When I got to my appointment Tina told me to look around and pick some dresses to try. When walking around I could see a dress in the back and I was like OMG, that's gorgeous, I wish it was on the floor, I assumed it was someone's dress so I didn't say anything. I tried a couple of dresses on and after a couple Tina said "after our conversation on the phone I put a dress to the side that I thought fit everything you described and that I think would fit you well" IT WAS THE DRESS IN THE BACK. She literally picked my dress from a phone conversation! I tried it on and it was the dress. Nothing else felt right after it. I didn't want to purchase it that day because I hadn't tried on many dresses and had another appointment after. Tina could tell I wasn't ready to purchase and told me to take my time and not to worry, get in touch if I want it. Well after that nothing compared, I called back two days later to ask if I could bring my dad and the rest is history. Tina was amazing and the shop had that nice home/family feel. Because of his height, significant alterations were required, bringing the total close to $700, with a substantial portion going toward tailoring. I was told the clothing would be ready on March 20th. So I arrived at 6:00 PM on March 20th to pick it up. When I got there, the manager checked with the tailor and informed me the items were not ready. I then overheard that the alterations had not even been started. The work required included sleeve adjustments on the jacket and both shirts, as well as hemming the pants. I explained that I live in Northeastern Pennsylvania--over two hours away--and asked if the items could be shipped to me. The manager declined and instead suggested I wait about an hour. Given the amount of work still needed, and my schedule, this did not feel like a realistic or reasonable solution. What was most disappointing was the lack of acknowledgment of the situation. There was no apology and no effort to offer an alternative solution that would make things right. As a result, my son will not have properly fitted clothing for his first event. Overall, this experience reflected poor communication and customer service, particularly given the clear expectations that had been set.

Now having been a VERY regular and long time Marshall's shopper I can assure you the on site manager I dealt with was demeaning and discourteous for reasons passing understanding. To be perfectly frank, I believe the purchase was outside the 30 day refund policy. For that reason alone, I was willing to take a lesser amount as a store credit. That said, the shift manager, I encountered, wouldn't engage at any level. She stated that returns at this high of an amount ($49.99), wouldn't normally be considered full stop. Having worked retail for over 30 years and engaged with this store for the last 5-8 yrs I can assure you, she had no reason to react in the manner I experienced. After reading your online reviews, it's obvious this policy and perhaps even your inventory system has changed. If so, I would encourage work arounds that address the lack of transparency and most assuredly revisiting the training opportunity of customer relations within this location. I will attempt to return elsewhere as I believe the return to be dated well beyond the 30 day window. Perhaps another location would prefer the repeat business. Please note, while you may feel justified regurgitating policy with little or no effort toward civility, and acting as if your customer has wronged you, will only serve to decrease your market share and eventually challenge your performance.
