Dave Ramos came out to give me a quote. He was by far was the most helpful and patient person who gave me an estimate. And his bid was competitively priced. I requested a quote from Viking fence from their website, within a few days Kody Kimbrel had contacted my family and we got our estimates for a privacy fence and a cattle panel fence. We went ahead with the privacy fence and Kody came out with his builder Eddie. The fence perimeters were set and they went to work, when there turned out to be a problem with where we had decided to put one side of the fence, Eddie informed me and already had a corrected line set to show me the proper place the fence needed to go before he had started digging posts, this was very important to me because he easily could have just built it in the wrong spot, but he took the time to find the correct property line and show me also. Watching the crew work was really something also you could tell they are very skilled, and when the fence was completed you could tell it was built with care and quality. A few weeks afterwords Kody contacted me again telling me he was able to work a better estimate for the cattle panel fence for us. These actions show that they want whats best for the client and made it an easy choice to have them come back out and build that second fence for us. Sure wish I had read these reviews BEFORE hiring Viking. What a disaster. Sloppy job with install, crew that spoke very little English so couldnt communicate with them. Sales guy made the sale then disappeared, so no way to resolve. When we tried to raise our issues with the install to him, he told us it was under warranty. I.E. he didnt want to deal with the install problems, he wanted us to pay in full and then have the sloppy install corrected under warranty. What a bad way to run a business... read more

The chain link fence was a foot off the ground in some places. They told me it had to be installed "with the horizon". No one who came to do the installation spoke English so it was hard to explain to them how I thought it should be done. I mean I had the fence put in to keep the dogs in. One foot off the ground isn't going to serve any purpose. I don't understand why they would even THINK that was right. read more

We are having our entire front yard fenced in decorative iron. I called 4 companies to give us estimates, Viking being one of them. A gentleman came to our home, took all the measurements and information and then never gave us a bid. It's been over 2.5 weeks ago. We contacted him, and he stalled with a somewhat believable excuse-and still we never received an estimate. Not surprisingly, we gave the $15,000 job to another company. I don't quite understand how a company can afford to lose a decent job in these economic times. We called this company out to get an estimate to repair/replace only a portion of their previous work, because the fence had started to lean over. This fence had been installed by Viking at the request of the previous owner about six years ago, and although the cedar pickets look almost new, it is obvious that these people did a poor job setting the initial posts. They didn't appear very enthusiastic about repairing their initial work, even at our total expense, and the outrageous bid they offered for a short extension of the fence made it clear that they didn't want to touch the job. I called to get a quote for a tiny wrought iron fence in my back yard. A gentleman who was very nice came out and measured. Said he would email me a quote the next day. I called three times for the quote. He finally sent it to me two weeks later then said there was a 10 plus day turn around. The quote was roughly $2,000.00. I called another fence company, (five star fencing) the same day. A guy came out, measured and gave me a quote on the spot. Not only was his quote $700.00 he installed by noon the following day. Big difference in price! HUGE! Shop around. My fence looks amazing and it's done. read more

They sounded very nice and professional on the phone, but when they came out to do the estimate they were so rude! I guess they thought the job we wanted done was too small for them. When we first moved to Austin and didn't know anyone (or had become familiar with Yelp), we contact Viking Fence to put up a backyard fence so our dog to laze in the sun to her heart's content. We chose Viking because every other fence in the neighborhood seemed to carry a Viking sign and the fences looked good to us. The gentlemen who came out to measure and give us an estimate was very nice, seemed knowledgeable and the pricing was straightforward. We made arrangements for the fence to be installed in a couple of weeks - after we returned from vacation. Instead we returned from vacation to find an incorrectly installed fence put up in our absence. And just to be clear, there was a free standing gate 6 feet in front of the yard, not attached to a darn thing. Apparently, they had sent someone out unsupervised who had trouble reading the plans. I'm not sure why, but he thought we wanted our gate to sit independently of of the fence with a 6-feet gap on the side??? We had to call them to fix the error, they did so, but really damaged the lawn where they had incorrectly placed the gate. We asked that they replace the sod, they refused stating that it would grow back on it's own (it never did grow back to a healthy state). And then, in the end, they charged us extra because they had to use a special drill to install some of the posts. In sum, this was much more trouble than it was worth. They sent someone out to install the fence, unsupervised who did it wrong. Their customer service once they messed up was pretty lousy. While the fence is sturdy and still standing, both gates that we had installed have settled and are difficult to latch. There must be better people out there. read more

Incredible disappointed with customer service. I called Viking fence several times without a call back, then emailed and was called right away. Set up an appointment and asked if I needed to confirm, was told no that he would meet me at my house. I scheduled my workday around this appointment and no one showed up, when I called I was told that someone should of called me and that he was too busy to talk to me to reschedule and would call me back. Needless to say no one called me to reschedule. read more

The initial work performed to repair my fence was done well and at a great price. I called several months later to have my fence replaced and while it was quick turnaround, the quality of work was subpar. The fence isn't straight/flush to the posts. The "QA" manager that came to my house and was very argumentative and not interested in recognizing a problem - despite the fact another fencing company and my father pointed out there was an issue with the post THEY put in several months earlier. So, I guess I can't really even compliment the work they initially did because it led to the fence problem. Maybe next time you won't try to put up a fence in the pouring rain and this wouldn't have happened. The Job: Replace the ugly combo of privacy and white-picket fencing enclosing our pool yard. appx 200 feet. How I chose Viking: I initially went to a certain big-box orange-ish DIY store to get a quote, but after complete communication failure to even get someone on site to give me a quote I thought I would be better served by working with a company directly. I liked that Viking's office was close to where I work and they had pictures of jobs using the exact product we wanted. They call it "estate panels" which is basically steel square-tubed decorative fencing with cedar panels between the slats. So a much more attractive alternative to a privacy fence. The pros: The end product is great. I came up with the idea of having them dig a trench all along where fence was being installed and having them pour a concrete footer about 6 inches wide under the fence. This turned out great. Now mowing along the fence is much much easier and it give the fence a nice clean look. The cons: Where to begin. The biggest appointment is that the complaints I have are the exact kinds of things I hoped I was avoiding by going directly to a brick and mortar company rather than have this sub-contracted out. Due to a back order situation on some of the materials the job was agreed to happen in phases. Before phase two could even begin the fencing installed in phase one was already rusting and having paint flake off (we are talking a few weeks here). I called in to Viking and they sent someone out to inspect and take some pictures. His recommendation was to apply some touch up paint to most of it and replace a few sections. When the installer came back out to do this he was not happy. He saw how bad it really was and didn't want to have to do a sub-par job. At his recommendation I threw a couple of panels into my truck and drove into Viking myself. I ended up speaking with the owner, told him about my concerns with the product and with the recommendation of his inspector and he made it sound like he would take care of everything. I never heard from him again. They did end up ordering all new panels, but it still continued to be a struggle to get a quality job. Basically the installer was doing all he could to do the job right, but at each hurdle I would have to help him convince Viking to let him do the right thing. Summary: The crew was great. The owner not so much. In the end, this $10K project, that I was hoping wouldn't take much more of my time than to write the check, consumed me for 2 months as I played foreman to make sure they ended up doing the job they promised. read more

Dan and his crew showed up on time and got my beautiful new fence done on on schedule. After Dan did a quick walk-around with me to make sure we were on the same page on everything, he left Noe and his crew to do the work. I wasn't sure how the privacy fence in the back would look, and it was better than I expected. The chain link portion they put in looks great and the crew even saw I had a dog and filled in gap from uneven ground with some rocks so I wouldn't have to do it myself. Overall, I'm happy with my fence and with the overall experience with Viking Fence. My only complaint was that it took a few weeks after the original meeting to get the fence started, but that is to be expected in Austin. read more

On March 21, 2013 I mailed Viking my deposit to have them remove my old fence and place a new one. April 30th, no one has yet to show up to do the job. The project manager (Wayne) never returns calls or answers his phone. I have asked for my deposit back and have not yet seen it. I have failed a complaint with the BBB so hopefully these people need to get out of this business let other companies do the job. I think I am getting a lawyer to get my money back. read more

Kind of annoying to see other reviews that look great but, then I also see some that have the exact same complaint I have... Tried contacting Viking via their website 2-3x with no response (should have been my first clue) Then I called them to set up a quote. Asked if they can come on a Friday or Saturday because I do not work those days...I was told by the estimator "we don;t come out on Saturdays and Friday is an "office day", we have a 2:00 pm appointment on Monday." I said, OK fine, ill take it. So I take off of work Monday, 2:40 pm comes around and no call, no show. I called Viking and was told by reception that he had tried to call me and left me a voicemail about rescheduling because of the weather. First of all, you never called me. Second, you left no voicemail, I even double checked the number they had on file (I knew he had it, since he called me to schedule in the first place.) And lastly, the weather was fine. It rained in the morning but, just overcast the rest of the day... plenty good for you to stand in my front yard and measure and talk to me. Anyways, he was supposed to call me once he pulled over in his car and....here I am 24+ hours later with no phone call. I missed work because your company isn't flexible with scheduling and when I take off work to make your schedule work...i get stood up. Not happy and will not ever recommend you. read more

We could not be happier with our Viking Fence! The materials are nicer than builder grade fences because the boards are thicker and have no holes. They also did an overlay fence so you can not peer though the fence into our yard. Rick and Jeovany were very helpful also. Even after the job was over they came back out and made sure that it was to our satisfaction. I would not hesitate to hire them again. read more

The sales person provided me his card and said he would email me the estimate. I never heard from him again. After completing our deck a month later, I was referred to a different fence company. Since Viking had also been a referral, i wanted to give them a second chance. I reached out to sales rep via email and once again, no response. So I recently had Viking Fence install 4 fence post. Firstly, they expect you to pay by credit card up front 50% and then when it's done they charge the rest of the 50%. I don't have an issue with that provided they complete everything they say they will do. The fence posts were installed in an afternoon and they did a good job. One of the fence post was for a gate and I asked if they could hang the gate once they were done. They said yes. The installation guys, said they would be back the next day to install the gate giving 24 hours for the concrete to set. I was even planning to give the a tip for the work. They never showed up. So, I called and texted the supervisor several times and he would say, yea, I'll have someone come out and take care of the gate. No one ever showed. This happened several times. It was quite expensive to have the 4 post put in and I realize that was the main scope of work but if you say you are going to do something, you should. Now I will have to hang the gate myself. Bottom line, I think Viking Fence will do a good job but get everything in writing. I should have had them add the hanging of the gate in the quote instead of by word of mouth. Live and learn! BTW, I called 3 fencing companies and Viking was the only one who called me back and I needed it done before I went out of town so I give them 2 stars. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I contacted Viking Fence a number of years ago to get an estimate on replacing our driveway gate and a gate on the side of the house. A gentleman came out to look at the job, but never responded with an estimate. I reached out to Viking Fence a couple of years ago via a submission form on their website for the same project. I included photos and a long description of what we wanted. Never heard from them. Last week, I decided to try one more time (3rd time's a charm?), so I called them. I received a call back within an hour from their office manager. She said she'd have the small project person contact me about our needs. Never heard a word. Based on reviews, it sounds like they do great work -- but I'd never know since I've never even received an estimate from them after 3 tries. read more

January of this year we hired Viking Fence because of their history in Austin, well that was a big disappointment. Initially the person who was the project lead (Frank) was on top of things and told me how much he liked his team, well he needs to educate them on quality work. When they did the fence they proceeded to park their trailer in our yard as well as our neighbors and left tire indentations in the grass, they did all this without conversation with us. After telling the project manager he took pictures to show their quality control who did nothing, not even talking with us about it. We had to have them come back out to replace boards that warped but that took awhile with such a lack of communication from the project lead. Within 5 months (we have a warranty) our gate would not open after contacting the same project lead, once again such a lack of communication and it took a month for them to come out and even look at it, then another week or so to come fix it (well that is debatable, more jerry rigged). Well it wasn't in our opinion a true fix just a rig job, they used screws to attach the fence into our siding which has ruined the siding and opened the siding to moisture, great job guys what a lack of quality these people have. We will tell anyone thinking of replacing their fence to find someone else who takes pride in the work they do and the customer service they provide. read more

I must have dealt with a different manager because I am very pleased with the fence they built for me.

They installed both wrought iron and a few panels of cedar fence. Brad came out as planned a gave me a quote fairly quickly. The quality of the product was very good. Price seemed reasonable. My problem was more of the service. First, they hit and broke a sewer line. Brad quickly pointed out that any damage done to buried lines was my problem as per the contract (and it was in it). The grinder pump housing and tank were in plain sight and about 30 feet from the break. I am also surprised with some potential danger involved if it had been an electrical line that they did not ask for a locator service. Next, in digging holes, they put the diggings on top of decorative rocks for a few of the holes. I asked Brad to make sure that was cleaned up. After I asked, all they did was scoop off a little of the dirt on top, but did not clean the rocks down to the underlying fabric. I did it myself, and it was not that easy. Brad offered to give me a gift certificate for a meal ( as they offer for filling a recommendation in), then after pressing, he reduced my invoice by $45 (for my 3 hours of work). They also got some quick set on a couple of my deck stones. He offered to come clean them off, but by that time I really did not want them back on site. Really my summarized concern is the difficulty I had with the company when a problem arose in helping set it right willingly. The end product was quite good. read more

I recently contacted Daryl Nixon with Viking fence in regards to having my fence replaced, and within a day I had a quote for the work. Once I gave him the okay his crew chief Octavio and his crew arrived two days later and had the old fence out and the new on up within two days. Octavio and his crew were very professional letting me know each day when they arrived and when they finished. The fence looks awesome and these guys pay great attention to the details. They also used all cedar rather than pine posts as some companies do. I highly recommend using Viking fence and am more than satisfied. read more

I had three automatic gates installed by Viking about three years ago. Not realizing that each gate had two large batteries inside the control box, I found that one gate would not open and I could not leave. I called Viking on Sunday and they arrived Monday morning about 10am to replace the batteries and get the gates operating again. I am very happy with the service. John Gonzales was the technician who came, fixed the problem and then very patiently showed me how to remove and install these large, specialized batteries. Thanks Viking!! read more
