 30 years (my kids grew up coming here and Kim knows them all) and the food and service has always been fantastic. I never thought to write a review on Yelp since I usually write reviews on Trip Advisor, but a friend suggested I review on both. I have tried Vietnamese food in other cities/states but have not found anywhere that beats Vietnam Restaurant. The interior is pretty plain and the decor has not changed since I discovered this gem, but the food has remained consistently great. Our favorites include ginger chicken and broccoli, sauteed chicken with lemongrass, beef pho, and triangle shrimp rolls, but we also like Shaken beef, and shrimp and crab meat soup. There is no liquor license so you can bring your own and they will give you glassware. Be sure to try the Vietnamese iced coffee- a decadent treat for coffee lovers! read more

The food is beyond amazing. Been going here since I was 8-9 years old. Never changed their ingredients. They use fresh- hand cut veggies. The music is always relaxing. Very peaceful atmosphere. I have been to this restaurant in West Hartford more than any other. I started going there over 15 years ago, and have since introduced many friends to Vietnamese food. I always get limeade and the fresh Vietnamese ravioli...and then have the hardest time NOT ordering beef pho every time because I love it so much--but there are other standouts on the menu like Vietnamese pancake (crunchy fried batter around bean sprouts and shrimp), Shaken Beef, and Bun Cha Gio, which is a cut-up eggroll on top of little skinny noodles and salad with a delicious vinegary "home sauce" to pour on it to your liking. I grew up going to this restaurant since I was legitimately a baby. The food has never changed in my 27 years of life! It's just as delicious now as it always has been. My favorite entree is the Shaken Chicken. All the appetizers and soups are also amazing. In my opinion, this is the best Vietnamese restaurant in town. I have driven by Vietnam Restaurant so much and never really noticed it until my friend suggested to a quick girls catch up dinners. There's no bar but you can bring your own booze (BYOB). My friend brought some Rosé apple beers. My sister tried some of the appetizers and my friend and I went the soup route (Pho). I got the beef Pho and the broth was full of flavor. The service was fast and they come around to fill your water glass often. I will be back to explore their menu. read more

I absolutely love this place. The food here is so delicious. Served up quickly, fresh and hot. I especially love the shrimp rolls which is a staple that I love to order every time I go. I haven't found these anywhere else. They have an amazing sizzling pancake with either shrimp, pork or chicken. The woman that is there serving I'm assuming is the owner. The reviews do not lie. Vietnam Restaurant is great! The owner is so sweet, accommodating and helpful and the food is delicious. I can only speak for their Pho, but assure you I am very picky when it comes to this coveted soup. I can always tell when the broth isn't fresh, but I assure you Vietnam Restaurant's Pho is beyond fresh and tasty. It's simple, yet SO good. All of the veggies that accompanied my soup were also immaculate (other places may give you wilted basil or brown bean sprouts, but that is NOT the case here!). Spring rolls seemed to not have been made fresh as you can tell from wilted and browned vegetables. Peanut dipping sauce was basically Hoisin sauce in a side container. No bueno. This place is a must try!! I was visiting from out of state and my brother was raving about this restaurant and insisted that we had to go to during my trip up there, and I'm so glad he did! I had never had Vietnamese food before and wasn't really sure what to expect, I've had Chinese food and like some of their dishes but this restaurant and this Vietnamese food trumps any Chinese food I have ever had!!! Not only was the food amazing but very reasonably priced and if you dine in the waitress there is an absolute sweetheart, checked in on us and was very warm friendly and welcoming! This will definitely be a go to spot for me whenever I am in town! We ordered shrimp ravioli, shrimp rolls and egg rolls for our appetizers and split them 3 ways so we all could try it, I ordered the steamed beef and broccoli entree and they give big portions enough to fill you up and take some home! Both dine in and takeout are delicious, although I wish they would avoid using styrofoam containers. Without a doubt the number 1 Vietnamese restaurant in the Northeast. The meals are an authentic blend of French and Vietnamese. It's really a "hole in the wall" in appearance so you don't expect to have such a great tasting meal. Shakin Beef is always a great tasting experience as well as their unique Vietnamese Ravioli appetizers which are a rice crepe wrapped around fresh shrimp and rice. Chicken soup is also a very tasty experience with fresh lime and basil that give it a unique & healthy flavor. The shrimp pancake is also unique and flavorful. As a Vietnamese-born American who has lived in California (San Jose and Orange County reign as the largest concentration of Vietnamese people outside of the country itself) most of my life and as part of a restaurant family, I know the culture and cuisine well. FOOD: quality is not consistent throughout the menu. Some dishes are authentic in flavor, while others are moderated for local community tastes. The Vietnamese coffee is served the right way in a drip glass and tastes good. The can chua (sweet an sour soup) is great, especially in vegetarian form with tofu, but the vermicelli noodles with meat were a little disappointing. Also, their pho is not the best in the area. SERVICE: is uneven, depending on who is running the front-end. It ranges from friendly to cold/indifferent. Also, it could be a little faster. LOCATION/AMBIANCE: the place is medium-size with outdoor searing and is fairly clean. Vietnamese music is playing softly and there are authentic decorations on the walls. However, it's not interesting or impressive. VALUE: is decent, with a main course and drink coming in at around $10 plus tip. read more

I've been coming here from when I was in a stroller as a baby, to now (I'm almost 20). This place is the kind of place that as a kid, I would be begging my dad to bring me. Kim, who is one of the servers, is the absolute sweetest woman to walk this Earth. I love everyone there with my entire heart. I always ordered spring rolls, egg rolls and a bowl of veggie pho -- and every time it would come out with just the right amount of noodles, just the right amount of veggies and their hot sauce would make my mouth water. I'd come here on sad days, good days, even better days and leave feeling like a million bucks. Growing up, my dad knew the one thing to always cheer me up or my "go to" restaurant was here. He'd say, "Want to go see Kim?" And it would make me smile. It might be a bit smaller on the inside and have some competition a few miles away, but surely their food shows just how respected this establishment is and why it has been here for so long. I love this restaurant with my entire heart. I moved to North Carolina and haven't been in a few years. No pho will ever be as good as "Kim's pho", as my dad called it, and I will always, always say this was my favourite restaurant of all time. I should've known better. Every time I'm in CT for a few days, I get cravings for Asian food, more specifically, Vietnamese food. But, every time, I'm super disappointed. I got the shrimp rolls appetizer and the shrimp, crab meat, and pork slices with rice stick noodles. I love deep fried anything, so the shrimp rolls (2) were decent. But, they definitely aren't what you would expect. First, they are not rolls like eggrolls, they're triangular. And, the stuffing is one medium sized shrimp in the middle of a bunch of shredded carrots and glass/vermicelli noodles. The noodle soup dish was a disappointment. The soup was so, so very bland. The noodles were not fresh tasting, or hadn't been boiled long enough. I was very, very sad. I don't know if I can take any more risks with noodle soup in CT. read more

2.5 stars, I'll give them the a 3 on yelp because the ravioli style fried spring rolls was really good. Haven't seen those ravioli shaped spring rolls in the various Pho places I've been to, well I haven't seen those before at all actually. As for the Pho, I notice they put a little more vinegar than other pho restaurants, it had a little tang, wasn't bad just different. Didn't have many types of meat either, very basic, very mediocre, if you want good Pho drive down the street to Pho Boston. This place has potential, I was actually a big fan of those ravioli shaped spring rolls and my mother's stir fried noodles was very good. But the soup needs to get better. Also a remodel would be nice, more modern atmosphere would be very nice. I hope they use my review as motivation. read more

There are a variety of very reasonably priced lunch specials to choose from. I had the sautéed chicken with lemongrass ($8.50). It was fantastic. Meh If you sit on the front of the restaurant you will be fine with the plain decor and service. If you sit on the back of the restaurant storefront. You'll be in trouble. Decor is just plain tables and Chairs, Nothing hanging on the wall, plain WHITE!, staffs comes every 5 minutes so you better catch him if he passes by the kitchen. Food was not as I expected. Spring rolls are not tasteful and Dry. The Pho nooddles was Petite, My friend Ordered extra Noodles and it felt like it got ripped off (because it look big from the bowl, but nothing else was added). and for $ 8.00 Dollars?, Hells NO! The Cha Gio (fried spring rolls) are the almost impossible to find style of true Vietnamese, which incorporates shredded pork and cabbage in wafer thin, fried rice paper. 99% of places, even Vietnames places, serves Thai style Cha Gio, which uses a thicker wrapping and a different filling. At Vietnam, they are amazing, literally as good as Ive ever had. Ever. And I scour the globe for these little fellows. Everything else is good, pretty standard Vietnamese (Bun, pho) in an ambiance that can only be found in non-descript Asian a restaurants: wall drapings, glass topped tables over pink hued table cloths, fake plants, sterile-ly clean. Everything else about Vietnam is findable elsewhere, but the Cha Gio is top 5 in the US as far as Im concerned, and the rarity of that type of execution earns it 5 stars. read more
