Food was great. The service, too. Bahn Mi pork sandwich is highly recommended. Large portions and reasonable prices. PS: Tiramisu for desert?

Met the new owners and they were very nice and welcoming. Had the house special beef pho which had great flavor. Looking forward to trying some other dishes soon.

I'm from the San Francisco Bay area and I've eaten a lot of pho, soI know good pho when I come across it this was outstanding..I was surprised it was so good in a quiet Connecticut suburb like Avon. In addition to the atmosphere was lovely, which is not something you usually get in Vietnamese restaurant and the service was very good as well. I don't agree with the person who said there wasn't enough beef. I came here very hungry and there was plenty of beef. The meat was good quality too, and very tender.

We've eaten here twice, once for take-out and once in the restaurant, and both times everything was delicious! The rice dishes and the pho are both very flavorful. The bahn mi was good but my wife (who has very particular taste in bahn mi, but loves them) says they are just OK. The restaurant itself is very clean and elegant looking and the staff we met were very nice and responsive. We ate there in the middle of the day on a weekday and it wasn't terribly crowded.

Amazing. I love Pho , I have had it all over the world and theirs is simply the best I've ever had. The broth is wonderful & full of flavor. I've had all of the different flavors and each is as good as the next.

They've just been open a week, so I sure hope some of the flaws we saw today can be chalked up to growing pains. These guys are super nice and they are trying so hard. Strengths 1) The design of the dining room is absolutely gorgeous; a wonderful mix of colors and shapes. The two-tiered ceiling is full of gold and white swirling arcs and the beautiful light fixtures (imported from Viet Nam) are colorful hanging lanterns and globe lights. It's really quite stunning. 2) The service was incredible. Our server was super polite and attentive and made numerous check-backs. We also had a few visits from the owners which was very nice to see. 3) I liked the simple menu - egg roll or spring roll appetizers, a Beef Banh Mi, and three Pho choices (Beef, Chicken or Vegetable). 4) The wait for the food was quite reasonable 5) We didn't order any drinks, but the drink menu looks very nice with Vietnamese coffees, smoothies, and matcha beverages. Opportunities 1) We did have a piece of bone in our Chicken Pho ($10.99). That could have been a bad thing if it wasn't seen before ingesting. 2) The restaurant was "out of bean sprouts" when we arrived. Halfway through the meal, they replenished their supply and brought some over. 3) My bowl of beef pho ($12.99) was supposed to have "Sliced Beef, Brisket and Beef Balls". But, I was served a Eunuch bowl -no balls ! When I mentioned it to my server, a patron on the other side of the restaurant heard me and also chimed in that her Bowl of Beef Pho was also Ball-less. Now, to be fair, they brought me out a bowl of the missing beef balls right away (and they were great), but here's my take on things-If you only sell three kinds of Pho and you describe the beef Pho as "Classic Pho", you really should have a solid command of what comes out of the kitchen. This is kind of a serious flaw if you are in your first week of commerce. 4) As for the broth itself, well--I honestly have had better in both the flavor and quantity departments. It was a little bland and needed a few shakes of the Sriracha and Hoisin on the table to zip things up a bit. 5) When our credit card bill came, it came without a pen to sign with. So look, that's a lot of small things that have improvement opportunities. I am going with three stars because the servers and owners we encountered were all so incredibly nice. But for $30 for 2 bowls, tax and tip, I hope they step up their game just a little more.

That's because when you pull into the shopping plaza.....you don't see it. But if you circle around to the right, you'll see it on the side of the strip mall's buildings. And trust me, this spot is definitely worth hunting down to experience a standout breakfast or lunch. We walked in a little before 1:00 yesterday and found a table for two in the back left corner of the dining room, so we had a good view of the entire room. I have to tell ya, the place was packed! Breakaway closes at 3:00 every day except Sunday (2:00), and there were breakfast and lunch menus out, plus a few daily specials. My wife went with a "William's Ham Panini" ($17) with thin sliced ham, bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar and honey mustard on a grilled panini. We both were struck at how much ham was piled onto her sandwich. She had a few choices for a side dish and put her nickel down on potato salad. I went with The JT Salad ($16). The menu says it's been their "best-selling salad 25 years and counting". It was a big portion of mixed greens served with house balsamic dressing, grape tomatoes, gorgonzola cheese, and grilled chunks of teriyaki glazed chicken breast. It was stellar, with plenty of that yummy cheese and chicken. The only sour note with our lunch was a rather steep $4.25 for a glass of iced tea that was half-filled with ice. The food was very good and a decent amount of leftovers came home with us for another day. I was unexpectedly impressed by how crowded Bistro was on a random Monday. I bet you'll be too.

My favorite purchases were the fresh cut egg linguine and the Ritz-based stuffed cod. The fresh linguine cooks in a minute and the texture just hits different in the best possible way. The cod was nice and firm and the Ritz stuffing was crazy delicious. I also liked the Chicken Francaise. You can't really compare it to restaurant quality Francaise because it's specifically made to be re-heated and eaten later. With this in mind, I though that the small chicken pieces and lemon sauce were very solid. My other purchases included clam chowder and Tuna Mac Salad with peas. The Tuna Mac was pretty good. It wouldn't be in regular rotation for me, but I'd get it once in a while. The clam chowder was my least favorite, but I respect that New England Pasta seemed to go for something different. The texture was good and it had plenty of clams and potato. But it tasted like it had a little blue cheese flavor. I can't say for sure that they used blue cheese, but the chowder definitely had something different that gave it this vibe. For me, this flavor was a bit too assertive. I don't live near New England Pasta, but if I did, I would visit once in a while. Four Stars

It's located in the quaint and quintessential town, Collinsville, CT. It's situated right on the Farmington River and just steps away from the historic Collins Axe Company. We went on a Saturday for lunch; there were plenty of parking. Since it's winter, the patio area overlooking the river was closed; I can't wait to dine on there when it gets warmer. They didn't have high chairs yet, but we improvised and brought our baby carriage in. The place was lovely; I loved the emerald green chairs and the plants on the walls as decor. The bar looked classy too. Our server was friendly and attentive. We started off with the cheese board; for $16 it came with three cheeses, nuts, fig jam, mini pickles, and crostini. The cheeses were blue cheese, brie, and gruyere. The board was great and had a good amount of cheese; I just wished there were more crostini to hold all the cheeses. They had an awesome food and cocktail menu. I ordered the pomegranate margarita $14; it had pear juice, tequila, honey, and triple sec and it was a tasty drink. I've been following them on social media for a bit and their short rib dish ($28) looked delicious. I had to get it for lunch even though it's a dinner entree. It's Legitimus beer braised short rib, carrots, onions, over garlic mashed potatoes and cheddar. The short rib melted in my mouth, the au jus was flavorful, and the mashed potatoes tied it all together. It was a 5 star dish. The ambiance, food, and service were 5 stars. The prices were a little high but you pay for the quality. They make their own syrups and juice their own lemons & limes for their cocktails. I look forward to going back and trying more food and drinks. I wish them much success in this awesome little town!

I was greeted warmly, and my neighbor and I were seated in a lovely booth by the window. Iced water was poured into the glasses that were sitting on the table, and lunch menus were placed in front of us No munchies or sauce were served while I was perusing the menu I placed my order for an order of chicken wings for the appetizer, and for $16.95, I ordered chicken and garlic sauce with white rice, along with hot and spicy soup and two small egg rolls My neighbor ordered a shrimp and Thai sauce lunch. Within five minutes, the chicken wings arrived 8 in total, which included 4 flats and 4 drumettes These chicken wings were seasoned perfectly, and then deep-fried to a golden brown. A beautiful spicy Thai sauce was served on the side. I could've made a meal out of these. These were some of the best chicken wings I've ever had in my 65 years here on earth. The Tom Young soup arrived, and it wasn't what I was expecting, boy was this thing sour and as soon as I hate it, I went whoa, the waitress saw that I didn't like it and offered to exchange it for Mayo soup which I gladly did. The miso soup was delicious seasoning so nicely with basil. So far, I am experiencing perfection. The dinners arrived, and buy garlic, chicken and vegetables with white rice was OK. It wasn't great, but don't get me wrong. It wasn't bad at all. I would've liked to see more garlic sauce, and maybe a little bit more spicy. Instead, it was rather bland. My neighbor loved the Thai shrimp and vegetable vegetables Restrooms were clean, and I loved the ambience, Thai casual. The total with the tip was just over $54. I am really on the fence if this is the best Thai in Connecticut or close to it. So far no. But I would gladly come here again because this would be a top five in the Avon Valley area. I love the experience, and our server gave us extraordinary service. This was a great experience. I just wish the main course was a little bit more seasoned. I will come here in the future and try a different dish

Did you ever cook rice and forget to salt it before you cooked it?…read more I went to Shu Express today, as I was craving some Sichuan cuisine, that had a little kick to it. So as I pulled into the Walmart-Big Y Plaza in Avon. I parked almost right in front of the little restaurant just to the left of Five Guys and the haircut place. After hearing how delicious lunch specials were, I decided to get one, and the owner/order taker informed me that because this is a holiday no lunch specials. I was ready to walk out. Then, after looking at the prices, I was double ready to walk out. But because of the trooper that I am, I ordered the Yangzhou fried rice. The order arrived, and it just didn't look right; but that's OK; I'm a trooper. The fried rice was missing corn and scallions, a staple to this Szechuan dish. As I dug in, it hit me immediately. There was no flavor. The rice had zip for flavor. The shrimp were not seasoned. The diced pork looked old, the beans sprouts looked OK, the peas looked fresh, and the mushrooms were warm, , but not cooked. This dish lacked flavor. It was almost like it tasted like water. I brought the dish back and asked if there was some type of sauce that could put on this dish, and the owner got pissed at me. Copped a real attitude. He gave me three little soy sauce packets and sent me on my way. How this restaurant earned 4 1/2 to 5 stars is beyond me. Yes, parking was great, yes, the place was spotless, but the food tasted like a dieters choice that you would order a Chinese restaurant like steamed broccoli with white rice. Flavorless and disappointing. Plus it wasn't cheap at $16 with a soda. Will I be back to this location to retry it? Nope With so many new locations popping up in Avon on Route 44, I'll spend my money elsewhere, trying new things. I'm just really disappointed in this place and the owner. Perhaps he should take a refresher course on customer service, and allow lunch specials on holidays. This place was not busy at all and I was there at lunchtime. I just don't see this place lasting.
