Today was chilly and we were really looking forward to trying a new pho restaurant in Avon. The pho itself was delicious. However, I felt let down by the service experience at this restaurant. After we ordered and the pho came, the table looked strangely empty to me. As someone who frequently eats pho; I realized it was because the waitress never brought the bean spouts, leaves, and lemon/lime slices to put into our broth. I asked if this restaurant serves it and she looked at me strangely and said it was already in the pho. I thought it was so odd, so I explained that when I usually go out for pho in my home state of Hawaii, usually there is a separate small dish brought to the table with all of these items to put into the broth. The waitress then asked if I wanted it and I said yes. About ten minutes later, the waitress brought out a plate and she said that in Avon, most people don't want the sprouts. I wasn't sure if this was because I look like most of the people from Avon (Caucasian), even though I am just visiting. If anything, couldn't she have at least asked if we would like it? We enjoyed our pho and were happy to eat it how we usually do and we ate all our extra bean sprouts. The waitress never came back to ask how was the pho or refill our water. I had to request a copy of my receipt because she did not print one out for me. When I was trying to fill out the receipt/tip, the waitress was trying to have a full on conversation with me asking about the financial burden of living in Hawaii... the timing of this sudden chattiness was not good for me. I was ready to get out of there. All in all, pho was great (thank you lady in the kitchen) but service could have been a lot better. Will probably not come back again. Sorry:( read more

3.5 stars. I love Asian cuisine. I guess I'm sort of a connoisseur when it comes to it lol. I had this place bookmarked for a while. Finally went for a late lunch recently. It's located in the Old Avon Village plaza. There were plenty of parking. The interior was nice; it looked like it used to be a frozen yogurt spot. The hostess/waitress was nice. Unfortunately, there is no kids menu, but we were able to get a small bowl to share our noodles with our toddlers. The food came out slowly, considering we were only 1 out of 3 tables. We ordered pork and shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer; it was very good and fresh with the peanut butter sauce. For my meal, I ordered the Pho House Special; it's $20.95 and has rice noodles, medium rare beef, brisket, and meatballs. This bowl was huge! The flavor was good but the broth was very oily. I added more hoison, chili oil, and siracha for more flavor. We didn't have any sauces and napkins, so we had to flag down the waitress a couple of times. Also, they never refilled our waters. I noticed the prices were very high compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. With everything factored together, I gave them 3.5 stars total. read more

On the ever-growing wheel of pho, this lands at just OK. We tried the chicken pho, the beef & brisket pho, the pork spring roll, and the fried egg roll. The chicken was clear and clean but did not have much flavor in the broth. The chicken pieces were sliced breast, which also led to the meat being dried out in the broth. Counter to this, the beef broth was over-flavored with clove and star anise, leaving it sweet and over-spiced. The beef, much like the chicken, was also dry and the brisket was tough. The pork spring roll was fresh and crisp, but the pork appeared to be simply boiled - while this might be authentic, we prefer pork that is flavored in some way. The egg rolls were crunchy and flavorful. Overall, there are better pho places in the area that we will choose over this one. read more

I'm from the San Francisco Bay area and I've eaten a lot of pho, soI know good pho when I come across it this was outstanding..I was surprised it was so good in a quiet Connecticut suburb like Avon. In addition to the atmosphere was lovely, which is not something you usually get in Vietnamese restaurant and the service was very good as well. I don't agree with the person who said there wasn't enough beef. I came here very hungry and there was plenty of beef. The meat was good quality too, and very tender. read more

We've eaten here twice, once for take-out and once in the restaurant, and both times everything was delicious! The rice dishes and the pho are both very flavorful. The bahn mi was good but my wife (who has very particular taste in bahn mi, but loves them) says they are just OK. The restaurant itself is very clean and elegant looking and the staff we met were very nice and responsive. We ate there in the middle of the day on a weekday and it wasn't terribly crowded. read more

Such a sweet gem-!! Wonderfully personable and down-to-earth family running this restaurant! I am a summer roll fiend and have recently been unpleasantly surprised with how some restaurants in Blue back square do them- But this place, oh my gosh, 150% satisfied with the shrimp spring rolls (the not fried wrap one). The pork banh mi was so delectable! The baguette they use is impeccable and fresh, the pickled vegetables are so yummy, and the pork is well seasoned and cooked. The short rib pho was also really fresh and clean in taste. There is ample broth so I will be making a second bowl out of it. Highly recommend any and all of these dishes. They've just been open a week, so I sure hope some of the flaws we saw today can be chalked up to growing pains. These guys are super nice and they are trying so hard. Strengths 1) The design of the dining room is absolutely gorgeous; a wonderful mix of colors and shapes. The two-tiered ceiling is full of gold and white swirling arcs and the beautiful light fixtures (imported from Viet Nam) are colorful hanging lanterns and globe lights. It's really quite stunning. 2) The service was incredible. Our server was super polite and attentive and made numerous check-backs. We also had a few visits from the owners which was very nice to see. 3) I liked the simple menu - egg roll or spring roll appetizers, a Beef Banh Mi, and three Pho choices (Beef, Chicken or Vegetable). 4) The wait for the food was quite reasonable 5) We didn't order any drinks, but the drink menu looks very nice with Vietnamese coffees, smoothies, and matcha beverages. Opportunities 1) We did have a piece of bone in our Chicken Pho ($10.99). That could have been a bad thing if it wasn't seen before ingesting. 2) The restaurant was "out of bean sprouts" when we arrived. Halfway through the meal, they replenished their supply and brought some over. 3) My bowl of beef pho ($12.99) was supposed to have "Sliced Beef, Brisket and Beef Balls". But, I was served a Eunuch bowl -no balls ! When I mentioned it to my server, a patron on the other side of the restaurant heard me and also chimed in that her Bowl of Beef Pho was also Ball-less. Now, to be fair, they brought me out a bowl of the missing beef balls right away (and they were great), but here's my take on things-If you only sell three kinds of Pho and you describe the beef Pho as "Classic Pho", you really should have a solid command of what comes out of the kitchen. This is kind of a serious flaw if you are in your first week of commerce. 4) As for the broth itself, well--I honestly have had better in both the flavor and quantity departments. It was a little bland and needed a few shakes of the Sriracha and Hoisin on the table to zip things up a bit. 5) When our credit card bill came, it came without a pen to sign with. So look, that's a lot of small things that have improvement opportunities. I am going with three stars because the servers and owners we encountered were all so incredibly nice. But for $30 for 2 bowls, tax and tip, I hope they step up their game just a little more. read more

I cannot recommend Pho House enough. I went there on a Saturday afternoon after doing some holiday shopping. I started with the salmon roll. It is packed with flavor and a nice grilled piece of salmon. The two large rolls I received are well worth the price, especially given the market price of seafood. The pork Banh Mi was delicious. I could actually taste that it was pork. The bread was spot on and the fillings complimented each other. I just wish I could find a place that has original Banh Mi with liverwurst and deli meats. Finally, the star of the show, the beef pho. The broth was rich with flavor and beautiful in appearance. Let's be honest, we eat with our eyes first. We have our favorite pho places in the area already but wanted to give Pho House a try as it was convenient. It a small restaurant that is family run. Menu is limited compare to other pho restaurants but it makes sense for their size and staffing. Service was very fast. We tried the spring rolls and short rib and beef pho. Spring rolls tasted fresh and came with a great peanut sauce. Compared to other places, it seems to be less salt, sugar, and msg, which I really appreciate. It was still rich with beef flavor. They also serve it with bean sprouts and mint already added instead of on the side. The only thing that was missing for me are the other meat add ons like meatballs, tripe, and tendon. It's just not the same for me without it. If you're someone who just orders it simple with just sliced meat, would highly recommend Pho House over others. read more

I ordered takeout from here and Pho House is just...okay. Their tofu Banh Mi (vegan) was fine. The mayo was a bit overpowering for the vegetables and didn't meld well with the marinated tofu, which was the tastiest part, aside from the bread. Next time I would just get the banh mi without mayo. The vegan pho was nothing to write home about. I really didn't care for the broth, finding it a bit bitter, but the toppings and tofu were pretty good. Warning, it does come with mushrooms, which, had I know, I would have asked them to hold it. Overall, I would not go out of my way to eat here, but it is a solid lunch if you are in the area. read more

We visited Pho House during their soft opening, which meant they were offering a very limited menu, but if the meal I had there is any indication of what's to come, then this place is going to be fantastic! First off, Pho House is a feast for the senses! SIGHT: The decor. It's fun! As you walk in, you are greeted by several colorful lanterns These cheerful greeters are offset set by white tile, a deep charcoal accent wall and tasteful decorations. SOUND:Jazzy background music is being played as just the right level TOUCH: Settle into comfy cushioned seats at a sturdy table (At least on one side of table, the other side gets a hard backless bench) TASTE: The only offerings tonight, as it was a soft opening, were the Classic Beef Pho and Summer Rolls, so that's what we had. The pho broth is very good, tasty with a nice representation of beef and plenty of noodles. The summer rolls were fresh and classic served with a tasty peanut sauce. SMELL that fresh basil as you break it up into the soup! Lots still to be done here, as far as service and such. No checks or receipts available yet, so trust your server! Came for pho on a cold night and it was incredible! We had the traditional pho (with brisket) and chicken pho. First and most importantly, the broth for both was fantastic. I then went for the classic Pho soup while she opted for the bahn mi. Both were extraordinary. The sandwich arrived on a crisply toasted bun packed with veggies. My pho was served in a deep bowl filled with savory broth in which floated thin slices of beef, sprouts, Thai basil and a great deal of thin rice noodles which were a delight to slurp, heartily. We visiting this charming Pho House on Saturday night for dinner. It was pouring rain and I had a severe soar throat. This was the perfect meal for both. The atmosphere is charming and inviting. The service was fantastic. The food was delicious. We were a party of 5 and tried the egg rolls, spring rolls and 3 types of Pho. Everyone at the table made sounds of pleasure as they took bites of their food of choice. The owners were so nice, coming out to say hello a few times.
