Ive never written a great review for any Auto repair shop but I have to give credit when credit is due. I was very impressed with Viking & Patricks Customer Service. I dropped my vehicle off at Viking at 9:00am Patrick and his crew did a diag he clearly explained to me the problems with the Vehicle, Patrick even went as far as to show me print outs of the parts and even drew a little diagram on paper of the repairs . Being a mechanical noob this was very helpful in understanding what Ill be paying for and quoted me a fair price. OK these guys may be good with smaller problems but when it comes to bigger issues I question their judgement. My transmission is shifting hard I went in for a diagnostic and $110 later they told me I needed a fluid exchange. They quoted me a cost of $400 to do the transmission service. I took it to the dealer and they did it for $129. I felt they wanted to go down a check off list hoping to get a lot of my business. After the service it still shifted hard so I took it to a real mechanic and The transmission had to be rebuilt. Also i called for an appointment and when I got there they said it would take an hour. Well after 2.75 hours later I got a worthless diagnosis. Well it was worth $110 to them. Avoid or at least get a second opinion. read more

Professional, friendly, fair, trustworthy. To find Viking, I called mechanics listed on yelp and asked questions about a car I was looking to buy. Viking was very knowledgeable and professional so I chose them to do the pre-purchase inspection. Patrick talked me through what they found. Because of the known engine concerns, Viking went the extra mile to include an engine compression test as part of their pre-inspection. I could tell they were honest, objective, and sought my best interest in talking through the concerns of the car. I was very satisfied and give my full recommendation. Jan 19, 2016: I am still incredibly amazed by Viking. I've since moved, but Patrick offered I could call in the future if I had questions or wanted to talk about my engine with it's known issue. I've taken him up on this offer a couple of times. His memory of my car amaze me, and he continues to give great insight. This has helped to have a grounded second opinion while I service my elsewhere. Certainly if I still lived in state, I'd continue to have Viking care for my car. read more

The staff here was friendly enough, but I did not feel like they were completely honest with me about the work they were doing. They wanted me to believe that they would require 4 hours to do a 40 minute job, and wanted to charge me $400 to install a part that costs $24 at the dealer. Luckily I was able to get my van back for around $100 of labor before they completed the job. The 3 stars are because they left the van accessible for me to complete the job myself, thus saving me another $90 in labor charges. I got my van back and completed their 4 hour job in around 40 minutes. This place has a lot of great reviews, but I would be wary. If you go to this shop make sure you understand the job that needs to be done and what is involved in it. Otherwise you may get taken advantage of as I almost was. read more

This place and Patrick in particular restored my faith in humanity. I am from Denver and was looking to buy a car out of state. Patrick worked with me and was incredibly professional, courteous and open to helping me. The car turned out to have problems that were not worth me flying out and would have made the car not worth all the hassle of an out of state purchase. Patrick gave me a thorough overview of what I would have been faced with in repairs. Then, when I was ready to pay for this inspection he said it was on the house. I had chosen this shop based on the incredible reviews talking about honesty and good treatment and fair prices, but this kind Samaritan deed has just blown me away. I have an old 99 Dodge Durango I keep running and when I talked through the issues they came through with the extra effort to help me find some discontinued parts, help me with a minor body shop issue, and repair everything that needed to be done. While I was getting my emission done Patrick and I just chit chatted and he's a really cool guy. If I need to get anything bigger done I will definitely go to viking. These guys are actually Trustworthy mechanics. I've only been in Utah for 6 months and already got burned by two auto body shops. I was told i needed a new serp belt and that my transmission needed a flush. Then a neighbor told me about Viking, and the guys there told me that my transmission looked great and that the serp belt will be fine for another 6 months. In my first experience with them, they got me in right away and gave me a service vehicle so I could get straight to work. I just want to say that if you take your vehicle to this shop, make sure you know exactly what repairs they SAY they are going to do! Unfortunately finding an honest mechanic is a pretty hard task. They supposedly fixed a clutch and transmission problem, to our surprise we have our mechanic friend take the car to his house and we find that there is absolutely NO oil in the transmission. Of course Viking Automotive says that their guys would not have forgotten that. Viking was the only place we had taken the car to with these problems. I feel like we got ripped off and I'm not even sure that viking even did everything that we paid for. We will not be bringing any of our vehicles here again. Just be wary of what they say needs to be fixed on your vehicle is actually what they do! read more

When I met with Patrick at Viking, he did a total evaluation of my car and said the dealership installed a few things that I didn't need, go figure. Unfortunately, I fall under the stereotype of "girl who knows nothing about cars." At the time, I needed a part replaced in my car and Patrick was honest about prices and where I would best get my money's worth. During our conversation, I could tell he really cares about his customers. He told me all the options I had even if that meant not coming to his shop. Ultimately, I decided to get my work done here after speaking with Patrick. The guys here are nothing short of amazing. I came in to get my emissions test done and spoke with Patrick he quoted me $48.00 and was able to squeeze me in for an appointment same day. During my wait I overheard him talking to a customer and told the customer his thought on what is wrong far as his check engine light is on so he placed the coil back into a different spot and said if this come up as error #4 we know the coils are bad but they are pretty expensive parts so I wanna be for certain this is what it really is.. I was impressed with his honestly.. My car was done in no time at all he calls me up to let me know my car was finished I go up to pay for my services done and it ended up being $28.00 he told me he didn't need to do the safety test because he looked it up on the dmv website... I have been looking for a mechanic that I can trust and I've found him I know I needed my transmission serviced at 50000 but I usually get my car serviced at the Chevy dealer and I was told it was going to be a little over $300.00. I asked Patrick if he does the transmission service and he said he does and so I have cancelled my appointment with the Chevy dealer so I can continue getting my car worked on with Patrick.. I had taken my truck to another local auto shop that did a lot of damage to my engine and did bad repairs. My faith in automotive staff was very low and hesitant. I have now taken my truck to Viking multiple times and they have been upfront, honest, kept me up to date while working on my vehicle, stayed late to complete the job, and even fit a very lengthy repair into their busy schedule and completed it in 2 days!!! I have recommended Viking to many of my friends who have also had a great experience here. This crew is the type you can write home to mom about - they will take excellent care of you and be honest. They take pride in their work! My truck had so many noises after the previous shop had messed it up and told me those noises were normal and I just didn't know what I was talking about. Viking auto just put my truck back together - it drives like new again! I told my dog - "she purrs like a kitten again". Dog said - Kitty?! No. I meant "it's as smooth as butter driving now". I went in to get my intermittent wiper fixed and it turned into a nightmare. I tried to give Viking a chance, but after multiple bad experiences I just can't say anything good about them. Patrick was a nice enough guy, but the quality of his technicians was lacking. They ended up raising my vehicle too high on the lift and causing damage to the roof rack (minor damage). Patrick gave me a free oil change because of it though which was nice. But the tech forgot to check to see if his repair of the wiper switch worked, and when I got in the car it wasn't fixed. I ended up spending another $400 to get another part fixed and lost another day's work due to the tech not checking and doing his job. Overall I was very disappointed in them. They were referred by family who loved their work, but my experience has been terrible. I lost 3 days of work for a problem that should have been fixed in 1 day. They made many mistakes that basic quality control processes should have caught. Overall I would not recommend. I think Viking use to be a higher quality shop than it is now. read more

OK I'm late at writing this because the work was done a while ago, but i have to say that since moving to Utah a few years ago I've been looking for a good mechanic shop. I've looked around and called around, tried one or two, to find myself disappointed. (If this doesn't make sense it wasn't meant to.) I ran into a lady at my work who told me of this place and why she started going there even though she can do a lot of work on her own cars. For her this was the 3rd place she took her truck to that could figure out the problem with the brakes. I trusted her and gave them a try and it's paid off. For me they diagnosed my cars for free the first few times and helped me fix it. A good group of guys who are awesome to work with. I'm not disappointed. As you can see I've been going back. Awesome customer service. You won't go wrong here. The best advertisement is the word of mouth and it's hard to earn that. They're advertisement sold me and there good work proved it. I can not say enough good things about Viking Automotive. I called a few places for a quote on ball joints, one place did not call me back for two days after being told I would receive a call back with an estimate that day. I spoke with Patrick on the first phone call and he told me to bring my car in anytime during working hours. Patrick stated that he would put my car up on blocks for free and give me his best idea of what is going on with my car, along with an estimate. From there, Patrick said that I can decide to have my car fixed at Viking Automotive or take it somewhere else. After my car was up in the air, I was shown with a computer example and also on my own car what the issues were. I'm completely clueless when it comes to cars and I was never treated like a dumb woman. I appreciated having everyone at Viking Automotive show me what was going on with my car. I've heard that many mechanics will talk a person into replacing both upper and lower ball joints though it's not necessary. I completely expected to be told this. I was not, I was told that I only needed the bottom replaced and possibly only one side. I ended up needing both sides but I could not believe the honesty and explanation of my car issues. Then the best part! My bill ended up being LOWER than my estimate, I expected to call and have the price be a little bit more. I recommend Viking Automotive to everyone. read more
